Summary:

Back in a world of flame, humanity fought against the dragons in a great war. And in that time the humans had a great, and powerful king. The king was a great and powerful warrior, a brilliant and daring tactician, and in the eyes of many a savior. The war raged onward for many a year until the king was lost in battle his corpse never found. Humanity fought on without their brave leader, only to find that he had betrayed them. Fighting against them now, humanity never stood a chance. But that battle was over a millennia ago, and the king's name was lost to time. But rumors and rumors of rumors have hinted at his return.

Seeking Power, the blond tank stood on the cavernous floor of 21. He had been mostly putting skill points into DMG increasing components, so he could not pack a punch. In fact, he secretly was training with a new weapon. He wouldn't be showing the world that though. He hadn't even told Itzal about his Two-Handed Straight Sword. Of course, he figured once he was proficicent he would tell everyone that he hadn't focused on tanking and become more of a DPS. As of now, nobody would take him seriously and would tell him to put back on his armor and shield.

He had examined the new quests and decided it was time for another visit from his knightly friend. Macradon. The man was in Jonathan's opinion, the nicest of the Knights of the Blood Oath. He knew many despised them, but Jonathan believed it came from a sense of jealousy. The knights were all formidable in strength, and held many demonics. Jonathan himself carried a Unique Item, Maiden's Kiss, but never used it due to where his skill points were sitting at. He didn't want to give it up, because he felt that it was special and wanted to give it to the right person, at the right time.

He sent @Macradon a message, inviting him for the Betrayal of the King quest on the 21st floor.

Laying in his bed in his house, Macradon would relax as the nice ambience of the first floor would swarm around him, it was like living in the big city again, it felt like real home. He would listen at the steps of his hellhound, running around through the large house as it eagerly just waited for Macradon to go on an adventure with him so that he could burn, literally, some of his energy. The timing was perfect, as Macradon would receive a message from Morgenstern, a player from one of the frontlining guilds, a person Macradon had done quests with before. He smiled as he would write a small reply back saying that he was on his way. He would stand up, grab Belphegor’s chains, chain up the hound, go out into the foyer, take on his shoes and jacket and leave the house, locking it up after him. He would look down at his familiar, now chained well so it wouldn’t be able to run away if any of its carnal instincts would kick in. “Well then, let’s try out our new tactics” he said and would make sure his inventory had all that he needed for today. He would get up to the chosen rendezvous point with Morgenstern and wave. “Hey, I’m here now” he said with a smile, still only wearing his casual clothes, waiting for them to approach the fighting premises, as that would trigger Belphegor into a more primal nature, that would be a lot more difficult to introduce to Morgenstern than the civil greyhound that Belphegor was when just chained up like a walking dog.

As Jonathan stood on the cavernous floor and waited, his mind began to drift. He found himself lost in memory, of a time that had been downing him a lot lately. Rin shutting him and the world out with him. She just wanted it all to end, and lately he had been worried about her mental health. Would she attempt to kill herself? Throw herself off of Aincrad? He didn't know what he would do if she did that. He would be more broken than he already was. Rin was the only one for him, and he wouldn't be accepting any other hand anytime soon. He sighed, forcing himself to think happier, but before he could get there Macradon was already seen walking his way, a wave given as a friendly gesture. Jonathan returned the wave and moved forward to meet the man. "Macradon, looking sharp as always" He noticed the familiar was much different. It had been a while since their encounter, but wasn't it an owlbear or something? The creature's existence confused him. Now, it was a dog chained up and tied down to Macradon. That was also a first.

Jonathan had his own familiar, but unless it was a long drawn out battle, the creature's sheer weight and speed were really bad for just xpecting aid. He should have gotten a dragon like Itzal and be able to be more... flexible with his familiar

Belphegor looked up at its master, not too sure who this other person was. The Cerberus would continuously look back and forth between his master and the peculiar person, all with its three heads, each going in their own tempo, back and forth, back and forth. “Thanks a lot” he said with a smile, replying to Morgenstern’s Comment. “Well then, should we get going? This quest seems quite nice, and I’ll finally be able to work out with this guy” Macradon said, gesturing down to the chained three headed hound. Though normally, Belphegor would be rupturing with flames, but because of Macradon’s civil aura for the moment, the cerberus would stay non-lit and look like a normal greyhound, if it wasn’t for the three heads. On his back harness was a new sword, he hadn’t used it yet, so it was a first timer as well, he had a lot to test out now, to see if everything would work out in the end.

Paying more attention to detail, Jonathan blinked as he noticed something that should have been obvious but he looked over the detail. Macradon's familiar had... three heads? It looked much like the boss on a lower floor, and each of them seemed a little suspicious of him. He rubbed the back of his head chuckling nervously. "He.... He has three heads" he said quietly to Macradon, gaining the attention of all three at once as he spoke. He wondered if the three heads had different personalities, and how they worked as a team to get jobs done. Macradon had a Large sword on his back, one that made Jonathan wince. 'I wonder If I should tell him... Macradon is a pretty unjudging guy and is cool with just about anything.... I'll tell him after the quest. If it bothers him that im working more into a DPS field, it'll at least be after our work is done' With that he would nod and say, "Lets get outta here then" he said confidently. From what he had heard about the quest, was that they had to find and defeat a king of old that had died in a great battle against the dragons.

Macradon would nod, chortling lightly at Morgenstern’s notion “Aye, that he does” he would say with a smile as he looked down at his familiar. “He’d rather like I only wear my armor when it’s actually needed, it’s an easy way for the two of us to communicate without words. When I don my armor, he dons his flames and he knows its fighting time, so I’ll stay in this for now” he said to Morgenstern. “Aye” he would say as they went out into the 21st floor’s fields of rocks, stalactites and other cave elements scattered around the darkened floor. Looking at the notes he had taken about the quest, Macradon could see that the boss would do a tremendous amount of damage, he would sigh and look at what he had in his disposal. He would shrug and take out two potions to drink while they were walking out towards the field where the boss were to be found.

Jonathan rose an eyebrow at the two's form of communication when it came to when it was time for battle or not. It was a strange method, btu if it worked he would leave them be about it. He and his familiar never really worked together as the creature was too big and slow to be of any use. Also, he found the turtle had a lazy nature and would rather sit in the sidelines in stone form. He would find Macradon to be looking at some notes before pulling out some potions and gulping them down. Jonathan never really buffed and preferred a challenge when it came to battles like these. "So what is our battle plan today?" Jonathan asked the man. "I can be main tank and allow you to completely focus on nothing but damage, or we can just go out there both in attack mode and slash and hack our way through it" He scratched his face before saying, "With its mitigation, I could provide about fifity damage per turn. From what I know, it has a lot of health and damage.... That means if we try to blitz it we would both sustain heavy damage. Me tanking would probably be the best choice" Jonathan knew what he should do... but it was up to Macradon.

Looking at the notes he had, Macradon would reply “Well, the best strategy for us is to go bruiser, be able to tank fairly well, but damage just as well. This boss has a special attack that resets the aggro counter, so even if you do tank, it could easily just go and target me the same” he said and looked at what he had before him to think of. He had been a bad coordinator lately, and he wasn’t innately a good planner, so this was both a challenge and a lecture for him to learn more about team tactics. “If you want to tank up, go for it, but just be weary that he might just end up ignoring your mid way battle and you would have to build up your hate before your tanking would become useful again” Macradon said and would see that they were getting near. “Alright, time to test out the new guns” Macradon said as he donned his full plate armor and drew his new sword Blade of the Dictator. As Belphegor saw its master don his armor, hellish flames would erupt and engulf the three headed hound as it was signalling a fight to be near.

Through experience and wisdom, Macradon proposed a plan that would blow his out of the water. Jonathan had never accounted for a skill that would reset hate and cause for what Jonathan called anti-tanking. He suggested the go brusier and Jonathan quickly updated his armor set up to match his command. His silver-bladed sword hung at his hip as he wore white armor lines with strips of gold. Instead of a shield in his hand, he wore a pendant on his neck to bring his accuracy. He quickly looked over at Macradon who was equipping armor that fully covered his entire body head to toe. Just as Macradon had said, the man's familiar became engulfed in flames. Jonathan jumped back with surprise and chuckled. Things seemed to be getting serious. Macradon had a more business side to him than Jonathan did and was ready to fight. "Things are... heating up, aren't they?"

With all puns aside, Jonathan moved forward. He was a bit uncomfortable without his shield and he wasn't skilled enough to use his other weapon. As he neared the boss he quickly went over its physical details and weapons he could see. For a once human king, the creature was rather tall, taller than Macradon and him as it stood at seven feet tall. Its skin was gray and decaying, giving the creature and undead look. As Jonathan entered a twenty meter radius, it quickly turned towards them making a hissing noise. It had no ideas and carried a long dark spear that appeared prepared to impale them. "Well Macradon. I am going to at least try to take the first few hits from him. Get ready because He's about to charge" After that, Jonathan would let out a Howl focused upon the enemy.

Macradon nodded towards Morgenstern with his notion “Aye, you could say so” Macradon replied and would set himself ready to fight. Macradon stood ready with his sword in hand and the chain of his hound in the other, as soon as the fight would commence Macradon would let go of the chain and point towards the skeletal behemoth that was the boss of this mission. As the chain would be released, great howls from the depths of hell would emit from the three heads as the fight had begun. Morgenstern had entered the battlefield, howling out to grab the attention of the boss while Cerberus circled around the battlefield "Not If I get him first" Macradon replied towards Morgenstern. With legs as strong as a panther’s, Belphegor would close the distance in and jump up and latch onto the great grey skinned behemoth. Just as Belphegor had launched an attack, Macradon would activate his <Charge> and rush into battle as well. With a quick motion he activated his <Galaxy Destroyer> sword art. With a single cleave Macradon would rip off a chunk of the health of the boss, though it was a heavy blow, there was still a long way before they would have defeated the ancient king.

The tall king stood tall as Macradon charged with his hellhound at his side. Though the king stood no chance to the speed and power of his charge, his health hardly dipped despite the brunt force of the blow. "He must be extremely powerful to be able to withstand a blow like that without a large dip in his health" Jonathan charged forward, the king readying his spear as he came. "Try and match my power" Jonathan began a flurry of attacks, striking from many alternating angles. Several of his blows made contact with his enemies body, but didn't knock the creature back enough to prevent a counter attack. With wild fury, the Time Forgotten King thrust his spear forward catching Jonathan in the chest. His armor repelled the attack and instead the spear knocked him back dealing qute a bit damage. "This guy is not joking around" Jonathan would say as he got up. Wiping the dirt from his face, he would put himself in a battle ready stance.

Macradon agreed, this monster was quite the boss to face, strong enough to not have backup of minions and henchmen to fill in for difficulty without having any AOE dps players with you. Either way, Macradon was in a fine place right now. Having enough damage to dent the health a bit, even though not too much, just enough to take care of the worst. “Aye, he’s a big one!” Macradon said as he went in for an attack, but seeing that his attack was anticipated with what seemed like a riposte guard, Macradon canceled his sword art activation and would let Morgenstern go in for the hit, hopefully making an opening for Macradon to take advantage of. This ancient king seemed to be programmed to anticipate attacks, which Macradon was delighted about “Finally, a real challenge to face that isn’t a floor boss” Macradon thought for himself as he looked down at Belphegor “Try to circle around him anti-clockwise and find an opening, I’ll charge in soon” he said.

The king seemed to have inhuman strength, speed, and ability to perceive incoming attacks. With quick moves, it forced Macradon to cancel his attack and draw back before it returned its focus to him. Its last attack had dealt severe damage to the tank, making more of a dent to his health than anything but a floor boss had ever done before. Even Macradon seemed impressed by its power. Jonathan's attacks hardly phase the creature. He would end up dealing about a hundred damage ever four successful attacks. At that rate, he would deal two to three hundred damage before he was drained. If Macradon didn't have something up his sleeve the two would be forced to retreat. "This boss is definitely stronger than an oversized bird I can recall!" He would say before charging, preparing his most powerful sword art.

Jonathan cut through the distance between himself and the enemy quickly.  The enemy was much quicker and knocked Jonathan's sword aside. With precision and power, the King thrust his spear into Jonathan's chest, going through even the armor. The mere force caused him to cough, but he was then raised into the air, his body motionless. "Traitorous Peasants like you will die to my hand" He quickly pulled his spear out, and kicked Jonathan back into the ground. Jonathan lay motionless afterwards, a paralyze effect taking over.

Macradon had to agree, even though Shi was quite the enemy, it was not nearly as powerful as this behemoth “That’s true, but we’ve also come quite far since”. Macradon had not much in his arsenal to not be in danger at current time, but with the two switching between tanking and whatnot, Macradon would have the biggest problem for either safety. It seemed that Morgenstern had been struck by quite the blow from this giant king of forgotten time, seemed like the attention had switched over to Macradon as Belphegor had circled behind the king. As Macradon would begin to approach the king he would roar out “Now!”. As Macradon’s word would echo throughout the field, Belphegor would launch itself up and with all three heads force down the great king for Macradon to take a cheap shot at the prideful king. “It will be nice to see a king be slain by those he thought to be peasants! The power of the just will take thee down!” Macradon roared as he cleaved with his greatsword, dealing not too much damage, but enough for Macradon to be more pumped than before to keep this battle going.

Jonathan's body hit the cold ground hard, tumbling a few times before coming to a stop. He moved to get up, but his muscles felt like lead, unable to move. 'Paralysis?' he thought to himself. The boss definitely was not made jut for kicks. He struggled to move his arm over to where he had been impaled by the boss's spear. The gap was closing, meaning no bleed effect, but the spear had gone all the way through. Luckily, pain absorbers had done their job and he was not blacking out from the pain.

As the boss had finished showing his power to the blonde haired player, a blow was taken to the back after three bites had held him down to prevent movement. Before he managed to swat off the pesky Cerberus, reasonable damage had been dealt to him. The man in front of the boss spoke of taking him down, and the power of just would be the weapon the man would wield. "It is a shame to see a knight to fall to such treachery to be able to raise a blade to his own ruler" With those words said, he burst forward at a high speed, thrusting his weapon forward. The spear pushed into the man's chest, releasing another powerful electric current, paralyzing the man. The boss would quickly pull out the spear and smack the man with the butt to knock him away. "A knight's duty is to his king, not to his people, whether the king is unjust or not"

As Morgenstern didn’t have time nor the possibility to jump in and take any damage from the attack, Macradon had become the only target the ancient king would focus upon. Without any hesitation after Macradon’s attack, the king’s spear would pierce into Macradon’s chest through his plate armor. The non-existing pain had already been ignored, but what could not be ignored was the sheer force of impact and special effect that had taken over Macradon. “Dammit” he cursed himself as he fell to a knee after being slammed away with the butt of the spear. With his sword into his ground, grasping upon the hilt to hold him up from the blow, Macradon could struggle as the <Paralyze> effect had engulfed his body from an electrical surge emitted by the spear. Belphegor, quickly coming to his owner’s support, would jump in between the downed Macradon and the standing king, growling and barking with the three heads, furious upon this behemoth in front of them.

"Step aside, pathetic mutt" the king would say, raising its spear to strike the beast.

Jonathan felt his body coming back into the works and he stood up slowly. He watched as the enemy impaled Macradon as it did him. Jonathan grit his teeth together before charging forward. "HEY, DON'T ASK FOR SECONDS, UNTIL YOU ARE DONE WITH YOUR FIRST!" Jonathan leapt forward, slicing his sword horizontally to cut into the king's gut. His sword met its mark and knocked back the king. Of course, not much damage had been dealt by him, but it managed to throw off the boss, preventing it from attacking him, and hopefully knocking off its focus enough for Macradon to get an attack in. They together had hardly knocked off any health the creature had, mostly due to the fact that the creature had high mitigation and Jonathan had low attack power still yet. The king clutched his stomach where he had been hit, obviously angered by him.

As he staggered, trying to get up, Macradon would push through with all his might. Noticing that Morgenstern had gotten up from his Paralysis, Macradon would await his timer to be up. As he felt the movement in his body loosen up again, he quickly sprung into action as he leaped forward and did a pirouette, circling around Morgenstern and would come with a fierce blow. His sword began to illuminate in a bright turquoise as his <Galaxy Destroyer> sword art would activate, unluckily for Macradon, the staggering blow from Morgenstern forced the Time Forgotten King to use its spear and plunge it into the ground to keep him standing, which resulted in Macradon only hitting the shaft of the spear, throwing off the balance of the King, but not connecting a damaging hit. Even though he hadn’t done much at this point, it was probably enough to make an opening “He’s off balance again, let’s throw some hits while he’s vulnerable!” Macradon shouted at both Morgenstern and Belphegor, readying another attack.

As the King began to recover from Jonathan's attack that knocked him off balance, Macradon struck his spear causing the boss to stumble. Hearing Macradon shout to him, Jonathan leaned forward and sprung off of his front foot. His blade began to glow a bright shade of blue and it arced down towards his foe's body. The blade ripped through his opponent's chest, a trail of red shards coming free with his sword. It health was hardly effected, but Jonathan's energy bar was going down. "When we get down to it, we will have to take turns running away from battle and reentering to regather our energy" It was a cheap tactic, but it would keep the two fighters from being inable to fight any longer. The king brought a hand to the wound from Jonathan's  sword and in a rumbling voice said, "Tis nothing more than an annoyance" but he was starting to get back his balance.

Macradon would clikc his tongue “Aye … this seems to become a problem, we have to do something about it, just tanking while the other recovered won't help much but to delay, it’s going to become a stall war, and with his high mitigation and damage, we won’t last as long as him in this. We need more people for this” Macradon said as he went for another <Galaxy Destroyer>, cleaving a good chunk into the ancient king. Energy wasn’t a problem for him personally, since his Recovery was doing such a good job for him, but having more would probably help, since Morgenstern was getting down on energy and they had only done a sliver of damage to this behemoth. Macradon wasn’t too sure what Morgenstern wanted, Macradon could fight on with his current energy and go ham for a long time, but having more people joining could possibly make this battle much more enjoyable and doable.
