[PP-F4] Returning To The Lake (Avalanche) <COMPLETE>

Recommended Posts

The trickiest part of crossing Truckee Lake's mostly frozen waters is to really determine if this part of the ice is fragile or not, and it is quite time consuming if one's ears are not trained to hear even the slightest cracks. Kioshi's way of crossing is to slowly walk with his toe while covering a big distance between his legs to advance slightly faster. Every time his toe lands on the ice, he does so slowly and stops to listen. To ensure that he can hear properly, he had taken off his full helmet and holds onto it.

So far, the crossing goes on well, and after minutes of careful trekking, Kioshi is close to the edge of the other side, near the snowy base of the mountain. He stops and slowly turns around to check on the female player, thinking that her job is probably easier due to her lightweight body...though that dragon looks like it should be monitored in case it is paranoid of the ice breaking out of nowhere.

Following Kioshi, Neo began to make her way across the ice. She was a bit more wary about it than before, having it crack on her earlier. She pushed the feeling of searching towards hger dragon, prompting it to take off once more in search of their adversary. It also served the purpose of getting the dragon's weight off of her. She was light and small enough that it likely didn't matter that its weight was on her shoulders. It was more just the uncontrolled shift of it that was making her worry. Thankfully, the thing could fly for quite a while without the need to rest. She hadn't really tested just how far it could go though.

One day, we need to test your limits. We need to find where you can go and were you can't. Once we have that figured out, we can start working on getting you even better. I doubt I'll ever find something to replace you, but it's best to make sure that there is no issue with it.

The ground suddenly rumbles as he is on a slope on the mountain, a bit steep, but at least the footing is still tolerable. Drawing out his sword and adjusting his helmet, Kioshi remains still as he looks around, his hands gripping the handle tightly as he tries his best to see if the snow is being dug from underground or something.

Then, a rumble. Followed by a large mass of snow bursting a few meters away from his front. Kioshi shields the visor with his arm briefly until the mass disappears, and slowly moves his arm away...only to find the objective itself.

A hulking, two legged ice golem stands in front of Kioshi, its eyes staring deeply into his soul. As suggested by its name, 'Ice Elemental', its entire body consists of ice...or rather...icebergs, as it looks like someone taking icebergs apart and put them all together into a single object that barely shapes like a humanoid. The blizzard increases slightly at its presence, as if it is setting up the arena between the elemental and the two players.

Without warning, the elemental suddenly stomps its giant foot onto the ground, causing small harmful ice crystals to stick out of the ground and heading towards Kioshi. He notices this and quickly dodges, his sword glows dark green in color as he takes a swing against its attacking leg in succession, cutting off a chunk of ice from it. The elemental lets out a bellow without opening its mouth, the battlefield shakes for a few seconds thanks to the sound's intensity.

Neo turns towards a rumbling that begins as she feels it in her bones. As the massive  pile of snow stands up from the ground, she can't help but feel it is a bit bigger than the last time she was here. Maybe it had just spawned and hadn't shed off some snow or maybe it was actually just bigger this time around, she didn't care. What did matter was that she took it down as quickly as she could. She quickly lunged forward after it unleashed its attack, stabbing it multiple times and working her way behind it. She was worried it might remember her from last time, and decided it would be best to play it safe and look for the weak spots she had found last time. She would prefer to burst it down, but it would be better to stay alive instead. She hoped Kioshi may have the same mentality.

The snow falls like scattered white ashes of a destroyed building as Kioshi watches the girl using her own Sword Art against the Ice Elemental, her blade stabbing through multiple spots of its body, particularly its weak spots. It lets out a bellow that again shakes the arena, except the sound gets louder, and further more might cause an avalanche if it wants too. But Kioshi ain't gonna let that happen again. If he can get away from the previous disaster, he can do so again. If only his sword is stronger to quickly kill this vermin. No matter for now.

His Zweihander glows again as he takes a big swing towards the elemental's head, it hits more like a club than a real sword due to its hardened, icy skin. Still, the impact is strong enough to hurt it, and it backs away as it tries to shoot icy projectiles towards Kioshi, whom dodges said attack. He and the girl are halfway there now. If both manage to use their Sword Arts until they run out of energy it would be likely enough to kill this monster.

Kioshi can only hope, glancing at her for a split second through the visor.

Neo prepares to attack the beast again when it starts to let out a sort of bellow. She doesn't know why, but it starts a screeching ring in her ears. She drops her blade to cover them, trying to get rid of the noise. Her attempts don't do much though, only serving to drown any sound but the ringing. It finally subsides whenKioshi manages to strike the beast. Neo reaches for her blade again, careful to keep the monster's back to her. If she can find those weak spots again, she would be able to take this thing down much quicker. For now, she just hoped that it didn't realease another scream. That last one felt like it would've deafened her in the real world.

It does seem to be adapting, letting out some sort of attack that prevents sudden attacks from behind. I need to end this quickly before it learns more. I need to make sure that this is possible for other players to take down as well.

Just as Kioshi fears, a small avalanche bursts from the mountain's summit and rolls down towards where he stands. Gritting his teeth in his full helmet, he quickly rolls to his right in an attempt to dodge the white, blinding and suffocating clouds only to have himself being kicked by the Ice Elemental. His armored back lands against a stone, putting some forceful impact against it like a mace. Kioshi struggles to stand up slowly as he notices his health slightly decreasing.

So now he can't approach the elemental easily. While pondering what to do next, the monster makes its way to its target, ignoring the female who is now trying to attack him again.

Quickly, quickly! His mind screams as he almost stumbles upon standing on two legs. It's only a minor wound, he had gone worse than this.

With blade in hand, Neo realizes that the beast is going for the old man once again. Though it was nice for it to be off of her, she knew that he couldn't hold up forever. She quickly scanned him for the weak spot she had found last time.

There. That's where I can make you hurt.

It was a small crack in the ice on his back. She lunged forward and began her sword art. She knew that he would be guarding that spot passively, so she sent the first strike at his back swinging arm, interrupting the blow. She followed it up with a stab to the opposite leg. Knowing that the beast would be trying to defend from the stabs, she gave a third one at the other leg and then put the fourth one higher up into that crack. The beast, expecting a lower strike, had left its weak spot completely open to her. It didn't take long, but she was able to get it to freeze up and watched as the health bar near it began to drain.

And that's why you don't ignore the silent ones.

A blast of bright bluish light appears out of the Ice Elemental's back as it roars in great pain, dropping onto its knees as its weak point is aggressively attacked by the girl's Sword Art. Such a great advantage for Kioshi to see her knowledge regarding its kill switch. Like a hardcover guidebook of Sword Art Online, realization strikes in his head as he notices some sort of bluish liquid spurting out of its back like a jet of fountain. A bleeding effect. Who would have thought it would work on a solid creature like this abomination.

The Ice Elemental drops to the ground and disintegrates into polygons, a window immediately comes up telling both fighters that they receive a Snowfrost from the monster. Useful when protecting themselves with fire...but to Kioshi it is the opposite to him. He isn't going to deal with fire breathing dragons or torch wielding goblins for the time being. He just dismisses the window and stares at the lake's landscape. The intense wind is dying down.

With the beast finally down, Neo brushed what little sweat she accrued in these frigid temperatures off of her brow. Though it was tougher than the last time she fought it, it certainly wasn't that hard. The two of them were able to take it down handily and Neo was able to keep someone alive again. With one death already on her hands, she didn't want to add another. She dismissed the rewards screen, thinking of likely selling the reward. She already had one and it was very unlikely she would use that other. It was possible that there would be a flame centric floor where she would want to have the reduction, though she didn't think there would be one anytime soon with the current state that the floors were in. She decided against selling it though, she could possibly use it later and didn't want to take away the opportunity for someone else to come take down this boss just so that she could get another one of these items.

Sheathing his sword back into its scabbard, Kioshi quickly descends down the mountain back to the lake, walks across the ice, and soon arrives at the campsite, not stopping to take a breather or even looking back to see if the girl is alright or catching up. The mountain up there is cold enough to make him brush off the thought of finding a treasure chest there. All he wants to do is to go back into the city and just fall into a slumber for the rest of the day on a warm bed.

As for the girl, he has no worries about her, knowing that she can obviously take care of herself. There is nothing he can give to reward her since he doesn't receive any extra COL in both fights today. At least he is glad to be alive in front of her again.

The blizzard is starting to act up again as he enters the local inn in the main settlement. Stripping off his armor and sword belt in the room he rented since yesterday, he lies down onto the bed and closes his eyes, reality becomes dreams as he explores his own childhood, up to his current age prior to his new life in Aincrad. A sad dream, but he knows that his disease isn't a major concern anymore. There are other things to worry about here, like monsters and backstabbers.

And also his boredom outside fights, if he ever feels that way sooner or later.
