Spoiler

Snow Beast Information:
<Snow Beast> is a Field Boss and has the following statistics:
HP: 250
Damage per Attack: 160

Special Ability: Partial Phase- Snow Beast will always deal a minimum of 24 damage, even through Armor and Armor Abilities.

Rewards:

  1. Essence of Steel: an incredibly rare monster drop that allows a player to enhance a weapon, armor, or accessory and improve it's quality by one level. (Example, an Uncommon Weapon becomes a Rare Weapon.) Enhanced Gear is eligible for new Item Enhancements and must be approved through the Crafting Item Evaluation Topic.
Note: This item CANNOT change a weapon's Tier. (Example, a Tier 1 weapon becomes a Tier 2).
  2. 1 Skill Point
Parties or Groups are encouraged, though only the player who takes this quest, and uses the Skull to awaken The Snow Beast will receive the <<Essence of Steel>> drop. That means ONLY ONE ESSENCE WILL DROP PER TOPIC.

Alisea Dariem, or as her screen name called her, Jinx, looked at the quest in front of her. The Essence of Steel. The drop of the quest was super useful for someone if they had a had a store, which the girl had been looking to do recently. She enjoyed when people cooked food for her, and so, she was looking at opening a store and learning how to cook food.

But regardless, she was lacking the store to get it to use it. But the quest itself would help her level up, and that was her aim for this quest. To power level herself up, but...she was very confident that the quest would be potentially lethal for her. She would need an ally, or allies, who were somewhat powerful. She knew the quest she wanted...there was just one, slight issue. The girl was hopelessly lost. She couldn't remember where she'd accepted the quest, and it didn't say! (Although if the girl looked at the map option, she'd find it).

The girl was wondering around on the 7th floor, unaware she was on the wrong floor entirely for what she was seeking. That's when she spotted a somewhat familiar name. It was a store she'd visited recently to help her friend...The owner seemed nice enough, maybe...?

Jinx opened the door to the store and spotted the girl she had been hoping to see. The cook, Neopoltan. She smiled at the other girl weakly "Excuse me...i'm sorry to barge in, but i'm..well, a little lost. I'm trying to find this quest, but...i've got no idea where i'm supposed to be going..." She had a feeling the chef might get annoyed at her, a lot of people did then she got lost like usual. But she hoped maybe, the girl would help her out. She kept the quest name up in her menu, having forgotten to close it.

Minding her own business and working on orders for her shop, Neo found herself being greeted by one of her previous customers once more. She was mostly just hoping they weren't here for their order quite yet, as she had been busy filling out the previous one's still. Thankfully, they were just in need of finding one of the quests. Neo peered over the counter to see what the quest was, and noticed it was something that she had heard about before. Gesturing for Roman to hop onto her shoulder, Neo walked out the door to her shop. Making sure the girl was following her, Neo made her way to the next town over where the teleporter was. Though it had been a little inconvenient before for her to get there, it seemed no mobs were bothering her on her path this time. Maybe they had become unaccustomed to her being there, having stealthed through it the last several times she had gone by. Regardless, they reached the teleporter, and Neo held up four fingers to let the girl know what floor to go to. Hopefully they would understand that, but they might need more. Neo decided to wait by the teleporter for them to leave before deciding whether or not to go back to her shop or possibly get herself out of the shop for a bit.

The first thing that caught Jinx's eye was the familiar the hoped onto the girls shoulder. It was...like nothing she'd ever seen before! It wasn't a dragon, a drake...? She frowned as she stared at the animal, it was, in its own way, beautiful. She would have kept staring had the other girl not interacted with her, signalling for her to follow. It took the girl only a few moment before remembering that the owner, Neo, was a mute. She couldnt' speak to her...Oopps?

Following the other girl, she frowned as the girl lead her to the teleporter. It took her far too many moments before realizing, she must have been...on the wrong floor. A defeated looked flash over the girls face, she'd wasted...who knows how long, on the wrong floor. Her original plan, to request help on a board when she got there was, well..now it was pointless. She scratched her head as Neo held up her hand...It took nearly a minute before the look crossed her face. The girl was signalling 4. 4 what...?

"Ohh, you mean...the quest is on the 4th floor? Do..do you know where on the floor?" She realized, as she asked...why would the girl now? And if she did, how would she be able to tell her. Jinx glanced away, annoyed that she was so easily...lost.

Neo had to wait a little bit before the girl seemed to understand what she was saying by holding up four fingers. At least Neo didn't have to pull out the messages in order to do that. That would've been a little bit embarrassing for both of them. At the very least, this girl seemed as though she was completely lost. As they asked where the quest was on the fourth floor, Neo shook her hand back and forth in a so-so motion. She didn't know exactly where to get the quest done as she had yet to do it herself, but she did have info that would get her pretty close. That and the quest marker would probably be in the right area. Realizing that she didn't really have anything else to, Neo just gave a shrug and walked into the teleporter herself. Sending a party invite to the girl so they wouldn't get separated so easily, Neo went ahead and teleported to the fourth floor. Walking out into the frigid air, Neo did her best not to freeze while waiting for the girl to come through the gate.

Jinx frowned, trying to communicate with Neopolitan wouldn't be too difficult for most people, the issue with her was that...well, she was super absent-minded at the best of times. And trying to remember silent gestures was just, well...really hard. So far, she'd managed to know that the quest was on the 4th floor, although, she realized in mind-sight, how was someone who couldn't speak going to well her where to go?

However, it was Neo's next actions that confused Jinx. She sent her a, party invite? Jinx was extremely confused, but pressed the accept button right as the other girl walked into the teleporter... After many seconds of staring at the teleporter, it became clear to her. Neo was joining her! Ohhhhh. The eye-patch wearing girl smiled brightly. Now this quest would be possible, after all, she would have needed to search for an ally. If Neo was willing to come with her, maybe she would be able to deal the damage she needed to succeed? With a now-spring in her step, she stepped into the teleporter and moved to the 4th floor.

Arriving on the 4th floor, Jinx felt a very cold wave hit her. She hated the cold...Hugging herself in an attempt to keep warm, and looked at the other girl with a warm smile despite the snow, excited to follow the other girl as, even on the correct floor, she had NO idea where she was going, the quest marker was up, she just was a little, absent.

Thankfully, Neo had packed a couple of warmer items for the trip, not that they helped much. She passed a jacket over to Jinx, who she noticed wasn't quite ready for the temperature of the floor.  Returning the warm smile, Neo began to lead her way out of the town. It was a good thing she had already picked up the quest quite a long time ago, that meant that the two of them would be able to complete the quest without her having to sidetrack to actually get it. It was also one of those quests you may as well keep taking anyways. The chance at the upgrade item was very nice, even if she didn't need it right now. Making her way through the snow, she hope that the two of them wouldn't run into anything on their way to the cave. It would be a nice measure of the other girl's strength, bunt she'd rather not fight in this near blizzard.

@Jinx (apologies for the wait, I'll be getting to the other thread here soon)

Jinx hadn't expected the other girl to offer her a jacket, however she smiled brightly at the other girl "Thank you so much for this Neo, i didn't realise just how cold this floor was going to be" Cuddling up with the jacket as much as she could, it did start to do its job in keeping her warm. Jinx wasn't sure where they were going, thankfully, it seemed that Neo was more than aware the direction they were headed and followed her, much like a puppy followed its owner at the park.

The snow started to make it harder to see, thankfully, Jinx never managed to lose track of the other girl and, what made it easier was the fact that paired up with her, there was a small icon that she could use to track the other girl...Although, she frowned, why was there another symbol she could...Ohhh, that was the...quest huh?

"Neo...is that the cave just up ahead?" The girl asked, right as she opened up her inventory and brought out a hand-written book, and checked one of the pages. It was the stats of the monster written on it, and that's when it dawned on her. This monster would...kill her in two hits. She looked up at Neo, and felt a wave of guilt within her. They'd walked all this way, only to realise that Neo would either have to do all the work, or get just go back home...

Neo thankfully hadn't lost the girl on the way to the cave, and was also relieved to see that they weren't growing too cold on this floor. It was admittedly much colder than any other floor she had been to, but Neo had to have come here in order to get her familiar. The very same familiar that now floated down to rest itself on her shoulder. Neo nodded towards the girl to answer her question while also looking at how they were geared out. Neo wouldn't gain much from this quest, but they didn't seem ready for it either. Deciding it would be better to follow her in and make sure nothing came to hurt her, Neo gestured for Jinx to head into the cave. Her weapon was still concealed with her parasol, which was a contrasting black against the white snow, but it was ready to be drawn at a moment's notice. Hopefully this girl was at least a little bit prepared to take on the fight.

Jinx looked at the other girl, she was silent, but then again, that was her thing. Was it that she couldn't talk, or simply refused to? She wasn't sure, although, it wasn't her place to say. Instead, she checked her book and let out a slow breath. She knew the damage numbers, she just needed...to know.

"Neo, can i ask a question...? H-how much damage can you deal? The monster will...well, it will kill me in three hits" Jinx tried to push the fear out of her voice, but it was there, pulsating like her heart. She was afraid, because while she wanted to do this, if she died...everyone in the guild who was relying upon her would be left alone...protecting them was her job, her responsibility. She couldn't afford to fail them.

"The beast deals, 160 per hit...and it has...250 health...A-are you able to kill it, before it kills me?" It was an important question, after all, her life, quite literally, depended on it. If Neo was unable to, then, she'd have no choicebut to abandon this quest...

As the two made their way through the cave system, Neo could tell that the girl wasn't too ready for this quest. As she asked about how much damage Neo could do, she tried to run the numbers through her head. Math had never been her strong suit but she figured that if she did quite a bit of health in one hit, she could probably take the beast down in two hits. Unless she was lucky, she would only have the chance to get three or four of her sword arts in. However, she knew that this weapon would pull her along quite well with its blood-thirst, so she would be unlikely to miss unless she wanted to pull her attacks. Giving a quick thumbs up towards the girl, Neo realized just how trusting they were. If they were so ready to accept help from someone who they had only interacted with once before, they probably hadn't felt the sting of betrayal just yet. Not the Neo had either, but she knew what it was like to be ostracized for things out of one's control, no point calling the girl out on it.

@Jinx (start combat when you're ready, I don't need buffs)

The nod should have filled Jinx with confidence, and while it did, there was still...a lingering fear. What if Neo was wrong, what if she missed, what if her information was wrong? So much was banking on Neo knowing how strong she was, since...The Snow Beast was going to kill her in only a few hits, her life was truly on the line. The more she though about it, why hadn't she asked her guild to come with her?! That would have made so much sense!

"If you're sure then....I trust you Neo. My life is...quite literally, in your hands..." While it felt weird to say, it was far from the first time. So many times before, she had placed faith in her allies to keep her alive, to deal the damage she needed to be dealt. She tightened her grip on her Rapier, and entered the cave. The Snow Beast turned its eyes onto her, but the girl did not hesitate. She knew she wouldn't be able to afford to hesitate, to hesitate would...would be death. That's how it worked, or at least, what people had always said to her.

The girl, despite her large armour, had no hesitation and charged forwards, getting a strike against the Snowbeasts fur...Issue is, she brought almost no damage to the table. But surely Neo would clean it up.

((Been long enough, I barely know my own stats, lol))

The girl seemed worried, but that was understandable.  There wasn't much for Neo to do except let her try and fight on her own for a little bit before stepping in. As they began to fight the beast, Neo noticed that the girl could do little to no damage.. Deciding not to put off her own attack and risk the girl's life, Neo quickly charged up her blade and let loose one of her sword arts. It was a fairly heavy hitting move, involving several rapid thrusts against the creature. It reeled back as its health bar quickly dipped into the red. It was certainly not the tankiest of creatures, and one more hit would be enough to take it out. guiding it away from the girl, Neo glanced over to make sure she was ok. The beast was focused on Neo for the moment, but who knew how long that would actually be able to last.

Jinx blinked once, then again....Neo had taken so much of the monsters Hp away! It dropped from full health to ways in the red! H-how strong was she?! While the shock did hit her, it also calmed her heart significantly as, even in a dulled state, she knew she would survive without any issues. Jinx blinked once as the snow washes over her vision, and her hair is blown to make her nearly blind for only a few moments. Battering her hair out of her eye, she looked to see the Bear seemingly indecisive. Although...if Neo's attacked had crit like she thought it was...

"Who decided she was your target? Your focus...is on me!" The girls call was not loud, however the cold air carried her voice to the bear. She lowered her knee, and jammed the bottom of her shield into the snow, bracing against it. There was little chance this bear creature wasn't going to charge her, but she could take it...Her job was a tank and...she had to tank it. Neo had all the damage they needed, so now she just had to survive it. At least one hit...She had to, it was...her job!

Neo waited as the beast was circling with her. It wasn't going to be long before she could take this thing down. It wouldn't even take a full power attack to defeat this beast. But as she was getting ready to strike, Jinx called out to the beast and attracted its attention. SIlently cursing at her party member's stupidity, Neo had to run after the beast as it barreled down at Jinx. It leaped for the attack, but judged too high and missed the girl by inches. Relieved her teammate wasn't hurt, but still angry she couldn't get the kill just yet, Neo gave her a glare. Flicking her weapon through the air, Neo prepared to intercept the next attack. Jinx would likely still be the target, which meant if she stayed still Neo could tell exactly where the beast would go. If she moved, that would be another problem.

The white-haired tank was completely oblivous to what she'd done to her partners attack, unaware she'd made the fight last longer than it had to as she watched the Snow Beast eye her hungrily. Her mind, almost as if it were a person, tapped her on the shoulder. 'Two hits, three and you're done' It reminded her as she tried to keep focus, to beat away the fear that was eating away at her conviction to stand and fight. That's when it charged, and all that fear came crashing into her much like she feared the monster would. It was going to knock her over, rip her throat out...then it was gunna go after neo and...!

Go after her allies. For the girl, time seemed to stop as it finally dawned on her. She'd be so afraid to fight, because she would die. Wasn't that why she became a tank in the first place? To avoid death? But if that was the case, then...why was she here? Yelling at monsters? If she wasn't there, Neo would be the target...She couldn't allow that. Not while she had a single good eye to use! As the monster flew above her head, while the fear bloomed through her, there was something else. Something that made her feel...untouchable.

Completely oblivious to the glare of her ally, and feeling more confident, Jinx doubled down on her defensive position, and gave the monster glare of her own "I get it now...I have to be the front line...Even if i'm scared...Terrified, we all are scared...Being scared isn't the issue, it's letting that get the better of me...So that's it. I can be afraid, but against a monster like you, even if i'm scared...I will Hold firm!"

Action: Howl!

Neo watched as the girl continued to try to get the attention of the beast. Neo knew it was going to go for another charge, but couldn't tell if it was going to jump or not. Preparing a strike to land in reaction to it, she watched as it went high for another jump. Trying to jump up to meet it, it seemed that they had both aimed high. Neo went over the beast and had to flip to land the right way towards Jinx and the beast once more while the beast had once again gone over Jinx's head. It seemed that this was going to be the style of the creature. Knowing it would jump meant though that Neo would be able to capitalize on its simplistic AI. Once that happened, she knew that she would be able to find how to defeat it even quicker than she would've already. All she needed to do was land that first hit, then everything would fall into place from there.

Jinx let out a slow breath as the beast eyed her up hungrily...could it even eat her? If it won the fight, wouldn't she just, explode? The idea rolled in her mind for a bit before she dismissed it, if she died would it even matter? She pushed it away, she wasn't going to die ,that wasn't an option. Her guild needed her, her family needed.....needed her..to stay here.

Alisea Dariem shook her head, she couldnt' be...thinking about home. About the white walls of the few family photos her family, usually of just her parents when they were still happily married, that being the years before she came along and ruined their lives by being a disaster and burd...! The girl was pulled out of her thoughts and memories by the Snow Beast attacking her, however it somehow managed to miss despite the fact she was making no attempt to dodge! Hell, her shield was in the snow to make herself more sturdy from being knocked over.

Alisea risked throwing a look at her partner with her eye, before focusing on the beast...So far she hadn't taken any damage but...it would happen soon.

"Come on, i'm not even...dodging!" She taunted the snow beast. While a dumb decision, she wasn't certain how else she'd trigger her Taunt ability. Attacking the snowbeast was pointless, her Rapier did, well, no damage.

  • 2 weeks later...

The girl seemed pre-occupied with just trying to be of some use to the fight. Neo could admire that, as much as it was messing with it. But the benefit was she managed to inadvertently catch the AI in a loop. As soon as the beast leapt into the air, Neo was ready to meet it. Quickly starting with a single attack to the chest, black tendrils spread across in a cross pattern. Follwing the path of the tendrils, Neo quickly swiped to the left, then back to the right. The beast was hanging in the air. Swiping up, Neo followed it as it crashed into the ceiling of the cavern. With the final stroke, she brought it down into the ground. Though the beast's health bar was depleted, it did not shatter. The cross lingered above it, and it seemed to suck its essence away. The beast shriveled slowly into nothing as the cross grew darker. Once the beast was no more, Neo dismissed the cross by swiping through it with her rapier. The beast was very much dead, likely not to bother anyone for quite some time.

Jinx had braced herself against her shield, waiting for the Snow Beast to run into her! One of these attacks, it would connect...And her Thorns ability would do something to help in this fight. She would just have to wait...and hope Neo was able to land the killing before onto the beast before it landed it onto her. The snow felt a little cold to the couch, but thankfully, her heavy Black Rain armour kept her warm enough, plus the coat that Neo had  generously offered for her to use. The beast charged again, and Jinx tightened the grip on her shield...However Neo's strike hit first...

And Jinx was amazed at what happened to the Beast. Instead of the usual attack of a blade connecting and an explosion of pixels, Neopolitan's weapon made tendrils that restrained the beast?! She had never seen that before, never even heard of such a weapon!

"W-what was that!?" She couldn't keep the questions behind her mental 'wall' "I've never seen..a-anything like that, the way it didn't explode and..a-and the tendrils and the....What kind  of weapon do you have?"

Neo could tell that after her little show of power that the girl was in shock. She was not surprised about it, as she had seen that reaction many a time. Sending a message to the girl, Neo just picked up the reward for the quest and started to make her way out of the cave. The girl should know her way back and there didn't seem to be any sort of a snowstorm coming in. Neo had done all the help that she could and the girl would still get the experience of the quest. No point waiting for her before heading her own way out of here.

A weapon that was made to haunt the wielder. One given from that of a fallen priest. A priest so corrupt he thought he could save the world by bringing demons into it. I was the one who killed him and this is my reward for it. Pray that you never have to wield one of these weapons, for the toll it has given me has been one larger than I thought this game could ever give me.
