[BR - F24] Paving the way to Floor 25 (Floor 24 Boss Battle - Leviathan)

Recommended Posts

With the death of the water crystal and that relatively speaking everyone's in rather decent shape overall i take my breather where i can as i take some calming breathes as i take note of the situation that we are now in as i gaze towards the leviathan knowing that the ice attack is going to be bothersome. As i am rather upset at the fact that if only i had prepared my curved sword i could be actually helping now instead of just only biding my time and waiting for things to progress to a point where helping out once more is a viable strategy towards keeping others alive better. 'No energize needed at the very least with this group meaning i can just relax on that part mainly for like forever.' I think to myself with a small sigh even then as i just wait with shield in hand as i can only do my best to prepare for the next frostbite, or scald attack that will be sent towards myself from the giant snake creature.

Jomei felt a wave of relief as he finally broke from the ice that encased him. The Leviathan still circled the players, leaving them all wondering who was going to be its next target. As it began to slow, Jomei realized its piercing red eyes were traced on him. Rows of sharp teeth peaked from the corners of its mouth, where water began to accumulate and drop to the sand. "[censored]" Jomei cursed under his breath, turning around and running in the opposite direction as the Leviathan lowered its head and released a powerful stream of water in the ginger's direction. Rushing to the other end of the battle field, Jomei planted his foot into the boss' scaled body and ran up a couple of feet to avoid the attack. With a back flip, the man landed in the sand again with a three point landing, his blade held out to the side. Pushing off of his knee, Jomei shot forward and began to strike at the weakened segment of the Leviathan once again, hoping to do just enough damage to make their enemy targetable again.

Attack Roll:
ID: 121723
Segment 1: 9 (+1 Damage) // (16 +1) * 15 - 50 = 205 Damage)

Sword Art <<All Might>> Activated (17 Energy Used / 159 Remaining)

+93 Battle Healing - 80 Fire Damage (Doubled due to Achilles) = +13 Battle Healing

Cooldowns:
Quick Change: 2/3
Disguise: 3/3

As his health slowly gained a bit more health, Calrex watched as his green bar climbed to...almost full. There appeared to be a pixel width of space between, meaning he was just about there, "Well at least the Burn is wearing off this round..."

Looking forward it looked as if Hestia needed to take a break, most likely from having to focus on healing and lending people energy this whole time. "Guess it's still rough being a healer tank, especially because of the constant energy consumption. Maybe I'll have to see about becoming more self sufficient in that aspect somehow, at least as long as I've got the reserves to do so..."

Watching Jomei rush forward the blunette's eyes locked onto the Leviathan's own as it appeared to target the ginger-headed duelist, "Can't let that happen."

Lowering his body he felt <<All Might>> quickly build to maximum strength as his arm seemed to look almost like he had strapped a jet engine to it, from the amount of Sword Art energy being blasted out from the top of his gauntlet. Shooting forward he quickly climbed up to the massive serpent's segment, arm drawn back before slamming it dead on into the piece, a red number flashing by signifying a critical hit, "Hopefully that does the trick."

Leaping back he gave a small sigh, looking over as he watched the floor boss' gaze travel onto him, "That's right, better keep your eyes on me."

Itzal watched helplessly through the layers of ice that encased him.  Eventually the ice finally began to crack and he shattered it, rushing at the segment full of hate of this boss, this fight, and his luck.  He didn't roar or anything, and he wasn't wild in his attacks either.  But it would be clear to all these experienced players that he was channeling all of his hate through his blade.  The weapon pierced it's scales under the sword art's glow until it had dealt it's damage.  Not nearly enough in Itzal's mind, but it was still something.  When he returned to the group he turned to Calrex.  "I can't imagine what it must feel like for you," he said to the tank in his American accent, referencing the constant freezing over and over again.  At any rate he was freed now, and that's what counted.  Hopefully they'd all remain thawed out when the boss was vulnerable again...

Neo decided to hang back for the moment. Her health wasn't in the greatest of spots, and though her energy was being refilled, she felt as though she was teetering on the edge of being able to do nothing for quite some time now. The others were attacking the segment of the boss that was weaker than the rest, and she felt she might actually kill it if she went for the attack. Knowing it was about time for another wave of frost to swipe over the battlefield, she decided it would be best not to waste their precious time to strike the boss itself with being frozen. They should be able to finish it off. There were no other distractions at the moment, they could focus whatever wasn't frozen onto the segment in front of them. That would hopefully be enough to finish everything off. If it wasn't, Neo wasn't sure what they would do next.

Players have 72 hours to post

[Deadline is Sunday, August 18th @ 10:30 AM]

The circling continued, and the leviathan waited for something to happen. As the players went for part of its body, they quickly breathed a wave of cold over the battlefield. Just a little preventative measure to make sure they didn't think she was gone from the fight. It would only be a matter of time before the ocean would give its reinforcements. Perhaps even stronger than before. At this rate though, the players didn't seem to have even the slightest twinges of hope at defeating them. This fight was going on too long. They would eventually tire, their energy gone. And when that time came, they would have to run away or be run over.

The clouds started to come back, and though the ray of hopeful sunlight was closed off, the rain did not start again. The light was overcast with ominous tides, but it was not gone forever.

Room Effect: Torrential Rain
A terrible storm rages on the seas, growing worse by the minute. At the start of each of Leviathan's turns, players are progressively hindered. Those with the <<Survival>> skill active take reduced penalties (noted in brackets). ACC and EVA reductions only last for the rotation they were applied:

Rotation 1: 50 mitigatable DMG [25 mitigatable DMG]
Rotation 2: 100 mitigatable DMG [50 mitigatable DMG]
Rotation 3: 150 mitigatable DMG and reduces EVA by 1 for a turn [75 mitigatable DMG]
Rotation 4: 200 mitigatable DMG and reduces ACC and EVA by 1 for a turn [125 mitigatable DMG and reduces EVA by 1 for a turn]
Rotation 5+: 250 mitigatable DMG and reduces ACC and EVA by 2 for a turn [175 mitigatable DMG and reduces ACC and EVA by 1 for a turn]

<<Leviathan>>  (Targetable for 0 turn(s))
[
                    ]
[                    ]
[                    ]
0 MIT | 0 ACC | -2 EVA | 14 PD
Takes double damage from all sources excluding Burn damage.
Leviathan is out of reach and unable to be targeted except for howl, focused howl, and other abilities that only generate hate until one of her Segments are downed.

Passive:  Queen's Ire
Applies to a player when they deal damage to Leviathan. Reduces all sources of health and energy restoration by half (rounded down, to a minimum of 0). Destroying a Segment immediately removes Queen's Ire from its assigned party.

Ability 1: Hydro Jet
[Uses every turn]
An attack that pierces through the toughest of hides, the sturdiest of ships, and densest of armor. Leviathan rears back and launches a jet of concentrated water at the player with the highest hate. Deals 500 DMG and reduces the hate of that player against Leviathan by 3. On a non-critical hit, a player may choose to expend 5 energy at the start of their turn to ignore this hate reduction.

Ability 2: Frostbite (2/2 CD)
[2 Turn CD]
Leviathan breathes deeply, unleashing a wave of extreme frost over the area that coats players and solidifies into ice (Note that this does not take an attack roll to hit; this attack will ignore, but not interrupt, stealth; this attack does not proc thorns). At the start of the players' next turn, they must roll with the purpose "Frostbite" (This is not a post action and should be rolled after scald if applicable). On a LD 1-14, they suffer from the Freeze condition until the start of their next turn (Removes their action on the current turn and removes all EVA properties. If they are hit by a successful attack before the effect ends they take an additional 40 unmitigatable Frost DMG.). A frozen player's base DMG is reduced by 3 for one turn after the freeze effect ends (this is negated if the effect was purified). The following allow bonuses to this LD roll or ignore the effect:

  • +3 for having the <<Survival>> skill active.
  • +2 for having the Flame Aura, Flame Thorns, or Burn enhancements equipped. (Can only apply once per roll, burn effects granted from consumables do not apply)
  • +1 for every 2 EVA the player has.
  • Having the Antifreeze makes the player automatically succeed the check.
  • Suffering from the Burn effect from Scald makes the player automatically succeed the check.

Additional notes: This will proc anti-oxidants and antidotes before the roll. If a player neglects to roll for this effect, the boss will make the roll at a -5 penalty (and will apply retroactively). And though it is stated earlier, once again, this does not cost a post action. I will know you aren't reading these abilities if you ask me if it takes a post action. You cannot quick change to gain immunity either, as it takes place at the start of your turn.

Ability 3: Scald (1/3 CD)
[3 Turn CD] (starts on cooldown)
A sphere of heated volcanic ocean water is lobbed and splashes against all players in the party. Deals 100 unmitigatable DMG to the player with the highest hate, 50 unmitigatable DMG to the player with the second highest hate, and 25 unmitigatable DMG to all others (Note that this does not take an attack roll to hit; this attack will ignore, but not interrupt, stealth; this attack does not proc thorns). At the start of the players' next turn, they must roll with the purpose "Scald" (This is not a post action, and should be rolled before frostbite if applicable). On a LD 15+, their base DMG is reduced by 1 for one round. On a LD 1-14, they suffer from Burn, taking 40 unmitigatable Fire DMG at the beginning of their turn for two turns (This is affected by the snowfrost effect). The following allow bonuses to this LD roll or ignore the effect:

  • +3 for having the <<Survival>> skill active.
  • +2 for having the Frost Aura, Frost Thorns, or Freeze enhancements equipped. (Can only apply once per roll, freeze effects granted from consumables do not apply)
  • +1 for every 2 EVA the player has.
  • Having the Fireproof enhancement makes the player automatically succeed the check.
  • Suffering from the Freeze effect from Frostbite makes the player automatically succeed the check.

Ability 4: Tsunami
[Acitvates once when Leviathan reaches 20% or lower Health]
Leviathan, all Segments, Water Crystals, and any remaining Sahagin retreat. Torrential Rain is disabled, and remains inactive for the remainder of the fight. Leviathan takes no action for two turns. On the third rotation, the Tsunami strikes, dealing each player 50% of their current HP in unmitigatable damage (Note that this does not take an attack roll to hit; this attack will ignore, but not interrupt stealth; this attack does not proc thorns).

<<Segment>>
[                    ]
50 MIT | 2 EVA

AoE attacks cannot include more than one segment. Though they die and respawn, Segments cannot be affected by Charge more than once, and effects like debuffs will continue to affect a downed/respawned Segment.
One segment is assigned to each party. When a Segment is destroyed, Leviathan lurches forward and becomes targetable for 1 turn for all parties (stacks with other segments being destroyed). The destroyed Segment immediately respawns with a set of Sahagin adds. These Sahagin only target players in the party that they are assigned to and can only be targeted by players that they are assigned to. A respawned Segment has the <<Diamond Dust>> buff until all paired adds are killed.
Ability 1: Diamond Dust - Leviathan’s scales shimmer like diamonds. A Segment with the <<Diamond Dust>> buff is immune to damage.

One crystal is assigned to each party. Only the assigned party may target the water crystal. Hate is not gained against water crystals. At the start of Leviathan's turn, each living Water Crystal heals Leviathan for 3% of its max HP. When a Water Crystal is destroyed, its corresponding party gains the <<Hydrated>> buff.
Ability 1: Hydrated: Instantly restores 25% of total energy (ignores queen's ire). Passive energy restoration is tripled and the effect of the Recovery enhancement is doubled for 1 turn.

The Leviathan released another breath of cold air over the remaining frontliners as the coil it created around them seemed to shrink down to accommodate their smaller size. There was less room to run from the impending freeze, however Jomei was able to anticipate the attack this time and create as much distance as he physically could from the frigid mist as it slowly descended upon the players. Once it had run its course, Jomei turned to the offensive yet again. There was nothing holding him back, no damage reductions or other stat changing effects that lingered on him. It was one of the first times he had a completely open shot for the goal. Pushing off the dark, soaked sand, the ginger pushed forward through his allies, leaping into the air and driving his rapier deep into the hide of the Leviathan once again. With frustration behind each swing, Jomei followed through the sword art, ripping the weakened segment of the Leviathan's body to shreds. "Hopefully that should be enough to make this boss vulnerable again.." he said to himself under his breath.

I just smile as this is going rather well as i see jomei strike at the segment and just nod my head knowing that it's going ot be a now or never kinda moment if this works in our favor. Glancing towards Cal and the two others i can only hope that they can withstand the ice as i feel it impact against my shield as i manage to get rather lucky and resist the negative effects of it as my shield is once more turned into a expensive chunk of ice. Though nonetheless i can still do nothing and just relax and let the battle happen around me as i just wait and see what'll be needed from me be it healing, energy, or taking the hate from my teammates. 'i should aim for any shahagin that spawn that'll cut down on the damage dealt to others.' I think to myself with a nod of my head having at least a small battle plan now.

The segment was damaged but not destroyed.  Unfortunately for Itzal, he'd be able to do absolutely nothing to help damage it further.  Itzal, before he could strike it, was frozen on the spot, yet again.  Why?  He had high evasion and had been avoiding this most of the time.  Why on earth was he getting frozen so many times now?  Was this God trying to say something?  He had no idea what.  All he knew was that he was standing here pissed off in a frozen prison, forced to watch everyone else continue to fight or prepare for when the segment shattered and they could hit the boss.

Itzal had better land that DoT effect...

Jomei was able to hit the segment, and it was so low Neo just hung back, ready to attack the boss when it opened itself for an attack. It was only a matter of time before it would become vulnerable and they needed to get whatever damage they could against it. Hopefully whatever they did would be more than enough to counteract the water crystal's healing. It was target-able so little that they basically had to out damage the thing that they couldn't seem to take out that well.

Hestia seemed to be doing their best to recover energy as well, whereas Itzal was frozen and Calrex was doing nothing. Hopefully he would snap out of it soon, as they needed him to be tanking as best as he can. They would only be able to stay like this for so long if they weren't all on the ball.

Players have 72 hours to post

[Deadline is Wednesday, august 21st, at 11:00 PM]

As the players rushed against the segment of the boss, the leviathan was preparing her attack for them. As soon as the part of them shattered, a roar escaped from the boss as it came crashing down with a small wave of scalding hot water. As the waves crashed against the players, the head of the leviathan swooped through the arena it had created. The smallest window of opportunity to strike at it. As soon as it was crossed over to the other side, its neck acted as a slide to let 6 more sahagin into the arena. They had found their opportunity in the ones being frozen and quickly went to work in picking up an offensive formation. It wasn't going to be long before they were attacking the players, who were now left with a choice of targets. Attack the boss and try to come closer to finishing this, or defend their own skins.

Last Round's Results:

<<Leviathan>>  (Targetable for 1 turn(s))
[
                    ]
[                    ]

Ability 2: Frostbite (1/2 CD)

Ability 3: Scald (3/3 CD)

<<Segment>> [Diamond Dust]

<<Water Crystal>>
[                    ]
Spawn when Leviathan reaches 50% HP. Respawn every 3 Turns after they are killed at the end of leviathan's turn.
0 MIT | 4 EVA
One crystal is assigned to each party. Only the assigned party may target the water crystal. Hate is not gained against water crystals. At the start of Leviathan's turn, each living Water Crystal heals Leviathan for 3% of its max HP. When a Water Crystal is destroyed, its corresponding party gains the <<Hydrated>> buff.
Ability 1: Hydrated: Instantly restores 25% of total energy (ignores queen's ire). Passive energy restoration is tripled and the effect of the Recovery enhancement is doubled for 1 turn.

Cooldowns:
Quick Change: 3/3

"What what was I just..."

As the frost particles fell over the battlefield once again Calrex had a lapse in his focus, likely from so many of the past Frostbite effects. Unfortunately, it was the most inopportune time to lose attention. A single snowflake landed against his paundrol and immediate began to cover his entire armor with a layer of frost. Cursing under his breath the bluenette glanced up into his peripherals, seeing the Frostbite effect solidify underneath his health bar once again, "Come on that was a terrible time to lose focus...Especially with the current situation..."

His eyes locked on the sahagin that were spawning once again, peeking at his cooldowns to see Quick Change had just become useable again, his mind considering his next move, which was likely going to be switching to axe and activating an area of effect Sword Art to hopefully clear out majority of the mobs. "I guess it was still basically a tossup on whether or not I would have been able to dodge that frost effect again."

I grin as the leviathan shoots out it's boiling water and only just that since it means that it's now or never in this assault as i quickly slam the pommel of my blade against my shield as i activate howl gathering as much hate as i can against the enemies that'd probably cause the most trouble to us all. Come and face me you stupid face and realize that you can never kill me! I shout towards the enemies trying to just play off as much confident as i can muster in the simple hopes that it will get them away from the more vulnerable people like neo or jomei. Glancing towards the rest of the group i just nod my head. Just take out the leviathan if we can kill it we probably automatically kill these shahagin nothing to worry about! I shout over towards them as i raise my shield and walks closer towards the shahagin so they have to run past me first.

With his last strike, the weakened armor of the Leviathan’s hide shattered, lowering the behemoth’s head towards the battlefield once again. As the frontlinere prepared for their onslaught, the scuttered noises of Sahagin could be heard crawling over their master’s body. The ginger’s focus was nearly lost for a moment when the Leviathan shot another powerful blast aimed at Jomei. Fearing for the full damage the attack would bring, Jomei dove out of the way, just missing the possibly devastating strike. Quickly picking himself back up, Jomei rushed at the Leviathan and activated Over Radiation yet again. “Everyone! Nows our chance to do some real damage!”

FINALLY, the frost began to break.  Itzal pushed with all of his might until the ice shattered around him.  His blade found it's way into the ground below him as he leaned against it for a second.  He glared at the boss.  "Alright, I've lost all patience."  He rushed at the boss and thrust his blade into it's body past it's scales.  He drove it as deep as he could before he slashed upward.  He gave another few strikes for good measure and would continue to strike at the stupid thing until it finally swiped at him, which he would dodge and back up again.  When he did, he activated Disguise so that he would have a greater chance at avoiding being frozen again.  It seemed this was affected by stats and such.  He did NOT want to be brought down again by stupid ice.  He hated being stunned and forced to do nothing.  With a very heated passion.

Neo charged at Leviathan with the rest of the group. Though she was burned by the hot water coming at them, she charged through it to do as much damage as she possibly could. It wasn't going to be enough to kill by any means, but this war of attrition needed to start moving in their favor. If it didn't, their were sure to lose their grip. Mars had to drop out just recently, and Neo wasn't sure how much longer she would be able to draw out staying here. And there was certainly others who were struggling to keep themselves afloat in this fight. Retreating back towards a defensive formation, she waited in patience for what came at her next. They had smaller fish to fry right now. Take care of themselves and they would take care of the boss. Hopefully was all she could say to that though.

Players have 72 hours to post

[Deadline is Saturday, August 24th, at 2:00 PM PDT]

The Sahagin all screeched as they charged at the players. For the most part, they all connected. One was deflected by a parasol of all things, but the rest started to whittle at their opponents life force. As soon as they had finished their charge, the boss sent another wave of frost over the battle field. There was little space in between these attacks for the players to get their own counterattack in, but they would have to find one if they wanted to make it further in this battle.

The clouds that were covering started to drizzle down more rain. It wasn't the soggy downpour that it was before, but enough to start reducing visibility. The players wouldn't be able to see much outside of the small arena they were trapped in. It was enough to hide the newest crystal that had entered the field, attempting once more to gather water to give to the leviathan.

Last Round's Results:

Spoiler

[
                    ]
[                    ]

Ability 3: Scald (2/3 CD)

<<Segment>> [Diamond Dust]

<<Red Sahagin 2>>

See notes below

Start spawning upon segment destruction when Leviathan reaches 30% HP.
Stats: 200 DMG | 75 MIT | 4 ACC | 2 EVA | 10 PD
Ability 1 - Power Attack: Red Sahagin deal 350 damage on a critical hit
Ability 2 - Enraged:
Red Sahagin ignore hate and attack in the following pattern:

  1. The player who attacked it last.
  2. The player who healed a target last.
  3. The player who reduced a target to 0 HP last
  4. ---

Two Red Sahagins cannot attack the same target.

Activating the mod in question a green aura surrounds myself and then three others as i decide to leave the Are guy out of it since in the long run it shouldn't matter because of his health just looking entirely just fun and perfect. However, much to my surprise i saw the red shahagin be able to just attack the other players besides myself as i realize a rather annoying fact if that is the case as i just let out a frustrated sigh. Oh come on they ignore tanking mechanics! I shout feeling rather annoyed by this fact as i glance towards the DPS squad and can only just hope against hope that they are able to do something against the entirety of the shahagins so we can strike at the leviathan once more while we still can. Wanting to have this fight end sooner rather then later by this point so it can be over with.

With the Leviathan damaged a bit more they had the problem once again, with destroying the water crystal before it could heal it.  And after that, defeating every Sahagin so that they could destroy the segment, so that they could damage the boss again...  The only problem was.  The water crystal had an evasion rate that nullified everyone's accuracy.  Or rather, reduced it to a point where it didn't matter.  If it's evasion was lower, this would be a lot simpler.  But it wasn't.  Itzal managed to avoid being frozen this time around, but it was a tradeoff it seems, as he completely missed the water crystal.  Keen activated, which would be better for the next round, but the fact remained that.  He was very obviously the weak link in this chain.  The only exception being Calrex who seemed to have his effects last twice as long.  Was it because of his unique skill?
