[PP-F7] When Serpents Fly... <<Case of Wurms>> (With Nikodemus & Hirru)

Recommended Posts

A soft yawn escaped Seul as he leaned back against a bench near the gates in Rig. He had sent out a message only a short time ago to both @Nikodemus_Blackwood and @Hirru asking them for help with a particular field boss on the floor that was discovered as one of three new quests. The Monkey King and Byakko the flaming kitten were like child's play for him during his encounters with them and to be entirely honest he wasn't expecting this thing to be any tougher. Still, traveling alone wasn't the most appealing thing in the world. Going solo for too long was a good way to burn out fast and with them along at least some of the burden would be off him. Now it was just a matter of waiting...

Arriving in Rig on Floor 7, Nikodemus made his way around the settlement. He was fully armored and ready to go on the quest, with his inventory ready also. Moving along through the town, Nikodemus finally spotted Seul. Making his way to him, he gave a curt bow and smiled. "Guten Abend Seul. Nice to see you again. I got your message." Sitting down, Nikodemus began to take a couple things from his inventory. One was a <Sand Armor> Potion and the other a DMG buff. Consuming both, he felt the effects kick in and smiled.

Consumed:

Sand Armor: +27 Mit

Damage potion: +2 DMG

Nikodemus: Lvl: 22 | 88/88 HP | Energy: 22/22 | MIT: 74 (7+13+9+18+27) | Thorns: 14 (7+7) | DMG 7 (1+1+3+2)

It had been some time since the hunter had been to the seventh floor, but it wouldn't be the last.  With the movement of the front lines, new quests have become popping up on the lower levels.  This was a prime opportunity to crack down on some essential level grinding, but there was still a problem.  With his new armor, he was quite prone to more damage than he was known to take, while his sword was still T1, and couldn't perform as well as the others.

Why was he here?  A Blade seemed to be in need of his service on one of the very quests that he was looking for.  He approached the dagger user to find that he was not alone.  Heavy armor covered this one, which assured that he may well be able to protect himself.  He seemed slightly familiar, but with the hunter's work, he has known many faces and forgets easily.  The hunter walked towards the two.

"Howdy!  Is everyone ready?"

He offered a wave to Nikodemus who had arrived first only to have Hirru show up shortly after. "Yep.There's a snake that needs stomping outside of town so we're gonna go kill it." The response was short, but only because he wanted to go kill the field boss and collect the experience it would provide. Seul hopped up from the bench and started a steady walk outside of town, waving for the others to walk with him to the spawn point. Odds were he'd end up tanking for the battle, but he didn't expect the fight to last for too long. Maybe they'd even have time to look for a dungeon afterward.

Following behind Seul, Nikodemus checked his gear one last time and nodded approval that he was ready. Falling in line, he was glad to be once more heading out for a quest that was unfamiliar to him. He of course had a bit of caution in him, be he was as prepared as he could be. Looking between Seul and Hirru, he looked them both up and down. He had worked with Seul before and knew him to be a capable tank, and he had heard Hirru was a good tracker and dungeon seeker. He seemed to be the middle man. He had ok Mitigation for his low level, and had spent a fraction of experience in his search and detect skills, but was no where near as good at either of them as the other to were.

(OOC: Hirru seems to be busy... We can just go and fight it until he's able to respond. If somehow we hit the post requirement before he's able to jump in again I'll just close this up and we can do a dungeon in another thread.)

With his party finally assembled Seul turned on his heel and made his way outside of town. The seventh floor had always been one of his favorites; the mountainous terrain made for an interesting change of scenery from the hum-drum life in a big city that he experienced in the real world. "It's really nice out here." For the most part they each seemed to keep quiet for the majority of the trip. The silence didn't really bother the boy much since it gave him ample time to admire the environment, but he figured he'd at least try to find a talking point. Even if his attempts were somewhat awkward.

One spot in particular that caught his interest was the overlook of a rather large canyon; the very place that also served as the spawning point for snake creature. "Our target should be down there somewhere." He said while searching for a way down. There wasn't exactly a path to take, but there was a conveniently placed rope ladder nearby. It looked sturdy enough, but as far as the weight limit was concerned it probably would be best if they went one at a time. "...I'll go first." He gave the rope a firm tug to confirm his theory and with a soft sigh began his descent into the canyon.

((OOC: Of course. No problem.))

Following behind and keeping mostly to himself, Nikodemus kept his eyes looking about and his senses aware of their surroundings. Coming towards the overlook of the canyon, Nikodemus equipped his gear and prepared himself for the battle to come. Looking down, Nikodemus sighed and stepped back one step. "I will be right behind you. Let us hope that this bridge can take the full weight of my armor." Watching Seul lower down into the Canyon, Nikodemus awaited and kept watch. After a seeing him touch down on the ground of the canyon floor. Stepping onto the rope, Nikodemus gave it a good push with his foot and then began his descent. Taking it one step at a time, he made his way down with a caution to his movements. Slowly, he reached the bottom and found himself next to Seul. "Well, that was the most fun of my day, dangling on a wiry rope ladder over a deep canyon..."

Thankfully they had both made it down in one peace, but Hirru remained above for some reason. Seul simply shrugged it off and turned his attention to the task at hand. "At least it wasn't the bridge over that volcano up on the ninth floor. That village always scares me whenever I go there... Though I'd imagine a fall from the top of this cliff could still be fatal too." Before anything could get anymore morbid he decided to begin the search for the monster. Despite the place being located in the mountains the canyon floor had enough sand to make one think they were in the desert of the fifth floor. Each step only served to make him stumble and he could only imagine how difficult it might have been for his companion with his heavy armor equipped.

"I don't see anything." He said. "Maybe it's time for a break." A rock was planted in the sand a few yards ahead and it seemed like the perfect place to rest, but the closer the knight got to the object the more off it seemed. And were those scales on it? "Rocks don't have scales..." There was only enough time to mumble that final statement as the ground began to shake. In what could only be described as a 'sand explosion' the boss had finally revealed itself in full form.

A snake with two heads and wings. Great. Seul scrambled to grab his shield while the beast charged and activated <<Howl>> to draw its attention away from Nikodemus. Of course he couldn't get too far away but the distance was great enough that he wouldn't be in harm's way. The Amphis Serpens had set its course on him and landed a clean tackle that would pin him to the ground. The boss was on the verge of sinking its fangs into him, but while the shield had failed to completely null the damage, it did keep its jaws at bay by preventing it from biting down.

"A LITTLE HELP HERE WOULD BE NICE!"

Seeing the giant snake rise from it's slumber, Nikodemus shuddered. He was not a fan of snakes normally. Seeing Seul use his <Hate> skill, Nikodemus was shocked to see the beast attack him. Thankfully, Seul was a tank of reputation and was able to withstand the hit. Hearing him ask for help, Nikodemus charged his best Sword Art and charged forward. Striking the beast, his let loose his Sword Art <Undertone> and sliced the beasts, chipping it's natural armor away.

(OOC: I'm controlling the boss so the last attack is invalid-)

He was still pinned down on the ground by the jaws of the serpent but he wasn't actually taking that much damage. If his defense was lower then maybe he would have been in actual danger but as the other head bit into his flesh it was apparent that he wasn't going to be dying any time soon. With that being the case he allowed his mind to wander briefly while waiting for his fellow fighters to take their own cracks at the boss monster. At most he couldn't see the fight lasting more than another few rotations of their party and once he was able he lifted his dagger and cut across the monster twice for a god amount of damage. "Alright... Just need to do that a few more times and this thing will die." He wasn't talking to anyone in particular but the talking di help him remain calm despite having a gigantic snake trying to bite his face off.

[Sorry about the long wait!]

It was long before the fight started that the hunter thought to take to his proper hunting tactics.  As they walked on, the hunter slowly parted with them to hide in the flora and follow them until they made their way to the boss.  This was a preventative measure to make sure that no one was following them along the way.  With the Laughing Coffin and other hard to deal with enemies out there, the group would need to worry about the boss monster instead of them.  Thankfully, that never happened.

During the fight with the serpent boss, the hunter kept to the shadows, but occasionally Seul and Niko would have seen several flashing orbs flash by the serpent.  To the untrained eye, they were just that, light streaking past the boss.  Though, some may see them as pebbles being tossed through the trees.  Though, they weren't doing much, except maybe distracting the everyone else.

Growling at the beasts resilience, Nikodemus watched Seul charge in and strike the beast. His eye caught of a strange sphere slip past him and Seul, striking the beast and clattering off it's scaled hide. Bringing his axe back, he leapt forward and tried to hit the beast. Swinging as hard as he could, the blade of his axe caught in a groove between the serpents scales and slide harmless down it and away. Cursing darkly, Nikodemus danced back out of the way as best as his armored bulk could. Bringing his shield up, he prepared for any strike the beast may make.

Seul remained down on the ground as the other two members of his party were seemingly not being any help at all. "Can you guys quit playing around and actually hit the damn thing?!" He struggled to keep the monster's jaws at bay. It was true there wasn't any actual danger to his health bar, but being in such a position wasn't exactly ideal either. If they weren't careful the monster would be able to wipe them out since overconfidence was often deadly in this world.

After a round of missed attacks, the hunter was getting irritated that nothing was getting through to this boss, even with his distractions.  Without anything left to do, the hunter readied his sword and jumped out from the treeline.  As he did, his Oath began to shimmer emerald before shooting out into several slashing attacks against the large serpent before making three final thrusts into its scale hide.  The hunter then jumped back before his cooldown started, while shouting to the other two.

"Sorry for the wait!  Had to take precautions, ya know."

Seeing Hirru appear, Nikodemus was startled slightly. Looking to him, he watched as he attacked the large snake. Hearing Hirru speak, Nikodemus nodded. "It's ok mate!" Seeing an opportunity, Nikodemus leapt forward to strike the beast. His axe came in hard and clinked against the side of the beast, but it's tough hide was too strong and the blade bounded from it harmlessly. Cursing, Nikodemus leapt back a few feet and tried to think of what to do.

(Tbh I don't even know what's going on anymore. xD)

Blah, blah, blah, the monster still wasn't dead. At this point the fight was just becoming more annoying than anything else. Seul wanted nothing more than to kill the boss with another hit but sadly it wouldn't look like that'd be happening anytime soon. The boss also wasn't landing any good hits in so the whole thing was brought to a standstill. At least none of them were in any actual danger. Hopefully they'd be able to wrap things up soon. "Well I'm going to take a nap..."

((OOC: We were killing a snake. simple.))

Charging forward, Nikodemus brought his axe around in a viscious euppercut strike at the large snakes face. His axe scored across it and carved a deep furrow in the scales, leaving a bright red gash. With a flick of his wrist, Nikodemus brought the axe down again, carving a second line through the creatures face again, leaving a perpendicular line beside the first. Finished with his strike, Nikodemus leapt back and landed a few feet away, breathing hard. "Verdammt thing's scales are like iron. I can get through, but it is shallow and not doing much!"

Believe it or not he did fall asleep, but only briefly because it was still a fight. His health wasn't going any lower and each time he was hit the health only came back thanks to his enhancement. It was somewhat boring but such was his build and he wasn't about to start complaining about being invincible against the monster that could probably kill lower level players. He tried to stab at the monster once again but his dagger bounced off its scales, only pissing it off further. The monster bit into his body once again but its teeth were only able to make shallow holes in his skin. High mitigation sure did come in handy against monsters like this and despite only having light armor on he was happy that his mit was enough to keep the snake at bay. It was such a great time to be a tank in Aincrad.

Following behind his tank of a comrade, Seul, the hunter kept his distance while waiting for the giant slithering beast to mess up in any way.  Though, he would take any chance to attack here in the swampy mess that they were currently fighting in.  The hunter would rather get out of this gnat infested floor faster than anyone else in this party, and to do that, they needed to defeat this creature post haste.  There were many more hunts to go on today, and he didn't want to be hung up on this one.

It was around then the serpent went in for the strike, to which the dagger user could not move to avoid, nor could he hit it.  The hunter took this opportunity to let loose with another of his eight count sword art, Howling Octave.  The serpents health dropped into the red until it was only a blip.

"End that thing, now!"

@Hirru

Just as the monster was about to turn to attack Hirru, Seul found it as a prime opportunity to make his own attack. With his dagger taking on a faint glow he allowed the miniature blade to cut through the snake's neck, causing it to explode into an array of pixels soon after the two slashes made contact. With the fight over he was free to walk over and claim the dropped item as a prize. After examining the vial of poison he shrugged and simply tossed it over to his guildmate. "I don't really want it so it's all yours."

The experience from the fight was going to be enough to push him to the next level and the thought of getting even closer to using the next tier of equipment excited him to no end. A slow but steady rise in power was something he was accustomed to by now and there were no plans of stopping that any time soon.
