[PP-F1] <<The Second Lesson>> Clash of Personality

Recommended Posts

'Alright, come on, it can't be that bad.' Telrenya thought to herself as she paced back and forth. The woman had been standing outside of Lyle Tealeaf's blacksmith shop for a few minutes now, and at least a couple of other players had already cast strange looks her way as they passed by. 'How hard can a solo quest be? You just go in there, accept the quest, and do it. Easy!' With how she was acting, it wasn't hard to believe that Telrenya had gotten the few levels that she had without embarking on a single quest by herself. The blonde continued to try to work up the courage to enter the shop, pacing back and forth on the side of the street beside the shop's doors. Oblivious to her surroundings, the woman got much too close to a corner without paying any attention to who or what might be on the other side. Without warning, Telrenya collided with another player, stumbling to the side as she struggled to keep herself from falling over with the impact. "Ah! S-sorry!" She exclaimed once she had realized the situation before her. The woman's brown eyes fell upon the long, bright red hair that Embers sported, captivated for a single moment by its vibrance before she looked the woman in the eyes, a dark shade of pink creeping to the surface of her cheeks.

The second quest, another staple of beginners. It was on her 'to-do' list and the girl had put it off for too long. It was one of the safest ways to level up, and while she loathed the levelling system, she had to bend to it. Until it served her of course. Everything would eventually. Lost in her mind with a dark grin of ruling this pathetic world and hitting a corner, she ran straight into someone. Unprepared for the collision, she hit the ground with a 'thud'. Swearing violently, she looked up at the one responsible. Another girl with blonde hair and, green eyes? She couldn't tell from this distance. She brushed her burning hair out of her eyes, which appeared a dull amber colour. But within them, Telrenya would see the same as everyone else. The spark of wild emotions, threatening to ignite at any moment.

"Just watch it" She replied, dragging herself up to her feet and stretching out. She took a long proper look at the person she ran into. They looked low leveled, just like her. Meaning surely there was one conclusion. They were here to see Tealeaf. A snicker escaped her throat at the sheer stupidity of the name. She Didn't offer the other girl a hand up, after all, they didn't need help up right? No damage, no pain, no worry.

"You were too see Tealeaf too eh? What a stupid name, even for an NPCShe remarked casually leaning on the blacksmith, before realizing something and smirking a dark smirk "If you are, wanna join up? Be a hella-more interesting doing it with someone than alone, whatever the hell is needed from us. Whatcha-say Blondie?"

Telrenya froze up like a gazelle standing before a cheetah. She felt the urge to apologize again and hide welling up inside of her before the woman in front of her snickered. 'Huh?' Now she was simply confused. The player had taken a casual stance, changing the topic to the building they both stood outside of and the quest that the NPC inside would offer them. Telrenya blinked at Embers' proposal. "O-oh, uhm," Was she being friendly? If so, she had an interesting way of addressing people. Or was there something else going on that she was simply too naive to understand? She averted her gaze, unable to look the woman in her sharp amber eyes.

"Sure, uhh... I didn't really want to go alone, so..." She had nothing else prepared to say, and so her sentence trailed off into silence. 'Oh God, why am I so awkward, this is terrible!' She mentally scolded herself. 'I don't want to make her mad... I already knocked her over and now I'm stammering at her like an idiot.

Embers watched the blonde girl intensely, or it appeared that way with the ignition within her eyes. In reality, she was simple curious. These quests themselves weren't too difficult, after all, they were basically the 'tutorial' in any other game. So completing them alone was easy to do, albeit boring if you were alone. While she was certain she could do the quest alone, why not have someone to chat with while she did it. The girl, as she accepted the offer, seemed to...Timid! Was she afraid because they'd ran into eachother, was that it? It was her only guess, and left her somewhat frustrated. Yes, it was annoying, but neither of them were injured so who cares.

"Come on then" Embers said confidently and loudly, tilting her head in a motion that said 'come along'. The girl herself stood up away from the wal she'd been leaning on, and was about to head into the blacksmith to find out whatever this quest intailed, when she paused and turned to face the other girl "Oh, forgot to ask your name again huh? It's Embers" She said introducing herself

Embers had taken the lead and urged her along, but not before stopping to give Telrenya her name. "Oh, I'm Telrenya." She answered simply. As if she had forgotten to do so a moment early, the woman gave a small, quick bow to the tall redhead before trotting along to follow her into the smithy.

A heavy hammer striking hot metal was the first sound to reach their ears. Lyle stood, leaned over an anvil as he worked on what looked like it would become another one of the basic weapons that lined the walls of his shop. When the door had been pushed open, the man looked over his shoulder and spoke up with a gruff voice. "So, you've finally returned!" He let out a low, rumbling chuckle with his words. It wasn't clear if the NPC was addressing one or both of the players, but he continued with his scripted dialogue before they had the chance to get a word in. "Ready to help me out with those boar tusks, are you? Remember, I'll make it worth your while with a free piece of equipment. One for each if 'ya each get me a fair share." He briefly explained the quest objective. When the man fell silent, he went back to hammering away at his work as a small dialogue window appeared before either of the women, prompting to accept or decline the quest. Without much thought, Telrenya lifted her hand and pressed the blue circle to accept. "Killing boars, huh..." She mumbled in a small voice. Her eyes naturally trailed over to Embers, who she was now fully considering the leader between them. Curiosity got the better of her, and she quickly began to wonder what kind of skills and weapon she would see the woman using in combat.

Telrenya huh? So that was blondies name. Hopefully she'd remember it, after all, Blondie was such a boring generic nickname and she hoped she wouldn't use it for her. Still, another mental battle for another time. She lead them into the blacksmith, and had to fight the urge to snicker at the sheer stupidity of his name. TEALEAF! Oh what a stupid name, next thing she'd know, his brother was called 'Coffiebean' or something just as stupid.

The NPC explained the task, the murder of at least 3 boars where they needed to take the tusks. It didn't sound too hard, assuming the boars were weak. They had to be right, after all, this was a beginners quest. It wasn't designed to kill them, simple to challenge them. She glanced at the weapon on her back, her large Two-Handed Battle Axe. She did allow herself to wonder about her friend, what weapon she had. What skill she'd put in it. The girl herself seem to, soft, like if you ran into her hard enough she'd shatter like glass. Shame really, maybe she had a spine, maybe she had to grow it. Only one way to find out.

Embers accepted the quest, and kicked open the door before her snickering got the better of her, and the laughter erupted out of her "Oh god-damn it! haha, Blood Tealeaf! Ohh what a stupid last name!" It took her many moments to catch her breath, and she threw a lazy glance over at Telrenya as if to confirm if the girl was following her.

It wasn't until Telrenya followed after Embers and they left the shop that she caught sight of the weapon sheathed at her back. Befitting of her height, the red-head sported a broad axe with a long handle. The weapon was certainly intimidating, but also somehow fitting. She didn't have time to dwell on the item for long before her teammate's sudden laughter gave her a small start. She exclaimed the NPC's name, and Telrenya finally put two and two together to understand what had caused the woman to burst with laughter. She hadn't really given much thought to NPC names. Most of them were of a generic fantasy-sort, or even just plain names. 'Lyle' on its own was pretty forgetful, she thought. But the name 'Tealeaf' did seem a bit funny, and least for a man of his stature and profession. Telrenya found herself chuckling a bit as she thought the name was more befitting of the alchemist she had encountered from the first in the quest chain.

Coincidentally, she met Ember's gaze as the fiery woman glanced over her shoulder. Telrenya immediately tensed, thinking for a split second that she had done something wrong, but the lazy expression in the woman's face allowed her to relax. It was impossible for Telrenya to explain why she was feeling on-edge around Embers. Perhaps her aggressive attitude was reminiscent of those who weren't afraid to step all over her in the real world. Still, Embers showed no signs of ill will towards her--at least not yet--and so, Telrenya did her best to convince herself that she had nothing to worry about.

Telrenya was still with her eh? If she was entirely honest with herself, she was somewhat surprised. The girl seemed like a nervous system, so she had expected, like many times before in the real world, for this kinda gal to be intimidated by her and sorta vanish when she wasn't looking. It's what happened often enough that she was used to it. But not bothered. She understood that some people just didn't burn as brightly as her, and they were the ones that just couldn't handle the flame. Was it fear the other girl held towards her, or something else? It was moments like this that she wished she was smarter, then maybe she'd be able to figure it out. But, no such luck.

The red-haired girl started walking out towards the plains, where she knew those boar things would spawn, only to die at her hands soon. She threw, yet another, lazy look over her shoulder towards the blonde girl. Was she still so afraid of something? "Oi Tel, you all good? Somethin' bothering ya?" She asked. She couldn't stand it when people were like this, little damn snowflakes. If she had to drag this girl outta her shell, kicking and screaming, she'd do it. That was what you paid when you played with Fire, when you let Embers in.

It hadn't taken them long to reach the edge of the city and set out of the safe zone. Boars littered the plains before them, some looking stronger than others. She trailed her gaze from one end of the area to the other, seeing nothing out of the ordinary that would disrupt their questing. She perked up when she was addressed, looking over to Embers with a look of slight bewilderment. It didn't last long, however, was soon replaced with a small smile at her teammate's choice of words. She seemed a bit concerned, which brought a sense of relief after getting a taste of her more rough demeanor.

"She is friendly, of course." The woman mentally reassured herself. She realized that Embers had asked her a question and expected a response, and so she gave a small wave of her hand as if to dismiss the thought. "Oh no, I'm fine!" She held her smile and wrapped her right hand around the hilt of her rapier, pausing a moment before drawing the blade. "Alright, shall we?"

The girls finally reached the open plains, where there sat many boars. Embers had to assume that they were all targets, meaning she just had to hack enough of them dead before she got what she needed right? She grabbed the weapon on her back, and smirked. Of course, that's when she heard the other girl finally speak up. She said that she was fine, although, Embers did find her too much of a snowflake. Oh well, there was time to save her yet!

"Well Tel, something tells me we've got plenty of boars to kill" She said, a smile at the prospect of a fight. That's when she Finally spotted the weapon of the other girl. A...Rapier?! She shouldn't have been surprised if she was entirely honest with herself though. It seemed like her sorta weapon.

The girl lifted the Battle Axe up with both hands, stared at the Boar in question. And charged right at it. As she charged in, her weapon glowed and she spun, swinging her weapon in a wide arch at the Boar Pup. The blow connected, as her Sword Art, Whirlwind, hit its mark and the boar exploded. The girl let out an all-mighty yell of victory, and even spun around. She was so elated that she'd killed the boar in 1 hit, she'd missed that she had failed to recover any tusks for the quest.

Telrenya decided to wait until the redhead had initiated combat in order to pick a fight of her own. Embers seemed more than eager to do so, charging directly at a lone boar and unleashing a single swing of her mighty axe to cut through the creature. Telrenya blinked just before the monster burst into shards of light. She had killed it in a single strike. The blonde felt herself swallow, now beginning to wonder about trivial pieces of information such as Embers' level, equipment, and so on. Despite her nerves, Telrenya took in a sharp breath through her nose to puff out her chest, setting her sights on a Boar Pup of her own.

The woman raised her weapon, holding steady a moment before running towards the beast. The pup perked up when she drew close, acknowledging her presence and dragging its front hoof across the ground beneath it. Telrenya lunged forward once she was within range, extended her arm out along with her weapon in an attempt to stab the creature head-on. The boar, however, reared up in order to leave its body just beyond her reach.

After successfully slaying her first boar, the girl was somewhat let down that it hadn't dropped one of the tusks. Still, the fact she could wipe out the monsters in a single swipe meant this quest, for her, would be rather simple. Of course, that was for her. She watched her ally engage on her own boar, and fail to land a blow. She looked at Telrenya, and wondered if she should offer help. But opted against it. The first being that the Boar had also failed to land a blow, additionally the girl seemed to have some sorta shield to protect her. While she knew she didn't know what the shield did, it was better than what she herself had.

"Havin' fun over there?" She called out as she eyed up another boar, and grinned. She charged forwards once again, and as history repeated itself, channeled the Sword Art 'Whirlwind' once again. However, it played out differently this time. The Boar ducked under her swing, causing the girl to miss. And due to the large nature of her weapon, she was unable block the little boar from running into her. She swore violently. "You little Crap! How dare you hurt me!" She yelled at the monster she had been trying to kill in a single blow.

Telrenya's jaw clenched as she lunged at the boar once again. The player and monster had been dodging around each other, and neither one had managed to land a blow on the other. Telrenya let a huff of air with her bottom jaw slightly extended, blowing at her bangs in exasperation. She stiffened up when the redhead called out to her, a pink highlight displaying on her cheeks with embarrassment. True, she was frustrated with her low accuracy, and wasn't sure how much of a factor basic skill and coordination played. Either way, the blame rested with her somewhere in her mind.

She blinked, looking over as the wide sweeping motion of Embers' axe caught her eye for a brief moment. She was amazed with the size and power of the weapon the woman wielded, but as the scene quickly played out Telrenya failed to hold in a giggle. Listening to Embers yelling at the little boar for getting a hit in on her was just too funny.

The Anger rolled off Embers, all of it directed at the Boar Pup that just stared at her with angry red eyes. It was a stand-off, sorta. Except one was a wild animal, the other was a tall female wielding a Two-Handed Battle Axe with the look of murder on her face. She let out another yell, her weapon lighting up as she used Whirlwind yet again, hoping to crush the boar before regenerting her energy. Of course, that plan relied on her landing the blow. A task she failed as the shockwave of her attack crashes into the ground. The boar attempted to strike her, but the girl simply deflected with her large weapon.

"You're a damn boar! How the hell can i NOT kill you!" She yelled at the monster, loudly. It was almost as if she sounded offended it hadn't died to her, Which from any stand point, would be dumb. How could she get angry at someone not dying when she wanted it too. But despite that, she huffed angrily.

"Ha!" Telrenya let out a tiny exclamation as she lunged forward yet again. Her thin blade sunk into the boar's shoulder, causing the small monster to squeal as its HP bar dropped. The creature shattered once its health reached zero, and Telrenya straightened back up and moved her heels together as she let out a small sigh of relief. 'Looks like I didn't get anything from that one.' She thought with a frown.

Pulling her from her thoughts, a loud thud caused the woman to look over to her party member with a start. Embers' axe had crashed into the ground after narrowly missing its target, and Telrenya gave a small, nervous chuckle under her breath as the redhead seemed to become even more frustrated with her opponent. Telrenya tightened her grip on her rapier, not wanting to spend much time distracted with the other girl's fight. She turned back out to the fields, scanning for the next closest boar pup to go after.

Embers was getting angry at the stupid boar that simply refused to die. She paced in front of the monster as she plotted her next move, and opted to simply repeat history. She knew her Sword Art, Whirlwind, had the damage to kill the boar in a single blow. Whirlwind was fantastic, as it did its damage twice over and, even armed with the starter Battle-Axe, it was enough to wipe it out. Of course, her issue was a lack of being able to hit it. She huffed as she heard Telrenya yell? She looked over and saw the blonde girl being successful in killing the boar, and Embers grinned. There it was, finally that girl was growing some damn backbone!

"Nice shot T!" She yelled out to her party member, right as the boar struck her in the knee. Of course, angry it had WAITED until she looked away, Embers charged in and, once again, used Whirlwind. But this time, the blow connected and the Boar Pup exploded. "Hah! That's what you get! Attacking me when i'm talkin' to someone, talk about rude!" She yelled at what was now a dead line of coding. And a pop-up screen that said she'd recovered a Boar tusk. It took her several moments to remember that was why she was out here in the first place, and accepted the loot. One down, two more to go.

Telrenya felt a tiny surge of confidence at Embers' calling out to her. The blonde had set her sights on another Boar Pup and held her rapier and shield at the ready. An odd combination of items, Telrenya wouldn't even be the wiser. Her knowledge of nearly every aspect she had encountered in this game thus far, from combat to crafting, was lacking. She was only lucky that the combination of starter quests and helpful players have done well to guide her away from the worst choices.

Telrenya lunged forward to try and run her blade through the creature just as she had the last. It surprised her, ducking under her weapon and squealing as it scrambled towards her. The woman's shield arm was too far out to the side, and she didn't react quickly enough to block the pup's counterattack. Its tusks scraped across her leg, creating two thin red gashes over her boots. She winced slightly, more in habitual reaction than anything else, and took a step and a half back with her shield held up to guard against the creature.

After killing her target and ensuring she had indeed been rewarded for murdering the boar, the girl checked her energy. It was, well, out. She knew she could keep fighting, however, it was less than ideal. She'd want to have the energy to use her Sword Arts, so while there were plenty of boars to attack, she actually moved her weapon onto her back and allowed herself to recover. Back in the real world, do that in a fight and you're screwed, but in a video game, well, it wouldn't kill her.

With the break, she looked over at Blondie. She was engaged with a boar, and they seemed to be pacing around eachother. What caught her eyes most, however, was the shield. Fear Eater. Although the name was beyond the girl, what she found most interesting was that it just, didn't look like her piece. It almost looked like something she herself would have, over some stary-eyed girl. Was it a piece of loot, or did this girl have a darker side? She grinned. If Telrenya had a darker side to her, ohh what fun this would be.

With another swift slice of her rapier, her second boar was finally felled and Telrenya was rewarded with a small dialogue window displaying an icon of a single boar tusk. A wide smile stretched across her face, pleased with her first drop of the quest item. Telrenya gave a glance over to Embers, who seemed to be observing her as the monster had been shattered. She retained a tiny smile as she tried to make light conversation with the redhead. "Got one! How's it going for you?" She expected the axe-wielder would finish the task before her, and as the thought crossed her mind she found herself silently wishing for good luck. The last thing she wanted to do was keep her party member waiting while she continue to grind for the items she needed. Readying her weapon, the woman took a moment to seek out a new target among the mess of boars that littered the first floor's fields.

The red haired girl grinned widely at Telrenya as the girl managed to kill the boar, and even grabbed a Tusk. They both had one each, and it was a 'race', and one she didn't want to lost. She spun the axe in her hands, and spotted a Boat pup nearby. Her next victim, and one she'd enjoy murdering. She did pause, maybe she could hit 2 at once, after all, it would make things quicker for her no? She let out a humming noise, before realize it was probably a bad idea, just in case something welt wrong.

"Ya got one? Nice!" She exclamimed, walking up and giving Telrenya a highfive, with a large, almost happy, smile on her face. So far, it was all going perfectly well. "Looks like we're tied up, one a piece eh? First to three wins!" She grinned, the race was now alive! Part of it was to excite herself, and the other, she wanted Telrenya to grow some backbone. Maybe a friendly 'competition' was needed? After all, she wanted the girl to be excited, what was better than a competition!

With that in mind, she spun around on a foot and shot forwards, Battle-Axe raised! However, her swing with the weapon missed and smashed into the ground. The boar had moved, an action the girl hadn't expected. So she was unprepared for the it to ram into her leg, leaving marks that made the girl swear loudly at it! "You wanna go too! I'll turn you into Bacon!" She yelled at the boar....which was actually just a bunch of 1's and 0's....
