[PP - F10] Putting an end to the «Wail of the Banshee»

Recommended Posts

Aereth chuckled. He didn't care if he got threatened by anyone after his recent encounter with the leader of the Laughing Coffin. "You would be surprised how often I get threats thrown directly into my face. So often that I don't even care anymore and believe me, after what I've been through you wouldn't care either." But when the blonde mentioned that she would love to hear the story about that cursor, Aereth rose an eyebrow. It really seemed that he managed to get the attention of the front liner. "Maybe one day I will tell you if we meet outside of the battlefield," he replied in a calm and a little bit teasing voice.

After that, not much happened. The first wave of mobs spawned, which immediately got ended by Domarus and Ariel, and the blonde found a dungeon. "Nice." he thought, and finally prepared to join the combat as well. His sword started to glow as he charged his AoE sword art and sped towards the two <<Wraith>> mobs. His blade connected with his enemies and reduced their health points by some points. "Next."

Luckily enough the ghostly figures were finished by someone that had some degree of combat prowess, at least more than the remaining members of the party. The blonde was mentally prepared to carry all of them through the quest, if necessary; like she'd done several times in the past. But now wasn't the time to reminisce as the bluenette member of their party engaged a pair of mobs that arrived a little late at the party. There weren't many rapier users these days, so the ex-fencer in this game observed the girl with some level of interest. A small frown appeared on her expression as she watched her canceling a sword art in the last moment.

The last comer's comment didn't fly passed her head that easily and as he summoned the next player, she stepped forward as she had already recovered from the post-motion delay. Preparing to take the spotlight once again, the blonde prepared for a single target assault on one of the wraiths. Unless there were a large group of them, she would refrain from using AoE sword arts for the simple reason that the enclosed space paired with the long range of her weapon... made her attacks less graceful than she desired. So she decided to go with a sword art that involved a handful of stabs, which graciously miss their main target, each an every thrust. "Aaahhh!" came a frustrated shout from the blonde as her weapon made its way around the ethereal forms.

Domarus watched with mild surprise as the blue haired girl, who seemed to be partially made of fear, had charged forward and assaulted the next monsters in the group.  Keres' eyebrows rose a little but smiled directly afterwards.  Domarus watched the girl for a little bit...  She may had some talent in her after all.  He needed to analyze her some more and watch her carefully, but it could be that this girl would prove useful for him and his organization.  He needed to find out details, such as what her intentions and plans for Aincrad were.  The strength of her resolve most definitely.  And determine if she had a profession.  He was intending to start up his guild soon, however he only had Aereth thus far.  Hidden was a part of the inner circle of course, but she wasn't one to join guilds.  And it wouldn't do to have an assassin be publicized like that.  As a result he needed two additional members to even begin the process of starting his guild.  All the details were ready but even then he would need more and more members as time moved on.  He could not remain idle.

He watched as Aereth and Ariel charged forward, Ariel failing to strike the enemies when she did.  Domarus of course, knew that it was his turn.  Domarus saw that the monsters were in a sort of ethereal or spiritual forms which he could understand, seeing as how they were phantom like monsters.  Unfortunately for them, the games mechanics made their patterns easily recognizable.  Domarus waited until Ariel had finished her attack before activating charge and launching at the monsters, releasing Explode Catapult.  His blade although heavy, moved swiftly and mercilessly.  He swung to end the monsters quickly and swiftly, uninterested in weaklings such as this.  However, while his damage had nearly decimated them, it was not enough to fully reduce their health to zero.  Once he finished his attack he moved away from their blades faster than they could react, launching backward and swinging his two handed ax blade into the ground, slowing his movement to a stop immediately and keeping him in the combat area, pulling out the ax just as quickly and ready to finish them off if the others failed to do so.

Birdie shrunk as her eyes fell to the cold stone floor - the cancelled SA resulted in a less potent delay yet it would still take a moment to recover. She lifted her head and leant aside as each party member passed by; First came Aereth and his clean AoE attack. Next was Ariel who despite missing every attempted strike, never let up against the enemy and continued to apply pressure. After watching the black-clad axeman cleave and nuke the enemy's hit points, she marvelled at Domarus' creative strategy to bring himself to a halt. And there stood Birdie, hunched over as she recovered from an attack that she couldn't follow through with.

As everyone recovered from cooldowns & delays, the bluenette was finally done with hers. She didn't desire the limelight nor did she want to display her strength; at the moment, proving that she could swing her weapon and that she wasn't an easy target was enough to push her to fight. Her Fleuret lit up a brilliant green as she dashed the closest enemy, carving a 'V' pattern into its ghostly chest before backing away from the last Wraith standing.

"That little..." Aereth rumbled more to himself than to his party members as one of the mobs got a lucky hit on him. Immediately the brunette turned around to retaliate with a mediocre level sword art. It didn't even take two hits to destroy the almost dead mob. Aereth used the momentum from turning around to trigger his sword art and in one swift motion, the mob was done. Thankfully Domarus was here with his monster area of effect attacks.

It really seemed like the mobs in this sub-dungeon were coming in waves, without giving the four players room to breathe. Immediately after Aereth finished the last one, two new, much stronger looking mobs spawned in front of them. Still stuck in post motion delay after using his sword art, Aereth could only hope that his comrades would, at least until he could move again, take care of the two elite mobs...

Before as she regained the ability to move freely and try to wash the shame of missing, the rest of the group already dispatched the two remaining wraiths. "Good wo..." she was about to say when one of them targeted the late comer before exploding into polygons as a result of his weapon. The rest of them performed great and the fact that they received only one hit until now was proof of their hard work. But it seemed that they couldn't catch a break within these tunnels as not even moments after the defeat of the two, another pair of ghostly figures entered their limited field of view. These ones however wielded spears and had a overall more defined appearance to them, wearing body armor and having skulls dangling from their hip. Most likely as means to intimidate their opponents.

As a fellow spear wielder, the blonde slightly wondered if she should get a more menacing appearance but quickly discarded the thought as she prepared to charge one of them. In seconds she was in front of it and ferociously started thrusting her spear which once again, gained a dark crimson glow to it. After finishing her sword art, like before, the mob before her still remained standing with but a slither of health. "I don't remember these places being so busy... or the mobs so resilient, when I first came here. " she commented with a frown.

Domarus watched as Birdie stepped forward, charging and releasing a sword art to finish off one of the enemies.  Aereth came immediately afterward and was successful in destroying the last one.  However before anything else could occur, another two monsters appeared, both with a form of armor and long two handed spears.  It would appear that their armor was meant for intimidation.  At the same time however, it did not seem as though any of the group would be intimidated by them, save for perhaps Birdie.  He noted that Ariel was going to compliment them before the monsters had appeared.  The fact that she was impressed with their work, or at the very least didn't see them as weaklings was decent at best.  Domarus would be looking to becoming strong enough to the point where the front lines would need him, so much so that they would overlook any minor deeds that may not have been the best.  As of yet there were none whatsoever.  Which was why he needed to get strong fast enough and in time to keep such events from occurring.

Domarus launched once again, using his charge skill, and released Catapult Explosion on the two, destroying one completely, and dealing two hundred and twenty four points of damage to the other.  After his sword art was completed the monster tried to retaliate but Domarus, as usual, was too fast for the creature, despite having heavy armor.  It thrust it's spear at him but he simply twisted his body out of it's way and grabbed the creature at the same time, swinging it overhead and slamming it into the ground before launching himself back in order to give Birdie room to fight.  Keres waited nearby, smiling the entire time as if she was watching her master having a friendly conversation with friends and allies.  She had chosen not to invest skill points in combat, however she had practiced evasive skills in this game, and had worked on her strength stats, so that she wasn't helpless.  She couldn't deal damage, but neither could she be hit.  It also went along with her desire to mess with other's emotions.  If any more monsters appeared however, Domarus wouldn't have any more energy available to use a sword art.

Though appearances suggested otherwise, the fencer wasn't so easily spooked by ghostly beings. Smaller insectoids, serpentines and hellish beasts were among the worst of her fears though few-to-none of those things would be able to spawn; Only the uncertainty of what might lie in the dark had made her feel uneasy.

The bluenette watched Ariel and Domarus strike the new Wraiths, leaving just over half a mob standing. As the axe-wielder backed away to set Birdie up for an attack, she nodded in thanks and leapt forwards with her sword hand at the ready. Judging by the mob's health, two top-tier Sword Arts would be enough to finish it off and following that logic, a stream of light swallowed her weapon whole as she initiated her strongest attack. Thanks to Domarus' setup and with help from the aim assist system, she struck the mob with pinpoint precision and concluded with a powerful thrust & a burst of light, emerging a short distance from the mob as the Sword Art's VFX finally died down.

All attacks went well and the group quickly dispatched one of the two elite mobs in their first attack rotation. Unfortunately, the second one survived and now closed in towards Domarus. It was an easy decision to attack the redhead. No energy, which usually resulted in not much resistance when attacking player that were out of energy. And this time it was no different. The elite wraith closed in at amazing speeds and thrust it's spear through Domarus' armor.

Immediately Aereth tried to retaliate with his strongest sword art the <All Might>. The mob quicky moved to the side and avoided the attack without trouble before creating some distance between it and the group of players. "We need to take it down, and rest a little bit from there on..." Aereth thought while recovering from his missed attack. Only some more hits and the mob would be dead for good.

Even after recovering from the post-movement penalty, the blonde didn't engage immediately as she observed how the others were doing. Her sight was especially drawn by the performance of their team's rapier user, more specifically the 14 hit combo. Ever since switching weapon clases she had missed the feeling of using the rapier's sword arts despite still owning several rapier type items. Her sight was captured by the flashy effect and acrobatics that the sword art involved, so she found herself staring while bracing her own weapon in a tighter grip than it was necessary. Along with the mob's death, the blonde's focus switched to the remaining mob. However she would be too late to notice it going for the obscure clad knight. His HP bar dipped a bit after that shot and alongside his almost depleted energy bar, seemed like Aereth's statement of 'we' was directed more so towards Domarus. Regardless, the blonde would charge again in the fight and try to ferociously put to an end the remaining foe's life.

After being within striking range of the wraith, Ariel vertically spun her tall weapon in order to gain momentum, then released a powerful downwards swing meant to break its guard and stun it. Unfortunately her efforts were negated as the the spearhead slammed against the ground with full force, the wraith evading to the side. But the the sword art however wouldn't end there as Ariel's body spun next with inhuman speed, bringing the spearhead into a semi rising helix as it was being aimed straight for the mob's right jaw. This too was evaded as her opponent ducked, the spearhead slightly scraping against one of its crown tips. "Aw C'mon!" shouted the blonde in frustration as she witnessed this, unable to move as the post sword art penalty kicked in.

Domarus had watched from this point forth as Birdie struck at one of the wraiths, finishing it off and removing it as a threat.  As he straightened himself and began to make more room for the group, he saw Aereth's attack fail.  He missed.  The wraith was focused on Domarus who dealt the damage, and charged at him.  Domarus attempted to dodge but the wraith got lucky.  Really, lucky.  The blade pierced his armor, avoiding the thorns and thus landing a critical hit.  His red visor flashed dangerously at the mob.  He was interrupted of course, as it was Ariel's turn in the fight.  Although her efforts were impressive, moving faster than any human could ever dream of doing, the monster had the system on it's side and evaded her.  With that exit out of this, he didn't have the energy to deal damage, but he could get this stupid mob off of him.  He grabbed the spear with one hand and pushed it out, not even struggling agains the mob either.  He grabbed the monster's throat and launched him back into the center between the four players.  He watched his health remain where it was.  He had lost less than one hundred health, which was a good thing.  Most dps players couldn't say that themselves.  Once Domarus had maximized his damage output, he was certainly going to be collecting both battle healing and heavy armor skills.

Keres continued to watch from a distance.  She knew that if Domarus had the energy, that monster wouldn't be standing here by it's lonesome.  It would have joined it's friend in death.  She could technically fight, but her damage output was literally one point of damage maximum.  No sword arts.  Just light armor, battle healing, searching and a profession.  And yet, if push came to shove, her acrobatics skills from the real world were amplified greatly here, making her nearly impossible to hit.  For her that was better than any weapon skill the game could give her.  Because being impossible to hit could infuriate some people, and that was one of the things she lived for.  And if the system was going to tear her love and addiction for pain away from her, she may as well do the next best thing right?

No action taken.  Recovering energy

"Igotit!" The sapphire fencer gustily assured as she kicked into fifth gear from zero, bounding through the darkness towards the last-standing <<Wraith>>. The dim lighting instilled uncertainty in her actions but she wouldn't back down, and the girl's cautious eyes remained fixed on the group's astral assailant. Light manifested around her rapier as she moved into a ready position, respiring a steady breath as energy swirled around the length of her blade; To the untrained eye (and for only a second), it looked as if she'd grown comfortable with her actions amidst the murky darkness-

and then she tripped.

Slam, "oof," sliiiide, "oww..."

The light which shone so brilliantly was no more than a fizzle at the tip of her rapier, extinguishing with a pathetic hum. The bluenette lied helpless on the floor, a low groan escaping her throat. In that moment, whatever scraps of pride the girl maintained were utterly torn to shreds - she dared not reveal her devastated face to the others. I... don't got it.

Finally. The last mob was slain and hopefully, they would get some time to breathe now. They needed to get Domarus back up to full energy before they could dig deeper into the dungeon.

After Birdie's question, the brunette glanced towards his energy bar and replied. "I'm also still quite OK for now, but I'd also like to refill everything of my lost energy before we continue to go deeper into the dungeon. I just hope that we find that field boss really quickly." he said with a sigh. Even though Material Arts was by far not such an energy hole than the area of effect sword arts of Domarus, they still had a considerable cost to use. Shrugging he turned towards Ariel. "How's it going for the dangerous beauty so far?" he asked with a grin on his face, eager to see what reaction he would get out of the front liner.
