All started when she was a small girl. Back then her father was one of the leading officers in the Kobe Police Department and a series of gang cruelty had started to spread around the town. Kobe had been a big city already, but the police hadn't been prepared for what had just started. Her father was leading an operation to end the gang war and so he was investigating the leaders of one of the gangs that were involved to find evidence and press charges against them. He actually was pretty successful with his investigations and soon he knew about things he better hadn't known. The gang bosses weren't happy about the police knowing about it, so they decided to use other ways of getting rid of the charges. They kidnapped Runa to press her father into stopping the investigations and dropping the charges. That was the day that Runa learned to not trust humans. The kidnapping went over smoothly as they took her from school, telling the personal that they were supposed to help Runa's Mom. Once they had the girl, they brought her some place in the mountains where she wasn't able to run away. After hours of Runa crying and being scared for her life, they finally brought her back, as her father had agreed to stop the investigation. Following this her father had to leave the Police, as he didn't want to risk his family, and as the police saw problems in him actually talking to them instead of investigating the crime. With Dad losing his job, and the traumatic memories of being kidnapped Runa soon started to lose interest in going to school. Her one year older brother noticed that she did not go to school any more, but instead went to the docks, playing at the water and learning to swear from the works around there. He wasn't happy about it, but still allowed it, as he had pity for his sister. Her Dad wasn't able to find a new job and so he started drinking, losing the contact to the family more and more. After the first year of bad life he left the family to protect them from himself and everything went to worse. They had to leave the house they had lived in to live in some kind of little flat and their mother had to work all day, so no one was there from them. Gen, her older Brother, had to do the housework and make food, but he still went to school. Runa used her days to stay at the Docks and play with a hobo she met there in her days. She learnt lot's of things about how it was to live a bad life and soon she was really down. Years later, she was helping at home and her brother made her go to school again, but that was not what she felt like. As she was at school, she wasn't able to get out of there, but she found the friends that knew how she felt, or at least she thought so. They were known as the schools thugs, but Runa liked them. Together they founded a gang, as they still were not older than 12, it wasn't to much, but they trained fighting in the streets, sprayed graffiti and stole things they liked. When they became a little older they really started becoming a gang, hurting people, fighting with knives and living on the streets, or at least they played as if they did. Everyone of them had a home he returned to after a long day, but they all loved the feeling of being a street gang. But still, even with her going around and doing all these things, her brother still helped her, and so she knew she had to do something for him. When she heard that there was a new game to be released that would allow them to go on an virtual adventure she decided that she and her brother would play this together, so she could show him her gratefulness for all he was doing for her. As she heard how expensive the game would be, and that there were just a limited amount of copies, she used the skills she had learned and on the day it was released stole it from one of the lucky ones who had gotten two copies. Later on she thought they should be really happy, as she had prevented that they were trapped in this game. Virtues: Tough Guy: Her life had thrown lots and lots of disasters at Runa, so she got used to living in bad times. Nowadays she isn't afraid of pretty much anything and will always stand up for her cause, even if it means trouble for her. If there is anything that stands in her way, she will for sure find a way to get around it, most of the times by pure brutality. A Comrades Trust: Living half her live on her own, she knows the value of a real comrade. Her brother had been the best one she had ever had, but there were others. Her friends at school were real friends to her, and she would have done nearly anything to help them. If one has earned Runas trust, she will protect him and do almost everything to help them. Her brother's Sister: Having seen, how Gen had risked his own life and even paid with it to save someone they didn't even know had shaken Runa. She had always thought he was just this nice to her, but it seemed her brother had been a real hero. To honour his memories Runa could never leave someone to die, even if she doesn't know them. Flaws: Distrust in the World: Everything that had been good in Runa's life have gone bad, so she has lost her trust in the world itself. Runa's always thinking, that whatever she will do won't end well, so she might as well not start it in the first place. It's hard for her to get enough motivation to really do something. Hard to trust: After all that has happened to her, it is hard for her to trust others. She has learnt that humans are evil when she was young, and this view on other persons hasn't changed much. If she learns to trust someone. It's like the person can trust her too, but for her to trust someone, they would have to do something really special for her. Little Imp: As she has lost the trust in the world, and thinks that everyone is evil, she has decided that she can do to them whatever she wants. This leads to her doing funny "jokes" and "tricks" to others, that most of the time aren't really funny for anyone but her, especially not for her victims. If she learns to trust someone they are more or less save from her, but that's a rare occasion. Relationships Gen: Her Brother Story Thus Far Once the Game was released she and her brother entered it and at first it was super cool. She could show her brother how much she liked him and he was able to forget all about the real world and what [censored] had happened to them, but when Kayaba told them, that they were trapped in this game, everything changed. Her brother got really angry, not really at her, but at himself for being so stupid to leave their mother alone with them being an even bigger burden then before. It took her two days to get him back to his normal self, but once she had done that, he started to flourish and they started their adventure. It seemed everything was going to be better, but then, they saw something terrible and everything was lost. They were walking around a smaller town on the first floor, when they saw four players surrounding a fifth one. When they came closer, they saw that they were attacking him, slowly killing the poor player. Gen decided that this had to be stopped, got their attention and tried to help the other player run away. He blocked their path, allowing Runa and the other player to get away, but one of the PKers managed to follow them and when they had gotten close to the town was able to reach them, killing the player they had tired to save. Gen never came back, and Runa had to learn at the monument of life, that he had died. Since then, nearly two years have gone by and Runa hasn't left the safe zone of the town of beginnings again.
