[PP-F4] King of Icecream! (Night's King)

Recommended Posts

The blond would set up camp, pitching the tent and pulling out wood from his inventory. Itzal was right to advise to keep this stuff around. A typical small campsite was made, him throwing his own sleeping bag outside the tent, figuring Neo wouldn't want to share the tent with a random boy she had just met a few hours prior. As he would get a message, he would find it was from his silent friend who was apparently checking out the boss room. If there was a chest, there was a chance for a monster. He would let her keep the rewards if there was anything, but he didn't want her to get attacked. Returning to the Throne room, he would walk over to Neo.

"Alrighty, crack that bad boy open. Let's see if we get anything good. Also, f there is anything good inside you keep it. I don't really need it" He would tell her. Drawing his sword from its sheath, he would bring it to his side.

Once Morgenstern was over, Neo was partially hoping that he would open it. It seemed that he wanted the loot to go to her though, so she didn't mind going to open it. She knew that there was the chance of a mimic, so she made sure she had everything in place and her sword ready just in case. Her deeds paid off as the chest suddenly opened up and took a bite at her arm when she went to open it. Scrambling back, Neo made sure to keep her distance from the gnashing jaws. Though she knew Morgenstern could hop in and take the mimic out quite easily, she hoped that she could show just how powerful she could be against creatures her own level.

That's assuming that the chest isn't scaling up to him, in which case this is going to be much harder than I am ready for.

He would blink as the chest would come to life, taking a bite of Neo's arm. "Every time, its just my luck. Inviting me over was not a good idea" Raising his drawn sword, it would be to gleam a blue light. "I'm just glad I am back to full strength for this thing" Stepping forward, he would allow the game to bring him into motion. A motion that slash up the chest into little pieces. As he drew closer, he would start with an uppercut, sending the small chest into the air. From there, he would bring upon a dozen of small quick slashes, before making a heavy downward slice. The chest would bounce off of the ground before shattering into blue pixels. He would whistle before looking at Neo again.

"That was rather smooth and clean. Luckily, it was only scaled to you. Of course, normal mobs can't do that on this floor, now can they?" Sheathing his weapon once more, he would point back to the direction of the entrance. "Well, I got a tent all set up. No reason to be uncomfortable while you wait out the storm, right?" He would step slowly away.

With the mimic down, Neo went over to the tent that Morgenstern had provided for them. She was a little sad that she couldn't show off her own abilities, but it was understandable that Morgenstern wouldn't want to risk the life of another player. Once inside the tent, Neo did her best to huddle from the cold. Though the storm wasn't around them, the air was still frigid in the boss room. Perhaps it had something to do with the bosses aura, or maybe there was no insulation left in the walls. She kept thinking of possibilities, hoping to get the thoughts of her freezing out of her mind. She wasn't sure if there was really anything for the two of them to do while they waited out the storm. She doubted that she could find any resources in a boss room, and there certainly wasn't going to be a place she could go fishing. Maybe they could find some simple game to pass the time.

As they would walk back, the cold would begin to seep into him. The exposure to it was beginning to outlast his survival skill. Neo of course, was silent the entire time. Something was different, her face held some sort of pout to it. He wondered if he did something wrong. He wished she would say something and have a conversation, but he knew not to expect that from her. She was physically mute there, but here she was selectively mute. He brought her to the tent, which held a bit warmer of a temperature here. As she would step in, he would tell her, "Stay warm" before zipping up the zipper. She would be a bit warmer than he, but he could get over it. As he would open his inventory to pull out his own sleepingbag, his teeth would begin to chatter. 'Damn this game. I like this floor, but staying the night in it is not my idea of fun. If we could freeze to death in this game, we would end up doing just that right now' He wasn't sure if Neo would sit in the tent and freeze or go to sleep and hope it would go away in the morning. He would sit down, trying to get the wood on the ground to burn. He had completely forgotten flint or anything in the game to start fires.  Of course, since it was a game, you could only start fires with certain things.

Once inside the tent, Neo did her best to warm up. There was little she could do, but Morgenstern just zipped up the tent and stayed outside. She was fine with him coming in, though she could see how her silence would be off-putting. Though she didn't have a sleeping bag, there was a little bit of extra canvas from the tent that she could partially wrap herself in. It was still cold, but it gave a sense of comfort for her. She didn't know how long the storm would last, so she did her best to just fall asleep and let it all pass over. As she slept, she had thoughts of something just out of her reach, some memory escaping her grasp. She decided it wasn't worth pursuing, probably just some silly little memory of her as a child. For now she would sleep and wait out the storm. Hopefully Morgenstern would be fine outside.

The cold seeped in, ignoring the warmth of the fire. Jonathan tried to find rest, but all he could hear was the chattering of his own teeth. He would completely curl into a ball within his sleeping bag, but the cold in the floor itself seemed to come through the bag, cooling it down. Of course, he wouldn't freeze to death, but it would be very uncomfortable. He could actually freeze, but it would just be a status effect and it warm up once the sun came out the next morning, even if it was only about a fifteen degree increase. Tossing and turning again he would sigh. Coming outside of his sleeping bag shell, he would drag it over to the ten and rap on the outside. After five seconds would past, he would unzip the tent and slip in himself. Through chattering teeth he would tell her, "I-I am r-really sor-rry. I c-can't handle b-being out th-there. I d-don't want to invade your p-priv-vacy" He found the mechanic of tents in this game almost stupid. The cold would move through his sleeping bag, but the tent ground wasn't letting in any cold. In fact, it was much warmer inside than outside. It didn't make sense. Of course, it was still cold, but he wasn't going to chatter.

'It is still uncomfortably cold in here to' He would slip his body back into his sleeping bag. He would look one more time at the awakened Neo and a sense of guilt hit him. I'm sorry... I don't have another sleeping bag... I don't wanna make you use canvas from the tent..."

@Neopolitan sorry for the wait....

Neo was about to get to sleep when Morgensetern gave as best a knock as one could on a canvas flap. She got up a little bit to get the zipper when he opened it himself. She motioned for him to come in, though it seemed he wasn't waiting for it. She was really uncertain as to why he was playing the noble gentleman and staying outside. She didn't mind just letting him for a night, as she doubted he would do anything to her. He may seem a little awkward on the outside, but he certainly was not the unscrupulous type. As he began to talk Neo made sure to gesture no in a way that made it seem she was fine with him coming into his own tent. She was the visitor here, so it wasn't her choice whether he came in or not. As the two began to settle back in, Neo just gave a shrug to Morgenstern's final comment. She didn't mind not having a sleeping bag, the thought of getting one had never occurred to her. The tent seemed to be doing fine in terms of heat anyways, so she didn't mind just rolling up with a little bit of canvas.

@Morgenstern (Don't worry about it)

(Woah you changed your profile pic... School has kept me too busy lol)

The girl wouldn't seem to mind him coming in, shrugging to all of his questions. He kind of wished she would speak to let him know exactly what she was thinking. It kind of gave her a mysterious vibe. If none knew her voice, then she would make for the best of thieves. Nobody would have ever guessed it was her.... Unless she would wear all pink when thieving things. "Thanks" he would tell her, watching her move back to the canvas. It made him feel guilty. He had always lived under the rule of seeing the best in others and ensuring those he trusted were in better shape than he. It was one of the reasons he became a tank. He would rather lose himself than his closest friends. He had been told before from some players in the past that he would end up losing his life. His virtue to protect others would only become his fatal flaw, an inevitable end. By the time this world had ended, he would have had his luck expired and given himself up in an unneeded sacrifice to protect a person that he held close.

Shaking the thoughts from his head, he would close his eyes an attempt to drift to sleep.

(finished calming the soul, profile pic is a reflection of the changes in character. This is one of the few old Neo threads left)

As Neo went to sleep, the swirling winds outside began to mix with her thoughts. A flurry of images began to go by her. Flashes of white, pink, brown, and caramel colored hair flew by her. Faces were vaguely visible but not discernible. The mist over her eyes cleared and she saw a waterfall. She was hovering over the river, just past where the falls landed. She was carried around and saw a pedestal behind the waterfall, constantly sprayed by the mist. She was taken into it, and saw flashes of images. A shadow, a false smile, green eyes, and bloodstained white hair. She had no idea what it meant. Without warning, Neo was filled with a sense of fear. Trying to run away from the place, Neo found herself stuck in the corner of some strange room inside the pedestal. She began to softly cry in the corner until she was awoken to the sound of silence. The storm had ended and the sun was peeking through cracks in the halls structure. Trying to push away the thought of the dream, Neo made her way outside of the tent to enjoy the brisk morning air. It wasn't much, but it was still enough to enjoy that she could take her mind off of the dream and figuring out what it meant.

His sleep was dreamless as usual, sleep bringing solitude to nagging thoughts. He would awake to a ripping sound of a zipper. The noise grabbed his attention and he began to fight his own drowsiness. He would open his eyes, sitting up slowly. As he did, he would look over to the canvas of the tent, no longer finding a girl wrapped within the canvas. He would rub his eyes before unzipping his sleeping bag to get up. As he did, his legs felt cold being snatched from the warmth of the bag. Returning his cold-weather equipment to his body, he would follow Neo's act by exiting the tent. Looking around, he wouldn't find her within the halls of the fortress. He heard a moan to his right, along with shambles. 'The monsters would have respawned hours ago. She wouldn't have gone that way'. Turning to the left, he seen daylight through the crack in the door. Understanding that the storm would have passed he began to frown. "She wouldn't have just... left would she?"

He would pull on the door, the iron handles cold to the touch. His foot would hit snow instead of the stone floor of the fortress. The morning air was crisp and cool, the temperature much warmer than the previous night. He would find Neo standing a few feet out, her back turned to him. She stood there, focused, as if her mind was thinking on something.

Unsure of what to do, he stood still. Should he approach, or just remain quiet and let her do whatever she needed.

It was cold, but Neo didn't shiver. Her mind was focused on what lay ahead of her. She could still remember that dream vividly, like she had actually experienced it. Though none of the imagery made sense, it was still at the forefront of her mind. She wasn't sure how much time had passed while thinking. Minutes? Hours? She did eventually feel some presence over her shoulder. Turning around, she saw that Morgenstern had also woken up now. Neo did her best to play off her just sitting there, quickly getting up. She couldn't know how long he had been standing there. Though kind of him to respect her privacy, he certainly didn't seem to enjoy doing it. She quickly wrote and sent a message to him, preparing to leave when he was ready to.

Spoiler

@Morgenstern

    Looks like the storm is finished. I'm ready to leave back towards town whenever you are. You should probably take point on the way back, as I'm guessing the monsters have respawned by now.

He would watch as she turned, hastily getting up. He hoped that he didn't make the wrong decision in just standing there. After she would brush off the snow, she would send him a message, telling him to take point for the journey back. Hopefully, due to his high level, most of the monsters would stay away. Usually, they did. He would nod to the girl, walking back in the direction of Snowfrost Town. As he walked down the side of the giant hill, he would turn back to the girl and ask a question. "Everything alright? You sat there for quite some time" After she would respond, whether she would shake her head or nod, he would reply, "If you ever need help with anything, I got time" Even though he was mentoring other members from the Ascendants, Neo was nice enough that if she needed help he would.

'I wonder who she felt in the real world, being really unable to express herself.... I wonder if she has tried talking in the game to see what her voice was like'

Neo nodded her head, even though she was lying about being fine. She didn't want to confide in anyone about the dream she had had. Not yet anyways. Perhaps there was some place she would be able to decipher the dreams meaning, though she was left unsure about it. Following closely behind Morgenstern, it wasn't long before the Night's King's Fortress was behind the two of them. Even though she had practically been carried through this quest, it still felt good to have participated in a more exhilarating battle. Hopefully she could feel that same exhilaration when she made it to the front lines. She knew it would be a ways out until then, but for now she would be able to level up in peace. If there was more players like this out there she figured she could be taken on quests that were slightly out of her own difficulty range. With that, she would be able to save some of the easier quests to do when there were other beginner's around. The feeling of hope mixed with the dread her dream gave her, resulting in a rather perplexing look on her face while she trudged through the freshly laid snow.

The girl would nod her head to him, but with her silence and his unfamiliarity with the girl he wasn't sure what that meant. With his closer friends such as Itzal, he could tell what they meant by just seeing his eyes and facial expressions. He would turn back around. Keeping his eyes out for the monsters that prowled the frozen floor. While monsters typically avoided places with higher leveled players, Neo might attract them with her level. He looked down, seeing the snow-covered roofs of buildings in the distance. 'We are almost there. It was a fun adventure and it was good to get out.' he told himself. He turned his head back over to Neo, something behind her catching his eye. A player with an orange cursor watched them from a distant tree. It was hard to make out many of their details. Had he been Itzal with increase sight capabilities, he might be able to make more details out. All he managed to get out, was that they were wearing black, some kind of armor or mask covering their face and a long weapon at their side, undrawn. Jonathan's face would tighten, a shadow appearing over his face. The player was just watching them, unmoving. Were they going to attack them?

Trying to get away, he looked to Neo and he quietly warned, "Pick up the pace. We aren't alone... Don't run though, if they are actually going to attack then if we run they will begin to run after us" Was the player's plan to just pick off some lower leveled players?

(OOC: sorry for the wait, totally forgot to respond to this. I can be such a ditz)

Neo followed closely behind Morgenstern as the two walked back towards town. It was nice to finally be going back there and being done with the quest. Though the vision had been disturbing her, it still wasn't too bad for her to think about. If anything, it was strange. She couldn't tell what it was meaning, but it felt as though there was a reason for it. Just as she was trying to interpret what it meant, Morgenstern told her to pick up the pace. Not wanting to actually see what was behind her, she just trusted him and began to walk quickly, staying close to him and her hand close to her rapier. If it was a monster, he would have likely told her and probably turned around to take it out quickly. That meant it could very well be an orange player. Whatever it was, she decided it would be best to listen to them as closely as possible. Morgenstern had given her no reason not to trust her, and the town was still quite close. If he did turn on her, she could probably make a break for it without too much trouble. The only issue would be to make sure she didn't die in one hit.

Neo would listen, keeping quiet and moving faster. They were less that 200 meters from the safezone. If he could just move them into that area, than Neo would be safe. He looked back to the spot, and found nothing. "Wait a second. It's gone!" Jonathan spun in a circle, unable to spot the player that had just stared at him moments ago. "Where the hell did that player go, I could have sworn tha-" He finished his circle and was now a foot away form the player. They must've been using the Hide Skill to conceal them self from his trained eyes. He leapt backward as a long red blade would uppercut towards his face. The blade nicked his nose, the player's arm now in the position to thrust its sword into his chest. However, the player wouldn't. Instead, they would return their sword to a prepared position. Close u, he could guess the player was female, but that didn't cover the terrifying presence that she brought. Jonathan placed his hand on the hilt of his weapon. "Return your weapon to your sheath and leave or I'm afraid I won't be able to let you stand much longer" He was unknowing to her power, but she seemed well skilled with her weapon. Some players were better with using weapons even if their stats were lower. With quick precision and speed, Neo would vanish in front of him. He couldn't let that happen. He would place a hand in front of Neo. The player guarded the way to the town. He would have to find some way to get Neo around.

"Tough words" A voice would rasp. "How long can you keep a pretense like this, Morgenstern. The time you have ticks short, is it wise to let another person close before we rip it away?" The woman's voice was low and raspy, almost like a taunting whisper. "I don't know what you are talking about, who are you and what do you want!" The figure would ignore  his words and focus on Neo. "Such a pretty little girl. I hate that" She was the most direct of all the Sins. Other than Orik, her words were most to the point. Unlike Orik however, a blade normally followed her words. She twisted her hand, slashing with her sword. The weapon was aimed towards the girl's neck.

Jonathan's heart pounded against his chest. He had to stay under control. Perhaps he could get this player away or negotiate to get Neo out of the situation. Then, the woman attacked without hesitation. Jonathan yanked his weapon out of his sheath, his blade just having enough time to deflect it away from Neo. He would stand in front of Neo. "Attack me as you please, but once you attack my friends, I draw the line. I won't be letting you leave". He held his sword in front of him with two hands, preparing for a block and counter. "Neo, once I knock her away, sprint as fast as you can towards the town. Don't stop til you cross the gates. Don't have them send anyone out. It was a nice time meeting you maybewe can go get some icecream again soon?" He spoke as if he wasn't even worried of the girl in front him. It was a trick to unnerve the opponent.

"As for you" he told the woman. "I'm not letting you leave before you answer some questions for me!"

Neo was trying to walk quickly, her height making that difficult without being obvious. When Morgenstern suddenly stopped. It wasn't long before she was being shielded by him as he talked with what appeared to be a female orange player. Things went by in a blur, and Neo just tried not to be noticed. It seemed as though Morgenstern had had previous encounters with this person, and it seemed they were not on the best of terms. The woman complimented her looks, though it felt like it was a hollow compliment. As the two began to fight, Neo looked around for an opening to run, and Morgenstern guided her as much. She wasn't sure if he was able to see her nod in agreement, but was waiting for the chance to run. Though she had no quavering voice to show it, she was scared of the situation. Hopefully there wouldn't be another death on her hands from players guarding her. She stood and waited for an opening, either to run or for an attack. Both would be opportune for her.

Jonathan stood, prepared with his own sword and shield. He had never heard of this player before, so he was unaware on her combat ability. Judging from her last attack, she was definitely not a lower leveled player and was quite proficient with her weapon. 'Well, as long as I can get Neo out of here...' He thought to himself. He allowed his in game energy bar to trickle into the entirety of his avatar. While it was an expensive use of his energy, he would just have to use it like that until Neo was gone. "NOW!" he would shout to Neo. Stepping forward, he would begin to slash towards the player killer. She would block his weapon, but as soon as she did he would burst into a flurry of attacks. One after another long strokes would strike across her weapon. Each blow had enough force to cause a small gust of wind in his forward direction, pushing his opponent back.  As his initial assault would end, the black garbed player would return a volley of powerful attacks, Jonathan making sure to block them with his shield. It was obvious that he had much more defense than her, and most of her skills focused on dealing damage.

With Neo far enough away that she would be safe, Jonathan would grin. "Well, it seems you failed". A laughing noise would emit from behind the mask. "I never had a mission to succeed or fail, Morgenstern" Jonathan frowned. "How do you know my name?" The player killed would strike with her weapon, an electric shock emitting from it and a nasty cut would appear with red shards flowing freely out of it. "Paralysis and Bleed" The player killer would step back. "You haven't fallen?" Jonathan would chuckle. "I'm guessing even though you seem to know me, you don't know anything about my stats and skills. I am immune to that" The masked woman would sheathe her katana and unlatch a blue crystal from her belt. "We'll be seeing eachother soon enough, do you think?" Jonathan charged. "You have questions to answer first!" He would swipe his weapon, but it would pass through empty air.

Neo was waiting for her moment, but watched as Morgenstern's energy trickled into nothing. He was burning everything while she stood there frozen once more. He managed to lash out into a large attack and Neo began to run. She didn't look back until she was in the town boundaries. The snow was crunching underneath her feet as she did what she could to get there as fast as possible. Once the gates were behind her, she turned around to see the it was only Morgenstern was standing there. She didn't know if he had killed her or if she got away. Either way, she waited at the gates for him to come up. If he did come to her, she would walk with him and make sure he was doing ok. otherwise, she planned to make her way to the portal after turning in the quest. Their objective was done and she was safe. At least she wouldn't have another death on her account.
