[F4-PP] A Slave to your Passion <Open, MAT gathering & Combat Thread>

Recommended Posts

The cold weather always suited her, it was what she had grown up with and so, it was what she loved to experience. The chill across your cheeks, the goose bumps that leapt up on the back on your neck. All the wonderful sensations of the cold weather that the she had grown up with. Katherine had many fond memories of the snow, only a few of them were poor. With her friends, her pets, her family.

But now, on the 4th floor, Katherine, also known as Eatos in the world of Sword Art Online. There was no other floor she'd prefer to live on, it was as close to home as she was going to get. Donning her equipment, the girl exited and locked her store. The girl had exhausted her resources within her store, and now required more. She had one requested order from a guild-mate, Hei. She needed many new materials, many ores, to create her arsenal of weapons. Her personal inventory of unlimited weapons. How she needed to simply get it.

She strode out of the town, pickaxe in hand, and began her search for materials. She had no need to wait, she had a goal, and set herself upon it.

The girl, upon exiting her store, headed in the direction of Frostbite Lake. If there was nowhere else on this floor she adored more than her own store, than it was that lake. She was a city girl, always had been, but despite that, it was somewhere she loved to be. It made her feel related, lowering her guard so that she need no worry about death, for it was where she felt completely safe in a danger zone.

Her amber eyes looked over the peaceful late, a truly beautiful sight in her eyes. One that, ironically, she wouldn't get in her normal home very often. There was no lake near her apartment complex, so this sight was very special to her. With that image in her mind, one that calmed her, she took out her pickaxe and swung it at the ground. It was hard to tell where, under the snow, was a mineral patch. So she had to guess, and swung with all her might into the snowy ground. After several swungs, she looked in and couldn't not pout. There was nothing, shame...She had such hopes, perhaps hunting down materials in the snow wasn't the smartest idea...

After her unsuccessful first swing, the girl had opted to take a small break. She was at Frostbite Lake, so she did what she always did whenever she found herself there. She sung a song.

"Although, the waves, moving like time...Each path, it is yours to take" These two lines she focused on, it was how she sung. She always picked the verses to practise and get perfect, then once she was happy with that verse, she'd sing the entire verse once she'd learnt it. It was just her style on singing practise, of course, it did sorta rely on no one being there to listen. Despite all the practising she was doing, she hated it when people listened to her singing. It was embarrassing, it was just a little something for herself, no one else.

"I wonder..." She muttered out loud, before frowning. She was certain she'd spotted something in the corner of her eye, but she wasn't honestly sure. She walked over, pickaxe in hand, and gave it a few practise swings, before raising it above her head and slammed it down onto the ice. It shattered apart before her, and materials poured out of the ground. She placed it in the inventory, 4 materials. She grinned, her skill, Gatherer, was bearing its fruit. It had become worthwhile setting that ability after all.

After her first successful gathering, Eatos had celebrated. She had allowed herself to spin around in the snow, but soon tripped over...herself. She crash landed into the snow, but she didn't care. She rolled around in the snow, loving the feelings as she relived many a childhood memory within the cold loving embrace that the cold provided her. She even stayed still within the snow as it filtered down upon her, and she smiled. She'd missed the snow more and more that she thought about it.

"Oh Gluttony, what i'd give to hear you barking line the insane pup you are..." She missed her dog, more than she'd admit. That hungry husky puppy was often demanding of her attention, leaping into her lap when she was reading a book was a very common occurrence, that or leaping onto her when she'd just gotten comfortable in bed. Standing up, the girl swung her pickaxe at the same place she'd done previously. And as she drew her pickaxe away, she grinned. Another 4 materials just for her! Soon, she'd have all the materials she needed to create all the weapons she desired. That's how she'd protect everyone...With weapons and armour!

After her second successful mining attempt, Eatos didn't waste much time in hunting down her third. The aimed for the same spot, the same one that had so far given her plenty of fruit for her harvest. She raised her pickaxe above her head, tightened her grip, and brought it down hard into the mineral patch once again. She swung it once, and again, and again. Eventually, she looked and, to her pleasure, her work reaped its rewards with 4 more ores for her to be using.

"Woooooo!" The girl yelled, and even jumped, to celebrate her victory! Her mining was going amazingly well already, and she was where she loved. The air of the 4th floor agreed with her, hell, everything about this floor she loved...Almost. She had yet to encounter the monsters that could roam in the areas she enjoyed to spend her time, and as a result, feared the possibility of being attacked. But, the more she thought about it, the less likely it was to happen. She had her weapon, Rapier of Wrath, but not only that, her defensive equipment ensured her survival. Sins' Protection and Aegis of Sin make it very difficult for monsters to get the drop on her, not when she could regenerate everything they do to her.

As she allowed her mind to roam about her equipment, her infinite arsenal of weapon that she would use to protect those who are willing to fight. It was the best she could do, the only thing that she could do. She wasn't a warrior, she couldn't fight on the front lines of the battlefield. But sitting back, she couldn't do that either. At least, as a blacksmith, she could offer everyone the equipment they desired, what they needed, in order to be able to survive.

The girl dragged herself out of the snow, although she did enjoy lying in it. She had never found it cold, not to the point of making her run, so while others would spend a hot day at the beach, she would spend a cold day in the snow. It was what she loved. Taking a cool breath of fresh air, she picked up the pickaxe and swung it at the ground. The same place as last time, it had yet to go wrong, so why not abuse it? She grinned as she had, once again, successfully managed to acquire 4 more materials! Gatherer was making the 10 SP she'd used to purchase it more than worthwhile. This one trip had made it worth while, and she had many more to go, that's for damn sure!

4 times, she had been successful in gathering materials. Part of her wondered how many times she could milk the one spot for resources, but she opted not to question it. She spun the pickaxe within her hand, tightening her grip on its handle. She took aim, and swung it down, hard. It crashed down into the snow, and she swung it again, and again. After several swings, the girl paused. Had she pushed her luck too far? Had she mined this spot too exhaustion?

Thankfully, she was wrong, and Materials were added into her inventory. She had to admit, her luck was starting to pick up. It was a nice shift, she enjoyed it greatly. How much longer could she mine that one spot? She bit her lower lip, but opted to simply lie down once again. She buried herself in the snow, lying and relaxing in it.

"Although the times move on, we must stay true" She sung out softly, repeating the single line over and over again. In the cold air that filled her lungs, it was natural for her, and she felt that it improved her singing ability a lot.

Eventually, after many minutes of singing, Eatos sat up. It wasn't that her throat hurt, no, the cold air often made it easier for her to sing, it was something else that bothered her that had caused an end to her singing. A thought of her family and friends back in the real world. Did they miss her, could they, see her? Would they approve of her decisions within the game, or judge her for not brave enough to fight for her freedom? She shrugged, honestly she thought that they'd be proud in her ability to manage her own business, something they'd always been pushing her to do.

She stood up, but that is when her mind went to her roommates, the people that got her involved in gaming in the first place. She hoped that they didn't feel that it was their fault she was involved in all this. She equipped her pickaxe, and swung at the same place for the 5th time. However, it was not to be and the girl laughed. She honestly should have seen that coming, she could abuse that one place for only so long before it gave up on her. She shrugged, time to move on and find a new spot to mine from.

The girl walked along the side of Frontbike late, searching, hunting. She needed a new spot to mine from, although she wasn't sure where to go. The 4th floor was beautiful, of that she had no doubt. However, the beauty of the snow did make it hard to spot patches where she thought ores would exist. She hunted for many minutes, all the while singing softly into the cold winds that blew around. The longer she walked, the more it seemed to snow and the girl found herself brushing off more and more snow from the shoulder-guard of her armour.  As she walked, her mind also went back to her roommates. She hoped they didn't feel any guilt that she was trapped within the game. They wanted nothing more than for her to enjoy life, to laugh more, that's why they had introduced her to the world of gaming. And now, ironically, she was trapped without them. But, she'd make do. She may have been a support style player, but she was far from unable to defend herself.

She paused, spotting something beneath the snow. In a movement of Gusto, she raised her pickaxe and swung it into the snow, hacking away to open it up. However, all her efforts had done nothing except reveal more snow beneath it. She pouted, and impaled the pickaxe into the ground. At first, her mining had been going fantastically! Now...Less so.

After her failure in finding another spot to mine from, the blacksmith moved on. As she walked through the snow, she sung away and fidgetted with her hair. It wasn't uncommon for her to do so, although, even she would admit, normally she had a companion. Gluttony, her pet from back home. A large husky that she'd had since he was a pup, she smiled at the mere memories that he brought up within her. When she'd first gotten the pup, its first time playing in the snow, interrupting her birthday party by accidentally unplugging the speakers and spilling half the food from the table, all because he wanted to dance with her and her friends.

None of the memories were bad, all of them made her smile. Even now, a world away, she had a feeling that her Husky, now a big doggo, was waiting for her. Probably growling at anyone who got close to her. She swung the pickaxe in her hands, and brought it down on a patch of ice. But nothing. She pouted, and even kicked the ground. What had been going so well and grounded to a halt.

With the thoughts of her still fixated on her pet back home, the Blacksmith walked herself back to Frostbite lake. The white and blue painting that surrounded her on all sides was, in the amber of her eyes, a beautiful sight to behold. At least, in her eyes. After all, what was more lovely than the solitude that the cold offers? Some people went to the beach, or out to massive clubs. While Katherine would spend her days in the snow and nights with a book, or her pup, snuggling up and having a drink.

The girl laughed at the current situation, how here she was, where the pup would absolutely love, and yet, she was here without him. She could invision him now, if he was at her side, barking at her and rolling in the snow, demanding she come play with him. She smiled, strolling forwards. Perhaps, she should get herself a pup while trapped within the walls of this death game. It was something she desired after all, and there was nothing to stop her but herself...

Pickaxe in hand, she swung it at the ground, and was very surprised at being successful in gathering 4 more materials. After all, she hadn't aimed. But was far from against it. After all, the more materials, the more equipment she'd be able to make

Eatos opened her inventory to checked what she'd managed to pick up. So far, 28 materials, all thanks to her skill Gatherer. She shuddered to think about what would have happened had she not chosen that skill early on, how much she'd have to slave away in order to gatherer everything for her work. She realized that those who were combat focused players, yet still worked for a business, how hard it must be for them to survive. Hell, she was struggling and she could gather 4 times the materials that they'd be able to with the same amount of effort put in. How they were successful in managing a store was beyond her, but, perhaps it was just how they preferred to live in this game.

Each to their own, as the saying went. But her way was different, her way was not to fight on the front, but support from the back. With that in mind, she spun the pickaxe in her hand, and hammered it down on the same spot as before. And once again, she gathered 4 more materials. She grinned, it was soon, she'd be able to return to her store, and unleash her weapons upon all the monsters that stood against her and everyone elses' freedom.

  • 3 weeks later...

Sword Art Online had trapped her, forced her to be its prisoner. She never wanted this, to live out her life trapped with an MMO, alone. And she'd never forgive those who ensnared her, he who made the damn game and made her life hell, had killed so many! She would never forget, nor forgive him for what he had done. But, as much as it pained her to admit it, the game itself was wonderful. The design was amazing, each floor had its own designs and looked real. If she didn't know any different, she could have very well mistaken SAO for the real world....Even now, it was real in so many ways, some of them sickening.

Pickaxe in hand, she took another swing at the ice, shattering it, and being successful in gathering up 4 more materials! She grinned, soon she'd be able to create everything she needed to get big. All she needed was a few more materials...

The girl continues to walk through the snow, and while she did, she contemplated what Sword Art Online could have been, had it not become what it was. What would have happened had it not become a game of death? What would have happened if it had been been forced to be this way? What would have become of the game, would it be popular or fall into obscurity?  Part of her wish she could know, part of her wished she didn't even have to think about those possibilities. And yet, that was the reality of what she was faced with.

What would happen once this game was over? What would the world look like, what would she have missed? Part of her wanted to know, another part was terrified of the truth. What would the world do because of this game? As someone involved in the history, would she have to teach it, would it be remembered throughout history?

Pickaxe in hand, the girl swung, but once again, failed to find any materials. She let out a sigh, but it would just mean she needs to keep hunting,

"I wonder who my guild mates really are?"

The girl had been resting against a tree with the single thought within her mind. Who did she really know in this game, who thought they really knew her? The unspoken rules of the internet were interesting, although, SAO did revolutionise it in two ways. The first being how the games system enforces her real life appearance, she coulld hide behind her avatar, not could she use a keyboard to talk to people she didn't know. They knew she was a girl, something online that seemed rather unusual in a male dominated genre. It had always unsettled her, males online, and that's part of why she often never went online without at least one of her roommates , who did the talking for her.

Still deep in thought, the girl made a practise swing of her pickaxe, before taking aim and swinging it hard. IT shattered the ice, and she picked up some more materials. Soon she'd be able to help her guild mates, but the question was who were they really? Who was Atzo, Vargas, Hydra, Stryder...Who were the people behind the avatar?

Did it matter who they were? Honestly, it shouldn't matter too much who really lived behind that avatar, but she couldn't help but be curious. After all, she knew that the way she was in the game, and real life, differed significantly. In the real world, she was independent, confident and usually went her own way. But trapped within the confines of SAO, she often found herself conforming with others when she would have gone her own way. And the reason was rather simple.

She knew the 'rules' of the real world, but Sword Art Online was different. She could be killed by anything at any time and that was it. That fear is what lingered within her, walking around could result in death. While the same could be said about the real world, if she was honest and cynical with herself, she'd rather die in the real world than in a video game.

Thinking of the said game, she took a swing with her pickaxe, but her swing resulted in nothing. She opened her inventory and eye'd the 36 materials sitting in her inventory, she couldn't get frustrated after such a successful haul.

As the girl thought about who really was behind the avatars, the next through came along. Who would leave the game alive? More than just the players who didn't die, but who as in, the person. She knew, for example, that the girl who had logged on was dead. She was so different than she was when she turned this game on. Who else was different because of this game? Those little children, if they were even alive still, would be scared for life. Would they ever be able to play a game ever again? It was impossible for her to work it out, but she just hoped that, out of those who DO survive this trap, they weren't scared.

One successful pickaxe swing later, the girl watched as 4 more materials entered her inventory.

"What about me?" She asked the wind that cooled her face, despite the fact that she was alone "Who will i be when i leave this game? Will Katherine leave, or Eatos...?"

The question wasn't answered by the wind...Nor the girl that stood in the snow

At the end of the day, there was nothing she could do about it. A person was an ever-changing concept and, the  girl who entered this game was surely dead, and the girl who was alive now would be dead, replaced by someone else when she left this game. If there was one exception to this rule, she'd hoped it for the children. Those underage and stuck in this game, oh how it wasn't fair. At least someone like her was capable of looking after themselves, but the children, well, it was over for them.

As she thought, she took a swing with her pickaxe, but failed to get anything. But admittantly, the girl wasn't really thinking about the pickaxe. Sword Art Online was an MMO was an 'end phase', a boss room. Not just on each floor, but had a final boss. Floor 100, there was a final boss. But, the progression getting up the floors had already killed so many....Was it even possible to get to the 100th floor and beat the boss?!

The silence of the 4th floor was overwhelming as she questioned the possibility. Was Sword Art Online even possible to beat? It was a question she'd asked herself before, as had most players, but this was the first time she'd honestly put active thought into it. At first, her reaction was yes. Everything in the gaming world, every challenge, was build was a solution. A way to get past it. That was the entire point of MMO games, the developer would set a tough, but completible challenge,  and it was on the players to find the solutions and win.

But Sword Art Online was different, it broke the rules in so many different ways, perhaps the floor bosses was another break in the rules? She didn't know, and was, in a way, glad she wouldn't be finding out any time soon.

With a swing of her pickaxe, she was successful in grabbing 4 more Tier 1 Materials. Soon, she'd be able to make everything she needed...soon.

Her own laughter echoed in the icey-cold wind. The girl had a silly grin on her face, despite that her most recent pickaxe swing had failed. She'd eventually realized something, and even though she doubted it in a way, she had come to a single conclusion. Sword Art Online was completable.

Sword Art Online existed for a purpose right? She was certain of it, and so, whoever had exited the software of the game wanted something from it. What was t, she had no idea, but it was something they wanted from them all. Information, hostages? Whatever it was, they had successfully taken so many people as a hostage. They had to have a plan, or they wanted a game.

They had set a challenge for every person who purchased Sword Art Online, to pass the game. And now, with 44 Tier 1 Materials, she could do her part in that war.
