Gryas was looking through his quest log to find where he should start. He had been away from the game for months now, choosing to stay at home and ignore his surroundings. Looking through the quest look however he stumbled across a quest that he had done all those months ago with Zanne. That made him pause, it had been a year and a half now since the last time he heard her voice. Shaking away that dreaded feeling of loss it urged him to push onward. Stage 2 out of the 4 stage quest chain was called <<The Second Lesson, Is Also Free>> That looked like as good as any a place to begin and to pick things back up.

"Lyle Tealeaf the blacksmith huh? Hopefully he shouldn't be too hard to find." Gryas began his journey, trying desperately to rekindling the flame within and find his will to fight.

The sun was bright... Why was the sun always so bright on this blasted first floor? Gryas had not been back here since the first few months of getting trapped in this death game. He had spent well over a year just on floor 2 mainly staying at his Alchemy shop The Chimeric Cauldron just trying to drive away the gloom that had overtaken him. It is always hard to loose someone close, even harder when it finally hits you that what started as just another video game; all be it a virtual reality one; is actually a death trap to anyone who gets just a little over their heads... Well those he knows... those he knew, they wouldn't want him to just sit around all day. He needed to bring back the fight that was once inside him. He needed to move forward and do what he can to help those other that are struggling to win this game.

Walking through the Town of Beginnings brought back families memories, most of them fond, some of them frustrating and tedious. The blacksmith Lyle Tealeaf had a store somewhere in the market district, and upon inspecting his quest log and viewing his map Grayas quickly found his way to the destination. It was a medium sized stone building with a homely feel to it. Approaching it and knocking on the door a gruff but warm voice inside called out to enter.
Walking in Gryas found a weathered and heavily calloused man in his late years of life slaving away at the forge. "How can I help you friend?" He asked Gryas, who then responded. "Lyle I presume? I hear you require some help around the forge, that you are lacking in certain materials to craft your weaponry?"
"Ah yes" Lyle begun, and Gryas had already tuned out and clicked the accept quest pop up in hopes that it would speed this up...

Exiting the walls to the Town of Beginnings, Gryas entered the surrounding rolling plains that stretched as far as the eye can see. A forest loomed in the distance and to the West is where the quest marker was pointing him. Stretching old "muscles" that had not been used in a while Gryas began the trek to his destination. Deciding to have a look around as he did he thought to at least pick up a few useful items along the way. This quest was rather simple, the mobs really didn't threaten him and the reward was not great but EXP was EXP. Looking around he could not find anything of use. This area must have already been picked clean by all of the players that have either not left the safety of the first floor yest or are simply looking for an easy time gathering. Either way it preoccupied him as he walked.

Boars drop Tusks on LD 11+

Gryas saw a group of 4 boars milling around in front of him. Walking up to them they did not stir at all so looking at the ground and seeing a rock Gryas kicked it towards them. This seemed to get their attention but not by much. Walking up to one of them Gryas drew he Annealed Blade and poked the porker saying "Come on, hit me you stupid beast."
The boar reared up and snarled as it started to back away. Looking around at the other 3 boars Gryas walked up to and kicked each of them in turn until one after the other they charged him and upon landing against his shield exploded in pixels. One of the boars got under the shield and darted to the side running past him. That was a shame, he wanted to end this quickly. Checking his log Gryas saw the pop up. Two of the three boars that died had dropped the quest reward. Just one more to go and one angry boar rearing up for another charge.

The last boar charged at Gryas who casually batted it to the side with his shield, the thorns damage once again doing their trick as it too exploded into pixels. Ah he had thought, these boars could not pierce his damage mitigation at all, not even close. Maybe this quest was a little too low for him... The EXP it gave though was reasonable enough to quickly go through this and the next 2 quests. Checking the quest rewards the one for this quest was actually a 1 handed weapon with an enhancement. The Anneal Blade works well enough with the bonus damage it dealt but a weapon that had a bit more weight to it.. something that really connected with his target might be more his style. Already thinking of what he would get as a reward Gryas decided to take a break by one of the nearby hills where a small stream ran.

It was still early morning and the breeze was cool. Trying to make the most of the day Gryas looked around and decided he might as well go for a walk and try gather some mats for his alchemy shop. Not seeing anything close that was of use he decided to walk further from the Town of Beginnings and venture towards the forest. There was a town down this way, he had been there before with an old friend. That's where he had met that other player.. the one that was so helpful. Stryder was his name. As an afterthought Gryas decided to send him a chat request, check in on him and see how he was doing. Let him know that he was actually still alive and see how Stryder had gone on that quest of his. Isolation had probably been the hardest part of the past year for Gryas so it was about time to change that.

Gryas closed the chat box after sending off a message and then got up from the spot he was seated. Looking around he spotted a whisperbush, a small shrub like plant that was known for its concealed thorns that protected the small delicate fruits hidden beneath the branches. Gryas strolled over to it to inspect it, and as he had expected he managed to pry apart the outer level of branches and found the goods within. Selecting the berries and adding them to his inventory he smiled to himself, those berries had a rather potent healing property that would be perfect for crafting a healing potion, and if he did not want to make one of those with it he could even use it to brew a rather soothing and delicious brew of tea.

It was a shame that there were not any monsters on this floor that were worth fighting, none of them challenged him enough in combat and even if he did bother defeat them they would not offer any experience or loot. Well at least there were plenty materials to be found, might as well take the long walk back and pick up a few.

Gryas found and inspected another whisperbush but unfortunately this time he was not as delicate in harvesting the berry... After a sad little *squelch* the small berry popped in his heavily gauntleted fist, completely destroyed and now rendered useless the small bush unfortunately did not bare any more fruit. Moving on Gryas continued to wander towards the forest to the West in hopes to find a few more materials before packing it in. It was not long ago when these fields were full of new players fighting hard to level up, but this day not a single player could be seen. There were a few players wandering around the Town of Beginnings, mostly players that were too afraid to fight to finish the game. Most tried to make new lives, and were even supporting those on the front lines by becoming different kinds of vendors, craftsman and getting into the various trades.

Wanting to find some more materials Gryas entered the tree line of the forest in search of some a bristle bark tree, the sap of the tree can be used as a strong antiseptic and all one needed to harvest it was to pry off the small thin ridged bark of the tree and it leaked out ready for collection. The trees bark is white similar to that of a birch tree and  Gryas quickly found one. Approaching it he drew his anneal blade and using the tip of the blade Gryas dug it in to the tree and pried away some bark revealing the bole of the tree underneath, the sap beginning to seep through. Examining it Gryas found it had automatically added itself to his inventory, he had successfully harvested another tier 1 material. A few more of these and Gryas would be able to put in a full day at the shop brewing some potions.

Well that was about all that he could get from this tree, time to move on and hind something else useful. Looking around however Gryas was unable to find any other material gathering points in the near by area, heading deeper into the forest. He passed a few boars as he walked as well as other different monsters spread throughout the woods. His level was too high for these monsters to even agro on him. It was odd, thinking how these very same enemies had caused so much danger to him in the past, as well as probably caused the death of many new players that tried to make their way through this game. That thought was yet another reason why Gryas had to move on, why he had to fight and help those in need. Gryas would do all he could to shield those around him, he would die fighting, striving to reach the frontlines.

"Dam why did this quest have to be so easy, this is boring." Gryas thought to himself. Thinking that he perhaps should have tried something a little more his level... But all those quests would wait. Asking around at the inns on floor 2 he found out that this quest chain itself was limited to low level players where usually most quests were open for all levels. The skill points gained from these quests will be easy to achieve and valuable later down the track.
He was a bit too distracted in thought to spend much effort looking for any materials at the moment, there was not any real rush and would be plenty of opportunities to find some materials in the future. It was not too long before Gryas would need to start farming the second tier of materials. He wouldn't be able to use any of the equipment but he would be able to start crafting some potent crystals and potions.

Getting his head back in the game Gryas doubled his efforts in searching for materials. The sooner he levels up his profession the sooner he will be able to start crafting crystals that will benefit him and his new guild. The Guardians Of The New Dawn... It was founded by an old friend of his. He had sent Stryder a message earlier and in response had received an invite to his new guild. Well new is not really the right word, seeing that he had founded it almost a year ago. There were a few strong members in this new guild.. he would have a lot of catch up to do.
There were several different gathering points near by that Gryas had now spotted and decided to get to work gathering more bark, luckily he was completely stocked up on healing potions however if he could just get lucky in his next crafts a few perfects would be a huge boost.

This current area was quite rich in material gathering spots. He quickly finished at the first gathering point and was on to the next one already, working fast he pried off some more bark and gathered the sap beneath. This was becoming very profitable, although he had already made a good supply of tier 1 healing items unfortunately he had not received any customers for his shop. He would need to level up more to get his name out there and to get some business. It all started at Rank 5 though, those crystals that you can make are far superior to potions as they took no time at all to use making them invaluable in dangerous situations when mere seconds could mean life or death. Plus some higher level damage buffs and full party healing will be very useful when he behind grouping again and tackling more difficult enemies.

Gryas finished up the last bit from the current gathering spot and then looked around, and being unable to locate any others he decided to move on. He had cleared this whole area and needed to find another spot to gather mats, circling the edge of the forest Gryas began heading North to see if he could find another good spot to harvest. As he walked he drew his blade, giving it a few swings as he walked. He had not used the blade much and found that the light thin blade did not quite feel right to him, wishing something that had a little more weight to it, a proper heavy blade, maybe an axe that had force behind it when its swung.
This armor of his however fit perfect. Unlike some who felt restricted while weighed down in full plate Gryas felt free while he wore it, able to move freely and at will, he felt more normal wearing the armor then when he was without.

Moving through the forest Gryas felt his luck begin to turn from good to bad. He was unable to find any materials in the the surrounding area so moving onward he hopped to find his luck further along the forest. This material gathering is good enough but what he really needed was something to fest his steel and push his skills a little more then prying apart trees and looking through berry bushes.
He had his eye set a few different skills skills that will increase his battle prowess, but deciding if he should go for increasing his survivability so that he can more safely fight or go for something that will help keep people safe by drawing enemies attention. He did not think that he would have a chance to fight with any other players any time soon so perhaps survivability was the way to go, that way he can get stronger so he can be of more use to his friends.

After walking a few hundred paces Gryas had found a few other spots where he could gather. He collected the materials as he walked and then just kept on, it was time he started heading back. He turned to make his way East towards the Town of Beginnings when he spotted what looked like a cave entrance. He remembered a hunt he had done way back when and decided to enter it and see if his hunch was correct. Months ago when he had gone hunting wolves Gryas had stumbled upon a cave that had a re spawning treasure chest within. He made his was in to the back of the cave and started searching around but it seemed the chest had not opened yet. There were plenty of different mushrooms and items he could harvest in here so Gryas decided to stick around and examine his surroundings and wait and see if one spawned.

It took some time for Gryas' eyes to adjust to the dim lighting in the cave, but after some time he could see his surroundings clearly. Searching around there was a small patch of mushrooms growing to one end of the cave and upon examining them he easily added another crafting material to his inventory.

Gryas could see how this was a very easy way to fall into complacency. It was rather easy to just spend your days treating this world like that of the outside, spending your time gathering safely and then going back to your business to practice your trade. Day in, day out. In fact lots of people did that, hell Gryas was worse for the last year as he hadn't bothered gather or do anything to help. If every player did that though no one would be making use of the hard work that the players put in to increase their crafts. Their crafts to help people beat this game...

Searching around Gryas quickly found another stack of mushrooms that he inspected and then added it to his inventory. Looking though everything that he had gathered so far he was quite pleased with himself, it was quite a respectable haul for such a simple area to explore. This would give him quite the boost to his alchemy, if he made enough potions he could donate a few to the guild to help them out with the quest that was coming up. Styder had just sent him a message that the guild was going to go on a hunt and that Gryas would need to tank for some similar level players. At last he would be able to put himself on the line to protect others. It was a daunting thought, putting the lives of others under his protection. At least he was close to leveling, after handing in this quest he should gain enough experience to become more effective at tanking.

Kicking around in the back of the cave it took no time at all for Gryas to find more mushrooms. He should have come to this spot earlier as it seems to be teeming with materials ripe for gathering. All this reaching down and moving in heavy armor was starting to get tiresome, It looks as good as any a time to head back to Lyle Tealeaf the blacksmith and hand in the quest items for his reward. Hopefully all the items he had dropped off for identification was done and he could go collect them and see what was revealed.
All in all it had been quite a productive first day back in the fight. The next quest Gryas accepts should be a more combat focused one, perhaps he should just go out hunting like he did way back when. His stomach began to grumble, removing a tasteless stale loaf from his inventory he consumed it and thought he would have to befriend someone with the cooking school as this kind of food was not going to do.
