[F01- SP] Aggressive Gardening «Secret Medicine of the Forest»

Recommended Posts

Cosi straightened up and groaned as he did so. That fight took a bit more out of him. Not health wise- no he was at full health still thanks to Rose Gold- but energy wise his bar wasn't even a fifth full.

Still, it wasn’t too long before two more nepents hopped out of the bushes. I swear these things just keep coming, Cosi shook his head, if I could just get the medicine and leave. Cosi brought his sword and shield, ready for the upcoming fight.

The first nepent that made an attack at Cosi, Cosi simply cut off the vine like appendage then thrust Messer into its gut at least where it’s gut should be. The thing screamed and scuttled back. The bad thing about focusing on one opponent is that you forget about the others. Just as the first nepent retreated. Cosi felt something wrap around his feet. The second plant creature yanked Cosi off his feet. Cosi hit his chin on the ground, nearly biting off his tongue. It hurt but not too bad mostly just surprised him.

Cosi slashed backwards with his sword, really just trying to get the nepent to release him. Once he felt its hold loosening, he quickly scrambled to his feet and saw the first nepent coming in for another attack. Cosi raised his shield, careful this time to position himself so he could see both of the plant monsters. He swung a diagonal slash at the first nepent, hoping to deal a little more damage to it. The cut connected and connected hard. The nepent was pushed back with the force of Cosi's swing and shrieked in pain. It swung haphazardly with its tendrils, Cosi merely ducked under the attack and then turned over to the second nepent which was currently attacking. Cosi ducked behind his shield and hoped the metal would stop the attack. it did, the tendrils bouncing harmlessly off of Rose Gold. I'm so glad I got this new shield, Cosi thought to himself. Then one snaked around and it’s spikes caught him in the arm. So Cosi responded in turn and smashed Rose Gold into the creature knocking it back.

Cosi watched the second nepent disintegrate into particles and just on time Cosi heard the variant Nepent crash through the undergrowth. Let’s get this over with, Cosi gripped his sword and moved in to attack. Cosi rushed the big nepent before it had actually cleared the bushes and trees and had gotten into the same clearing Cosi had been fighting in all this time. He slashed at the variant nepent and while he connected the monster’s armor of bark and thorns deflected most of the damage. Still he cut the fibrous flesh and when that happened the gold runes on Messer flashed. The nepent stiffened and nearly fell back into the bushes. Cosi watched the monster as it sporadically twitched but not like it’s previous fellows. It seemed like it was immobile or.. paralyzed. Realization dawned on Cosi. Messer had a slot of paralyze on it, he just hadn’t seen the effect take place right. That must be what happened now.

Cosi watched his enemy twitch and writhe, unable to respond, attack, or defend. This should make things easier, Cosi thought to himself as he prepared to strike the immobilized nepent a second time. He thrust downward into its twitching body and again while his attack did a small amount damage most of the force of the strike was mitigated by the natural armor of thorns and bark the nepent had. Cosi scowled. This fight would be a lot longer than the others. Still he needed that medicinal herb, the ovule, so he could give it to the townsfolk. He prepared to strike again when suddenly the nepent got back up. Seems the paralysis has worn of, Cosi though as he hurriedly back away from the nepent's vine whips. Looks he'd have to do this the hard way where his enemy was trying to kill him as well. The fight was back on.

Cosi hefted Rose Gold, his shield, ready to block the variant nepent's upcoming attack. The plant creature's vine like arms whipped through the air, forcing Cosi to take cover behind his shield. He pushed closer to the monster, feeling the buffets of tendrils on his shield, then once he was within measure he through a mittelhau and the variant nepent hoping to get some more chip damage in. But the thing evaded his blow, lurching away on its multiple tentacle legs. It then swung back with one of its thorny appendages, aiming right at Cosi's face. Cosi quickly side stepped but he brought up Rose Gold just ward away the attack. Cosi maneuvered around the large nepent hoping to catch a glimpse of a weak spot or something to exploit. The flower atop the nepent followed him like a sun flower follows the light of the sun but Cosi hoped this aggressive vegetation wouldn't use him as a source of nutrients.

As Cosi circled the variant nepent, ducking under the slashing vine tendrils and hunkering behind his shield, he looked for any opening to counter attack. The creature always flailed its spiked tentacles wildly forcing Cosi to stay at a distance and utilize Rose Gold as protection. But if he could just get close enough he could strike at the monster, not that it would do much with its armor. Then Cosi saw something. A spot on the nepent's back, pale and white, uncovered by the hard armor of thorny bark. If I could get close enough to that spot, Cosi thought as he blocked another tendril away, i could do some serious damage. So once he saw an opening in the wildly swinging vine arms Cosi charged for the spot. He swung for the weak spot but the nepent quickly turned to face him, taking the slash across its armored torso, and struck him its spiked tendrils. Cosi desperately brought up his shield but to no avail. The tentacles wove around Cosi's defenses, even his armor, plunging into the unprotected flesh of his legs, chest and neck. Cosi stumbled back, pain flooding his system and the soft whine only he could hear sounding in his head. That had been a lot of damage, though he already felt Rose Gold repairing hi wounds. He'd have to be more careful.

And it looked like it would continue that way. Cosi couldn't get past the barrage of slashing vine like whips and even when he could evade their thorns and get close, all he would be swing at was air. The variant nepent was too damn quick even for a creature of its size. Cosi cursed under his breath as he brought Rose Gold up to deflect another attack by the swinging tendrils of the nepent. He swore that the rewards for this quest better make up for all the trouble he had to go through to get the healing herb. He had to kill so many of these nepents he had stopped counting. Okay so it wasn’t that large of an amount but still it had hit double digits. He ducked under another thorned tendril and deflected a second. Plus these nepents never go down easy for how tough they are, Cosi thought too himself. If he could just hit this last one in its weak spot Cosi was sure that would finish it off.

Cosi tried to brute force his way though the vine arms and tried to strike at the weak spot because at this point in the fight Cosi did not care if he got hit. Besides these plant things didn’t hit hard at all.

Sadly Cosi couldn’t get through the assault of tendrils. He backed up quickly tried to evad the thorns and block any with his fancy shield that he couldn’t dodge. This fight was really at an impass. The nepent variant couldn’t hit Cosi but Cosi could not for the life of him hit the plant monster either. This fight just kept dragging on and on and on. Cosi really wanted to help those poor, sick, virtual towns folk but even he had a limit and countless plant creature bent on slashing him to bits with tentacle arms just might be the limit. But still he tried.

If I could just hit that weak spot once.

Cosi maneuvered around the variant nepent, almost danced around him, trying to confuse that ever watchful flower. The nepent didn’t even have eyes. Just a ghastly oversized mouth and that dumb twitchy flower that Cosi swore watched his every move. Cosi bobbed and weaved for a couple seconds longer before making a break towards the undefended area. He threw up his shield for protection and swung with his sword hoping to be fast enough so the creepy vegetation had no time to scurry away on its tentacle legs.

Alas the damn plant monster was to quick and jumped out of the way of Cosi’s attack. Cosi tried to do the same and evad the creature’s follow up counter strike but thorn pierced his armor and threw Cosi off balance. Luckily Cosi was able to stabilize and bring to bare his shield so he didn’t take any more unnecessary pricks from the thing’s tendrils.

After feeling Rose Gold repair his small nick, Cosi tried one more time to get past the nepent variant’s speed and swinging tendrils to get a shot at hitting the thing’s weak spot. All he wanted to do was kill this tenacious plant, get the bulb ovule thing, and then get back to the town of NPCs so they could be healed. Again Cosi charged in deflecting and redirecting the bombardment of spiked tendrils.  And again the thing avoided Cosi’s strike at its unprotected side and scuttled away while making an attack of its own which Cosi of course blocked with his shield the blows raining down with no real damage. Cosi sighed as he stepped out of range of the nepent’s tentacles. He regarded the creature. Cosi was exhausted and while the creature had no face for Cosi to read he could tell the monster was tired by how it’s tendrils drooped and how the flower on top of it didn’t move around as much. This fight had gone on long enough.

Cosi dove back into the fray with somewhat renewed vigor. All he wanted was to finish this fight, and he had plenty of drive to do that. It was just neither of the combatants seemed to be able to hit their opponent. Which annoyed Cosi to no end. So he attacked the living plant, no longer caring about the weak spot, just hoping to nick it again. He swung a mittelhau at the monster hoping to connect. And for the first time it seemed like in eternity, Cosi's attack hit the variant nepent. Most of the damage was absorbed by the thorn armor but still it hurt him slightly. It really must be slowing down from exhaustion, cause normally it would evade such a telegraphed attack, Cosi though to himself as he retreated under the nepent's swinging vine arms. He was able to easily block or evade the blows, which seemed to prove that nepent was a lot more tired then Cosi. And Cosi was exhausted.

Cosi pressed his advantage, moving in for another strike. He ducked under a thorny vine arm and struck out with Messer, again hoping this plant thing was too tired to avoid the blow, because while it did have a thick bark like armor if Cosi's blows connected he got in chip damage. If the thing evaded his strikes, no dice.

Good news was that it was too tired to avoid Cosi's strike and his blade scored a strike across its torso. Bad news was Cosi was also too tired to avoid the variant nepent's strike and was subjected to a brutal blow. Again the plant's thorn covered vine arms snaked around and through all of Cosi's defenses- even his armor- and the spines sank deep into his unprotected flesh. Cosi felt a small cry of pain forced out of his throat and he quickly backed out of striking distance. The blow had been painful but not deadly, besides Cosi had Rose Gold to heal him.

Cosi waited until he felt the cool warmth of healing wash over him then he moved to attack again. He had to finish this fight soon. Not because he was in danger of dying. Simply because he had long outgrown his stay in this gloomy forest and was tired of fighting these nepents. Cosi charged the variant nepent, holding Rose Gold aloft to block any attacks, none came. Cosi then realized the thing was paralyzed from Messer's enhancement. So Cosi lowered his shield, waltzed up to the immobilized, and then once he was close enough he thrust with Messer to score another blow against the plant creature. The living plant writhed as the runes on Messer flashed gold again. The blade must have paralyzed the poor creature again. Which Cosi was completely fine with since it meant the nepent variant couldn't attack Cosi back. So while it was still slow going at least Cosi didn't have to avoid all the swing vines and tendrils.

Cosi took advantage of the plant monster's immobilized state and lay into it with his blade slashing as much as he could as hard as he could before the thing started moving again. Unfortunately, as soon as Cosi struck at the beast it was suddenly freed from its paralysis and scuttled out of the way of Cosi's attacks. Cosi cursed and backed up again as the plant creature's tentacles struck out at him, hissing through the air like snakes. Cosi brought up his shield to block them and rewarded by the sounds of tendrils thumping against Rose Gold's durable surface. Looks like this fight just got difficult again, Cosi thought to himself as he looked at the now moving nepent and wildly slashing vine arms. Cosi sighed but he had already resigned to finish this quest no matter how long it took. Or how many darn plant creatures he had to turn into compost. He gripped Messer and thought, I wish I had a weed wacker or a lawn mower for this fight.

Now that he was forced to be wary of the nepent's movements Cosi had to duck and weave past the slashing vines to get near the damn plant monster. But he got near enough to slash at it. Well only near enough to reach so if the living plant scuttled away on its tentacle legs it would be far out of reach. Which is exactly what the nepent variant did. Its legs worked furiously as it quickly backed away from the steel blade of Messer- probably didn't want to get paralyzed again- then it attacked in turn. Cosi ducked as the tendrils flew towards him. He then dropped to the ground and rolled away as the nepent tried to slam the spiked appendages down on Cosi. Cosi jumped to his feet with a good chuck of effort- goodness he was tired- and brought up his shield just  in case of another attack.

Cosi shook his head, stood up, and brushed the dirt off of him. What did I just trip on? Cosi thought to himself as he crouched down and began pushing fronds and leaves away, searching of the culprit. He moved some branches of a bush and there he saw, half buried in the ground of the forest: a treasure chest. Surprised beyond belief, Cosi quickly dug it out of the ground with his hands as he smiled at his good luck. The chest was unadorned except for iron reinforced edges and three clasps keeping it closed. Cosi knelt down by the chest and opened the first two clasps. He breathed out, hoping for something good inside the chest and undid the last clasp. The clasp clicked and the chest slowly opened up. The inside of the chest shined with a bright golden light that figuratively and literally warmed Cosi. Cosi looked inside but saw nothing except the light. He was confused for a second until his menu popped open with a ding. It said he had found: 150 Col, 8 materials, a set of perfect heavy armor, and two rare consumables. Cosi blinked. He liked treasure chests.

After finding the treasure chest, Cosi rested for a little while then continued searching for some more nepents. He still needed that herb for the towns people so he couldn't quit the quest just yet, even though he had just found some sweet loot. Now he would have some more items to identify back at his shop on floor four, which more experience. He smiled as he looked for the nasty sentient plant monsters. Things were looking up. He had just found a treasure chest full of some good loot, and he was feeling quite energized. Energized enough to fight another twelve of the nepents. The thing was he didn't see any of the walking celery sticks. Strange, Cosi scratched his head, they had been teeming in that are by the clearing. I wonder if I've killed all of the spawned mobs and have to wait for them all to respawn? That would suck. Cosi kept looking. He was sure there would be more of the things in the forest. I wonder if there are any other mobs in this forest. That thought unsettled Cosi. It was bad enough having the nepents in the forest he didn't want to stumble upon any other monsters.

Cosi was still looking for some nepents when he heard a branch break behind him. Cosi spun around, sword drawn, and lo and behold there were two regular nepents. "Trying to sneak up on me, eh? You'll have to try harder than that" Cosi charged the two nepents. He swung a quick diagonal cut at the first one, surprising it- again the evil sentient vegetables didn't show emotion Cosi just guessed- and slashing it across the torso. The second tried to entangle Cosi with its thorny tendrils, something he did not want so he quickly backed up and warded off the attack with Rose Gold. Then he turned his attention back to the plant monster he had just wounded just in time to see one of its vines coming straight for him. Cosi tried to step back and avoid the spikes but he was a hair too slow and the nepent scored a hit across his face. A cool wave of healing instantly washed over him: Cosi loved his fancy shield.

Cosi had always loved playing a tank in video games because when you had an insane amount of armor it didn't matter how much damage he did or how much damage his opponents did: He could tank whatever they threw at him and he could just chip away at them till they died. So that's why he was playing the good old sword and shield style in sao rpg. Though a good dps build was always fun.

Cosi turned his attention back to the monsters before him. Time to get back to killing weeds. He swung his sword at the first nepent again hoping to finish it off then turn his sole attention on the second one. Sadly, and frustratingly, the nepent was able to scurry out of the way and avoid Cosi's attack. Cosi then had to evade the second plant monster would had charged him and was trying to take his head off. He managed to duck out of that attacks way but then he felt a sting as the first nepent's tentacles struck Cosi in the back. He winced only slightly and turned around to thrust Messer into its torso. The thing screamed as it clawed at the sword embedded in its chest and it slowly turned to red dust. One weed dead, one more to go, Cosi congratulated himself. Cosi then turned to focused on the last weed standing, Time to die Celery.

Before Celery-Cosi barely realized he had just given the nepent a name which was really weird- could attack, Cosi swung powerful mittelhau at it, trying not only to destabilize the monster but also hopefully cut it in half because the normal nepents did not have the thick bark armor of the flowered variety. Cosi's strike cut straight through empty air as the monster jumped and scrambled away from Cosi. Cosi cursed Celery and his fast reflexes but the wouldn't keep him alive for long because Gardener Cosi, Destroyer of Weeds was here now and when the Gardener came all plants obeyed. Okay i think I've been spending too much time in this forest. The vegetation must be getting to me. Cosi shuddered then had to quickly dodge out of the way as Celery's vine arms hissed through the air. "Hey! Watch it Celery! That nearly hit me!" Oh god now I'm talking to a plant. And the plant was trying to kill him too. Cosi really had been in this forest too long.
