[F01- SP] Lesson's Unlearned <<The First Few Lessons are Free>>

Recommended Posts

Cyn strolled through the Town of Beginnings, her long wine red hair trailing behind her. She had just ordered her new weapons and armor but there was no point in waiting for her to wait for them to be finished. So the scarlet haired girl in the leather armor with a simple saber at her side and the cold eyes decided to start leveling up. She had already accepted a simple quest from some old man. All she had to do was collect some basic crafting materials for him. She sniffed her nose in disdain. The girl headed straight for the main gates nearly running over anyone who got in her way. She had no care for them. Cyn, or Slayer as her name tag said, was already far behind the strongest players. It was time to begin to close the gap. She'd make short work of this pitiful quest.

The girl's hard stare and just as hard expression drove away anyone in her way or anyone who might have wanted to talk to her- for whatever inane reason that could be- as she strode towards and then out of the main gates. Cyn entered the outside wilderness which was dominated by green hills, rivers and streams, and small gathers of trees that could be called forests. Cyn was just her to find some materials, nothing else and nothing more. Though she had no qualms about killing anything- or anyone- who got in her way. She scanned the immediate area looking for the best place to go looking for materials. There was a small copse of trees over to her left that looked promising, even with the couple boars that seemed to over there. Cyn began to stride over there. She walked over hills and through a couple small streams, her eyes always fixed on the forest ahead of her.

Cyn walked past trees, bushes, and streams with hardly a thought of them. Cyn did not care for anything but her goal. She wanted to get this quest done fast so she could be on her way to more rewarding and promising quests. This quest was too simple, too easy.

Cyn was able to get to the forest quickly and easily. Once there she began to search, swiftly but methodically, for any materials that she could use in this quest. She searched amongst trees in the forest, in the roots, and on the ground. In the knolls of trees and in the branches. Cyn found one material, a simple bar of iron, nestled among the roots of a great oak tree. One down four to go. I knew this place would have materials all over. Now to find more. Cynthia moved deeper into the forest, continuing her measured search of the area. She still needed four more.

Cyn kept pushing into the grove of trees, her eyes looking and searching for materials. She moved among the branches and  the thicket, past bushes and through undergrowth. Cynthia gripped her saber tightly as her other hand strayed absently through her scarlet hair which, even tied back in a ponytail, reached past her waist. She was not nervous persay more that she was wary. Wary of an attack from anything monster or player. Especially player. I would attack someone in my position. They’ve just begun and have no way of protecting themselves. Cyn caught a glimpse of something by the roots of another tree. This time it was not a metal ingot but a particularly useful looking plant. An herb of some kind Cynthia grabbed it anyways. It would serve some purpose. Everything did. Cyn moved on searching for more materials but she felt as if something was watching her.

Cyn turned suddenly, her hair streaming through the air, as she heard branches snap behind her. As she turned she pulled out her saber, the metal hissed as she drew it from the scabbard. Cyn was now faced with a medium sized boar that had been trying to snuck up on her. Seeing those eyes glowing with hate, Cyn wasted no time moving to action and attacking the creature. She slashed across its flank, smiling wickedly as she heard it squeal. Then with speed surprising from such a large creature it spun and  fired her with its tusks. Cynthia stumbled back from the force of the blow and clutched her chest. The hand didn’t come away covered it blood but when she looked down Cyn saw two slashed torn through her light armor, revealing maroon code. Interesting, Cyn thought to herself. This game was very interesting. She turned back to the boar her eyes aglow with a harsh inner light.

Cyn charged the boar again, her saber glinting in the sunlight, as she tried to kill the monster as fast as she could. I didn’t make my name Slayer for nothing. Her face remained stoic but her eyes burned with hate. She charged the monster even before it could make a move. She clutched her saber in a iron grip and then slashed through the thing's muzzle. The cold steel whirled and Cyn struck again hammering the saber edge into the boar's head. Cynthia grinned wickedly at the squeals of pain and watched as the boar, bleeding code profusely, sank to the ground in agony. The beast couldn't stand much less attack back, which saddened Cynthia a small bit. She wanted more challenging foes and while the boar had put in a good fight to was not a real challenge. She strode over to the dying boar and raised her saber.

She plunged the saber into the beast, a wicked smile on her face. The blade sank into the boar smashing it back to the ground as it weakly struggle to rise. Cyn pulled the weapon back out hearing the boar squeal with pain, then she stabbed it again. And again, and again. Until the boar was pin cushioned by stab wounds. The beast slumped to the ground and dissolved into red particles of code. Cyn still wore that wicked grin as she walked away. She flicked her blade to the side and then sheathed it. She went off deeper into the trees in search of more prey. There had to be plenty more it seemed the boars were plentiful here and if these boars were so easy to kill it was nearly a certainty that there would be players here as well. If only the monsters and players in Aincrad bled.

Cynthia walked deeper into the forest, hungrily searching for anything. She was bored. That boar hadn't sated her hunger at all. She supposed she shouldn't be as hasty to get into more fights but Cynthia didn't care. She did keep a lookout for more materials as she would need them to complete her quest. She searched high and low, looking through the roots and bushes. Still, every so often she looked around to make sure anything or anyone wasn't sneaking up on her. She would not be caught with her guard down even if she was at her most vulnerable. She didn't find anymore materials in this area of the forest but that didn't bother Cynthia one bit. There was still plenty of the forest for her to explore. She had no need to rush and no need to panic. She would find what she needed all in good time.

Cyn kept strolling through the forests and kept searching for materials. The forest grew denser. The trees were taller and thicker around. The bushes turned to undergrowth that carpeted the forest floor and made it hard to walk. Cyn pressed on looking for the materials that would allow her to complete this quest. She nearly crushed a rare looking blue flower that was hidden among the brush and fallen leaves. It sparkled slightly and seemed to warrant a closer look. Cynthia crouched down and inspected the flower. It was definitely a material so the scarlet haired girl picked it and stowed the plant. Now she only needed two more materials before she could complete this quest. Cynthia moved on through the brush and weeds, carelessly crushing them underfoot, and she continued her search. She was no real threat as she was. The starting armor was terrible and she really needed a better sword. Preferably something longer, with more reach, possibly two handed. Cynthia needed to grind and get as strong as she could. These easy quests were only the start.

For the second time while exploring this forest Cyn heard something in the brush behind here. She spun and pulled out her steel saber in one smooth motion. There in front of her stood another boar pawing it’s hooves ready to charge. Cyn gave it no chance and leapt into action. He rushed it and then swung with her saber aiming for the beast’s throat where it’s jugular would be. Sever that and the boar would be as dead as could be. She missed the primary target but her blade still cut thraough the thick hide and bite into flesh. The boar squealed in pain and tried to gore Cyn with its tusks but she was too quick. She nimbly danced out of the way of the attack and repositioned herself, ready to strike again. Her eyes burned with a hunger and the thrill of the fight. This fight would be over soon.

Cynthia charged the monster again her red hair flying behind her as she maneuvered around the beast. Striking at its weak points and attacking in its blind spots, She never let it turn and attack her head on. She would not risk a wound from those tusks. Cynthia moved in for a proper strike aiming at its hamstring to try and immobilize the monster. Cynthia cleaved into the beast’s back leg, hobbling it, and then maneuvered over to the front. As the thing crumbled, falling to the ground, with the sudden loss of its leg, Cyn quickly slashed her saber across its neck nearly beheading the boar. She watched in delight as the red code sprayed into the air. It wasn’t blood but it was close enough. As the boar dissipated into red particles, Cyn was surprised by a ding as her inventory opened. It said she had received loot from this boar she had slain.

Cyn shrugged her shoulders. She had gotten some money and some more materials. She would save those as the start of a personally stash since there was plenty materials out here so she didn't need to give all of them to the NPC. Cynthia kept looking for materials, the dead boar already out of her thoughts. She wanted to complete this quest as fast as she could and she also wanted to find more challenging monsters to fight, the boars had already begun to bore her. As she roamed deeper into the forest she stumbled on another one of those blue flowers. Cyn picked this one as well and stored it in her inventory. Only need more more and then I can go complete this simple quest, Cynthia thought to herself. This quest really was a beginner quest. The task was so simple: go out and get me five materials. Aincrad was literally littered with materials.

Cyn kept on her methodical search through the forest. She walked through the undergrowth, leaves and twigs snapping under her heels, and she looked for a single material. That was all she needed: one more material to complete this quest. After that she could go and return to the starting town. Then she would she whatever the second part of the quest the old man had mentioned was. Cynthia's cold eyes swept over the forest floor looking for anymore ingots or plant life that she could use as materials. She rather quickly spotted another one of those sparkling blue flowers. She pulled it from the earth and put it with the rest in her inventory. That was the last one she needed. Now to leave the forest and head back to the town of beginnings. The journey would not be too difficult as long as she didn't encounter any monsters or players who would try and hinder her.

However as Cynthia began retracing her steps to exit the grove of trees she happened on another boar. Once the beast spotted the red haired girl it snorted in fury and began to charge at her. Cynthia sighed, moved to dodge the oncoming monster, and strike at it while it passed her. Cynthia easily side stepped the boar's wild charge and slashed it across its flank as it barreled passed her. But she didn't stop there. Cyn followed the boar and before it could turn around to face her she swiped with saber, cutting across the back of one of its legs. She didn't hamstring as she had hoped but she did restrict its movement some. Cyn then backed out of the range of its tusks as the beast tried to quickly turn and gore her. The monster wobbled on its cut leg but did not fall. This fight would be longer than the others

When Cyn saw the boar trying to stabilize itself She charged in taking advantage of its weakness. She aimed for its throat with her saber hoping to strike a vital vein or tendon to finish off the monster. Her blade sank into the boar's tough hide and cut flesh- the boar squealed in pain and hate- but when Cynthia tried to remove her sword it wouldn't budge. It had gotten stuck in the boar's bristly hide. The boar struck out with its tusks, hitting Cynthia full in the chest. She reeled back from the force of the blow, her sword coming unstuck just at that moment. This fight is a lot more interesting than the other two, The red head thought to herself as she smiled sadistically. This boar was a lot tougher than the first couple but even now it was losing steam. Cyn could tell it was only  hit away from death. She would oblige it.

Cyn approached the boar slowly but purposefully. She watched it bled its red particles from the three wounds she had dealt the creature. All Cynthia needed to do was to strike it one more time, add one more wound to the three others, and the monster would go down. She quickly lunged at the beast, giving it no time to recover its own strength, She didn't want it attacking her back. She aimed for its throat because it housed the must vital artery and a slew of others. One good shot there would fell the beast. Her blade struck true, sinking into the beast's throat, cutting off its scream of pain, and turning it into a gurgle of a agony. The thing dissipated into red particles and once again Cyn was rewarded with some Col and Mats as loot form the boar. They may be a push over but they drop some adequate loot.

Cynthia made it the rest of the out of the forest without anymore problems. And started to head back to the Town of Beginnings. The journey was not long and all Cynthia had to do was retrace her own steps. She trekked back over the rivers, walked past streams, and hiked over the rolling green hills. Sh looked straight ahead, letting nothing distract her from her destination besides the occasional group of boars that strayed close or the odd glint that she thought was a material. The boars always moved away and the glints never turned out to be anything useful but that did not bother Cynthia at all. She had completed the gathering portion of the quest. Now it was on to the second which required her to get back to the quest giving NPC. So Cyn kept walking through the grasslands, past copses of trees, and over more rivers. The first floor was actually quite boring.

Once Cyn got back into the the Town of Beginnings she headed straight to the NPC's shop. Once inside she handed over the five found materials and awaited instruction for the next part of the quest. The old man, Zackariah, told her that he would now teach her how to create potions. Syn sighed mentally. More useless information but she would suffer through it to complete this quest. She half listened as the old man explained what potion she would be making and who to create it. Cyn then watched as he began to show her by example. The NPCs hands moved deftly across his apparatus and implements. Stirring here. Adding a pinch of something there. Stirring some more, adding another sprig of something, and then put it over a burner. "There not so hard little lady" The old man said as he pulled off the completed potion, "Now you try." Cyn moved behind the counter and tried to emulate the man's expert movements It was a bit difficult but she thought she managed to do it right. She finely cut the leaves up and then took a pinch of it and added it to the beaker. She stirred it for a couple seconds and then added a sprig of what looked like mint. She stirred it a little more and then put the potion on the burner.

Cyn pulled the potion off of the burner and handed it to the old man. The potion looked almost exactly like his. He took it, stoppered it and sealed it, and then set it aside with an approving nod. He turned back to Cyn, "Well done little lady. Thank you for all your help today..." The old man starting rambling so Cyn tuned him out. It was only when she heard the words "...you should be dutifully rewarded" That she started listening again. "I just happen to have some potions that may be of use to you on the rest of your journey." The old man shuffled back behind his store counter, rummaged around for a few minutes, and then returned with a handful of potions cradled in this arms. "This are some healing potions- good for desperate situations- and this is a tincture which improves your overall constitution. Good if you are planning on entering a deadly fight. And this is a potion which will improve the damage you do. Its good for finishing fights quickly or getting past armor"

The man handed the potion to her when he defined it and she was soon left with a handful of potions. Cyn opened her inventory and put the potions away just as the old man was taking out something else. he brought out a small package wrapped it brown paper. "There is one last thing you could do for me." He handed her the package, "Lyle Tealeaf, the balcksmith, is expecting this package and I'm afraid I am quite late in delivering it. Would you take it to him?" Cyn nodded, mostly because she was sure this was part of the quest and that she wouldn't be able to finish it if she didn't do this annoyingly simple task. So Cyn left the shop keeper and went to go find the blacksmith. It was not too hard all she had to do was follow the sound of clanging steel and the smells of smoke and fire.
