[F21-SP] <<Nature's Treasure>> Provision time!

Recommended Posts

Benjamin had needed to get himself some tier three materials- there were plenty of high level players poking around his shop lately, and it was about time that he should be able to sell some high level items to them.  He just needed to go up to the high level floors to get them... and hope he didn't get killed in the process.  He had managed to ask around enough to hear of a relatively safe area to find crafting materials in, called Nature's Treasure.  He had the hope that there wouldn't be any monsters if he searched there- even the weakest ones on this floor would be too big for him to do anything but run from.

So he walked his way through the town of Tomoika, trying very hard to get his familiar to sit still and not try and crawl out after every single mushroom he saw.  Especially since this town was full of them.  He had the route to the cave system loaded in his map, and an empty bag ready to be loaded full of good materials.  (And a teleportation stone too, just in case)

Ben started his walk down to the cave, checking his map once more before he left- more out of nerves than any real danger.  The path that led down to where he needed was clear, the only sounds being his familiar happily munching on one of the mushrooms that he had snagged when Ben wasn't looking.  At least he had managed to stop Sebastian from eating himself into a food coma again... though that might have made searching a bit easier.

As he walked along, he saw a few places that might look good to search through... but he held out until he got to the cave to start looking.  There wasn't anyone around to see him be scared right now, so he was not putting on a brave face and instead was flinching away from anything that looked dangerous.  But he saw the (presumed) entrance coming up soon, so all he had to do was head on in.

As he stepped through the cave entrance, Ben caught his breath, stunned for a good few seconds.  It was much more beautiful than he had thought it could be.  All around were glowing mushrooms and fungus, all different colors and glowing hues.  There were even a few small bugs skittering between each of the plants.  You could just soak in all the color and majesty all day, and Ben was willing to do so.  But, he did have work to get done.  The next boss would be coming up soon, and he wanted to be as big a help as he could be.

So, Ben poked at his familiar to wake him out of the trance he was in.  The little guy was drooling so hard he almost dropped the mushroom he already had.  With a chuckle, Ben started heading toward the section of fungus he was staring hardest at.  It was an instant jackpot, and his bag started to fill up already.  This cave system was going to be great.

Before Ben was even finished with packing away the first batch of materials he had grabbed, Sebastian was already eagerly pointing at another pile of mushrooms.  Ben stuffed the last bunch in his pouch, and went over to take a look.  It was a neon pink round headed specimen, with some blueish bits dripping off of it.  As he took a closer look, it seemed like the spores are what he wanted.  A quick search of his bag found a few vials to put them in, though as he started it seemed he was bothering one of the little bugs who lived under there.  He chuckled at the sight of such an indignant creature, and slowly backed away so not to disturb its nest before he packed away his new finds.  Sebastian looked a little angry that he cared so much for the smaller insects, but was quickly distracted by yet another find further on in the colorful cavern.

A new bunch of gooey fungi greeted him as he checked out the walls.  He could not believe that a place with so many materials existed so close to town- probably because of how confusing the paths were in these caverns.  It would make going off of the beaten path so soon seem like a poor choice unless you knew where you were going.  Either that or all the fungus and spores in the air.  A lot of people did not find this nearly as interesting as he did.

Still, the green and orange goo was very nice to have.  He quickly filled up another vial with the stuff, only to have it bubble up and overflow before he could cap it.  This would make getting samples much harder, so he decided to just stop at the one vial, holding his hand over to Sebastisn so he could lick off the excess that got on him.  It seemed he was having just as good a time here.

Benjamin had seen a few extra mushrooms nearby for him to try and grab up, since Sebastian had decided to take a bit of a nap after the last few finds.  Well, what can you do about a little animal like that.  As he picked them up to inspect though, his HUD was telling him they were not useful for crafting.  With a sigh, he offered them to Sebastian for a snack.  But he still had some mushrooms from town left, and just gave it an indifferent sniff.  It must mean he had found a lot if even his familiar was too full for more.

He glanced around, taking in the sights of the cavern as he did.  He would be able to find some more materials soon enough... in the meantime he gave the mushrooms a questioning sniff.  It was pretty obvious that they were only meant for familiars to snack on though.  He would stick to travel rations himself.

Ben took a bit of a rest, letting his familiar chow down on all the mushroom snacks for a bit.  It was a nice break from the constant battles for their lives that him and his friends had gone though most days.  Still, even in a place as calm as this one is, it was pretty hard for him to get a good amount of crafting materials- he was having trouble figuring out which of these bits were usable, and which were not.  His caterpillar seemed to be able to eat anything down here, so that wasn't much help at all.  But at least he was happy.

So, he took another look around the glowing, colorful surroundings to try and decide where to look next.  He figured the largest concentration of plants would be the best, so he decided to delve a bit deeper to see if he could find a good batch to start his search upon.

As he began to look deeper, and get distracted by the different colors of plants and fungus around here, Ben pulled a notepad out of his pouch.  He might as well catalog some of these sights as he went along, hopefully so that he could use the information to find some better drops the next time that he came here, or so that he could possibly help out other gatherers that came down here another time.  If he could ever get a dedicated group to go gathering for materials, which was always the sticking point.

He noted down the different types of mushrooms, and their color and location.  Though it seemed that each one he saw came in different colors or sizes- maybe it was related?  Or maybe it had to do with where each of them were located?  Whichever method it was, he would have to gather up a lot of data before he could say for sure what was and what wasn't going to affect his gathering quests.

Ben started testing which of the mushrooms would make the best places for him to gather mats from.  He started with one of the biggest patches he saw, a red group of droopy specimens growing on some rocks.  They kind of bore a resemblance to lawyers wigs from the real world, and those ones were safe to eat (if a bit bland).  So it made sense that these would be too.  A quick couple of sniffs and he could see some of the data in his HUD, telling him that these would be fine for crafting.  Of course, the second he found something useful, his familiar wanted a bite, so he tucked them away safely before he could crawl over.  Ben knew the angry looks Sebastian was giving him would be gone the second something else was in his mouth.  That was how it had always worked with his familiar's bottomless stomach.  (It was cute though)

As he continued his tally of the different mushrooms, he grabbed his familiar to put him on a crop of fungus covered rocks nearby, hoping that he would keep busy there while he worked.  However, not a second after he turned his back on Sebastian, the little caterpillar let out a shrill cry that brought him back.  Apparently the rock already had some occupants in the form of some of the smaller insects that inhabited the area.  They were making their displeasure at having a new guest on their rock heard- though quietly, since Sebastian could probably squish them if he wanted to.  So Ben picked his familiar back up with a roll of his eyes, and got a glance of some of the holes in the rock they crawled out of.  It looked like these guys were living in some very nice mushrooms- ones that quickly found their way into Ben's pouch for later use.  Much to the unhappiness of the guys who had been using them.

Benjamin finished up looking through the rock, and pulling what mats he could from the angry current residents.  Sebastian was sitting on his shoulder by now, looking rather smug, since he had picked out one of the mushrooms as his personal snack.  Ben, in the meantime, had decided to pull out his notebook again and try to make some sketches of what he had gathered, and make some notes to keep track of what they were.  Granted, his drawing skills were an absolute disaster, so it was mostly his notes that would be worth anything in the future, which is why he took the time to make such detailed comments about everything that he had grabbed.

He popped back to his feet, stretching his back a bit after taking the time to make such detailed notes for later.  He had gotten behind on the schedule that he had wanted to be on, but it would be nice to have such good notes for a later date.

After his stretch was completed and he felt like he could keep moving some more, Ben went the the next section of wall that he had not explored yet.  It was covered in a variety of different colored mushrooms, ranging from deep dark purple to not quite as dark blue.  (So not every color, but still neat looking in its own right)  He grabbed one at a time off the wall, checking them individually to see if his HUD would give him any extra information on their usefulness. (It was aggrivatingly vague as it usually wad) Then he let his familiar take a few sniffs, and one or two bites of the ones he reacted most positively towards, to further test.  He found it gave him almost no information at all, so he instead just grabbed anything that would add to his inventory.  He could always test them in his lab if it came down to something like that.

Benjamin continued to pull some of the new mushroom species off of the cavern wall, occasionally feeding his familiar a couple of the smaller bits to keep him happy.  It wasn't the fastest he had gotten materials before, but at least it was going smoothly and steadily for now.  If he just kept at it he could have enough to craft T3 items until it was time for the next boss raid, though that time was running short.  It always seemed to be running short in this game- so many of the more dedicated players focused more on pushing rather than crafting, which was reasonable.  They needed more pushers than crafters.

So, Ben continued his scavenging, keeping a sharp eye out for any insects crawling out of there.  A few sharp stings would really take the winds out of his sails if they happened, not to mention the danger of any poison they carried.  He hoped the few antidotes he carried would be enough for emergencies.

Benjamin continued to pull some more of the mushrooms from the cavern wall, adding them to his already rapidly filling pouch of stuff.  It was already a good haul, and he had not even done half of the searching that he had planned for the day.  And even if he did, this section of caverns was big enough that he wouldn't go through half of it- which made it the perfect place for him.

After he stripped the wall clean, he turned to see what else he could see in the cavern for easy pickings.  He had to first get all the current mats he had put away in his inventory- he couldn't fit much more at this rate.  So Ben popped open his HUD and started moving things over a bit at a time.  It was hard to keep count with all the different types of materials going into their own piles, but he found he had about what he expected by the end of it.  Plus, he noted that exploring this cave counted as a (thankfully repeatable) quest, which was neat in that he could come back to find better mats here whenever he wanted.

Ben finished up his inventory clean up, making sure he had a general count of which of the materials came from where.  He had hoped that some of the things he had harvested would give him a bounty of mats so he could search for them again, but had not run into such luck yet.  It seemed most of the harvestable patches in the cavern were good, but not great.  It was something to work with at least.

So he continued onto the next big patch, several bunches of red and orange mushrooms under a moist outcropping of rock.  It seemed to have a lot of mats there for harvest, but as he sifted through them he found it was only the orange ones that would be worth any mats, and the red ones just slowed down his ability to actually get anything out of these patches.  Still, he got enough to start filling up his bag again.  Hopefully they would turn into some useful crystals.

Benjamin continued scouring under the rocks for the mushrooms that would do him the most good.  They were plentiful, and he found himself filling up his pockets quickly once more.  It was turning out to be a good day.  After he swept from one side of the rocks to the other, he looked back over at where he started, and saw that some of the smaller mushrooms had already started to grow back.  He quickly doubled back to look at the previous areas he had gathered from, and they were started to have fungus or mushrooms blossom back there again as well.  It looked like things grew back extremely quickly in this part of the cave- probably on account of the quest that was in the area.  Whatever the reason was though, he was very thankful for it.  It meant he could hang around here as long as he wanted to and keep finding new things to gather.  It was awesome.

Ben doubled back towards the entrance of the cavern, or at least he tried to do so.  With the floors sloping a bit around this floor of the game it was easy to get turned around, or wind up on a different elevation than you had intended.  Still, there were a few good choices for him to pick from as he walked down the new side path he found himself on.  He spied a fairy ring- a group of yellow mushrooms that grow in a circle around a grassy area.  They were usually edible (at least in the real world) though not usually found in caverns.  Orin shades of bright pink.  But it seemed this game didn't really care about that, and the mushrooms piled nicely into his pack for safe keeping- at least until he chopped them up and made them into items.  He kind of wished that he could save some of them for his garden, but it didn't work that way in this world.  Too bad.

As Benjamin continued his search, finding more of the edible fairy ring mushrooms as he went.  It seemed that this side cavern that he went down was full of some pretty good places to pick the mushrooms from.  He decided to let Sebastian down to the floor so that he could start to nibble away at some of his favorite foods while Ben started to sort out the pieces that he had gotten already.  Here you go little guy.  You start munching on what's left around here while I make a list of what I have so far.  We've been doing well enough that you can grab some of the extras for snacks, OK? he said to the little guy.  His familiar happily allowed himself to be dropped down near the circle of plucked up bits and started stuffing himself full of anything that he could fit into his mouth.  Ben gave a little chuckle as he sorted through his new finds- theses ones would be really great for crafting.

Benjamin counted up the little pink bits he had gotten from the mushrooms in this room- so far he had some pretty good numbers.  He actually found that he could grab some of the smaller bits from the stems and they could be added to his inventory as materials as well.  Not in as big of numbers as the main parts, but every little bit counted for crafting.  Especially since there were a lot of little bits just lying around on the ground and waiting for him to pick up.  He had to crawl a bit to get to them, which was not the best either.  Sebastian seemed to find it funny though- at least when he was not filling up.  By the time Ben had grabbed what he could and went to go put Sebastian back in his roost, the caterpillar's mouth was so full it had a couple of bits hanging out of it.  He really wondered about his familiar sometimes.

Benjamin continued through the cavern, looking for what he could find for crafting.  Instead, he caught sight of a small glimmer of light in the far end of a tunnel.  It looked a lot different than the mushrooms that he had seen glowing throughout the previous walls, and it was probably going to be worth his time to head down that path and see what was down there.  He decided to be cautious, just in case there was some sort of trap down that path.  It was unlikely, since this questing area seemed rather quiet and peaceful, plus it wouldn't really go with the quest's vibe to have a trap in the middle of in.  But you had to be cautious in this game, just in case.  It looked like there was a treasure chest down there, and as he slowly approached and got a better view of it he found that it looked safe enough.  Now he just had to open it up and see what's inside.
