[BR - F24] Paving the way to Floor 25 (Floor 24 Boss Battle - Leviathan)

Recommended Posts

Only one, maybe two of the party members were vocal. That had to be for better at this point, and they were making progress as well. What idiot would let out their damning thoughts for the rest of the party to hear? Hm... Admittedly, Sey was actually impressed. No segments were popped, but Sey would smile when he say the Frostbite check come through yet again. Maybe there was hope for the frontlines after all, they were making calculated strikes and popping segments when needed rather than when possible. "Looks like we'll push through the storm at this rate. All right, let's continue this dance, Leviathan."

What a surprise, his skills and stats were locking yet again. And in turn, he would look towards the incoming Water Crystal. "Oh shoot, that's definitely a concern. And I'm unable to attack it... Damn." Because of the lock, he was unable to inflict any damage. His hate count was going to have to remain content with its current position. A shame, if he was able to aim correctly, he would have that crystal shattered quickly.

Seeing that the segment is low along with his health he decides to try and strike against the segment so he can try to get a heal off of this thing to make sure that he doesn't die from the rain downpouring against him. As he goes to strike out against the boss he feels the water around him condense and solidify stopping his movement as he can feel the annoyance and rage bubbling to the surface as a look of a caged mad dog starts to glimmer in his eyes. 'Every time. Every time i try to do something to strike at one of these things at a point when it matters i get entrapped by this cursed ice. I am going to enjoy seeing this reptile die by my blade i will make sure that is the case if it is the very last thing that i am able to do in this fight.' he thinks to himself as he glares towards the larger creature with nothing but contempt and a desire to see it burn alive.

Jomei groaned when he saw just a sliver of health remaining on his group's segment. Despite the damage he had done to it, it still was not nearly enough. The rain continued to pour, each droplet crashing into his body with some unexpected weight to it. "Dammit.." he said with an exhale as he dropped to a knee, feeling a bit hopeless with his own damage output. While the man knelt there, taking in a few deep breaths to calm his nerves, he could feel a cold mist falling on top of his shoulders, causing the hair on the back of his neck to stand, and the bangs in front of his face to begin to turn into icicles.

Picking up his head, Jomei could see the mist expelling from the Leviathan's mouth. "No no no.." he said to himself as he quickly got up and began to leap backwards, creating distance from the mist yet again. While he moved, the man used his free hand to brush the frost from his armor and hair.

Zandra saw the health of the segment was dropping. They had to take it down as soon as possible. She felt the cold wind from the dragons attack. She did the right choice when she swapped her gear. Yes, she lost a big lot of mitigation, as well as some defensive damage. But change that to bee guaranteed to act every turn, that was worth it. Something else thou that didn’t look as good. Her energy was running low. She threw a quick glance at water crystal that just spawned. She couldn’t spend energy on it. Hopefully someone else will crush it. Herself she, for the first time in a long time, used her second strongest attack. It felt good to see her energy only dropped half as much as it usually do. A quick glance on the others. She just hoped the others wont dislike her decision. She bit her lower lip when she saw the attack dealt much less then usually. Thou it got set ablaze and a poisonous cloud surrounded it. ‘’That will make some difference at least.’’ She mumbled quietly to herself.

As Itzal also attacked and answered her comment about scouting ahead, she nooded. ‘’Im going to need to get some stuff from home thou. As soon as this guy is dead, Im going to use my tp crystal. Lets meet at the new teleport plaza two hours after boss is dead. Okay?’’ she looked at him waiing for an answer.

The fight went on, and Itzal was beginning to feel like this was turning into the dragon boss all over again.  Sighing he heard Zandra answer his question.  He nodded with a chuckle.  "Search for the labyrinth immediately afterwards then.  Got it.  And yeah, I have a teleport crystal.  I promised you that I wouldn't die didn't I?"  He smiled to her.  "I intend to keep that promise."  He watched her charge for the segment but his smile dropped when the water crystal spawned in.  [censored], she didn't see it.  Itzal rushed over to the crystal and tried to land a solid hit, but his blade merely bounced off of it.  Maybe he attacked the entity too soon?  That didn't even make sense.  Sighing he turned to tell Domarus to strike next when he saw the man was frozen.  He turned to Ariel.  "Hey Ariel!  Use that mass damage your proud of on that water crystal before it heals the boss!"  He was careful to use his american accent as he had been doing, to ensure Ariel didn't recognize him.  He wondered what she'd think of him if she ever found out he burned the clothes she made him to cinders...

So much was happening but at the same time so little.  This fight was dragging on longer than he believed it should too.  Even worse, a water crystal had spawned and Zandra didn't strike it.  Itzal failed to deal any damage to it.  And he was...  Well he was frozen.  It sucked, he hated it, but he had to deal with it.  Mentally sighing he wished he wasn't this useless.  Even when he wasn't frozen he wasn't dealing the best damage.  Sure he was still helping, but not by much.  He snapped out of it, knowing he had to focus on his assignment and not his lack of aid.  This was going to be a long fight and they were on it's last bar.  He had to do his best.  He needed to be ready for when he was free.

It seemed that luck wasn't going to cut out for the Ultramarine Knight as Calrex felt his virtual muscles starting to become free, only to slowly lock up once again as Leviathan unleashed another wave of its Frostbite attack. A mere condensed breath escaped his lips with part of a word, "Sunv....."

With that he was unable to move once again, and from what he could gather from his brief seconds free, it means that once he was able to move again the boss would be able to release the attack once more, "So...this literally could mean that this boss was designed to exploit Achilles' new weakness. If it is, then I can easily call that a targeted debuff. If Cardinal really is a self-evolving and developing AI, then seems to have a serious bone to pick with me in particular. Tch, well even if I was contemplating going into retirement at some point there would be no way I could entrust this skill to someone else with confidence. The only way someone can survive with this is to have a massive level advantage, because if they were of average level they could be easily still be taken down with stunlock and DoT tactics, especially with the prominence of damage dealing advantages, and it certainly seems that there is a trend among the bosses that revolves around one or both of those mechanics. Stun may be the only one that can't be used in this, since everyone does have a stun immunity after breaking out, but the other action-wasting inflictions don't that. I'm really going to need to take a look at my equipment now and if it comes to it I might have to develop a set that is specialized against those."

Left and right, what remained of their raid squad we're getting frozen in place. She took was under that effect more times than she was comfortable to admit it. She gritted her teeth, closed her eyes and let her icy imprisonment up to chance. Despite her willpower and her best attempts to 'evade' the attack, it simply overwhelmed her most of the times. Dropping her stance, she made a gamble that she wouldn't usually take and embraced the cold wave that swept past her. "Huh?" she muttered, half opening her eyes to confirm that her hands we're able to move.

A small grin covered her expression before hearing a shout directed at her. With a small nod she raised her 10 feet spear high above her head, letting the white lion banner dance freely in the winds as she tried to rally the rest of the raid team to attack. "We got this! Let's turn this guy into snake soup!" She added with a battle cry then dashed towards the water crystal and with a rapid succession of four stabs followed by a finishing thrust, the water crystals turned to pixelated remains.

Looking between both Neo and the other tier two players only leaves myself with one option in the long run when it comes down towards it, so feeling rather just stuck with very little options i quickly go towards Neo and activates first aid. Leaving a green aura to surround her for a breathe moment as her health recovers enough to last at least another shot of this run coming down upon the entire battle field. 'i really hope that Neo can hit the segment, or Hikoru if he didn't leave this entire fight. It is really hard to tell when he just decides to stealth mid fight.' I think to myself as i just wait patiently and glance towards Calrex who is entirely frozen and unable to do anything once more for a few turns due to whatever reason the ice on him is extra strong. Glancing towards the other team i see Ariel managing to destroy the water crystal as i just nod my head with a grin since that at least means the boss won't get a turn of healing while everybody is entirely frozen.

OOC Announcements:

Spoiler

Hikoru has been removed from the fight. A reminder that this is not a death, but does render you ineligible for boss rewards at the end of the fight. You are still able to receive thread rewards though and may interact after the fight if such interactions occur.

Players have 72 hours to post

[Deadline is Wednesday 6/5/2019 @ 2:30 PM]

As the water crystal shattered at the blonde's sword-strike, the party nearby her was rejuvenated by its healing waters instead of the leviathan. But before any celebration could occur, a new water crystal formed, picking up a body hiding behind a rock with it in the watery debris.

The leviathan roared as it spewed water at the players who were frozen. As the one who wasn't breaking out of the ice was buffeted, the rain poured down on all the others, soaking their armor and whittling down what little health was remaining on some of them. It wouldn't be long before the first death would be at hand. The question was now who would be the one to die at the leviathan's hand.

The sea behind the leviathan was stormy, but seemed to be waiting for something. What that could be was unclear, but it was lying in wait as the leviathan cast its will across the battlefield. It would make its show soon, but for now the creature of the deep could have the spotlight.

Room Effect: Torrential Rain
A terrible storm rages on the seas, growing worse by the minute. At the start of each of Leviathan's turns, players are progressively hindered. Those with the <<Survival>> skill active take reduced penalties (noted in brackets). ACC and EVA reductions only last for the rotation they were applied:

Rotation 1: 50 mitigatable DMG [25 mitigatable DMG]
Rotation 2: 100 mitigatable DMG [50 mitigatable DMG]
Rotation 3: 150 mitigatable DMG and reduces EVA by 1 for a turn [75 mitigatable DMG]
Rotation 4: 200 mitigatable DMG and reduces ACC and EVA by 1 for a turn [125 mitigatable DMG and reduces EVA by 1 for a turn]
Rotation 5+: 250 mitigatable DMG and reduces ACC and EVA by 2 for a turn [175 mitigatable DMG and reduces ACC and EVA by 1 for a turn]

<<Leviathan>>
[
                    ]
[                    ]
[                    ]
0 MIT | 0 ACC | -2 EVA | 14 PD
Takes double damage from all sources excluding Burn damage.
Leviathan is out of reach and unable to be targeted except for howl, focused howl, and other abilities that only generate hate until one of her Segments are downed.

Passive:  Queen's Ire
Applies to a player when they deal damage to Leviathan. Reduces all sources of health and energy restoration by half (rounded down, to a minimum of 0). Destroying a Segment immediately removes Queen's Ire from its assigned party.

Ability 1: Hydro Jet
[Uses every turn]
An attack that pierces through the toughest of hides, the sturdiest of ships, and densest of armor. Leviathan rears back and launches a jet of concentrated water at the player with the highest hate. Deals 500 DMG and reduces the hate of that player against Leviathan by 3. On a non-critical hit, a player may choose to expend 5 energy at the start of their turn to ignore this hate reduction.

Ability 2: Frostbite (1/2 CD)
[2 Turn CD]
Leviathan breathes deeply, unleashing a wave of extreme frost over the area that coats players and solidifies into ice (Note that this does not take an attack roll to hit; this attack will ignore, but not interrupt, stealth; this attack does not proc thorns). At the start of the players' next turn, they must roll with the purpose "Frostbite" (This is not a post action and should be rolled after scald if applicable). On a LD 1-14, they suffer from the Freeze condition until the start of their next turn (Removes their action on the current turn and removes all EVA properties. If they are hit by a successful attack before the effect ends they take an additional 40 unmitigatable Frost DMG.). A frozen player's base DMG is reduced by 3 for one turn after the freeze effect ends (this is negated if the effect was purified). The following allow bonuses to this LD roll or ignore the effect:

  • +3 for having the <<Survival>> skill active.
  • +2 for having the Flame Aura, Flame Thorns, or Burn enhancements equipped. (Can only apply once per roll, burn effects granted from consumables do not apply)
  • +1 for every 2 EVA the player has.
  • Having the Antifreeze makes the player automatically succeed the check.
  • Suffering from the Burn effect from Scald makes the player automatically succeed the check.

Additional notes: This will proc anti-oxidants and antidotes before the roll. If a player neglects to roll for this effect, the boss will make the roll at a -5 penalty (and will apply retroactively). And though it is stated earlier, once again, this does not cost a post action. I will know you aren't reading these abilities if you ask me if it takes a post action. You cannot quick change to gain immunity either, as it takes place at the start of your turn.

Ability 3: Scald (1/3 CD)
[3 Turn CD] (starts on cooldown)
A sphere of heated volcanic ocean water is lobbed and splashes against all players in the party. Deals 100 unmitigatable DMG to the player with the highest hate, 50 unmitigatable DMG to the player with the second highest hate, and 25 unmitigatable DMG to all others (Note that this does not take an attack roll to hit; this attack will ignore, but not interrupt, stealth; this attack does not proc thorns). At the start of the players' next turn, they must roll with the purpose "Scald" (This is not a post action, and should be rolled before frostbite if applicable). On a LD 15+, their base DMG is reduced by 1 for one round. On a LD 1-14, they suffer from Burn, taking 40 unmitigatable Fire DMG at the beginning of their turn for two turns (This is affected by the snowfrost effect). The following allow bonuses to this LD roll or ignore the effect:

  • +3 for having the <<Survival>> skill active.
  • +2 for having the Frost Aura, Frost Thorns, or Freeze enhancements equipped. (Can only apply once per roll, freeze effects granted from consumables do not apply)
  • +1 for every 2 EVA the player has.
  • Having the Fireproof enhancement makes the player automatically succeed the check.
  • Suffering from the Freeze effect from Frostbite makes the player automatically succeed the check.

<<Segment 1>>
[                    ]
50 MIT | 2 EVA

AoE attacks cannot include more than one segment. Though they die and respawn, Segments cannot be affected by Charge more than once, and effects like debuffs will continue to affect a downed/respawned Segment.
One segment is assigned to each party. When a Segment is destroyed, Leviathan lurches forward and becomes targetable for 1 turn for all parties (stacks with other segments being destroyed). The destroyed Segment immediately respawns with a set of Sahagin adds. These Sahagin only target players in the party that they are assigned to and can only be targeted by players that they are assigned to. A respawned Segment has the <<Diamond Dust>> buff until all paired adds are killed.
Ability 1: Diamond Dust - Leviathan’s scales shimmer like diamonds. A Segment with the <<Diamond Dust>> buff is immune to damage.

At the start of Leviathan's turn, each living Water Crystal heals Leviathan for 3% of its max HP. When a Water Crystal is destroyed, its corresponding party gains the <<Hydrated>> buff.
Ability 1: Hydrated: Instantly restores 25% of total energy (ignores queen's ire). Passive energy restoration is tripled and the effect of the Recovery enhancement is doubled for 1 turn.

Not wasting time he quickly moves forward after the ice melts off of him as he rushes forward towards the segment and quickly slams his blade into the segment as it moves away as its health hits zero. The group being greeted with Shahagin and now a water crystal for their actions on top of everything with his actions as he just nods his head accepting this since now he can actually get healed properly by the healer of the group, and then promptly just play the minions killing game to try and gain some more ground in this fight without risking his own life in this whole affair. Backpedaling from the groups of mobs that will be trying to kill him possible he leaves this entirely towards the tanks that can actually take this kind of hit and thus allow him to live to see another day hopefully.

with the death of the segment by the tier two player i waste very little time as i quickly activate field medic as a green aura surrounds the entire team as the health values of the two lowest members shoot out to around the halfway marker as i nod my head with a rather happy smile when seeing this. As even Jomei, and Calrex get some health as well, but sadly it seems Hikoru left for his own safety as his name disappears from the roster of players that are within this boss fight as a soft sigh escapes my lips at the sight of that. 'oh well just something to continue fighting through that is the sixth person that had to leave now which is starting to show i think at this point.' I think to myself as i keep my calm and looks towards the black haired katana user and the pinkette rapier user and hopes that the duo know what they are doing that will allow them to stay in the fight for as long as it is possible for them with these kinds of conditions.

Still Chilling

+93 Battle Healing
1 Energy Recovered / 143 Remaining

Still under the effects of the Frostbite infliction for its extended period the only indicator that Calrex was still alive beneath the reflective powdery white exterior was the intermittent condensed breaths that escaped from beneath his expressionless helm. However it was starting to wear off as thin pieces of ice began to fall off of his armor, the deep blue beneath starting to come back into full view.

"At this point I would prefer the volcanic water over this, because then at least I can still act."

As more seconds ticked by his virtual muscles began to loosen once again, his body slowly starting to move like it was skipping frames in a video. Once he was free he was planning to take action, but at this point it was also going to be determined whether or not Leviathan was going to attempt another freezing attack. From what the bluenette could tell, the boss had a cooldown window for the attack, but was the exact period of time he would be frozen if he was unable to escape it.

The frozen check was about to damn them until Ariel ended up pulling a clutch for the party, a satisfied smirk  coming from his lips as that stupid crystal shattered. Looks like they weren't dealing with that hell today. "Nice nice, actually... Really nice. All right, we're nearly about to pull it out of the water, I'll make sure to keep a fool stupid and hate on me." With that, he would scroll through his list of skills yet again before tapping a skill he had yet to tap for a while. A lovely little skill that would keep the Hydro pumps at bay. <<Focused Howl>>. Leviathan tried to throw another Hydro pump at Sey yet again, but it was unable to catch him. His health was slowly regaining from the initial barrage before. "And just like that, you're going to sink. Any last words, Leviathan? Or perhaps you might take your very last chance to surrender." Both party's segments were about to be popped, Leviathan was as good as theirs. And what a lovely time that will be.

The ginger looked between his party members with a bit of worry, they were either rendered frozen by the Leviathan's attacks, or failing to strike true at the scaled segment they needed to destroy. As he continued to look around, he noticed that Hikoru was missing. Normally, the man would just be hidden in stealth, waiting to strike.. but he noticed his name had also been removed from the party list. "Guess Hikoru bailed out too.." he said with a sharp breath, knowing that things would be a bit tougher without the Master of Shadows' heavy damage. Taking another look at his party list, he saw that Mars and Neo were both running dangerously low on health. The man bit his lip, not wanting to see either of the players bite the dust during this fight. Hestia, luckily, was able to heal a decent chunk of their health, as well as his own. "Thank you." he said to the woman, before turning to the newly spawned water crystal. "Oh no you don't." Jomei said, spinning his sword in his hand and rushing forward at the strange entity. After dragging his sword through the sand, the blade ignited in a golden light as Over Radiation activated, dealing a good amount of damage to the healing crystal.

Neo saw as the group was able to start finishing things off. It was nice to see them finally moving for once. Though Calrex was still stuck in his frost, Hestia was able to take up her role and get some healing around, bringing Neo narrowly back into the green on her health bar. Once that had occurred, she quickly moved forward in an attempt to finish off the crystal Jomei had struck at. Hopefully it wouldn't get the chance to give the leviathan its healing properties. If it did, she likely wouldn't make it to the end of the fight. There was the chance that something else would come, but Neo knew that she would be able to hang in there and do as much possible damage as she could before she had to leave from the fight. Her blade connected, and the crystal shuddered from the blow. It had not even seen her coming, assuming it even had eyes in the first place. She just hoped that she could keep this up.

OOC Announcements:

Spoiler

Scald goes first, I messed up the last time this happen

Players have 74 hours to post

[Deadline is Saturday 6/8/2019 @ 5:30 PM]

The leviathan let out a roar in slight desperation. These players that were getting low refused to die off. They were so persistent with their health that they refused to just get finished off. The rain poured down on top of them, keeping their health low, but they were still standing. The other players were barely feeling hurt at this point. It was frustrating to see them standing so tall at the moment, but the leviathan was ready to start whittling them down when he had to. They wouldn't be able to keep this up that long. They would eventually tire. And when they did, the sea would be ready to claim them.

More sahagin crawled out of their hidey-holes as the beach grew slick with pools of water. They were snarling with rage at their leaders weakening. Those who did not heed the call of their challenge would likely find themselves on the wrong end of a very pointy stick.

Last Round's Results:

Boss Stats:

Spoiler

[
                    ]
[                    ]

Ability 2: Frostbite (2/2 CD)

Ability 3: Scald (3/3 CD)

Ability 4: --

Assigned to party 1:

Spoiler

<<Segment 1>> [Diamond Dust]

<<Water Crystal 1>>
[                    ]
Spawn when Leviathan reaches 50% HP. Respawn every 3 Turns after they are killed at the end of leviathan's turn.
0 MIT | 4 EVA
One crystal is assigned to each party. Only the assigned party may target the water crystal. Hate is not gained against water crystals.

Seeing the fighting happening around me i quickly watch as the latest minions get thrown into the fight, and without calrex to take them there is really only one option that i can do in this situation. Activating howl myself i take as much of the hate that i can towards myself as i slam the pommel of my sword against my shield ringing a metallic clang around the battlefield to attract the attention towards myself. Well that'll get me the hate so nobody has to get hit except for myself in this situation. I say softly towards myself as i notice the Leviathan turning towards myself as well as Calrex gets hit by a hydro jet as i just sigh softly and prepare for losing health once more. With my shield towards towards the direction of the Shahagin primarily i just prepare myself for the beating that i am going to take unless some people deal with the minions.

Seeing the approaching Shahagin spawned from the death of the segment he activates his only AoE sword art he has willing to do something about them while the others focus down the enemy as he rushes forward towards the group. His blade igniting in a red light as he quickly slashes into each of the four enemies his blade catching their form. He then quickly activates his blade and strikes into the four repeatedly as their health values decrease significantly, and hopefully enough to end their life. However, he doesn't feel like running the risk of possibly dying from the enemy, so he makes a quick retreat backwards away from the enemy backpedaling away from them. Glancing towards the other party members as the icy breathe crashes upon the field freezing people or others catching fire. Himself seemingly having escaped from it entirely unharmed.
