{SP-F4} Forsaken Legacy Part 2

Recommended Posts

The golems seemed to have more than just awareness and intelligence.  Itzal and Velnia watched them and noticed that they were beginning to move around as well as attack now.  An object in motion tends to stay in motion.  This made maneuverability easier for the heavy golems, making it harder for Itzal to hit them.  He tried to strike them before they picked up enough momentum but the monsters blocked him and when Velnia struck they completely ignored the attack.  With their momentum and heavy bodies and armor, her lightweight body couldn't touch them.  Not even her electricity would help in this situation.  Things were looking very bad right now, but it really wasn't.  Itzal knew that all it would take was a single hit.  One more hit and these golems were down for the count.

Itzal and Velnia continued to change their pattern and keep it unpredictable, and slowly the golems seemed to be losing pace with the two agile avatars.  Distractions were also very useful so they would often find new and unique ways to strike at the golems but not actually be there, such as Velnia shooting lighting which Itzal reflected off of his sword towards them.  Throwing objects at the golems that they found lying around.  And more other options became apparent as the two scanned the debris in the area.  It was well built but there would always be flaws in structures, no matter how advanced or solidly built.  Soon enough the golems left a wide enough opening for Itzal to move in and release Shadow Explosion, ending the two golems swiftly.  He watched as the loot menu popped up, revealing col and materials as their reward.  Itzal didn't care much for the col or materials though.  He didn't need any col now that he bought his house, and he had far more materials than he actually needed.

With this fight over with Itzal  stepped over the two broken golems and bent down to study them closer.  Their outer coating was a thin layer of hardened stone, but the stone itself and the way it was processed and created was unknown to him.  Plus there seemed to be something added to the stone but to discover the secrets to these answers would require further details.  Beyond this stone, now that it was finally broken, he could see that it was in fact a machine.  If he studied them he might be able to see how they worked and what powered them, as well as give them intelligence, but for now he needed to focus on finding his way to the boss room.  He walked over to the hallway and made his way down, Velnia following close behind him.  "Come on Velnia.  The faster we get to the boss the faster we get the experience."

The two made their way down the hall, Itzal rather eager to see what was in store for them.  They had gone through a full dungeon and had to solve a puzzle, as well as fight two individual golems to discover exactly what he'd been fighting to discover.  And when he finally did pass through the archway, he stopped dead in his tracks with his jaw dropped and eyes wide.  If you've ever played Skyrim you'll know what Blackreach is.  Now imagine the general size of Blackreach, but circular and...  Very, very deep.  He rushed over to the edge and looked down, guessing that it went all the way down to the first floor.  He looked up again and couldn't see the top.  He scanned the walls and saw that the city was made up of buildings dug into the walls, the streets hanging off of the indents of the huge dwarven made design.  There was so much to explore, to discover, that there was no way Itzal would be able to explore and memorize it all, let alone in a day.  He spotted what looked like a plaza nearby and made his way over to that.  Cautiously of course, as this was a dungeon, and not a safe zone city.

Itzal walked onto the plaza and scanned the area.  It had three paths.  One he was just on.  Another that led into what seemed like underground tunnel equivalent of alleyways, and the third that continued the path along the edge of the circular...  Cylinder...  Cavern...  Dwarven city.  Along the edge of the plaza were different stalls for shopkeepers to sell to incoming citizens.  However there seemed to be a mechanical pedestal in the center as well.  Itzal walked over and saw that it was designed to hold a device but the device itself was missing.  The wording however, was in Japanese and thus he was able to read it.  Or rather, figure it out since it had faded for a while now.  Essentially there was a sort of, test that had to be completed before people could...  Could what?  That was one of the things faded...  As well as what the test was.  What it did hold however, were coordinates.  He looked down the alleyway and sighed.  Alright then, better get started he thought.  "Come on Velnia.  Maybe there's some food that survived all this time."

As Itzal made his way down the alleyway he scanned the area around him for traps.  Couldn't be too careful, and if he found one he might be able to dismantle it and salvage it as materials.  Once he did he could do so all over the place...  Unless the traps here were like in Skyrim where the dwarven traps were huge blades that popped out of the walls and floors and skewered you instantly...  That would not be pleasant.  Itzal heard what he thought was a hissing sound before he was propelled forward at extreme speeds.  Sliding across the ground he saw that his health had dropped a great deal and turned around to see two golems that had just shot him with their fireballs.  Velnia swooped in, distracting them a bit when he rushed up and lashed out his sword art on them, dealing decent damage.  He couldn't wait till things sped up.

The golems went into defensive mode after that, which Itzal knew would make things difficult.  From here they would be studying him and finding ways to counter his attacks or block and deflect.  He needed a way to keep them from defending themselves in such a way.  He closed his eyes as he thought about the previous enemies.  There was an opening, though a bit small, with each joint as well as the back of the head of the golems.  If he could find a way to strike the internal areas...  Velnia kept the golems distracted with her lightning breath while Itzal made his way around, swiftly yet silently.  He then rushed up from behind, releasing Shadow Explosion and targeted the weak points and he could hear the mechanics getting severed, though it seemed only barely.  It seemed to be enough however as a unique oil shot out and the devices seemed to have shorted out briefly.

Itzal was getting ready to land another strike when something popped up on his menu, interrupting his attack and wasting his sword art and energy:  There was a patch update evidently and unfortunately it only popped up once.  Thankfully the monsters were paralyzed so he would be able to read it without interruption or danger.  The first thing to show was that Blacksmiths and tailors mechanical systems had changed, and that merchants required col, not materials, to identify items.  That would be easy for Itzal since he didn't need any col anymore.  The second half explained that...  Itzal couldn't believe it.  Here he was, clearing out an intermediate dungeon, and he just found out that he would not be receiving any bonus experience from this trip whatsoever.  He was half tempted to just abandon it and call it a day, but he could at least scan the rest of the city right?

Itzal watched as the golems began to move again.  Regardless of whether or not he'd be getting experience, he'd need to finish off these golems first.  He disbanded the patch notice and leaped to his left before the golem's fireball could hit him.  It was really close, but not quite enough to hit Itzal.  The golems then began to move towards him and Itzal let them this time around.  As the monsters attacked, while they were faster than they looked, Itzal was even faster.  He was able to evade most of their attacks and even countered once or twice.  Finally he was between the two of them and Itzal dodged, then released Shadow Explosion, striking the two of them with swift fierce strikes, dealing massive damage to them and bringing their health points far closer to zero.  The leaking fluids stopped suddenly and it appeared that the machines had a system that blocked off leakages.

The golems seemed to be slowly but surely adapting to his attack patterns.  He was still able to hit the machines, but it was becoming increasingly difficult to break through their defenses.  He struck at them again and again, but they were able to deflect and parry his attacks with their metalic plated arms, countering by firing a fireball at him after he failed to land a hit.  He continued to strike before he realized that once he hit them another time he would need to change tactics to throw them off.  After all their health was running low.  His blade glowed as he activated the sword art Shadow Explosion another time, the blade making several dents in the machine's armor, the golems sparking now that their health was under forty points.  He decided that he would head back after this.  If he wasn't getting rewards he didn't need to worry about the rest of this.  He could just move to an intermediate dungeon and explore this place with Jonathan.

With the golems weakened due to their lack of health, the fight would go far more smoothly.  Their own tactics changed, focusing on all out offensive attacks.  While the golems had extremely powerful attacks, their movement was not the best on any level.  What made up for this weakness was their mechanical defenses, mainly the armor plating.  Any new attack Itzal attempted on them didn't pass through the armor plating.  He tried to attack from behind but it seemed that these golems had extra plating than the previous ones.  This was rather annoying and he had to think for a moment before realizing what was needed.  He waited until they charged and opened their fireball slots to attack and released his sword art, striking the inner mechanics of the launcher, finishing off their health.  He watched the rewards menu pop up and read through it.  Materials and col.  He didn't have anymore use for either of them other than the occasional item purchase.  He'd probably give it to someone else somewhere along the line.

Itzal took a breather before looking for materials nearby.  He found some and picked them up, inserting them into his inventory.  The moment he did he heard an all too familiar voice from behind.  "I am so disappointed in you right now."  Itzal's eyes shot open and twisted around, taking a huge leap back, Velnia following behind him.  Fearx, head to toe in his golden armor, shook his head.  "That the best you can do Itzal?  Much better username than your last one by the way."  "Fearx!"  he said with hatred.  The player shrugged in response.  "Stating the obvious I see.  Surprised?  I cleared this dungeon long ago.  When I saw the door had opened I was curious.  Now I think I'll take a break from grinding and have a little bit of fun,"  he said with a grin.  Itzal grabbed his sword and drew it.  "Attacking me now wouldn't nearly be fair.  I need more time to catch up."  Fearx howled with laughter.  "You think I'm going to fight you?!  Hell no!  I have a far better idea in mind than that!"

Itzal's stance didn't change.  He wasn't going to let his guard down.  What on earth did Fearx have planned for Itzal?  What the hell could this jerk want?  Then Fearx noticed Velnia, who was also defensive.  He chuckled.  "What enhancement is she?  Nah never mind.  I'll worry about that later."  Itzal growled.  He hated this man so much.  "Fearx what do you want?"  He looked at Itzal in confusion, like he didn't know why he asked that question.  "To have some fun.  It's been too long since I had a challenge, and while you're not nearly ready, I know what's coming up.  I'd like to be there to watch the, entertainment."  So Itzal was to be his little show?  A source of entertainment for him?  Fearx certainly did stoop lower and lower with each of their visits.  He was about to say this when Fearx passed him, heading down a path that didn't register in Itzal's map or detection skills.  A hidden path that could only be opened after a dungeon had been cleared...  "I'll see you at the end of this Itzal.  Don't disappoint me."

Itzal watched as the metalic wall closed in behind Fearx, his blood beginning to boil.  He turned to Velnia who nodded and he shot forward down the alleyway.  He would get to the end of this dungeon and he would not stop until he cleared every single dungeon on the floors between eleven and twenty one.  He would get stronger.  So strong that monsters were nothing before him.  He would get strong enough to take down Fearx and end this ancient rivalry for good.  When he did he could spend his days in peace with Kasier.  But until then, he knew Fearx would keep looking for him.  He would eventually grow bored and attack Itzal as a way to force him to get stronger faster.  He needed to get strong enough to destroy Fearx.  He spotted materials sticking out from the wall and as he passed them he grabbed the four with his hand, inserting them in his inventory.

As he walked past two pillars, he heard a sound he recognized as the sound of gears shifting and locking into place.  He leaped forward, rolling across the ground as he did so in order to avoid getting hit by the attacks.  The fireballs zoomed past where he was, striking the walls between and letting loose a massive explosion that blocked their view of Itzal.  While he had the opportunity Itzal would draw his sword and wait for the fire to go down and-  The monsters charged through the flames, the heat doing nothing to them.  Itzal activated charge and released Shadow Explosion on them, dealing decent damage as usual, and didn't stop attacking until he was safely on the other side.  These monsters would be six out of ten.  After defeating these, he would have four more to defeat.  After that he would be taking on the boss.

Itzal leaped up to avoid the next attack from the golems.  The golems were agile and very skilled, but even they couldn't change direction to aim directly upwards and fire.  Velnia flew up and connected her feet with Itzal's, letting him push off of her and down towards the monsters below, releasing Shadow Explosion again.  He struck where he believed the armor to be weak, and where the mechanical systems seemed to be held.  The attack dealt one hundred and fifty three damage in total as it landed as a hyper critical, and also activated bleed and paralysis.  Itzal leaped backward after the attack, only to see the two shutting down temporarily, no doubt to repair the damage he had just dealt to them and restart, ready to fight again.  If he could land paralysis again it would do him good.  From his calculations, two more hits would do the trick.  Just two more.

Itzal circled around and stopped to analyze the situation.  The golems were automatically repairing and the process seemed to start with the inner mechanics, before pulling in the outer shell and setting it in place.  If Itzal was fast and accurate enough, he'd be able to strike their mechanical systems a second time.  He readied his blade before charging forward.  His window was shrinking rapidly, watching as electricity burst out and their health dropped a little bit.  It seemed that rather than oil coming out, electricity would be the source of bleed.  He released Shadow Explosion, angled his blade, and successfully struck the mechanics just as they began to set the armor back into place.  Causing bleed and paralysis to reset, and both of them to lose a limb:  An arm for one, and a leg for the other.  One more shot would do the trick.  Bleed or no, this last shot would end the monsters.  Therefore he needed to hit them this time, or else they had another shot at hitting him.

Itzal saw the mechanism repairing itself twice as fast this time, starting with the outer protection to keep the interior devices secure and protected.  That didn't matter however.  One last hit and the battle would end.  He charged at the two and released Shadow Explosion, dealing one hundred and fifty three damage, passing over the one hundred and twenty nine remaining points of health the golems had.  They didn't have enough time to repair themselves in time and thus this fight had ended.  He watched as they shattered into crystals.  He straightened himself and watched as the rewards menu popped up.  Two materials, one perfect consumable, and three thousand, seven hundred eighty col was his reward.  With his now having a house to share with Kasier he didn't exactly need the col.  Perhaps he could find someone at low level who needed gear, or someone else trying to get themselves a house or two.  Either way, Itzal had to move on.  Six out of ten golems defeated.

Fearx.  Fearx.  Fearx.  That was the username that filled him with rage back then, and it haunted him even now.  He didn't fear the player.  He wouldn't even pay him mind if the man hadn't backed him into a corner.  At this point however, he wasn't really given much of a choice in the matter.  Fearx wanted a final battle so he'd be getting it.  However, he wondered exactly how he wanted to see it end.  Did he plan on doing a battle to the death?  A duel in the arena?  What on earth could the player possibly be planning?  It was like Fearx to demand a duel, but to end it once and for all was what got Itzal thinking.  How exactly did he want to end it?  Well...  He had time to think about it he supposed.  He scanned for any additional materials but didn't spot any.  He sighed as he placed his hands on his head.  His whole world was turning upside down because of one single man.

Of course Fearx wasn't the only individual who was turning his life upside down.  Kasier and Jonathan, both extremely close to him, had impacted his life in a huge way.  Jonathan was his best friend, someone he could confide anything with.  He should probably talk to him at some point regarding Fearx and explain the situation to him.  Jonathan would understand and most likely try to do whatever he could to help Itzal.  He always did.  Always someone Itzal could trust no matter what.  And then of course there was Kasier.  The one person he didn't expect in his life.  He had doubted he'd ever get a girl in his life, and yet somehow, she fell in love with him.  Not the other way around either.  Itzal didn't fall in love with her until she revealed her feelings towards him.  He did know one thing though:  He was not going to let this go at any time.  Especially not after his proposalOnce again no materials.
