She was always raised to live in two different worlds. At home, her parents were very much traditional and insisted that she practice the ways of the her ancestors, but growing up in Japan meant that she was always being bombarded with the culture of the country around her. Meiying always struggled with this, never quite being able to hide her Japanese side from her parents. Meiying always wanted to follow in the footsteps of her mother and become a scholar of language. She grew up learning Chinese, Japanese, and English, which was very beneficial, but was embarrassing when she would get her words mixed around at school and have be scolded by the teachers for speaking words they did not understand. Meiying's father, however, was always cold and stern towards her. He always made sure that Meiying had discipline in her life, and sometimes his "discipline" crossed over into the realm of abuse. So when her father left her mother and went back to China, Meiying could not help but to feel some form of relief. It was her father's return that prompted Meiying to gain an interest in Sword Art Online. She was in her final year of high school when her father returned to Japan, back from his three year stay in China with his parents. Since he returned, he had done little more than stay black out drunk on the sofa. And when he was conscious, he would constantly get into arguments with her mother. On occasion he would try to convince Meiying to leave with him and go back to China, but she would always refuse, fearing the man that her father was and not wanting to leave her mother alone in Japan. It was when he began to violently assault Meiying that she turned to virtual reality. Meiying is a shy 17 year old Chinese girl. She grew up in Japan, and this led to her garnering and interest in anime and manga. She was also an excellent student, although her exams never really showed the fruits of her hours spent studying, since she always had performance anxiety when it came time to take them. She always preferred to wear modest clothing which covered as much skin as possible, partly to keep away unwanted looks from men, and partly to hide the bruises from her abusive father. She had only ever had one real friend in Japan, and she preferred to stay over at her house as much as possible. «Virtues» Studious: Kievla likes to learn as much as she can about the world around her. She spends a vast amount of time observing and gathering information about the world she's now trapped in. Kievla often loses track of time when she gets into one of her "learning frenzies". Kind: Kievla has a very kind heart. When she sees someone in need, a strong desire rises in her to help them. However, Kievla is a rather bashful girl and sometimes ends up being too nervous to approach someone she doesn't know to offer her aid. Loyal: Kievla may not make very many friends, but she deeply treasures the ones that she does have. She does her best to always do everything that she can for those that she feels she has a bond with. Kievla never turns her back on the precious few that she calls her friends. «Flaws» Small: Kievla has always been a on the short side, and many people mistake her as being much younger than she is. She's always yearned to be even just a little taller, and comments about her height often leave her a flustered mess. She often allows her vertical handicap to get in the way of things. Shy: Kievla has always struggled with inability to forthcoming with her personality. She keeps most of her thoughts and feelings to herself and rarely goes out of her way to speak when she feels it isn't necessary. Kievla becomes nervous and embarrassed when she's around people whom she doesn't really know. Appeaser: Kievla has never been one to have a high self-esteem. Because of this, she almost always puts the needs of others before her own.
