[PP] [F01] The Blacksmithing Path «Earning a Living»

Recommended Posts

Kiro has returned to the main area of the Town of the Beginnings with no injuries. His training session seemed to be going quite well, but it was time to change paces and to do something else that would result to be more interesting. He had been hearing rumors about quests that you could do to earn a profession, and that was something that would help him in the future. For example, if he became a blacksmith, he could make his own equipment and no longer worry about paying people to make him items. Plus, the child would also be helping others that decided to come for a visit to get new pieces of equipment that would support them in their adventures. He couldn’t help it but to imagine himself making a strong blade that he would get the chance to call. “I’m really looking forward to it,” he mumbled to himself, looking back to his current blade and sighing. Truth to be told, he knew his current equipment pieces would make it hard to defend himself against stronger threats so it was something he had to work on for the sake of completing his dream.

The blue-haired child took a step inside of the town, heading to the quest board and reading more about this profession quest. From what he could tell, depending on what you wanted to be, you had to do to different places. Kiro nodded his head once, marking the spot where he needed to go on his map with the exact coordinates and started to head over there with a gentle smile drawn on his face. The boy didn’t take long to reach the place, avoiding instances that would normally distract him but making sure to enjoy the sights this world provided to him. He didn't want to stay in this world but, at the same moment, he did because he could potentially be a different person. However, his objective was already set and was yet to be completed. The kid stood next to the door, gathering all of his might to open the door. In other terms, he was trying to find the best moment to push it wide open.

Cosi was just walking through the Town of Beginnings, he had come back down from floor four for a quest, when around the central hub of the town he noticed a blue haired kid standing before a blacksmith shop. He did not know why but his gut was telling him to talk to this kid. So he did. "Hey kid. Hi there. My name's Cosi." Cosi would approach and hold out his hand. "You planning on buying some gear cause I know a better shop. Or are you starting that earning a living quest?" As Cosi waited for a response, he wondered how old this kid was and how long he had been really playing this game. He can't be more than first level but then again I was hardly more than first level a little while ago. Cosi shrugged his shoulders. "If you want I could give you some help with the quest. I've done it myself but not the blacksmith one. I'm a merchant"

Kiro closed his eyes, knowing that he had to do it to advance in this death or life game where he was putting everything on the battlefield. He had to become stronger, and to learn how to forge weapons that would guide him in this world that people considered to be cursed. The blue-haired child gulped, raising his head lightly and opening his eyes, taking a step closer to the entrance of the building. Just before he could plant his hand on the wooden door, a voice spoke to him from behind! It sounded like an adult, and surely like someone that was honest and nice. The boy flashed a gentle smile, bowing his head respectfully to the man. “My name is Kiro, and it is a pleasure to meet you,” he declared, clearing his throat lightly before continuing to speak. “I’m here to take on the «Earning a Living» quest, and I would appreciate your help, mister Cosi,” he added, giggling. The golden-haired man was a merchant, so they could work together! For example, the boy could make weapons and sell them to him for a reasonable price and to which he’d be glad to work with him. Kiro shook his head, looking forward to the building and pushed the door wide open. “Hopefully, the NPC handing out the quest is a nice person,” he whispered faintly, struggling to hold the same smile after his comment.

After the kid responded in the affirmative Cosi moved past him and entered the blacksmith shop. "Awesome! Let's get going then." Cosi cracked a smile, he was just making friends all over the place today. "Also don't worry about the quest giving NPCs in this game. They are all really nice. Just like any NPCs in your run of the mill rpg." Cosi frowned slightly. "They're kind of annoying that way, no real dimension  to them."  Cosi shrugged and went to go sit down in the corner of the shop and wait for the kid to accept the quest. He was not going to take it because he was happy as a merchant and had barely scratched the surface of what that profession had to offer. The blacksmith shop looked and smelled just like any other: arms and armor hung from the walls, the wood seemed to be imbued with the smell of smoke, and the room was a little hot and stuffy from the forge. The gear was no where as nice as Macradon's though.

Kiro turned around before entering and nodded his head to the adult, excitedly playing with his fingers. Cosi moved past him and took the initiative on entering the shop, clarifying his thoughts by explaining the behavior of the NPCs. His voice sounded to confident that he couldn't help himself but to think about sending him a friend request. However, there was something he had to do and sending a friendship request could wait for later. Truth to be told, the boy wasn’t sure if the taller teenager saw him as a friend or not but thought that it would not take him long to figure that out as time went on during their adventure. The blue-haired child took a short breath and silently approached the NPC with a serious and determined look on his face, but trying not to laugh at his comment about RPGs.

He would make sure to do that after accepting it, for sure! “Good morning, sir. Is there something I could help you with?” He questioned the adult with a respectful tone of voice, his face shifting in something more of a smile. He wasn’t tense any more, so it helped to progress the course of the conversation. The blacksmith explained to him what he needed to do to earn this profession, and the boy accepted without thinking about it twice. “Well, well. Now, go to the southern forest. You will easily find many pieces of materials there,” spoke the man, waving them off. Before leaving, though, Kiro took a mere second to glance over this place; it was a paradise of armory! He never imagined himself holding a hammer and forging a sword until recently, and that was something good! Or so he thought! “Mister Cosi, we should leave now,” he declared, locking his eyes onto the door and exiting the building while dropping a single sweat. He was surely nervous during their conversation, but that tense feeling was now long gone.

Cosi spasmed slightly as the kid’s-Kiroo was his name right?- voice woke him up before he could actually go to sleep. Cosi shook his head. He had just been resting his eyes. He had been just a little tired from running up and down from floor four and his shop. “Huh- wha? Oh yeah, let’s go... Where are we going? Something about a forest?” Cosi got up out of the chair he had been leaning back in, stretched out of his arms, popped his back and neck which cracked multiple times, and headed out of the blacksmith shop to follow the blue haired kid wherever he was going. Hopefully, this quest would be easily completed and would not go like Cosi’s own earning a living quest. That had been a long and grilling experience. Cosi hated boars now. But Cosi had faith that this kid’s quest would go a lot better than his own

Kiro turned around for a second, noticing that the adult was asleep until his voice reached him and made him jump in surprise. The blue-haired child sighed in disbelief, unable to tell if he was just acting to make him feel bad or if he was actually tired and wanted to go rest. He offered to help him and didn’t seem like there was something he needed to do first, like resting in an Inn. The golden man replied to him and stretched his body while cracking some of his limbs before beginning to follow him outside of the shop, most likely believing that he was going to lead the way. The boy had no choice but to do what the man wanted, as he didn't want to get lost in the wilderness and encounter powerful opponents. He exited the gigantic city through the gates, disabling the safe zone of the area and heading into what could possibly mean danger.

Truth to be told, Kiro wasn’t scared because he didn’t feel like there was a reason to. There was a male behind him, whom he trusted his back to. The kid wanted to believe that the tall but slim teenager could potentially protect him from any threats. While he did want to do that to the older male, he lacked of strength and power to do that, which is why he head into the forest. He continued to walk across the path that was leading him to the southern forest where he could finally begin his quest. Once they were deep inside of the area, the child looked around, scanning the area cautiously while also seeking for something that would help him progress through his quest. His eyes locked on into a bright item, stuck in the ground. “I think that’s a material,” he whispered to himself, proceeding to approach the area where he saw it. Unfortunately, the kid didn't find anything and sighed, moving to another spot.

Cosi followed behind the kid as the pair of them headed outside of the city to go collect materials. Cosi really wished he had saved up enough skill points to buy the fishing skill. With the fishing skill he would be able to more on these kind of gathering trips besides just look for materials because when it came to finding those things his luck was terrible. Cosi sighed to himself. But he did not have the fishing skill yet so he would have to stick to just looking under rocks and bushes, and by trees and rivers to hopefully find materials.

Still, the duo made it to the forest easy enough and began looking for materials. While the blue haired boy- Cosi reminded himself that his name was Kiro- would be looking for this quest, Cosi would be looking for his own profit. Not that he was greedy or anything. Cosi just needed more mats. Too bad he wasn’t finding any.

Kiro shrugged, walking to the next area that seemed to be full of gigantic trees which long branches. His mouth opened in surprise, now that it was the first time seeing such beauty. In the real world, he was never able to see anything like this expect in the internet where he spent most of his time playing games and speaking with his friends. The blue-haired child looked forward and glanced around himself, examining the area with a close look with the hopes of finding something worth his time. He sighed, guessing that he was going to have better luck searching for materials than trying to spot them using his sight. The youngling turned around to face the golden-haired swordsman called Cosi unable to find anything either. If they wanted to get this over with and move on to the next part of the quest, if there was any, then they had to hurry up a bit.

The kid turned his head once again, approaching one of the biggest trees in the are thinking that there might be something near it. Once he was near it, Kiro noticed that there was a hole in the middle where there could be items hiding inside. The short boy nodded his head in agreement, sliding his hand inside of it and hoping to find something of use that would help him in this journey. He felt his hand touching something,  it wasn't able to figure out what it was. However, it was surely not what he was seeking for. The blue-haired child brought his arm outside of the tree while holding the item, noticing that it was just dirt and food that some animal must've hid there. He chuckled, smiling gently, looking around to find where to go next. The best option would be on the ground, like the NPC previously specified.

Cosi followed Kiro into the forest. It was actually quite a big forest. The tree's were tall, if not massive, and their thick roots reached out far. Cosi walked among them, looking up at the canopy and the light streaming through there, as the boy continued searching. "This virtual world never ceases to amaze me" Cosi said out loud as he took in the simple majesty of the copse of trees. Then he moved back to looking fro materials of his own. He still needed them because they seemed to be like a currency among the crafting professions who needed them for their work. Cosi looked down on the ground and, snuggled among the web of roots, he saw a small ingot of metal. He stooped to pick it and pocketed it. He looked over at the blue haired kid to see how his search was going. It didn't seem like he had found anything yet.

Kiro smiled gently, shrugging. He had not found any materials in the wilderness and was doubting that they would complete this quest easily. The blue-haired child rose to his feet and scanned the area once again, attempting to find crafting materials that would aid him on his quest and anything of that matter. His perceptive eyes had yet to adapt to the function of this game that allowed them to seek for items struck in the ground, even if it was mostly based off luck like he was told earlier on when the game had just been released. The boy glanced at his teammate, who seemed to be having as much trouble as him finding items, until he crouched down to the ground to see a metallic ingot and pick it up, shoving it in his pocket. If the pacing of this mission was going to be so bad, he would most likely be relying on the materials that the two of them would be gathering in total. He shook his head in disagreement, looking down to the floor once again and beginning to search for any items that would come in handy to their task. The short swordsman's eyes widened in surprise, finally managing to find the first material in a while. He had successfully regained his hope of completing this quest and was more than willing to continue doing so.

Cosi kept wandering among the trees. This place seemed to be a good spot to find materials. At least both him and Kiro had found one since getting to this area so Cosi kept looking for more. He looked high in branches and low among the roots of the trees. He looked in the knolls and knots of the tree trunks and he looked in any bushes he saw. Cosi just foraged around and wished he had the fishing skill. Then all he had to do to find materials would be to sit in one place and wait. It would be great. Sadly he was still six or so sp off to get the skill. Cosi shrugged and kept looking. "Hey! Kiro!" Cosi realized he couldn't see the kid. One of them- or both of them- had probably gone behind a tree or something. "How are you doing on finding Mats?" Cosi shouted out to him, just to be friendly but also to make sure the little guy was still there somewhere. No kids getting lost or dying on his watch.

Kiro had gone farther in distance in comparison to the adult, considering that he was having bad luck at first. The blue-haired child thought Cosi would be around him most of the time, so he just looked at him here and there to tell how good his progression was compared to him regarding the material gathering quest. However, at some point, he lost track of him and found himself in the middle of multiple trees and flowers. The boy sighed in disbelief, glancing around the area to see if there were any remaining materials in there before they could move on. He didn’t want to regret not looking hard into the grass for crafting items that he would be used in his journey, so he lowered to the ground and started looking for materials. Before he could find anything, a familiar voice called for him, asking about his progress. “I’ve found one so far, but I’m still looking,” he replied in a joyful tone. “What about you?” He questioned, continuing to look for anything and hoping to succeed. However, his luck spike ended and made him fail in finding anything.

Cosi chuckled a bit when he heard that the boy only had found one. Looks like we're both unlucky. Cosi called back out to the kid, "Same here Kiro! Only one. This quest might take us a little more time than usual but that's not too bad." Cosi got down on his hands and knees to start searching for materials again. He always had terrible luck finding them. It was a lot easier just killing a monster and looting the beast. Alas Cosi had become too high level for the mobs on this first floor so he never got treasure from them anymore. Cosi shrugged. That didn't matter. He was planning on going to the second floor pretty soon. Probably right after they finished this quest. Not that I want to leave this kid. He is nice and all. I just need more of a challenge. And the first floor isn't giving it to me.

Kiro turned around once again, trying to find something else that would compensate for his failed attempt or that wouldn’t make him look bad for having so bad luck. The blue-haired child was told that he could find lots of crafting materials laying half-struck into the ground, but that never happened to neither of them. He released a sigh of disappointment on himself, shaking his head for a moment. “This will surely take us a lot longer, but I can’t say that I’m not enjoying myself,”  he thought to himself, chuckling under his breath while taking a moment to stare at the flowers with a smile laying on his face. The boy would attempt to move somewhere else but was interrupted by the golden-haired male’s comments stating how bad his luck was. Both of them were similar to a certain extent. “I see. Yeah, it will surely take us a while longer to finish,” he replied to the man, rubbing the back of his head while chuckling. However, they were on the same boat; he charged to another location which was closer to Cosi’s current one and started looking for any materials ready to be picked up. Luckily enough, the swordsman found a bright metal ingot laying in the ground and decided to pick it up and hide it in his pocket.

As Cosi circled back around to Kiro by following his voice, the golden haired warrior kept his eyes peeled for anymore materials. It looked like Kiro had found another one meaning that he was nearly half way to completing his task. Even though Cosi still had found only one that didn't bother him. He had joined up with this new player to hopefully give him the sense of confidence and protection Cosi didn't have when he started. Cosi just wanted to look out for this kid when he was most vulnerable, so that he could learn and grow and then be ready to defend himself in this death game. Cosi still couldn't find any just laying about so he shrugged and decided that he would have to look in more out of the way places. Cosi's gaze strayed upwards and he grinned crookedly as a terrible idea blossomed in his head. He rushed over to Kiro, "Hey Kiro! Watch my stuff" Cosi dropped his shield and sheathed sword at the kid's feet. Then he went over to an oak with a good many branches and began climbing.

Kiro was quite happy that his luck was still as high as before, and he hoped that it would keep like that until their task was finally over and that they were ready to head over to the blacksmithing shop and to start working on a weapon using a hammer that was made just for him. The blue-haired child could already imagine himself inside of the shop using this iron hammer to slam it into the pieces of materials he had gathered in the process and making a good weapon or armor for him to use, or to sell in the near future! Hopefully, they would be made of good quality. He stretched his arms backward, feeling a bit tired all of that time seeking for materials and being unable to find anything. It made him wonder if he was made for this job, but those thoughts quickly disappeared thanks to his will to continue, determination of steel and positivity. The boy looked back, noticing that the adult had finally made it to him, asking him to protect his items while he climbed the tree. He blinked in confusion, unable to believe that the man was going to risk his life to grab a single material. “You don’t have to go up there, I’m sure we’ll find something,” he declared, but it was far too late as the male had already grabbed the giant plant and attempted to go up there and see if there was anything left for him to pick up.

The boy sighed in disbelief, shaking his head and turning around to find any more materials by himself while he waited for his teammate to come back from his trip. Sadly enough, he was unable to find anything of much worth. He glanced upwards, wondering if the male had succeeded or not in finding one.

"I know its a stupid idea! I'm full of those!" Cosi shouted back down to the kid, as he scaled the tree, "Plus I'm a little bored and I haven't done this since I was a little kid. Don't tell me you never climbed trees as a little kid!" Cosi caught what was saying and rethought it, "A littler kid!" The tree wasn't that difficult to climb. Cosi had picked one with plenty of lsrge, evenly spaced branches so climbing the tree was nearly like climbing a big ladder. As he pulled himself higher and higher, the tree was pretty tall, Cosi looked at each branch and knoll for any materials that could be of use. Sadly as he climbed he did not see any materials. Cosi shrugged and hefted himself up to the next branch. Climbing trees was so fun but it was also kind of strenuous. Cosi looked down and wished he hadn't. He was some thirty feet or more in the air.

Kiro rose to his feet once again, shaking the dust off his pants as he glanced to the older man, listening to his comment. He shook his head in disagreement, smiling gently while chuckling under his breath. “It isn’t a stupid idea, now that there could be better materials up there. However, I don’t want you to risk your life doing something like that,” he replied to the male, rubbing the back of his head and lowering it to look towards the ground. “I will pay attention to you now, so I will make sure to grab you when you’re falling if you trip. I might get hurt a bit, but I’m willing to pay with damage but to save you from dying,” he declared with a serious tone of voice, approaching the location where the male would be falling on if he did accidentally trip while speaking with him. The blue-haired and eyed child gazed upon the floor, trying to find anything helpful to him. For example, crafting materials made of steel that was said to be common in this area but that he didn’t manage to get his hands on. During a few moments, however, the kid would glance to his teammate to figure out if he was having trouble climbing the tree, or not.

Cosi heard his teammate calling to him, saying something about catching him if he fell so he wouldn't die. Cosi laughed and nearly fell when he heard that. He shouted down to him, "Don't worry about me kid! I'm covered in plenty of armor so that if I fall I'll probably put a hole in the ground. And if you tried to catch me I'd probably crush you. Just don't worry about me I'll be fine." Cosi kept climbing hoping and praying to find something. He was nearly at the top of the tall tree now. Cosi stuck his head through the top of the branches and into the open air. The sky was so blue and the sun was so bright. A small breeze blew over the tree tops and ruffled Cosi's hair. Sadly for all its majesty an beauty there was nothing up her. No treasure chest or materials. Nothing. Cosi shrugged his shoulders and began his descent.
