[F21- Rank 8 Artisan] Odds and Ends ~ (Closed)

Recommended Posts

The artificial sun rolled across the morning sky, light filtering through the partially opened blinds into the brightly decorated bedroom. In the corner stood a tall post, adorned by a Phoenix that perched upon the top, sound asleep. A ruffling came from the bed frame just on the opposite side of the room, followed by an exaggerated huff as the blue-haired woman revealed herself from the mess of covers.

Her morning routine hadn't changed since settling down in the first floor shop; wake up, tend to outstanding orders, practice with her guild and then return to the shop, taking breaks from her duties whenever necessary. Contrast to how similar her life was back in the real world, she didn't much mind the change of pace. At least she had a life to build upon in Aincrad, an end goal which she'd work towards, that would benefit more than just her own well being.

For now, however, she had accessories to make. A woman who held Seul in tow had made a request, and Birdie wasn't one to let down a customer. Getting to her feet, she floated down the stairs and into the backroom, where her work garments and trusty hammer lied dormant, waiting patiently for her arrival. "Let's get to it, then!"

All morning, sounds of metal angrily clashing with metal struck out from the backroom, causing the items on the shelves to occasionally bounce and jiggle in a strange, irregular beat. As Birdie heaved the hammer high into the air, she began to question what atrocities her past self committed to deserve such unjust luck.

It had taken a dozen or so attempts, but as Birdie stood back and felt the hammer's leather handle slip from her hands, the woman released a gargantuan sigh of relief. Between breaths, "How... how did I make 4 Perfect items the other day?" The question would linger in her head as she inspected the item, a perfect recreation of the customer's vision - according to the order form, at the very least.

Putting it into storage for later, Birdie finally managed to shake her thoughts from the item, for the time being. All that was left to do was to contact the customer, finish one final item, and then a long deserve break would await her.

Anemone was titillated that the message arrived in her inbox that the item she ordered was ready for pick up. She didn't exactly dash towards Birdie's store, but she did make quick work of finding it through the masses of people crowding the Shop District of floor one. Finally arriving, the short woman shifted her hands to her knees to gather back some of her breath. With a deep and slow inhale, she stood erect and fixed the pigtails in her hair as she slowly made her way towards the counter, "Ugh, excuse me. I am here to pick up my item..." The soft voice came out of her like a whisper, could be hard to tell if she said anything at all to Birdie as she placed both hands on the counter to acknowledge that someone was there in case her voice had failed her. Surely enough the item she had waited for was revealed to her, "Did @Seul pay you already? The craftsmanship is very well done, I am glad I stopped by this location. Thank you very much Miss Birdie." Several bows were made to the shopkeeper as Anemone decorated her neck with the necklace. This will definitely help out her healing abilities now. That was two of three equipment pieces she had, just one more to go.

A little Birdie told this certain that the items she requested were ready to be picked up. Since she didn't have anything better to do, Ariel decided to descend to the noob town to collect. Her first time attempting in reaching the raising artisan's s shop ended in failure as her memory worked against her and she ended up getting lost through the alleyways. On her second attempt she diligently followed the map and found out that her intuition, on this case, guided her on the other side of the starting town.

Letting out a relieved sigh as she ended in front of the desired shop, she stepped right in and waved at the clerk that was tending to other costumers. Seeing a pair of items with her name on them. After a careful examination, she nodded in approval and swapped the two items for 2000 col from he inventory.

"A pleasure doing business with you!" Said the blonde uninterested of a reply as she headed towards the exit.

Seul had agreed to pay for Anemone’s item and although he was late, he would stay good on his word. He entered the shop and sought out Birdie, opening up his inventory to give her the col in return for her service. He wasn't quite done yet though. whether he liked it or not his coat was starting to outlive its usefulness. Enemies were dealing more damage than he could heal, so it was time for a change of pace as far as he was concerned about his equipment was concerned. After picking up one of the order forms he began to scribble down the desired specs for his request before passing it along to the woman.

To avoid the long wait from last time though he would just pay in advance before leaving that way it would be an easy pickup once the crafting was done.

“Hope you'll be able to get this done eventually.”

As a treasure hunter, the most important thing was to find treasure. To do that, you needed the best gear available. How do you get the best gear? You roll the wheel of hope and pray that you get what you want. However, the wheel of hope can only get you so far. Even worst, the wheel of hope does not work on accessories. This left Row no choice but to venture out and look for an Artisan. It did not take long as she only had to look through the first floor. Bluebird's Workshop. It had such a pretty name so Row as forced to enter. "Hello, anyone home?" It did not take long for the girl to find a stack of forms. She did not mind filling it out as she waited for service. "Lets see... Teru Teru Bozo Row, and it will be a lucky charm. I hope the Artisan knows what a Teru Teru Bozu is... they are so adorable!" Now that her form was done, she placed it up on the counter and waited for service.

As she gazed upon the Bluebird Workshop one last time, a soft sigh left her throat. Hundreds upon hundreds of wasted materials, countless hours spent honing her craft, dozens of faces she would never forget... each memory brought her closer to the verge of tears, though only the happiest would be shed. The 'Remove Ownership' button appeared before her. She held a finger over the imposing button, and- with one final look at the shop's cosy interior- everything disappeared in a flash. In an instant, the interior had been reverted to the way she found it originally. So long, 1st floor...

Sometime later -

Birdie was crouched beside a table, her eyes squinting with strenuous intent as she carefully adjusted the position of a single trinket. The move hadn't taken nearly as long as predicted, and with most of the new shop's interior ready to go, only a few mundane tasks stood between the brand new business' grand unveiling. Of course, her plans for such an occasion were none other than secluding herself for hours at a time, tirelessly praying for those near-perfect items. Her thoughts led astray to the crafting hammer sitting idly by her desk, temptations overwhelming.

Sat upon her desk, Birdie was designing two brand new pieces of equipment: the Vanguard Signet and Finder's Keeper MK-II. Given she put a certain amount of love into her work, neither charm should take the Artisan very long to make at all, and as one final stroke of luck, the Artisan prayed that at least two of her eight daily attempts would end up in Perfect success.

As the final material let off an intense light and cooled, she watched it become yet another uninteresting silver accessory. Exactly two attempts had ended with the results she'd been hoping for, both the Vanguard Signet and Finder's Keeper MK-II appearing before her very eyes, and she could cross two more tasks from her mental checklist. As Birdie went to pack away both items, she caught a glimpse of her Profession EXP in the top-right corner of the menu and a look of surprise washed over her immediately. If she were lucky, Rank 8 would be less than two solid days of crafting away.

"Alright, let's see. Rubies, rubies, rubies..." Birdie poured through the contents of her shop inventory for the right type of jewels, deep red rubies which would fit Ruby's specification.

She pulled four dazzling red jewels from her inventory and, with a satisfied sigh, plopped them on the workbench. As the crafting window popped up, she selected 'Perfect' quality and '+3 Accuracy' for the enhancement. All it came down to now was the item's type - ring, necklace, anklet etc. She hadn't a clue what sort of accessory Ruby was fond of, the Martial Arts user had barely anything to her name beside the clothes on her back, and that wasn't saying much.

Mulling over the decision, she eventually selected an option and went to town crafting; Each material took a good beating to forge into items, and towards the end, one had turned into the much sought after Perfect quality. "Aha!"

Soon after there meet up to slay some Minotaurs, and mentioning how she had no items due to an incident, she had made her way to Birdie's store to pick up an item that she had promised to give her, however... it took a little of exploring a floor she had never been on, and she had even mentioned how Birdie had... an extra item for her to pick up, she didn't ask for more than one item but if she was willing to hand over something old that she had for a while, she wasn't going to complain about getting an item since she had none to her name. Ruby had eventually had made her way to Birdie's and knocked on her door before entering "Hello...? Birdie?" then eventually she had met up with the bluenette and then bowed thanking her about a thousand times helping her out with her current situation. She had looked down to the items and said to Birdie with a smile "I love these! Thank you so much!" she then placed them into her inventory and reached over and gave her a hug "I promise to repay you somehow, but for now I gotta bounce, thanks again Birdie!"

"See you later!" Birdie waved after the blonde and rested her hands upon the workbench, letting loose a sigh. The day hadn't gone quite as she was expecting, with it starting in a bar on the third floor and ending at the exit of a labyrinth with a new friend at her side.

Ruby, the friend in question and the woman who'd just left Odds and Ends, seemed alright to the bluebird. Birdie wasn't the best judge of character but she knew that the woman had a genuine personality; confident and caring, if a little overly frisky. Their meeting led to Birdie's offer of creating the woman a piece of equipment and now that it was handed over, she could begin work on a fresh set of crafts. Unsure and undecided on what to make, she thought it best to go broad and see what came of her crafting hammer colliding a variety of tier one materials.

She hummed, uncertain. She hadn't a need for any items in particular nor did a friend express their need for one, so it was anyone's guess what sort of crafts would come of the session. Projects were quite an unexplored area of hers, given their grand size and unease of transport, so it might've been best for her to spend at least one day learning the ins and outs of creating giant sculptures. All the hard work was taken out by SAO's crafting system, anyway; Just a few whacks of her hammer upon a large enough sheet of marble and it would be ready to go.

Her mind made, she gripped her prized crafting hammer and sauntered over to the backroom of Odds and Ends, where large unhandled slabs of stone and wood sat idle and ready to be moulded. She didn't have any idea what enhancements could come of them (other than Overhealth, which she'd had the pleasure of seeing used one single instance). There was only one way to find out.

The projects... did not go so well. Though one or two produced satisfactory results, no creation brought with it the much-desired Perfect property, and at that, she classed the session as a failure. Perhaps they would make her some coin once sold off to a merchant - if she could find one willing enough to buy them.

This time around, she'd opted for the usual category of daily crafting, tier two lucky charms that she might be able to salvage an equip or two from. Her true intention was to level up her profession, of course, in hopes of reaching the fabled Rank 10 which few if any dedicated craftspersons ever achieved. She wouldn't be the first nor the second, nor likely one of the first ten to reach such a height, but it was a long-term goal to slowly chip away at whilst not out mob slaying and earning experience points. Striking hammer on metal materials, she began.

"Okay. These past two days have been... not very kind, let's say, but I'm feeling it this time!"

The blue-clad Artisan sat still at her table, Crafting Hammer in hand and head held high. Her words held truth - in the past twenty-six crafting attempts if she'd recalled correctly, not a single perfect item had been bestowed upon her by the lords of probability. It was shameful for such a practised craftsperson to fail at their craft, and she only thanked the non-existent Gods of Aincrad that her doors hadn't been open for the public to bear witness.

Today would be better, she told herself, hammer in hand and crafting window open. Like most other days, she'd selected the standard preset for random item crafting: tier two, lucky charm-type items, with intended results set to anything she thought of in the moment. Hopefully, her next ten attempts wouldn't end in such failure.

Hollow footsteps accompanied an exasperated sigh as Birdie marched through the doors of Odds and Ends, the familiar flickering of candlelight acting as a pleasant sight after a day of madness. Spiders dotted around the rocky plains outside the city had proven greater tougher than anticipated, though the Artisan's material gains were much to her liking.

Materialising the sack of arachnid-related crafting materials, she sorted through each of them and categorised them accordingly - not that it mattered at all when it came to actually using them, but she having them in piles to pick and choose from as she saw fit.

The last day of crafting had gone well. Two perfects, she reminded herself, having revelled in joy at achieving two maximum quality crafts. The days hadn't been kind to her in that regard - twenty-six consecutive attempts without so much as a single perfect - but the brief shower of bad luck appeared to come to an end. Or so she hoped.
