[PP-F9] No Honor Among Thieves <<Bandit Camp>> ~ COMPLETE

Recommended Posts

"Hail, traveler!" Pinball jumped. A phrase like that should be more than common in a fantasy oriented setting like this, and yet it still made the boy cringe a bit. It just wasn't what you'd expect someone to open a conversation with. Thus, the fisherman wasn't at all surprised when he found that the voice didn't come from any player, but rather from a grizzled NPC warrior. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance," the man bowed, his long, white hair covering his facial features. Hesitantly, Pinball lowered his spear, fearing the worst. He hadn't heard of NPCs attacking players like this, but Pinball wasn't exactly the optimistic type, either. He flinched when the man rose to face him. He had a long, white beard to match equally as long and pale hair. He wore what looked to Pinball to be steel plate (he couldn't tell, he was more of a leather guy), and a Two-Handed Greatsword hung at his side. There were long, red gashes lining the man's face and armor. His expression was grim, and a bit stern. "My humblest apologies, but may I hold your attention for just a moment? Bandits have occupied the best hunting grounds, and we aren't able to drive them away. This is obviously very troubling, and it prevents our young hunters from getting a shot at proving their worth. I am here to enlist your help." A small screen popped up in front of Pinball. Bandit Camp, he thought slowly. He hadn't heard about this quest. Hopefully, it didn't kill him. After a moment of hesitation, he pressed the Yes button, accepting the challenge. "Sure," Pinball nodded. "I'm on it." The warrior took a bow. "One thousand thanks, kind wanderer.

Sky groaned as he walked out onto the volcanic floor.... It was hell here, he had come onto this floor for quests like seven times in the last month. He kept coming here.... Why, he had no idea. He HATED this floor, it was SO hot. He groaned even louder, whining a little as his wolf came onto the floor also, panting loudly. She hated this floor JUST as much as he did, if not even more. He couldn't help but just... groan. He walked over towards where the bandit camp might be, he had done this before, and he had already accepted this quest a fair while ago, but he hadn't been bothered to do it, but now... Well now he felt like doing it. He was going to do it, and if he got lucky he might find some help.

"Anyone around!?" He called out, wondering if he could find anyone to accompany him on this quest.

Pinball walked through the floor aimlessly. He wasn't entirely sure where he was supposed to go, and he wasn't quite certain that the location of the camp was randomized. People were bound to be taking it at the same time, and with an encounter like that, how did the system pull it off? It was definitely not a one time event. He jumped at the sound of a voice. Pinball rushed behind a conveniently placed boulder. Sadly, he had no skill that would aid him in hiding, nor did he feel like trying his luck with the action regardless. He wasn't bothered by the heat, though the sootiness of everything was a turn off. He was raised in Florida, so he could handle high temperatures, but this... was something different altogether. He watched the man who passed for a moment, before recognizing him. "Oh! Stryder!" He pulled himself over the rock, a wide grin on his face. "Oi! It's me, Pinbob!" He hopped down, his knees buckling as he hit the ground. A small bit of his health chipped away - fall damage. "What is up, my cool-dude leader-dude?" He was forcing an extroverted appearance, as usual, though he was a bit disgruntled by the things he hadn't yet told the guild leader.

Sky was walking around, not knowing what to do, he didn't feel like doing this alone..... Though he wasn't alone, he looked down to Silver, smiling at her before quickly noticing her wimpering for a second, quickly spinning around, before hearing a voice, one that he hadn't talked to in a long time, despite the fact he was in his guild. He smiled, wondering how well it would go. He looked over at him, watching him jump down and seeing him take a little damage, but watched him walk over to him, Silver still hiding behind him, he simply smiled and patted her.

"Not much ma spear wielding amego!" He says to Pin with a little bit of a grin, glad that he had a friend to do this quest with. He didn't really like doing it alone. Then, he remembered that he hadn't met Silver yet.

"Hey Pin, meet Silver, my familiar" He said happily.

He smiled sheepishly, posing in a sort of Superman position, with his arms placed at his sides. "Oh," he said happily, noticing Stryder's wolf. "Silver." He reached out to pet the wolf, then recoiled, remembering the proud nature of Mars' Liger. He should probably ask first next time. He dismissed the thought with a wave of his hand, instead addressing Stryder. "Hey, man," he repeated, much more normally now. "I'm actually here on a quest. What are... what are you up to?" There wasn't much you could do on Floor 9. It was volcanic in nature, and the mobs that spawned here tended to be those of formidable strength - though he didn't doubt Stryder was able to handle it. "So uhh," he trailed off, patting his sides with his free hand. The Cursed weapon was practically glued to him, sad as it was. His only saving grace was the fact it could be unequipped, which is what he did next. Now free of the curse of the spear, Pinball stretched. He could count on Stryder to wallop anything that threatened him, anyways.

When Pin reached out for her, she instinctively hid behind Sky, moving away from him, obviously scared of Pin. Sky simply opened his hand, Silver nuzzling into it. Pin was acting a little more normal now, talking to him. He looked at his hand, noticing him unequipped his spear. Why, he was insanely confused. Why not just drop it and pick it up? Why get rid of it? Sky didn't bother asking yet, it was a question for a different time. He looked around, what quest could he be doing? There was a fiar few here.... But which he was doign was a complete mystery.

"I'm here doing a quest to, namely the Bandit Camp quest.. I'm trying to raise some money to afford the guild hall, but its still goign to take forever... Iv got like six thousand compared to the odd hundred and sixty we will need" He said with a defeated sign, before looking down at his gloves. He was still coming to terms with these.... The fact they absorbed what he killed gave him a little bit of a creepign sensation, but at least they would never break on him.

Pinball frowned when the wolf retreated. Aw, man. He shook it off, hoping he didn't scare the wolf too much. He turned his attention back to Stryder. "Jesus, that's a lot of col," he agreed, his hand instinctively grabbing the nape of his neck. He was trying to act normal, or at least attempt to act so weird he gets a laugh from him, so he isn't as uncomfortable when he's trying to act normal. With a small cough, he continued. "Bandit Camp? What's that?" Pinball took a second himself to piece his thoughts together. The old warrior, the quest notification that read Bandit Camp. All of these were subtle signs that made him realize: Stryder and Pinball were doing the same quest. "Oh, nevermind, yeah." He nodded, shoving his hands in his pockets. It's nice not having to hold your spear all the time. He looked up at the sky. What a dirty floor. Pinball shrugged to himself, sighing. "Uhh, I'm on that same quest. Do you wanna... take me with ya?" He shot up finger guns and a wink, taking a step back.

He was doing this as well? He hadn't really hung out with Pin much.... And from  the look of him, he was getting a lot stronger then when he had last seen him... Sky couldn't help but give Pin a bit of a grin, before shrugging himself.

"I don't see why not,  just don't slow me down" He says, being a little cocky, before looking out over the Horizon. This was a horrible floor, but the one thing he could give it credit for, was that in the distance, Volcano's looked beautiful. He looked at his familiar, Silver, who obviously didn't like the heat of this floor. He simply smiled, roughing up her coat a little before speaking to her.

"I'l be alright Silver, iv got this numskull, and you, to watch my back, alright" He said, seeing her fear. With a warming smile, she perked up, slightly, but stayed behind Sky.

He turned around, starting to walk in the direction the warrior had come from. He figured that that would be where they'd find the bandits. He turned around, walking backwards, his two-handed spear held loosely in one hand. He realized that Stryder hadn't seen him since he'd been using a dagger. He turned around with a grin. He'd be surprised with how stronger he had gotten, surely. Pinball whirled around with a start. "Oh!" Pinball exclaimed, raising his spear over his head. "You haven't seen this!" He looked from side to side, trying to find something... he settled on a lump of blackened rock. "Check it out, nerd," he said, jabbing the rock much like he'd jab with a pool que. The rock stayed in place, but a thin coating of ice appeared, just for a moment, before it shattered rather violently. In his head, Pinball was relieved. It was tricky about when it activated, and he was pretty glad that it had worked on his first try. Still, he spun with a flourish, raising his spear over his head in a dramatic pose. "Voila!" He turned to Stryder, his head held low, hair covering his eyes. With one hand he swept the hair away. "My masterpiece.

Sky was insanely surprised when he saw Pinballs spear, having remembered him as using a dagger last time they met, but since hten he must have given up on that. He didn't think twice about it, until he saw the rock get covered in a thin sheet of ice. That spear had a unique enhancement on it! He was honestly dumbfounded, he must have gotten it at an event, like he had gotten his gloves. He wondered what else it could have.

"Nice one Pin! Its nice to see you having gotten something powerful, i can tell it will do good for ya!" He says, before hearing Silver bark.... But it was to late by that moment.

A bandit snuck up on him, slashing his back. Sky didn't have time to move, the blade cutting into him taking a chunk out of his HP. The rest werent so lucky. One came in right afterwards, and with a quick spin and a kick he smacked him across the head, his glowing orange foot instantly turning the bandit to dust, and the other one who had hit him getting caught by the foot, but managed to survive. A second bandit came in, attempting to slash him, Though Sky quickly put up a wrist, his armor deflecting the hit, and as the last one attacked him he grabbed the blade, catching it with his cursed gloves.

"Your all gunna die now...."

Pinball watched in awe as Stryder leapt into the fray, no hesitation on the man's face. "Wowza," he mumbled, readying his spear. He flinched as a bandit managed to strike Stryder. Pinball followed Stryder's example. "Watch out!" Pinball, without thinking, activated Trip Expand, his highest available Sword Art. He leapt from bandit to bandit, his spear leaving red gashes on each enemy he hit -- except one. One of the bandits, the very one Stryder had failed to hit, managed to roll out of the way. Pinball continued his Sword Art, though, not letting it get to him. The last bandit he struck was frozen solid, ice creeping up the criminal's legs. The monster struggled to pull free, to no avail. Pinball took a step behind Stryder, his spear leveled. "These guys aren't all that, are they?" Pinball looked at the last two that they faced. One frozen, with a little under half health left, and the other, at full health, scowling at the two players, its blade raised. "Wait." Pinball slapped his forehead. You have Rank 5 on your spear, dumbass! Pinball kicked the ground angrily. "God damn it! I used the wrong sword art!

Sky watched as Pinball tried to kill them all, his spear flying out and tearing one of them apart, and the others getting smacked, though the one who managed to doge his attack as well, the third bandit, managed to avoid Pinball's attack as well, the  bandit acting cocky as he came in for another swing at Sky, only for a orange glowing foot to smack him in the head, outright nearly breaking him in two. A loud crack echoed as he smacked into a volcanic rock, a loud smack echoing through the air as Sky's foot smacked the foot of the frozen bandit, the ice going up his body and shattering into thousands of shards. With a grin, he bounced back, bracing for an attack, if its to come.

"Doesn't matter, just kill this one" He yells to Pin, before raising an arm over his head, ready to block any impact, that might come if Pinball misses his strike at the Bandit.

Pinball smiled ever so slightly, watching intently as Stryder dashed about, landing two solid kicks on the two bandits. One shattered in a magnificent display of ice and shards, while the other was knocked on his back, a long, red gash trailing from his torso to his chin. Stryder called out to Pinball to finish it off. The final remaining bandit leapt to its feet, one hand gripping its sword, the other rubbing its chin. Pinball rushed forward for the finale, his spear going in for a regular, conclusive jab. The bandit was faster. In a rather swift exchange, the bandit parried his spear thrust, twisting it so that the blade stabbed upwards, well away from himself. If the bandit had been able to weild a dagger in his free hand, Pinball would have found himself with a few stab wounds in his chest. Luckily, this was not the case, and instead of pushing his attack, the bandit used this oppurtunity to put some more distance between him and the two players. "Whoops.

Sky watches as Pinball tries to run it and do a basic strike, managing to miss his strike. Sky couldn't help but laugh lightly, it being a little funny when he was parried. Sky watched as the bandit attempted to dash back, then he saw it run at him. Without much effort, he turned around, grabbing the bandits arm and piercing through his chest with his fingers, the bandits face grinning as he peacefully shattered into a billion separate fragments, a big 'Quest Clear' sign appearing over them.

"That was easy, only took one hit" He said with a girn, looking at Pinball. He was wondering where he got that spear.... He used to use a dagger, but now he had what seemed to be a unique spear, only those have the Freeze buff... But where did he get it? What event... Maybe the Christmas one? Who knew, but he would find out.

With a small frown, Pinball leaned back, his spear the only thing that kept him from falling backwards. Well, that was easy enoughhe figured, tapping his side. He looked left, right, behind him, and up, but could find no other bandits in the immediate vicinity. Pinball shrugged, then took a few steps back, before slowing to a stop. They were left without anything to do. Pinball acknowledged Stryder with a nod, bit his lip, then said nothing. He wasn't quite sure what he wanted to do. He looked his spear up and down. While he had hit Rank 5 in weapon proficiency, he was terribly out of practice. Sword Arts wouldn't save him all the time, as made obvious by his brief exchange with the bandit. Stryder, by comparison, was on an entirely different level. Pinball's head tilted slightly to the side, his eyes dropping to the ground, thinking up strategies to defeat the man. First, you'd have to catch up to his level... Be within that range.. He twirled his hair absently, his eyes glazed over with his daydreaming.

Sky couldn't help but smile as he cracked his back, glad that the fight was over. It was quite tiring, but they had done it. He wanted to get off this floor now. He looked over at Pin, feeling like he was being sized up by pin. He had no idea why, but Pin seemed to be observing him very closely. He took a mental note to watch out for it in the future, before smiling and deciding to strike up a conversation.

"You have gotten a lot stronger Pinny, soon you might even be stronger than me... But good luck keeping that rival" He said with a grin, before Silver jumped on him, lapping at his face happily. He couldn't help but laugh as the wolf's tongue smothered his face, laughing his arse off as he was attacked by his familiar. He pushed her off, sitting up and pulling her into him, holding the wolf close. He loved this wolf.

"So, Stryder," Pinball began, gripping his spear tightly. He wasn't quite sure what came next, but he knew they had succesfully wiped out all of the remaining bandits. He looked from left to right, unsure whether they should part ways or talk a bit, to pass the time. AAll he knew was that though they were only here for a short amount of time, it felt more like two entire months. He wasn't sure what it was, but there was something quite terribly boring about this encounter that he couldn't put his finger on. Maybe it was Stryder himself? Or maybe it was just the floor and its general theme. Pinball didn't know, and he couldn't think of a way to push the thoughts any further. With those thoughts racing through his head, he looked to Stryder once more, and finally said, "so. Now what? I don't have many plans after this, so I think I'll just get ready to go back to my shop after this.  You have a cute wolf, by the by."

This floor is completely stupid, he hated it. It had always annoyed the absolute hell out of him. Especially recently. He seemed to be coming here daily for one stupid quest or another. He hated it, he hated being here, he was fully sick of it. Sooner or later, he was going to throw a fit, he was always calm, he only broke when someone he cared about was in danger, so to keep that, he knew he had to gtfo out of this floor. He was done with it.

"Yeah, i hate this goddamn floor. Before ya go, how about heading with me to the tavern in the main town and just getting a cold drink? Its bloody hot on the ninth floor, and i reckon a nice cold drink is just what we need after dealing with this hell" He said to Pinball "First one's on me" He says to him before starting to walk back, not fully caring if Pin comes or not. Of course, he wanted him to, he would like it, but if he choose to walk the other wya Sky wouldn't be hurt... To much.

Pinball nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it's not really that... fun of a floor." Pinball looked around once more. "For lack of a better word." He looked back to Stryder, who didn't seem to be to enjoying himself in the slightest. "Oh," Pinball said; he hadn't expected the invitation. "Y-yeah, man, that's cool." He started to walk with Stryder, jogging to keep up with the man. "You don't have to pay, you know," he said hesitantly, not wanting to have a stranger pay for his crap. "I should be offering you a drink. You killed all those bandit dudes. Plus, I am a cook. It's kind of my specialty. I have a few flavored drinks in my inventory right now, if you're really thirsty." He glanced up at the sky, which was, as per usual, dark and smoky looking. After a moment, he added, "And if you want to cool off, I reckon I could shave off some ice with my spear for ya." He kept walking, then, making sure he was heard, said, "Too hot, he says... wimp."

Wimp? Did Pin just call him a wimp? With grin, he quickly wacks pin about the back of the head, cheerfully grinning as he spoke to him, his voice sounding quite passive aggressive in his tone.

"Too hot? Never said it was to hot did i, just said it was bloody hot. Your the wimp for not even being willing to go with your guild leader to a bloody tavern for a victory celebration after a quest!" He says, grinning before dashing off while his familiar, Silver, who was still avoiding Pinball, sprinted after him, both bolting full speed towards the town tavern. While running, he saw a shimmer, believing it to be a chest, but quickly realized it was his familiar, who had over taken him. Sky quickly sped up, trying to catch up with his familiar, leaving Pinball behind unless he had the gall to catch up, which he probably didn't.
