Itzal drew his sword as he walked into the back yard of his house.  Velnia flying beside him.  His familiar had changed of course, as he had used the name tag on her.  For she now had silver scales instead of her original purple scales.  And her eyes were no longer red, but instead were pale blue.  In addition to her appearance, her personality as well as her element had been changed.  Her element was switched from lightning into steel, allowing her to harden her scales, and even reshape them just enough to make maneuverability easier for her.  As for her personality, Itzal trained her to be more focused during times of need, and around others so that his identity wasn't discovered through Velnia.  Besides this fact, there was also his other reinforcements of disguises.  His new outfit concealed his face perfectly, save for players he added to it's whitelist.  Any player not on the whitelist would not be able to see past the black mist/smoke that covered his face.  Furthermore, he had found a way to disguise his voice.  Originally he hoped gear could do that.  Filter his voice and such.  However because he couldn't find anything, he took some time to try and come up with an alternate solution.  Which he did.  He in fact, learned how to speak in an American accent.  It was very fitting actually, since that was his birth country.  He learned a little bit more about it.  All of these things combined, the only thing that could give him away without him meaning to, was his secret technique Soul Barrage.  Which was only known by him, Jonathan, Jenna, Hestia, and one or two others...  He thinks.

Itzal stood in his rogue armor with his weapon at the ready.  He set the slime farm on a timer.  Specifically, the mobs spawn time.  The slime farm was extremely customizable, and thus he could set anything however way he liked.  He could set the general levels of the slime mobs.  Adjust their stats, such as health points, damage per hit, mitigation, evasion, accuracy from there.  Or set all the stats up from scratch.  He could even add in other elements such as enhancements so that he could have the slimes mimic player combat.  Ini addition to all of that, he could also choose the general shape of the slimes.  Whether they took the form of a blob, four legged beast, flying creature, demonic figure.  Or a human.  This greatly enhanced his training and thus he was, this was one thing he was grateful to Kayaba for...  But just the one.  The slime monsters he set up took the shape of humans, and had stats close to his own.  He set it so they'd all have straight swords or daggers.  Reason being he didn't feel comfortable facing against enemies who had higher damage that he could ever reach...  Not yet anyway.  Last time he had done a one on one duel with one of these slime monsters.  Now he'd be facing it two on one.  Every time he succeeded, he would increase the difficulty in some way, honing his skills to be strong against a player killer when the time came.  The timer went off.  The monsters spawned in.  And Itzal initiated the attack.

Itzal charged in, forcing the two slimes to leap to the sides and avoid being hit by him.  Itzal then turned his foot inward to help him turn quicker and easier.  As he did so, he would swing his blade upward from his opponent's right hip to their left shoulder.  The attack was blocked, but instead of pulling away Itzal pushed forward.  Ducking and moving under his opponent's blade, his own sword moving with him, acting as a narrow roof between him and his opponent's sword.  He reached behind the figure and swung his leg out at the mob but it ducked at the last second.  Itzal backflipped to avoid a strike, and watched as both mobs charged him.  The duel continued, Itzal on the defensive.  Parrying and deflecting their attacks and making counter attacks at will.  Sometimes they hit, and sometimes he hit.  Soon enough he was able to shatter one of them, which triggered the <<Vengeance>> program in the mob.  Causing it's movements to become more unpredictable, faster and stronger.  It actually got to the point where Itzal was hard pressed to fight it.  Itzal's health continued to drop, but so did the mob.  Until finally, Itzal swung his blade, slid it into his other hand immediately after, and dealt the final strike.  The monster fell, only on it's last shred of health.  At this point players would be more compliant.  But this was a mob for training, so he finished it off.

Itzal walked away from the slime farm and went inside to shower.  Afterwards he equipped his armor again and made his way to the twenty first floor.  He was taking the nature's treasure's quest yet again.  He needed materials not just for himself, but to get some crafts made.  He began to walk across the floor and headed over to the cavernous area the quest took part in.  The second he arrived he began to start searching.  Itzal scanned the area but he wasn't seeing anything.  He hoped Kirbs would be able to make his trinket quickly.  He didn't want to have to struggle with searching so much.  Not to mention he'd need it to spot players quicker.  He sighed as he walked and began to think about everything that was changing.  He started by listing them all off one after the other:  The frontlines were losing many players.  Bosses would  most likely be stronger than ever.  He was going rogue and as an extension going to be hunting down player killers.  Domarus was on his path to redemption.  Hidden and Adrian were on the loose.

There were a lot of changes happening.  He wondered how Hestia planned on keeping players imprisoned in a certain area.  There weren't any no teleport zones that they knew of...  It would be interesting to see how things would unfold.  Regardless of that however, they needed a place to imprison them.  Or else the only way would be to kill them, which Itzal did not want to do whatsoever.  In fact he completely refused to do so.  Which of course posed the paradox:  Murder was wrong, but if there is no other choice.  Should you kill to keep them from killing others?  If he couldn't find a way to imprison players without having to kill them he may not have any choice.  He kept looking for anything he could locate and collect but wasn't finding anything.  His luck was rather low right now.  Especially with the fact that he didn't have that item..  Thinking about it actually, he recalled how Takao had an item with plus four LD.  A demonic perfect for scouts.  Unfortunately it vanished from aincrad when the scout went missing.

He thought for a moment about Takao.  Or rather, not him the person, he hardly knew the player.  But the demonic item itself.  Actually, it would be more accurate to state he was thinking about demonics in general.  They could range from frail and unavailing, to overpowered and practical.  It was up to luck and Kayaba whether or not players would get an item they wanted or needed.  And even then things became far more difficult to even get one.  This game catered to dps players totally and completely.  The most powerful equipment in the game could only be obtained if you dealt the last hit against a boss.  In order to raise the chances of you being able to pull that off you needed high damage.  Otherwise your chances of getting it were close to zero.  And furthermore, for the past year, and even two years, players who got the drops were typically greedy.  He scanned the area again for materials, but could still see nothing.  Yeah, it was definitely his luck.  Even without the cloak he should have found some materials by this point.  Itzal sighed as he continued moving to another area to see if he could find anything.

The fact remained that the demonic items were more problems than they were worth if Itzal was being honest.  If how they were obtained was changed then that would be different altogether.  As of right now, only one type of player could get them, and most of the darker players tended to be that exact type.  If how they were obtained was changed then things would probably be greatly different.  At any rate, he would probably need to get his hands on equipment with unique enhancements.  If he could get powerful stunning enhancements, regeneration enhancements, or damage enhancements, that would greatly help.  The issue with damage however, was that there wasn't any current method for changing Velnia's enhancements...  That could wait later however.  Beyond the issue with demonics there were of course the changes being made throughout Aincrad.  He finally came across two materials and picked them up.  Two wasn't nearly enough.  He'd need to keep searching until he found an abundance of materials.  More than he needed.  Or rather, more than he and the crafters he visited needed.

  • 3 weeks later...

And then there was the change in how familiars worked.  The system was now allowing players to re train their familiars, which meant that Itzal wouldn't have any issues if he came across a more powerful weapon that had damage enhancements rather than something else.  This of course meant that he could switch Velnia's skill from fighter, which provided damage to his attacks, to something else like evasion, mitigation, or something else.  Having mitigation would prove useful on the front lines for certain.  It would take some time and thought of course, and would greatly depend on what item he had gained.  Not only that but there was a new mod added to howl which allowed tanks to force all damage from attacks onto them.  This would be useful in boss battles but also dangerous as AoE attacks would focus all their power on the tank.  Of course there was a chance the target could push past the mark and strike their intended target anyways.  What was most interesting was how it could be used on players.  This Itzal felt would greatly help Hestia's police force.  He looked again but found nothing.  Luck was definitely not on his side...

He thought about how devastating the damage could be if a player used mark on an AoE based floor boss..  Or even a powerful AoE assailant like Domarus.  He thought about the man and how, if he did intend to change.  If the player could strengthen himself enough, and get to tier three with good equipment and skills.  He'd be an incredibly vital addition to the front lines.  He thought about helping the player get back up on his feet, but it was for the best that he let the man handle himself for the moment.  For now he needed to focus on getting himself stronger so he could face and defeat player killers.  He just hoped they'd be able to find a place they could imprison player killers..  And then of course there was the issue of the front lines themselves...  Or rather the battle against the floor boss itself.  He couldn't let players know about his identity, which meant he couldn't be in a party with anyone else...  Unless they already knew.  And he was only going to be telling players he trusted enough not to share said information.  Zandra so far was the only player he had told thus far, which worked out since she could heal him...  But he hadn't told anyone else just yet.  Itzal spotted a few more materials and smiled, inserting them in his inventory.

Itzal wondered...  If he had to add more people to his small circle of players who knew his identity, who would he choose to know this?  He might have chosen Morgenstern after speaking to him as Itzal about...  Well everything that had been happening lately and working out their issues.  However he had gone MIA which was concerning.  He doubted he died but he hadn't investigated just yet.  He'd have to look into it a little bit later, maybe double check the monument.  Shield was a no.  The man was skilled and intelligent but...  He reminded Itzal like a robot at times.  Not to mention the two didn't know each other that well, or that close.  That would be important in the battles to come.  Even though he only recently started getting to know Zandra, she seemed easy to connect with which made the process easier.  He couldn't do Hestia.  She was a close friend but their last discussions were rough, and he doubted she'd keep quiet about his true identity for long.  Not to mention she'd be calling on him for too much.  For Domarus...  He wasn't sure about Domarus.  He'd been watching the player and so far he seemed to be wanting to keep his word but...  Even then he wasn't sure if he could trust him or not with this secret.  He spotted another two materials and inserted them into his inventory.

There was Macradon, the only real member of the Knights of the Blood Oath he ever liked.  But whether he'd attend the next boss raid or not was the question.  Not to mention that he was going through a hard time if his reaction to Hirru's actions were anything to go by.  There was Ruby but he doubted such a thing would work at all.  And besides he already had Zandra who was a healer.  He thought about Calrex...  The player was a dps but his unique skill let him act as a tank when he needed to.  The question was whether Zandra wanted to play healer, tank, or dps.  He'd have to talk with her about it.  And see if Calrex was planning to go with dps this round.  If he was...  Then he might tell the player his identity.  Teion was also there but he didn't know the player that well.  There was Baldur.....  However for the sake of rumors he didn't want Baldur knowing his real identity.  There was also Jomei, but again he didn't know the player that well.  This was going to be a rather rough ride...  He had to ensure he brought a teleport crystal with him.  And he couldn't hesitate to use it if he entered the risk of being killed.  He spotted another two materials and added them to his collection.

He sighed as he continued to gather materials.  He had chosen a rather difficult path.  Not only was he deciding to change completely, but he was also hiding his true identity.  The very game system and how it worked already forced the odds against him in this regard.  He couldn't be alone, or else he would perish.  This much he knew.  However he wasn't about to just give up.  He'd speak with other players if need be.  He could claim that before he started fighting with everyone for real, he wanted to 'test the waters' so to speak.  And teleport out of things turned for the worse against him.  That would be a decent excuse at least.  And it would give him more time to try and find players whom he could trust and work well with.  He shook his head.  He was just making things harder for himself by pondering the future too much.  He was starting with Zandra and may talk with one other player before the floor raid.  He needed to focus on what he had to do right now...  Which was gathering materials for himself and for an alchemist when he could find one...  Itzal focused and spotted four more materials...  Well that worked he thought.

Itzal hadn't fully explored all the floors yet.  This included the twenty first floor.  He decided that if he was going to search for materials he may as well look for them in sections of the map he had not yet discovered.  Even though Nature's Treasure's was specifically in an enclosed space on the map, it was still large enough to include areas he had not yet discovered.  As he walked along the cavernous ground exploring the area, he looked for any hidden passages or caves.  Just because this was a giant cavern, did not mean that there wouldn't be any caves.  Itzal learned to expect anything.  As he walked around he ended up spotting an entrance.  He almost missed it, but was able to catch it just in time.  Hiding behind a large cluster of crystals.  He made his way over and decided to check the large cluster of crystals for materials just in case.  As he did he smiled as he spotted three additional materials, and added them to his inventory.  He was finally making some progress.  Now he wondered if his luck would continue to improve.

Itzal maneuvered around the crystals and looked into the cave below.  He switched on his night vision and immediately it lit up.  He smiled.  It was useful not having to purchase glow stones, and just scan the area without any hindrance.  He looked around however and frowned, as Velnia was nowhere to be seen.  He whistled for her and waited.  Soon he heard the flapping of her wings before she landed on his shoulder.  She'd been practicing being quiet despite her scales being made of steel now, and so far she was succeeding.  He stroked the crown of her head, causing her to purr.  She was more calm than usual, thanks to much training.  However she still enjoyed being with him, and was learning when she could be more free spirited and when she had to focus.  Today was a day of focusing.  Itzal smiled as her muscles relaxed at his touch.  He tried to comfort her as much as possible since they were having a rough time as of late.  Hopefully she'd be able to adapt to this new setting.  He scanned around and spotted a few metals that he added to his inventory.  After that he looked down into the cave, and began to descend.

Itzal looked down.  It wasn't a straight drop, but it was something he'd need to climb down if he didn't want to risk any fall damage.  While he could just jump and survive with the sheer health he had, it would be better if he climbed down.  If there were hidden materials, or more caves on the way down he didn't want to miss them.  He began to climb down and recalled that there could actually be monsters down there somewhere.  He thought for a moment before looking at Velnia.  "Hey, could you scout the bottom real quick?  See if there are any monsters?"  His familiar nodded with a chuckle before pushing off, doing a back flip in the air, and diving down into the darkness.  Itzal shook his head with a chuckle of his own.  She loved showing off when she could.  He kept moving down, step by step.  Inch by inch.  He was moving rather fast though, due to practice at parkour, and with the help of the acrobatics mod.  He needed to practice a little bit more though, when it comes to parkour.  Just making sure his skills were in perfect shape.  He spotted three materials stuck in the wall and pulled them out before continuing his climb down.

Itzal heard movement from below.  Specifically the sound of wings beating against the wind...  As well as the sound of metal clinging against itself.  Velnia landed on his shoulder and brought her claw over to his armor and tapped it with her claws twice, then dragged her claw to the right.  Each tap indicated one monster.  Dragging the claw along his armor meant that they were a decent ways away.  He nodded and kept climbing down.  So he had a decent amount of time to gather and explore before he ran into the monsters.  He looked at her.  "Are they patrolling?"  The steel dragon shook her head and he nodded.  So they were just hanging around then?  Guarding the entrance maybe?  He honestly wasn't too sure.  Of course, most of the time it didn't really matter.  He wondered though, if they were a monster he had fought before...  He reached the bottom and pulled open his menu, pulling out a journal he wrote to keep track of all the monsters.  "Velnia, were they any of these monsters?"  he asked her.  He spotted a few ores while he asked her and pulled it out, adding it to his collection.

Velnia scanned the list as he scrolled downward, and soon she nodded, poking her nose at one of them.  Itzal looked at the monster.  Dragon knight?  When had he fought something like...  It registered instantly.  The boss raid.  The knights trapped in crystals.  He could use his tracking mod to gain an instant hit on them.  He smiled.  "Thanks Velnia."  She smiled before doing a loop in the air.  She landed on his shoulder as he began to look around and observe the area he was in.  From what he could tell it was a tunnel like cave.  No cavern yet, just a single pathway to wherever it led.  He opened his menu and opened his mod shortcut section.  He scrolled down to tracking, passing the six other mods he had, and activated the mod.  Ever since they released the mod skill, he was so relieved.  Once he got the untraceable mod he would have it always active at all times, and would still be able to have other mods active.  Itzal scanned the area yet another time and spotted a few more materials.  He walked over and inserted them into his inventory, adding three more to the collection.

As he walked through the tunnels his tracking mod showed him footprints, claw marks and other such things that would lead him to his target...  Not that he needed help with that, it was a straight tunnel after all.  But if there ended up being more than one path, or twists and turns it could be useful.  Not as useful however as the instant hit this mod would provide him though.  After he struck the creatures he'd activate his song crystals which would take a little bit of time, but would grant him greater rewards upon their deaths.  Monster's fortune, which increased his LD for loot drops.  And Monster's Favor, which increased his CD for them as well.  These two together helped get him very high loot.  Not to mention his natural +5 LD.  If only he had the trinket though...  At any rate he needed to keep looking for materials as much as he could.  He smiled as he spotted a cluster of them:  Four resting in a pile.  He added them to his inventory and continued on his way.

Itzal started to think about something else however.  He could technically rack up some col by selling materials to players.  Anything he collected he could sell for a low price.  Though, at that rate it would just be more beneficial to sell his goods.  And even then he wouldn't.  Or rather:  The rogue wouldn't.  It was just another handicap of sorts for him choosing to not only go solo and keep his identity a secret.  But also because of him chasing down player killers and the like.  It would be best for him to not project himself in any manner if he could help it.  Or give his enemies a way to reach him.  Still, he could try and gather materials for the boss raids and offer to sell some there.  That would be reasonable he thought.  Players might be a bit annoyed that he was selling them, but he'd be selling them for cheap.  And he did need to keep up a personality different to Itzal, who would just give most things he gathered, crafted or looted away with no charge at all.  Itzal spotted a very large cluster of materials and grinned, adding the large collection to his inventory.

After putting the materials into his inventory he looked around to see if there was anything else.  After double checking he began counting the materials he collected thus far in his head, making his way through the tunnel as he did so.  Thirty eight so far.  If he kept this up there was a chance he could gather around fifty, maybe even one hundred materials before he packed up for home.  It would always be useful for him to gather more materials.  Some for himself to craft songs out of, grinding experience for his profession, as well as gathering for the front lines.  Goodness knows they needed it.  He paused for a moment after making some progress through the cave.  He noticed that there were some tracks that belonged to human npcs.  They were few, but that meant there could be a chest somewhere.  He scanned the area and spotted it immediately.  He smiled and approached it.
