[PP-F8] An Ally in the Shadows <<Feeding The Enemy>>

Recommended Posts

Yinangi ducked, expecting it to just swoop down and strike at high speed. Vigilon landed a stunning blow on the raven, Benjamin made a fair attempt to attack, despite that he missed. Lee used a skill that probably did nothing besides get the raven's attention. Yinangi got back up, and saw that this fight was definitely taken care of. "I just gotta travel a bit more, then I'll just need to have a little mob hunting, and I should be able to show just what I can do!" She said, pounding her fists together. Dazia was happy to know Yinangi could be optimistic, but at a time like this, in the middle of a fight? Either way, it was her turn to strike. Dazia had tried to attack various enemies, but the problem was, they were never this size. Dazia attempted to attack using the Sword Art known as Quadruple Pain, but it wasn't really easy to try and strike certain areas of a small creature like a raven.

Benjamin attempted to lend a hand, but he missed the monster. Lee used a skill that must have generated hate or something, thus getting the bird's attention. He didn't know if he would be able to keep it's attention, though, but that would depend on what else happened. Dazia attempted to attack the creature herself, but she failed to land a hit. The shadow raven had gotten over it's stun, and would be attacking the players pretty soon if it wasn't defeated in time. Besides, why search for a specific creature if it finds you attacking it's own kind? That probably wouldn't end well at all. Vigilon had an idea of how he would proceed. The darkness from the fact that it was night wasn't just a problem, since he'd loaned his lucky charm to Dazia, he wouldn't get any accuracy to cancel out the debuff that the darkness caused. He landed on the ground, on his torso. "That could have gone better."

Ben had managed to secure his footing, readying himself for the next strike.  He saw Yanangi was still safely behind him, but the Shadow Raven had managed to right itself, and needed to get taken down again.  His stun attack couldn't stack any more onto the enemy, so he had to rely more on brute force.  Waiting until it came close enough, he took a few quick jabs in it's direction, managing to clip it's wings with a quick one-two punch of a sword art, taking out another chunk of it's health.  Got it again!  It should be backing off a bit now- Yanangi, just stay behind me in case it goes for another pass.  He was still a bit tired from it being so late, but at least he had managed to help out this fight somewhat.  Now they just had to hope the rest of the party could finish the darn thing off.

Lee would listen to the on goings of the party around him as Yinangi would speak about needing to train a bit more before she could contribute action toward her enemies. "That sounds like the best idea, work onward and upwards." Vigilon would aim to attack but miss his target to which Lee would then call out. "You okay over there?" He would then look over to Benjamin as he would strike at the Shadow Raven and hit it to which Lee would throw his shield arm out with a thumbs up. "Sweet." Lee would then move forward and swing his sword at the bird but as it seemed to happen with the rest of the group, the darkness and the Raven itself with the added weight of the armor, his missed as well. "Well, darn." He would look down at the end of his sword and tilt his head as he would raise it and notice that there was nothing but empty space.

(OOC: Vigilon has told me he'd calculated something incorrectly. His base damage has been corrected, and thus, so has the Shadow Raven's current HP)

Vigilon had a minor blunder when he missed, and ended up falling and landing on his torso. "Haven't faced many small enemies, have you?" However, Dazia could say the same for herself, since she hadn't faced many creatures that size either. Benjamin managed to get a good hit on it, dealing some damage. It wasn't much, but it was better than nothing. Lee made an attempt to strike the shadow raven, but he ended up missing the creature. The raven was ready to strike at last, and it knew who it would strike. Dazia headed over towards the creature again, ready to attempt another attack. The shadow raven tried to strike Lee, but missed by an inch...and ended up hitting the ground instead. It melded into shadows to recover it's senses, but when it came out of the shadow and into the air, it was struck by Dazia's Quadruple Pain. The raven was knocked back to a tree, and it was there that she saw how it all worked. The raven appeared as a splotch of pulsing black on the tree, and it returned to normal as it took flight once again. "Interesting...so that's how it works..." The others would surely take it down soon.

Lee called out to Vigilon, asking if he was okay. "Yeah, I'm alright, hardly a tingle." Benjamin managed to get a hit on the shadow raven, Lee ended up missing the creature, and Dazia managed to drop it's HP to the red. He also got to see how the whole "Meld into shadow" thing worked. "Alright, that's actually pretty cool." He gripped his sword. "Nonetheless, this one's aggressive, so now we gotta finish it." He was ready to attack with the Sword Art known as Snake Bite, and he rushed for the shadowy bird....and had a terrible stumble. "Gah!!!!" It was like a root had suddenly grown upward to trip him by grabbing his foot, or, at least, that's how it felt, along with him falling on his torso again, his sword flying out of his hand and getting stuck in a tree, and the tingling was all over his chest. "...I didn't jinx it, did I?" As he was getting up, he saw that he'd gotten his foot caught under a root. Close enough to what he felt.

With almost everyone missing their attacks today, this might take a while to wear the enemy down.  At least it was below half health by now.  Nice shot Dazia, let's set up for one more strike! he shouted as he hopped up ahead, intercepting the path of and slashing at the raven as it flew his direction, right after leaving the safety of it's shadow, and managed to land two blows dead center with his round accel sword art, sending it into another out of control tumble.  OK, nothing like a big battle in the late hours to really wake yourself up!  I'm starting to feel energized!  Now we just need one more hit on this thing, and it'll turn back into a bunch of shadows again.  Who's ready?  He then took a few steps back to make sure it didn't manage to sneak by and attack someone else if it got the chance.  That thing was fast enough that he would have to be careful.

((ooc: MIT was messed up but only by a bit, hadn't taken any damage or anything so it is kay. I fixed it.))

Lee would watch as the Shadow Raven would miss him and dive into the ground or to be more specific, into the darkness and shortly after, firing out back into the air. Though, to its dismay, it was greeted by Dazia striking it with a sword skill which would cause Lee to let out a whistle. "Nice." It would be thrust back into a tree which looked like an ink splatter which would cause Lee to burst into a laugh but he would just as quickly muffle the chuckle. It was in the midst of this chuckle that Vigilon aimed to attack but as he missed, the sword he was holding would be released and find itself in stuck into a tree which Lee would turn to look at the sword and then to Vigilon, back to the sword and then to Vigilon once more.

"Well, showed that tree who is boss." Benjamin would be the next to land a successful attack on the Raven and would aim to rally as well as wake everyone up to which Lee would pull his sword back and nod his head. "Let's see if we can do that." Lee would watch the Shadow Raven as it would move around in the air, not wanting to strike at shadows yet again. He would charge forward and raise his sword high and as he brought it down, it would spark and a line of crimson along the blade's edge and slam across the Raven and then crash into the ground. "Awesome!" Lee would then look back toward the group. "Well, that should be that."

Vigilon screwed up badly. His foot got caught under a root, and his sword flew out and got stuck in the tree. "I'd agree with him. I don't think that oak will be terrorizing anything again." Benjamin made his own attempt to attack the raven, and succeeded at dealing some damage. Lee would then follow with his own attack, and then the shadow raven was doomed. However, that didn't stop it from wanting to attack before it died. The Shadow Raven flew straight towards Lee, and melded into shadow halfway. Thus, when it propelled itself towards Lee, it would go straight through him, but not without dealing a single point of damage, and receiving thorns damage. Once it had gone through Lee, it fell down, actually crashed onto the ground this time, and shattered. "Well, I guess that's that." Dazia sheathed her weapon, and she would wonder, where would the next shadow raven be hiding? Most likely, any that saw the fight would be more likely to become hostile, so she began to continue along the path in the forest.

(OOC: lol)

Vigilon got up, hearing Lee and Yinangi comment on his little mishap. "Very funny." Benjamin and Lee managed to deal some damage to the shadow raven, before it basically committed a suicide attack, due to either the thorns, or because it was going to die anyway. It semi-melded into shadow during it's attack, but when it came out, it's HP had depleted to zero, and the monster fell down normally and crashed on the ground before shattering. He remembered Benjamin saying that it would take a little more, and it would be shadows again. "Well, by the looks of it, the whole shadow thing is merely something it does. It isn't shadows itself, but it can become them...it's pretty cool when you think about it, actually." Dazia began to move on towards a different part of the area, and Vigilon remembered, since what they were looking for was a shadow raven, any others here would be more likely to become hostile, since the party had just killed one of their kind.

Ben headed over to where Dazia was going, making sure to stay with the group as they walked.  That sure was a way to shake off the sleepiness you have.  I suppose the next plan would be to go find another, hopefully friendlier, Raven to tame?  he asked, checking everyone's health bars to make sure they were still doing fine.  It wasn't too bad of a battle- or at least not a dangerous one.  Hopefully that was the only fight that they had to deal with tonight.  So, unless we want to go slay some more of those vicious oak trees that have been terrorizing the area, I guess that means we are going to be regrouping elsewhere.  he joked, hoping to lighten the mood a bit as they went.  Dazia seemed a bit disappointed at what had happened with how the first taming attempt had gone, and it wouldn't be good for the next attempt if she went in angry.

{{OOC: HA! That was too perfect.}}

Lee would let out a quick and singular 'Ha' laugh as Yinangi would make a comment on his earlier one which he couldn't keep his composure. Lee would turn to see the Raven wasn't about to give itself up so easily though. It lunged at Lee and as he rose his shield, nothing happened for a moment and just as he let it lower, the bird would shoot through him and come out the other side to which he would take a tick of damage and then spin around and point his sword at the area where the bird died. "Not cool yo! Not cool! That is some ghostly type stuff that I ain't awesome with." Lee would put away his sword and then look down at his chest as well as feel it over to see if there were any holes or marks and he would then try and look behind himself at his back, turning and twisting. "Nothing is wrong with my back, right? No dark marks or death streaks or foul portals breaching from unwanted places?" Everyone had basically decided on what everyone else had already planned on, continuing till the elusive Raven was captured.

Dazia noticed how Vigilon wasn't too happy about his screw-up, Benjamin was now fully awake, and Lee clearly didn't like how Shadow Ravens happen to attack. He asked if there was anything on his back that was strange or undesirable. Dazia looked over, and there didn't seem to be anything there. She decided to say something before Yinangi could get any ideas. "There doesn't seem to be anything unusual at all." She was ready to continue her search. She looked around the area of the forest she had entered, hoping to find another Shadow Raven. a streak of black dashed by her vision, and she looked and saw a raven on a branch, looking at Dazia curiously. After looking at it, taking a visual examination in the process, she noticed it was merely a common raven. She still decided to feed it anyway. When she had gained it's trust, she could only hope that this common animal could understand enough to be of possible assistance. "I'm looking for a variation of your kind. If you know of, or know a place to find a Shadow Raven, perhaps you could lend some assistance in some way?" It seemed to be willing to lead Dazia in a certain direction. She could only hope that this works...

(OOC: Yes! More light points for Dazia!)

Benjamin was ready for whatever came next, and he decided to add to the joke a little, too. "Well, I don't see any vicious-looking oak trees around, but I'm sure there's another shadow raven around somewhere in this forest." Lee didn't exactly like how the shadow raven attacked him. He asked if there was anything wrong with or undesirable on his back. "Yup. No marks, no streaks, no portals, although I don't see how the portal thing would work." The group then continued on, walking into a different area of the forest, and Dazia soon encountered a typical raven, deciding to tame it anyway, and try to get some help from it concerning the search. Vigilon expected Dazia to release it, or, worst case scenario, kill it, but this was a nice change of pace. "How kind of you, Dazia. Letting the not-so-special raven tag along until the shadow raven is found."

Wait we can talk to the animals here?  Or is it just ones we're trying to make into familiars?  Because that would be really cool to be able to talk to mine... Ben was mostly talking to himself, as he had a bad habit of doing.  He was really interested in how the game's systems worked, and always looking for more tricks to add up his sleeve.  Figuring out how to get the forest creatures to tell him stuff would be extremely helpful.  Maybe they could even tell me where the most vicious trees in the forest are.  Or more seriously he thought, where to find the best gathering spots in the forest.  That would truly help him get a leg up on crafting.  He continued to help search the woods as he thought, not really sure the best way to get the attention of a Shadow Raven.  Maybe he would just wander out here and wait for another one to attack them- they seemed to be very territorial creatures.

Lee would take in a deep breath and would wipe the imaginary sweat from his brow as Dazia and Vigilon both would assure him that there was no indication of the aftermath on him. He would then turn to Vigilon and reply. "Hey, you never know in games. Slappin a portal on an unsuspecting adventurer only for it to release some monster later on when everyone is unawares. That is the shi* that I don't like." Lee would follow the group as they continued the venture for the would-be familiar and another streak would appear though this time, it didn't attack them. Lee would lower his hand from his weapon as it seemed to be just a normal raven. Dazia would simply conversate with the creature and in the end, it would flap off in a direction that the party seemed to follow. "Cool, following birds. Unexpected but not unwanted." Benjamin would comment on the fact that talking to non-familiar animals was something he had not tried prior to which Lee would chime in. "Hey, never know till you try though, take it from me, it can end just as bad though. Some creatures just have bad days twenty-four seven."

Vigilon commented on Dazia's choice of kindness, which made Dazia feel slightly better about it. Benjamin believed she was literally talking to it talking to it. "This might be hard to explain, but... you see, from what I know, most creatures in this game don't understand human speech, so in case of that, I did what I could to have a look in my eyes that could potentially send the same message. And as for making a guess as to what the raven was thinking, I looked at it's eyes and expression. How else do you find out what your familiars seem to be thinking? Vigilon, how else could you be able to communicate with your frost dragon? Clearly, you don't know what she says, and even she knows it. Thus, she has been able to master using emotion and expression to communicate with you. Do you see where I am going with this?" Yinangi was fiddling with her menu, then her face filled with shock. "Agh! I forgot something! I'll be right back!" Dazia turned to see Yinangi dashing off in the direction they came. "Y-Yinangi, wait!" But it was too late. She disappeared from view. What was it that she had forgotten?

"...What?" Vigilon said with a chuckle in response to what Lee had said. "I don't think there are monsters in this game that would leave 'egg portals' for monsters to spawn from on people's backs. Besides, wouldn't that kind of hurt if it weren't for the pain dampener?" Benjamin made an assumption of Dazia's attempt at communication that might have been successful. Lee chimed in with a comment of his own towards Benjamin's. "I guess those are the ones that always get a red cursor when they see a player." Dazia would make a detailed explanation about the communication between players and familiars/potential familiars. She even used the communication between Vigilon and Veriost as an example. "You...have a good point there. I do try to see into the expression that Veriost has to try and see what she's thinking, or trying to tell me. I dunno if she does the same with me, or if she's among the few who can understand human speech, but nevertheless, we still have a means of being able to communicate, and work together, too. ...Yeah, I see what you mean." Yinangi seemed to forget something, and she dashed off out of sight before Vigilon had a chance to rush over and escort her safely. "I hope she'll be okay..."

Yinangi, wait! Don't run off like that, it's dangerous! Ben shouted as she started running back to town.  He started to follow her, but hesitated at leaving everyone else, looking back and forth in a bit of confusion.  She'll be fine... right?  You'd have been chasing after her if she wouldn't? he asked Dazia, a bit jumpy.  He felt like he was back home dealing with his own unruly cousins.  Well, I don't have a familiar yet, so I don't really know about what it's like.  Maybe it will be more clear when I get my own, but for now I can't understand.  I've never really had to deal with animals before actually... I'm allergic in the real world.  Ben was somewhat embarrassed by this, and knew that he was missing some subtleties of the whole taming process because of his lack of experience.  He would have to watch how Dazia coaxed the familiars closely to try and find out how it would be done.

"Hey, you never know. I find all kinds of new things on the daily in Aincrad. Though I'm not entirely sure just how portals work so I'm not going to be able to say if it would actually hurt. Man, pain scaling is a bit*h to understand in this game." He would answer Vigilon and then turn his attention toward the trees, aiming to see any movement of another animal or possible fight. Lee would listen as Dazia would explain in detail of the intricacies of talking with animals in a virtual world and Vigilon would agree that there is an unspoken knowledge between them. Lee never really thought much about it himself, he just treated most things like he would a dog. Get a happy enough voice, things tend to get muddled and it was then that he got lost in his own thoughts about dogs and puppies but was broken out of this daydream as Yinangi took off, saying that she had forgotten something and that she would return. Lee would simply watch as she would disappear from view and seeing as no one else had gone after her, he figured she was well enough on her own. He would turn his attention back toward the trees and aim to find what it was they were looking for.
