As the Frostbite wore off Calrex gave a small sigh, catching his breath as he quickly surveyed the battlefield. During his temporarily lapse of judgement it seemed the floor boss had spawned even more mobs to distract the players. In addition to this, yet another water crystal had appeared on the beach as well, meaning that they had an even more problematic target to strike at. Looking down at his right arm, still shaking from being recently defrosted for the nth time this fight, but after a moment he grit his teeth, clenching his fist as some of the remaining ice in his palm shattered.

More freezing droplets descended over the battle field, but this time around the bluenette managed to easily shrug them off, "No time to be getting frozen again. Achilles debuff or not, this battle isn't over. I can internally yell at Cardinal all I want, like the system is even listening up in whatever ivory tower Aincrad has it."

Extending his arm the Grand Gauntlets III vanished from his forearms, reforming back into the Grand Legionbane as he lowered his stance, "I'll do something about the sahagin! Keep focusing on the crystal and get the head vulnerable again!"

Rushing forward he felt his body being carried by his Sword Art, eyes locked onto his targets. His body rotations brought the massive axe around again and again, directed at each one. However, at the end of his attack it appeared he was only able to connect with one target out of the four he had intended, and it was one the lowest in priority. He gave a heavy sigh, grip tightening around he weapon as he lowered his stance, "Tch guess that one was the warm up then...gotta do a lot of that to work the cold off."

Neo could feel the chill in the air, but the scalding water from earlier was protecting her from its effects. using this opportunity, she quickly went after the crystal surrounded by water. They couldn't afford to let it heal the boss. If it did, there was no telling if they would be able to win this fight, They were barely doing enough damage to the boss as it was. If it was able to go back up consistently, they wouldn't win this fight. Others were pre-occupied with things such as the Sahagin, so she focused on what she believed she could take out. Lunging towards it, she quickly realized her blade was working against her. The thing that had been craving death for so long was now no longer working its magic. She was stuck on her own against this object it seemed. Everyone else was not paying attention to it or unable to hit it.

"We are so close..." Jomei said under his breath, watching the Leviathan's health trickle down a little bit more. Since they missed their shot to take out the boss, it lifted its large head once more, staying out of reach from being targeted. The portion of the Leviathan's body that would allow them to lower the head again was also covered in a reinforced armor, meaning they would need to, once again, handle the Sahagin before moving forward. If that wasn't enough, the crystal with healing properties formed once again as well. "Someone take that thing out!" Jomei shouted, before dodging another attack from the Leviathan. "This guy is really out to get me..." Dodging one attack left the man open for a strike from one of the fish men, the weapon it wielded cutting deep into his body and knocking him off balance. The ginger retaliated however, spinning on his heels and charging towards the Sahagin, driving his shoulder into its sternum to knock it backwards. Following suit, the man's rapier shone a bright gold, his normally olive eyes shining a similar color. Jomei's blade cut even deeper into the Sahagin, each cut tearing off bits of the mob before one last stab to the chest knocked the monster back into the scaled hide that surrounded the battlefield.

Players have 72 hours to post

[Deadline is Thursday, August 29th at 2:00 PM]

Just like the ebb and flow of the tide, so too was the leviathan's attacks. Though the Sahagin continued their merciless assault, the leviathan herself took this time to observe the battlefield and asses its options. The players were slow moving, and that would be taken into account. That meant that anything that could stay around for some time would be able to do some significant damage. Speaking of which, the leviathan noted the healing crystal coming towards them to remove several scratches from their body. It was a pleasant feeling, knowing that they were bringing the players even further from their goal. One of the more frail-looking players was hit with a Sahagin, it seemed that their lines were beginning to crumble. If only it could get one more player to leave the battlefield, that should be enough to cause a cascade failure to get the rest to be forced to retreat.

Spoiler

Room Effect: Torrential Rain
A terrible storm rages on the seas, growing worse by the minute. At the start of each of Leviathan's turns, players are progressively hindered. Those with the <<Survival>> skill active take reduced penalties (noted in brackets). ACC and EVA reductions only last for the rotation they were applied:

Rotation 1: 50 mitigatable DMG [25 mitigatable DMG]
Rotation 2: 100 mitigatable DMG [50 mitigatable DMG]
Rotation 3: 150 mitigatable DMG and reduces EVA by 1 for a turn [75 mitigatable DMG]
Rotation 4: 200 mitigatable DMG and reduces ACC and EVA by 1 for a turn [125 mitigatable DMG and reduces EVA by 1 for a turn]
Rotation 5+: 250 mitigatable DMG and reduces ACC and EVA by 2 for a turn [175 mitigatable DMG and reduces ACC and EVA by 1 for a turn]

<<Leviathan>>  (Targetable for 0 turn(s))
[
                    ]
[                    ]
[                    ]
0 MIT | 0 ACC | -2 EVA | 14 PD
Takes double damage from all sources excluding Burn damage.
Leviathan is out of reach and unable to be targeted except for howl, focused howl, and other abilities that only generate hate until one of her Segments are downed.

Passive:  Queen's Ire
Applies to a player when they deal damage to Leviathan. Reduces all sources of health and energy restoration by half (rounded down, to a minimum of 0). Destroying a Segment immediately removes Queen's Ire from its assigned party.

Ability 1: Hydro Jet
[Uses every turn]
An attack that pierces through the toughest of hides, the sturdiest of ships, and densest of armor. Leviathan rears back and launches a jet of concentrated water at the player with the highest hate. Deals 500 DMG and reduces the hate of that player against Leviathan by 3. On a non-critical hit, a player may choose to expend 5 energy at the start of their turn to ignore this hate reduction.

Ability 2: Frostbite (1/2 CD)
[2 Turn CD]
Leviathan breathes deeply, unleashing a wave of extreme frost over the area that coats players and solidifies into ice (Note that this does not take an attack roll to hit; this attack will ignore, but not interrupt, stealth; this attack does not proc thorns). At the start of the players' next turn, they must roll with the purpose "Frostbite" (This is not a post action and should be rolled after scald if applicable). On a LD 1-14, they suffer from the Freeze condition until the start of their next turn (Removes their action on the current turn and removes all EVA properties. If they are hit by a successful attack before the effect ends they take an additional 40 unmitigatable Frost DMG.). A frozen player's base DMG is reduced by 3 for one turn after the freeze effect ends (this is negated if the effect was purified). The following allow bonuses to this LD roll or ignore the effect:

  • +3 for having the <<Survival>> skill active.
  • +2 for having the Flame Aura, Flame Thorns, or Burn enhancements equipped. (Can only apply once per roll, burn effects granted from consumables do not apply)
  • +1 for every 2 EVA the player has.
  • Having the Antifreeze makes the player automatically succeed the check.
  • Suffering from the Burn effect from Scald makes the player automatically succeed the check.

Additional notes: This will proc anti-oxidants and antidotes before the roll. If a player neglects to roll for this effect, the boss will make the roll at a -5 penalty (and will apply retroactively). And though it is stated earlier, once again, this does not cost a post action. I will know you aren't reading these abilities if you ask me if it takes a post action. You cannot quick change to gain immunity either, as it takes place at the start of your turn.

Ability 3: Scald (1/3 CD)
[3 Turn CD] (starts on cooldown)
A sphere of heated volcanic ocean water is lobbed and splashes against all players in the party. Deals 100 unmitigatable DMG to the player with the highest hate, 50 unmitigatable DMG to the player with the second highest hate, and 25 unmitigatable DMG to all others (Note that this does not take an attack roll to hit; this attack will ignore, but not interrupt, stealth; this attack does not proc thorns). At the start of the players' next turn, they must roll with the purpose "Scald" (This is not a post action, and should be rolled before frostbite if applicable). On a LD 15+, their base DMG is reduced by 1 for one round. On a LD 1-14, they suffer from Burn, taking 40 unmitigatable Fire DMG at the beginning of their turn for two turns (This is affected by the snowfrost effect). The following allow bonuses to this LD roll or ignore the effect:

  • +3 for having the <<Survival>> skill active.
  • +2 for having the Frost Aura, Frost Thorns, or Freeze enhancements equipped. (Can only apply once per roll, freeze effects granted from consumables do not apply)
  • +1 for every 2 EVA the player has.
  • Having the Fireproof enhancement makes the player automatically succeed the check.
  • Suffering from the Freeze effect from Frostbite makes the player automatically succeed the check.

Ability 4: Tsunami
[Acitvates once when Leviathan reaches 20% or lower Health]
Leviathan, all Segments, Water Crystals, and any remaining Sahagin retreat. Torrential Rain is disabled, and remains inactive for the remainder of the fight. Leviathan takes no action for two turns. On the third rotation, the Tsunami strikes, dealing each player 50% of their current HP in unmitigatable damage (Note that this does not take an attack roll to hit; this attack will ignore, but not interrupt stealth; this attack does not proc thorns).

<<Segment>> [Diamond Dust]
[                    ]
50 MIT | 2 EVA

AoE attacks cannot include more than one segment. Though they die and respawn, Segments cannot be affected by Charge more than once, and effects like debuffs will continue to affect a downed/respawned Segment.
One segment is assigned to each party. When a Segment is destroyed, Leviathan lurches forward and becomes targetable for 1 turn for all parties (stacks with other segments being destroyed). The destroyed Segment immediately respawns with a set of Sahagin adds. These Sahagin only target players in the party that they are assigned to and can only be targeted by players that they are assigned to. A respawned Segment has the <<Diamond Dust>> buff until all paired adds are killed.
Ability 1: Diamond Dust - Leviathan’s scales shimmer like diamonds. A Segment with the <<Diamond Dust>> buff is immune to damage.

<<Sahagin 1>>

See notes below

<<Red Sahagin 2>>
[                    ]
See notes below

Start spawning upon segment destruction when Leviathan reaches 30% HP.
Stats: 200 DMG | 75 MIT | 4 ACC | 2 EVA | 10 PD
Ability 1 - Power Attack: Red Sahagin deal 350 damage on a critical hit
Ability 2 - Enraged:
Red Sahagin ignore hate and attack in the following pattern:

  1. The player who attacked it last.
  2. The player who healed a target last.
  3. The player who reduced a target to 0 HP last
  4. The player with the highest hate among all targets.

Two Red Sahagins cannot attack the same target.

<<Water Crystal>>
[                    ]
Spawn when Leviathan reaches 50% HP. Respawn every 3 Turns after they are killed at the end of leviathan's turn.
0 MIT | 4 EVA
One crystal is assigned to each party. Only the assigned party may target the water crystal. Hate is not gained against water crystals. At the start of Leviathan's turn, each living Water Crystal heals Leviathan for 3% of its max HP. When a Water Crystal is destroyed, its corresponding party gains the <<Hydrated>> buff.
Ability 1: Hydrated: Instantly restores 25% of total energy (ignores queen's ire). Passive energy restoration is tripled and the effect of the Recovery enhancement is doubled for 1 turn.

The Leviathan's eyes were locked onto Jomei no matter where he moved. It seemed Jomei had been causing enough trouble to the Leviathan to take its attention away from the other two tanks in the party. Luckily, the player had pretty high evasion stats to begin with, let alone the extra boost from the consumables Zandra passed off at the start of the fight. And of course, dodging an attack meant that his own accuracy with striking would increase, due to a pretty helpful modification to his armor.

Hitting the sand with a roll, Jomei barely dodged out of the way of the Leviathan's blast of water yet again. Using the momentum of the roll to his advantage, Jomei shot up to his feet and activated Charge in the same instant yet again. With high speeds, the ginger shot towards the second of the red skinned Sahagin, driving his knee into the gut of the unsuspecting fish-monster. Just as before, the ginger's blade followed suit and cut through the minion's armor like butter, hopefully taking out this one in a single hit as he did its predecessor. Out of the corner of his eye, Jomei noticed the Water Crystal was still floating, with barely any health left to it. "Calrex! Target the remaining three Sahagin and the Water Crystal with an area attack! Are, Neo, take out any stragglers if he misses. Hopefully we can focus on the segment again and take this thing out once and for all. Hestia, if you can, bump up Neo's health again."

Well then guess i'll need to make sure to focus neo for a bit cause these shahagin hurt a bit more then expected. I say softly as my hands glow with a green light as i take the hits from the shahagin shrugging them off via my mitigation and having battle healign to carry me forward as a green aura surrounds neo as she is quickly healed. With that you're healed up neo. And if possible Are, and Neo can you more so focus on the crystal if calrex misses? I would rather not have the boss gain more health. Preventing the boss from healing is our main priority i think we can all agree since taking some damage isn't as bad considering the crystals also give a energy boost to everyone here. I say towards them in a calm and inquisitive tone not wanting to override jomei's orders, but wantign to make sure that the priority was still known that these crystals are terrifying if left unchecked by this boss fight.

"Tch...I'll try..."

Hearing Jomei and Hestia designate targets for him to focus on, Calrex gave a small sigh. His arms were still shivering from the continuous Frostbite effects, so he felt that while his strength had returned, he might not be as consistent in terms of accuracy. He turned to face the mobs that were still on the field, readying the Grand Legionbane as he began to glow with his Sword Art energy. Rushing forward his eyes locked onto his opponents, the massive battle axe coming around.

The first two strikes flew, just barely missing each of their marks: The water crystal and remaining red sahagin respectively. However, the remaining final attack made up for these by getting two of the lesser sahagin at the same time, immediately smashing both into the ground as the bluenette gave a small sigh of relief, "Two at least, instead of just one. Still they're the least of our worries. Plus with every miss that wastes the focused DPS fighters on cleaning up. Maybe I need to look more into other armaments that might compliment these evasive monster situations again. My old Aegis Armament was designed for this, but it's way too outdated now to be useful. Might be time to upgrade it and the Ichor Armament."

Itzal watched as the water crystal healed the floor boss a little bit of its health.  Damnit he thought.  And for some reason no one was targeting it either.  The only one who tried to actually hit it was Calrex.  Why wasn't anyone else attacking the water crystal?!  Itzal rushed over and tried to release his sword art on it after Calrex had missed it.  Unfortunately the crystal managed to avoid his blade as well.  It was at this point where he wondered if it was God's intention to have them all killed here...  Had it been a full day by now?  How long had they actually been here?  Itzal was sick and tired of this and he really hoped that they managed to finish off this stupid boss very, very soon now.  However by the way things were going, he doubted that was gonna happen.

Neo noticed that there weren't many others who were going for the crystal once again. And the couple that went for it missed entirely. It was understandable to try an take out the Sahagin, but they needed that thing dead. It was near enough to death that it was reasonable for her to go for a weaker sword art. And if she didn't put as much force behind it, she would be able to concentrate more on getting the hit. Focusing herself, she felt the darkness of her blade rush through her. That adrenaline rush that had started to come with every bit of pain she caused. The first thrust forced the crystal to dodge to the right. The second made it dodge down. The third strike forced it back center, and then she finished with a surprising downwards slash to attempt and shatter the crystal. THe blow connected, and she could feel the crystal cracking under the darkness of her blade.

OOC announcements:

Spoiler

The next post may have a 48 hour time limit, so please keep an eye out for that

Players have 72 hours to post

[Deadline is Monday, September 2nd at 2:00 PM]

The water crystal was shattered, but that was of little importance. It was simply another tool to make this battle last a bit longer. All the leviathan needed was that one lucky set of blows and the players would be struggling to get back up on their feet once more. Already they were slowing down, the number of enemies facing them preventing them from moving forward. It was quite possible they had reached an equilibrium. They were barely able to do more damage than the amount of healing that the crystals of the sea could do. It was enough that they were going to have to struggle to even finish this fight off. Perhaps another person would have tipped the scales, but for now the monster could wait and barrage players with fire and ice until it got that stroke of luck that would close out the battle. That was all it needed.

Last Round's Results:

Jomei kills Red Sahagin 2

[
                    ]
[                    ]

Ability 2: Frostbite (2/2 CD)

Ability 3: Scald (3/3 CD)

Itzal breathed a sigh of relief as Neo managed to land a finishing strike on the water crystal just before it had time to heal the boss.  When the boss sent it's scald and frostbite attacks careening towards them Itzal adjusted himself so that it would have minimal impact on him.  After the hit he wasn't affected by neither scald nor frostbite...  Perfect!  It was about freaking time he got some luck today.  He immediately took advantage of this burst of luck and charged at the remaining sahagin...  While activating charge as well.  He unleashed his sword art Meteor Strike and landed a hyper critical hit on the poor fool.  Being paralyzed, bleeding out and poisoned Itzal retreated back to the others.  "If no one's sword art finishes that mob off, the bleed and toxin will."  Now the only question was...  Would this be one burst of luck before back to horrid luck?  Or would his luck be good or decent from this moment forward?

Another attack from the Leviathan, and another miss. Jomei was lucky that the rain had stopped falling, or he would be a dead man. However, with his maximum evasion at the ready, he felt as though he could dodge the boss’ attacks for quite awhile. Though, despite the fact that he could, he would rather not take the chances and end this fight swiftly. The Leviathan swapped out its Hydro attack for another burst of scalding hot water. This, he was not able to dodge. His skin, despite the feeling of pain lacking, warmed and singed as the burning effects held on him. “Dammit.. better this than being frozen” he thought to himself, before searching for his next target. With Are dealing with the last of the Sahagin, Jomei went in for the armored segment, hoping his timing was right so he could actually deal some damage.

Scald Roll:

LD: 5 (+3 Survival / +1 Evasion) = 9 // Burn

Frostbite Roll Auto-Succeeds

Focused Howl (6 Energy Used / 3 Recovered / 168 Remaining)

Cooldown:
Quick Change: 2/3
Focused Howl: 0/2

With the final sahagin taken down Calrex gave a small sigh of relief. The only thing that remained at this point was to take down the segment and make Leviathan targetable again. However he was more focused on the fact that Jomei was being put on the defensive from the Leviathan's jet attacks, "Nice work dodging the water jet Jomei, I'll take it from here!"

The Grand Legionbane swirled with his light blue energy, building up to a dense aura around the head of the weapon before the bluenette brought it around, slamming it into the sand beneath him. The booming roar from the impact was directly targeted at Leviathan, the Focused Howl technique taking its effect. As he hefted the massive axe back onto his shoulder the Ultramarine Knight noticed the boss' face orient itself towards him, meaning that he had taken the highest Hate, "Good I was  not that far behind then. That should allow the others to focus on it for a bit. Hopefully once it's vulnerable we can all capitalize without another crystal popping up beforehand."

I quickly activate first aid as a green aura surround neo as her health once more increases as i can only do my best to try and keep things as balanced out among all the party members as i am physically able to do so. As i check everybody else and nods seeing people are doing perfectly fine to be fair since they're holding out rather well. I feel the crashing boiling water slam into the raid as i just grit my teeth as i feel my gear become super heated as the pain cried of my familiar echoes out. As i wince at the sound as i just bite my lower lip and tough it through fihgting back the tears that wanted to come not wanting to lose kuro. not able to afford the loss of my familiar like that as i stand my ground as much as i could. Itzal's words echoing in my mind ever so briefly about the tale of his familiar having died before. Come on just a little bit more. I say softly and hopefully.

As Neo was about to move forward to finish off the last of the enemies that they were facing, she felt a cold wash over her. It was not unfamiliar at this point, but it was the first time in a little while that it had kept her in place. Finding herself incapable of moving, she flicked her eyes around and noticed Hestia coming towards her. They didn't free her, not that she thought it was worth the effort of trying to anyways. But they did let a green aura wash around her and heal up some of her wounds. SHe would've nodded in thanks if she was capable of doing so.

Players have 72 hours to post

[Deadline is Friday, September 6th at 7:00 PM]

OOC Announcements:

Spoiler

Itzal is being temporarily excused from posting and the strike system due to hurricane Dorian. They have been given two weeks or until their next post before being held once again to the strike system. If anyone else has strenuous circumstances, please talk with me ahead of time and I hope to be able to sort something out with you.

The sahagin were taken out once more, and the leviathan was left to its own devices. It sprayed water about the field experimentally, more in preparation for another water crystal than to deal damage to the players. It was clear at this point that it needed to have a sudden onslaught against one of their weaker members if it had a hope at taking them out. Perhaps once the next wave of supporters flocked to her aid would she be able to do that properly. Not that coordinating them would be easy. They very much had minds of their own.

As for the sea, the tide began to come in once more. This battle had been going on long enough that the sea seemed to be growing anxious, the tides changing faster and faster as if it were hyperventilating. Whatever controlled it was certainly watching this fight. And it seemed to fear for the worst.

[
                    ]
[                    ]

Ability 3: Scald (2/3 CD)

<<Segment>>

((OOC Note: Forgot to add the 1 hate for hitting the segment last round. Will add that plus any hate I generate this round to my current post))

Jomei felt his skin tingle as the burn effects from Scald took its last bit of damage from him. Patting down his chest and arm, Jomei let out a tiny sigh of relief before hearing Calrex call out to him, using his howl skill to take some of the heat off of the ginger for a little bit. "Thanks Cal, I appreciate that. Was getting a bit too close for my liking there." he said with a chuckle. Turning his eyes back to the slightly weakened segment of the Leviathan, Jomei twirled his rapier in his hand before entering a fighting stance, "Now I can just focus on taking you down." With no attacks or minions coming from the boss, it was an open shot for Jomei to rush right at the scaled hide of the serpent creature. Pushing off of the sand, Jomei angled his trajectory to meet the portion of its body as it slowly coiled around the battle field. With one last push, Jomei lunged his arm forward, meeting the segment and activating his strongest sword art. The ginger's body followed through the motions of Over Radiation, cutting multiple times into the Leviathan's scaled hide, dealing more and more damage.

Seeing the current state of affais all things considered they're looking good as i just quickly let my hand get covered in a green light as i point them towards neo as a green light envelops her and sends her health back near perfect or at least a fifth of the way near it which is close enough in my books as i just smile happily and then wait to see how well our attack against the segment will go since we're nearing the end of this fight at the very least or one can only hope since otherwise this is going to be hell no matter what it turns out. Taking a quick calming breathe i just shrug and spends a small amount of time petting my familiar kuro with a smile upon my face. Thanks for protecting me during this kuro continue doing this we're almost near the end of it all. I whisper in a soft tone of voice towards the lion in a gentle and affectionate tone of voice wanting to encourage the creature even if it is only data. It's real enough for me.

This fight was dragging on for far, far, far too long.  The main reason of course, was that they lost two entire parties and were dragging on against a boss that was far more dangerous than they were originally lead to believe.  Now however, it was basically a stalemate.  Between the boss's layers of defense, it's healing crystal, and the luck they'd been having as of late, they were struggling to even damage it, let alone finish it.  On the other hand, the boss was facing the highest leveled players available to the frontlines at this point.  Their absurd health, energy and the fact that the had a healer was making it rather difficult for the boss to actually do anything to them in any way shape or form...  Though Itzal was a little concerned about Neo, it looked like Hestia had that covered.  At any rate, he slashed at the segment, dealing another strike.  At least this one's evasion was weak...

Segment 1: 7 (Accuracy +3 / -2 Evasion) = 8 // 16 * 13 - 50 = 158 Damage

Sword Art <<Screw Dimension>> (12 Energy Used / 1 Recovered / 157 Remaining)

+93 Battle Healing - 80 Fire Damage (Doubled due to Achilles) = +13 Battle Healing

Cooldown:
Quick Change: 3/3
Focused Howl: 1/2

With only one target remaining in front of them, there wasn't really much else to do but hopefully burn down the segment's health as quick as possible to open up the main body for damage once again, "Still, we haven't had much luck with locking down and taking out the water crystals fast enough to prevent the boss from healing. That thing's speed if really in another level, even when I'm using my maximum possible Accuracy with Martial Arts..."

Rushing forward Calrex leapt skyward as the Grand Legionbane glowed with Sword Art energy, preparing to use his most powerful single-target attack with the weapon. Coming down on the segment he chopped through with a single slice, light blue energy leaving a scar in the air that remained for a brief second before the space around it visibly seemed to get sucked in for a moment, the wind scar doubling the damage from the single cut.

Hefting his weapon back onto his shoulder the bluenette took note that his Quick Change had just completed cooling down, meaning that should they be able to attack the main part he would be able to quickly change to his gauntlets and maximize the amount of damage he could contribute.
