History:

Touma Nakamura was born the middle child of two well achieved parents, one an accomplished author and the other the ceo of a mid size manufacturing business. He was the average one, earning middling marks and getting into an alright university. Both of his sibling excelled in school, his older sister an up and coming attorney in America, and his younger brother studying medicine in Europe. 

While in school, Atouma's grandfather, who had been his mentor, sensei, and confidant, passed away. He took this particularly hard and it eventually caused him to drop out of school. His parents told him that he hamed them, so he moved away from the family home in Tokyo. He got a small apartment, working a dead end job to support himself while he devoted most of his time to writing and illustrating mostly unsuccessful manga and comic books.

When he wasn't working on his art and writing, Atouma enjoyed playing older fantasy RPGs. It was a way for him to decompress and gain ideas for his next book. While picking up a couple of vintage games, he heard about the up and coming Nerve Gear and it's launch game, a VRMMO. He thought that with the open world and endless possibilities, he'd gain a lot of material, and likely have a lot of fun, with the game. He spent the next several months saving, scraping, and penny pinching to get access into the preorder.

On launch day, he called out of work sick, and got ready to enjoy what was said the be the greatest video game of his time.

Virtues:

Courageous. Touma is brave; that isn't to say he doesn't feel fear. He simply does his best to summon his courage in order to defeat that fear. He dives headlong into challenges, trying to find balance between safety and self improvement.

Friendly. Touma is charasmatic and hopeful, allowing people to generally like him. He welcomes this, and generally enjoys the company of others as well. He enjoys social interaction, and is often open with those he considers friends. This gives him an edge over less social players, allowing him to call on aid when needed.

Skilled. While he usually plays magic wielding classes in online games, Touma's natural and learned abilities lend a helping hand in a game like SAO. He is a practiced swordsman and learned practitioner of Muay Thai. This combination of fighting styles allows him to be creative in combat, utilizing his knees, elbows, and shins in conjunction with his sword.

Flaws:

Foolhardy. Touma's courage, while giving him an edge at times, can hamstring his wisdom. He can on occasion make bold, but rash, decisions. This sometimes puts himself and his friends in unnecessary danger. He tries to curb this behavior, but is not always successful.

Soft-hearted. Touma is kind and compassionate, and while this can lead him to making new friends easier, it can also gain him the disdain of more elite players. As he is often open and trusting, it also leaves him exposed to Player Killers and their ilk. He would never consider his heart for people a weakness, but he does see how this could leave him vulnerable. 

Unfamiliar. While his real world skill has translated well to SAO, it is for the most part a new type of game for him. He enjoys RPG's but usually plays them single player and as a magic user. He is still adjusting to the MMO format, and with the stakes this high, he only hopes he can make that change quicker.
