[BR - F24] Paving the way to Floor 25 (Floor 24 Boss Battle - Leviathan)

Recommended Posts

Having to watch in frustration as the boss regained more health.  With Domarus gone, much of their damage output was taken away.  They had only one AoE damage dealer, one powerful spear user, and himself.  A player who couldn't land a critical hit on the boss even if he wanted to.  And from what he was seeing now, their bad luck was returning as enemies dodged at the last second, or objects became liquid, or too solid to damage.  He saw Zandra land a powerful hit against the remaining Sahagin, but against the crystal and segment she failed to deal damage.  He needed to go next.  He spoke softly for Zandra alone to hear.  "Don't give up hope.  There's still a chance we can get through this Zandra...  If we give up hope, others will follow.  We have to be a beacon of hope for them."  He charged forward and landed a very potent strike on the water crystal.  Just before it shattered he saw...  Three...  Status...  Effects...  Being applied.......  On the crystal?!  "Seriously?!  NOW is when my effects are applied?  Oh screw you Kayaba."

Another wave of damage to discourage the group and they still didn't pop their crystal! At least, not until it was Sey's turn to dance, meaning that they were free! Zandra managed to pull the clutch and handle that last stupid add that made life annoying for him. It could have been annoying if it kept rampaging around and about. With that in mind, the Frostbite check seemed to come for him yet again. He winced as he braced for the locking of his stats and skills again. No such even happened. In fact, he was still active! And the segment was exposed, meaning he had a chance to dish some damage onto it! "Okay, let's get this stupid thing popped and off the radar!" And it was a simple explosive fist away from the first bit of damage. Sey didn't have a need to keep play defensive since he trusted himself to avoid conflict for another round or two with the exception of Hydro Jet. By then, he would have expected a heal to come through.

The ginger was not as lucky the second time around when the Leviathan decided to unleash its attack on the ginger yet again. The heavy stream of water pounded into Jomei's chest, tossing him across the battlefield and into the dirt. Jomei lay there for a moment, watching his health bar travel from the green, to the yellow, and almost into the red. He was barely over a third of his health... and he knew that he definitely would not be able to take another attack like that or else he would not be lasting much longer in this world. "That... definitely didn't feel good" the man groaned as he rolled over onto his stomach and pushed himself up to a kneeling position.

Jomei scanned the area, seeing that many of the other players were looking worse than Jomei was. The man took in a slow, shaky breath as he pushed his hair out from his face. They were close to winning... but to him, it seemed like they were losing. The breath slowly escaped from his lips in a light fod, his soaked bangs haphazardly falling back in front of his face. There was no escape for him from this fight, it was either live and win or die. Still on his knees, Jomei just stared, feeling defeated, scared that he would never see Telrenya again.

I wince a bit as i see Jomei take a rather brutal hit from the leviathen as i just shake my head knowing that i can't worry about that for now and just focus upon my objective that i can get accomplished. Making my way towards the black haired swordsman once more i activate first aid to recover his hp up since he was the lowest from what i could tell as i then just look towards the snake as the icy breathe covers the battlefield once more and manages to ice over calrex once more as i can only give the azure knight a look of sympathy due to the fact that this keeps happening to him. 'This boss really wanted to take him down a notch seemingly, and from the fact Hikoru is gone as well maybe it just wanted to make all unique users just gone from the fight entirely.' i think to myself trying to think of a way to provide something useful since all i can do is stand and wait.

Seeing the segment up and running he quickly rushes towards the thing and slashes into the thing as he watches the hp get lowered from it as he grins to himself since he did manage to land the attack, but the attack not being effective in the first place when compared to some of the other attacks going off in the area. 'one thing at a time Mars, one thing at a time.' he thinks calmly to himself as he backs away from the segment and keeping his gaze upon the leviathan having dodged out of its cold icy wave's worst effects for the most part when going for the segment. Which does leave some good time to just strike out at the boss when its head gets lowered once more. Finding himself in a decent place to try and do that next time that it occurs.

The blonde let out a small sigh as she would straighten herself. Having missed the crystal two times in a row had consumed too much of her resources so she decided to let the others handle it. After its dissipated into the usual death animation the blonde changed her focus on the big segment that just became targetable thanks to the fact that the last fish of their group died as well. The blonde seemed to have forgotten about the boss' attack pattern as she suddenly felt a chill down her spine. Luckily it didn't escalate to anything else but the blonde still kept her guard up, not that there was much that she could do against it. The apparent randomness of that freeze attack was one of the things she really hates about this game. Nonetheless, she went full out and managed to remove a sizable chunk of the segment's HP with her sword art.

Neo was charging through the cold mists, trying to go for the segment that was in her view still just barely. But as she was doing so, she thought she saw the head of the leviathan moving towards her. Doing her best to correct it, she quickly turned her charge into a vault, leaping off of the side of the leviathan's tail and turning back around towards her party. She crushed another healing crystal in her hand once she felt she was safe and sent a message towards @Hestia. She wasn't going to be able to hang in there too much longer if she couldn't get a heal from her. The message was written hastily, and as such was barely legible, but the meaning was clear, she needed healing

Players have 72 hours to post

[Deadline is Sunday, June 30th at 9:30 PM PDT (UTC - 7)]

Nothing of the leviathan's interest had happened recently, and this irked it. Though the players were slowly losing their footing in this fight, it knew that it had to do something to move things in one direction or another. Switching up targets, it managed to his someone to another lower threshold of health. It likely wouldn't be much considering that they had healers of some sort, but at least it felt like progress. Meanwhile, the rain was pouring down harder than ever and was making sure to put a drain on the players life totals. There was going to have to be a tipping point soon. Either the leviathan would pull its final gambit, or the players would. The leviathan refused for it to be any other way. Though boring, they had shown they could meddle with some measure of success. Now was the time to bury them in the wet sand of fear.

Boss Stats:

Spoiler

Room Effect: Torrential Rain
A terrible storm rages on the seas, growing worse by the minute. At the start of each of Leviathan's turns, players are progressively hindered. Those with the <<Survival>> skill active take reduced penalties (noted in brackets). ACC and EVA reductions only last for the rotation they were applied:

Rotation 1: 50 mitigatable DMG [25 mitigatable DMG]
Rotation 2: 100 mitigatable DMG [50 mitigatable DMG]
Rotation 3: 150 mitigatable DMG and reduces EVA by 1 for a turn [75 mitigatable DMG]
Rotation 4: 200 mitigatable DMG and reduces ACC and EVA by 1 for a turn [125 mitigatable DMG and reduces EVA by 1 for a turn]
Rotation 5+: 250 mitigatable DMG and reduces ACC and EVA by 2 for a turn [175 mitigatable DMG and reduces ACC and EVA by 1 for a turn]

<<Leviathan>>

                    ]
[                    ]
[                    ]
0 MIT | 0 ACC | -2 EVA | 14 PD
Takes double damage from all sources excluding Burn damage.
Leviathan is out of reach and unable to be targeted except for howl, focused howl, and other abilities that only generate hate until one of her Segments are downed.

Passive:  Queen's Ire
Applies to a player when they deal damage to Leviathan. Reduces all sources of health and energy restoration by half (rounded down, to a minimum of 0). Destroying a Segment immediately removes Queen's Ire from its assigned party.

Ability 1: Hydro Jet
[Uses every turn]
An attack that pierces through the toughest of hides, the sturdiest of ships, and densest of armor. Leviathan rears back and launches a jet of concentrated water at the player with the highest hate. Deals 500 DMG and reduces the hate of that player against Leviathan by 3. On a non-critical hit, a player may choose to expend 5 energy at the start of their turn to ignore this hate reduction.

Ability 2: Frostbite (1/2 CD)
[2 Turn CD]
Leviathan breathes deeply, unleashing a wave of extreme frost over the area that coats players and solidifies into ice (Note that this does not take an attack roll to hit; this attack will ignore, but not interrupt, stealth; this attack does not proc thorns). At the start of the players' next turn, they must roll with the purpose "Frostbite" (This is not a post action and should be rolled after scald if applicable). On a LD 1-14, they suffer from the Freeze condition until the start of their next turn (Removes their action on the current turn and removes all EVA properties. If they are hit by a successful attack before the effect ends they take an additional 40 unmitigatable Frost DMG.). A frozen player's base DMG is reduced by 3 for one turn after the freeze effect ends (this is negated if the effect was purified). The following allow bonuses to this LD roll or ignore the effect:

  • +3 for having the <<Survival>> skill active.
  • +2 for having the Flame Aura, Flame Thorns, or Burn enhancements equipped. (Can only apply once per roll, burn effects granted from consumables do not apply)
  • +1 for every 2 EVA the player has.
  • Having the Antifreeze makes the player automatically succeed the check.
  • Suffering from the Burn effect from Scald makes the player automatically succeed the check.

Additional notes: This will proc anti-oxidants and antidotes before the roll. If a player neglects to roll for this effect, the boss will make the roll at a -5 penalty (and will apply retroactively). And though it is stated earlier, once again, this does not cost a post action. I will know you aren't reading these abilities if you ask me if it takes a post action. You cannot quick change to gain immunity either, as it takes place at the start of your turn.

Ability 3: Scald (1/3 CD)
[3 Turn CD] (starts on cooldown)
A sphere of heated volcanic ocean water is lobbed and splashes against all players in the party. Deals 100 unmitigatable DMG to the player with the highest hate, 50 unmitigatable DMG to the player with the second highest hate, and 25 unmitigatable DMG to all others (Note that this does not take an attack roll to hit; this attack will ignore, but not interrupt, stealth; this attack does not proc thorns). At the start of the players' next turn, they must roll with the purpose "Scald" (This is not a post action, and should be rolled before frostbite if applicable). On a LD 15+, their base DMG is reduced by 1 for one round. On a LD 1-14, they suffer from Burn, taking 40 unmitigatable Fire DMG at the beginning of their turn for two turns (This is affected by the snowfrost effect). The following allow bonuses to this LD roll or ignore the effect:

  • +3 for having the <<Survival>> skill active.
  • +2 for having the Frost Aura, Frost Thorns, or Freeze enhancements equipped. (Can only apply once per roll, freeze effects granted from consumables do not apply)
  • +1 for every 2 EVA the player has.
  • Having the Fireproof enhancement makes the player automatically succeed the check.
  • Suffering from the Freeze effect from Frostbite makes the player automatically succeed the check.

Spoiler

<<Segment 1>>
[                    ]
50 MIT | 2 EVA

AoE attacks cannot include more than one segment. Though they die and respawn, Segments cannot be affected by Charge more than once, and effects like debuffs will continue to affect a downed/respawned Segment.
One segment is assigned to each party. When a Segment is destroyed, Leviathan lurches forward and becomes targetable for 1 turn for all parties (stacks with other segments being destroyed). The destroyed Segment immediately respawns with a set of Sahagin adds. These Sahagin only target players in the party that they are assigned to and can only be targeted by players that they are assigned to. A respawned Segment has the <<Diamond Dust>> buff until all paired adds are killed.
Ability 1: Diamond Dust - Leviathan’s scales shimmer like diamonds. A Segment with the <<Diamond Dust>> buff is immune to damage.

At the start of Leviathan's turn, each living Water Crystal heals Leviathan for 3% of its max HP. When a Water Crystal is destroyed, its corresponding party gains the <<Hydrated>> buff.
Ability 1: Hydrated: Instantly restores 25% of total energy (ignores queen's ire). Passive energy restoration is tripled and the effect of the Recovery enhancement is doubled for 1 turn.

Once more with his katana in hand he looks towards the segment and just mtuters softly to himself. This will either kill me or just allow me to tough it out in this fight a bit longer. With that he rushes towards the segment his blade in hand as he slams the katana against the scaled body of the sea-serpent as he watches the health take a sizable chunk off it, but seemingly nto enough as he quickly backs away from the segment in question before glancing towards the two rapier users of the party to possibly step up and be able to finish it off for a strike against the actual bosswhile they could have some time to strike. 'It seems like a rather all or nothing moment since the other party isn't looking all that great seemingly.' he thinks to himself calmly while looking towards the serpent that is gazing down upon them.

Watching the health values get low enough i quickly pull out the only thing i can do in this moment and activate field medic to cover the entire team excluding myself in its healing effect as the greenlight bathes my team in its healing effect as i nod my head at that. Sorry about that Jomei but it was now or somebody was going to die. I call over towards the ginger man as i then look towards my teleport crystal and quickly gives it towards said team leader with a smile upon my face. Take my crystal Jomei that way if things go south you can get out of here in time, and don't worry about myself i have multiple teleport crystals ready to go. I say with a smile on my face towards somebody i would call family. While all the while lying through my teeth about having more crystals and myself knowing what this could mean if everybody leaves. 'Hopefully i would be given enough time to actually get my crystals from my inventory since i don't have them prepared.'

Itzal got hit by another attack and stumbled back.  This time he noticed the health bars of others as well.  His own health bar was now in the yellow zone which was concerning him.  Besides him, Sey was yellow, almost in the red.  Ariel was even closer to red.  And Zandra was lower than halfway.  Fear gripped him as he realized they were most likely not going to be able to finish the boss off this time around.  He tried to rush forward and strike the segment but the scales shifted and bounced his blade off easily.  He tried to hit it multiple times but his blows continued to be deflected.  After that he leaped back over to the group.  ".....We need to retreat.  Everyone grab your teleport crystals!  We don't have the firepower needed to finish this boss off in time.  Even if we could still win it's too risky."  He pulled his teleport crystal out and tossed it over to @Sey.  When he did, he looked directly at Zandra now.  "We need to put the lives of players before winning this fight," he said with a nod.  He walked closer so he could ensure her he wasn't being stupid.  "Players are being immobilized from the fight, and I don't think Kayaba will just let them die.  If I don't do anything, I'll be immobilized like them.  Don't worry, we'll see each other again after this.  And get some payback on this boss."

Retreat? Lovely idea! It would be with a crystal, only for Itzal to toss him one in turn. Sey was sure to catch that life-saving item into his palm with a smile, sounds like his call has been answered. "Looks like I owe you one." The snow-haired player declared, a smirk on his face as he looked back to Leviathan. "As for you, we're coming back with reinforcements. Hasta la vista, mate~." And with that, he would activate the Teleportation Crystal he obtained. If he flinched for another second, he would have been cooked by the sea. They knew the mechanics, they didn't need to waste time with such a low amount of damage for such high levels of danger. If someone actually perished for a last-hit item now, that would be shameful and unwise. If party one held on with that much DPS, good on them! As for his party, they had to flee.

Frozen 2/2

As the Frostbite still persisted Calrex's eyes scanned across the area, seeing that more players had pulled out teleport crystals to escape the fight. Struggling to move the bluenette could hear the small sounds of the ice beginning to lose its structure, pieces starting to break off of his form, "More people gone...this is not good. I guess this is really showing the separation between the player levels now. The only reason I can tell so far that our team can remain is due to the balance of healing, tanking, and damage that now is a part of out team. It would still help if Hikoru wasn't forcibly removed, but we have to make do. If we can't pull this off, this will be the first fight that the frontlines failed to complete on their first attempt. Can't tell if that's a serious wakeup call for most, or if people are still going to be stubborn about their mentality regarding these fights."

Looking at the others remaining on his team he could only hope that they could still remain active during the fight. With his current bad luck in regards to avoiding getting frozen he might have well have been treated as inactive. "It really must have been some kind of sick joke to introduce this change to Achilles before a boss fight though, especially with the fact that the Never Freeze enhancement is extremely rare to obtain. I will admit that this potentially is a lot worse of a result than expected, but it really feels like I'm caught in a loop now, and unless somehow I get affected by Scald instead it's only going to keep going."

Jomei looked over to Hestia who had jast used her field medic skill to bump their HP up a bit. He then noticed a quick trade option opened between him and her, offering up a Teleport Crystal so he would be able to make his escape if need be. Jomei looked the woman in the eyes for a moment as she reassured him that she had other ones at the ready. His finger hovered over the accept button before he smirked and tapped deny. “I know you too well Embers. I’d rather you keep it. I took lead of this raid party. I'm going to see it through...” his voice was a bit crackled as he spoke. “Plus.” He said, twirling his blade in his hand, “I’ve still got plenty of fight left in me.”

With that, Jomei shot forward, his blade connecting with the scaled hide of the Leviathan yet again, knocking down another chunk of its health. “You agreed to this fight to protect the Tier 2 players.” Jomei shouted back to Hestia again as he tore his blade from the boss’ body. “If you are really gonna be your hard headed self, give it to Neo, or Mars. I dont want to see either of them dying."

Neo was hesitant to be attacking. She felt the healing come from Hestia, but she could feel the wary eye of the leviathan crawling over her skin. She couldn't risk taking a hit from it when she knew that would likely bring more Sahagin, the rain was pouring down into her armor, and she didn't k,now when the next scalding water attack was going to come. On top of all of this, she was unsure if she should've come here in the first place. At the very least, she knew she wouldn't be the weakest link, she wanted to be one of the last to teleport out. It was instantaneous and she could read the situation quite clearly. It wasn't going to be hard to see what was going on now. She wanted to let it be finished, and that was what was going to happen. She was going to stick around until she could no longer. And once she had a foothold or Calrex was able to resume his duties as tank, Neo would make sure she was doing what little damage she could.

Zandra gritted her teeths as she saw more and more players disapear from the fight. Thru to crystals or some other way. They wasnt dead since their names was still there. But even when so many have left, they was still a strong group standing steady, not giving in. She listened to Itzals words and smiled.
"You dam right. Their bames are still there and they had way to much health to be one shotted. Not even Kayaba would design something like that. Not at this floor."
Zandra was ready for the four new Sahagins. But that didnt happened, they was six. She looked at Itzal, fire in her eyes. With so many enemies to fight, her fighting spirit have awoken. 'No, calm down.' she said to herself in her mind. But no, the excitment was to strong. Since the enemy was new spawns, she could use her charge again. "Burn in hell!" she screamed at the dragon when her axe cleaved thru its body, continuing thru the new veterans, setting on ablaze. She tried to finish of with the water crystal, but only hitted air. "Ari..." she started to tell her to go for tye water crystal. But she stopped. Ariel have been a frontliner long before herself. She knew what was best to do. Instead she changed what she was gonna say. "Ariel, Itzal, Sey, these lizards are no match for us. They think they can take us with numbers? They will regret they spawned infront of us."

Players have 76 hours to post

[Deadline is Tuesday, June 9th at 3:15 PM]

Another player left, and just as the light of the teleport crystal was enveloping it, it sparked over and grabbed the blonde nearby that player as well. A small glitch in the system for sure, but the leviathan couldn't help but feel it was appreciated by the player. Those that remained wouldn't be able to stand for much longer. They would only be able to watch as their health slowly drained away. The leviathan lobbed a scorching hot sphere of water into the arena, piercing a hole in the clouds in the process. A beam of light shone into the coiled arena, attempting to melt away what ice there was on players as a freezing wave of breath came at them once more. There was little for them to do now, and it seemed the leviathan was going to be victorious. It was as if the players didn't stand a chance in the first place. They had done so little to come against it, this was feeling like a paltry victory.

[
                    ]
[                    ]

Ability 2: Frostbite (2/2 CD)

Ability 3: Scald (3/3 CD)

One crystal is assigned to each party. Only the assigned party may target the water crystal. Hate is not gained against water crystals.

I just look towards the rapier using man and just sighs softly as i do the only thing i can do in this moment as a frozen tundra of a breathe attack and scalding whatever slam down upon my party as i look towards the leviathan. Activating focused howl i slam the pommel of my blade against my spiked shield as a ring of metal meeting metal rings across the battlefield. Alright Leviathan time to see if you can actually scratch me this time unlike when you did so before you pathetic overgrown sea serpent! I shout towards the thing before tunring towards Joemi with a incredulous look upon my face. And accept my TP crystal i have more, and you have a girlfriend to get back to Jomei. I say as i once more try to give him the teleport crystal with a determined and stubborn look in my eyes as i wait for him to accept or deny it again. Knowing that he has people who will care if he disappears.

he feels the crash of the scaling water hit his body alongside the torrential rain that withers away at his health, but thankfully the heat of his now bunring body sets the frost aside as he charges forward towards the segment with a red blade glowing. With a quick strike filled with as much of his strength as possible he strike at the segment and hopefully knocking it down towards nothing as he then backs away from it keeping his eyes lingering on the giant creature known as the leviathan to allow any opportunity to open up for the raid to strike at it once more with an all out attack from the low remaining number of people that have survived the onslaught till this point. 'We win now, or we don't at all is the situation it seems we might be in at this point.' He thinks calmly to himself while holding onto his katana blade awaiting for the moment the leviathan lowers its head once more.

Frostbite Roll:

Stat Change:
ACC: 3 (2) > 4 (3)
Sword Arts: Two-Handed Battle Axe > Martial Arts

+46 Battle Healing

The sound of chunks of ice hitting the ground as the Frostbite timer finally expired on the Ultramarine Knight as his frozen form returned back to its darker blue hue, bits of snow-like pieces softly falling off of him, "Geezes I really want to get off this ride..."

Dusting off the remaining pieces of ice stuck to his armor the bluenette looked around the area. More people had left, namely Sey and Ariel, meaning that the battle just became exponentially harder. Luckily enough there were still two players left in the third party, but that meant they couldn't afford to have their segment go down and the boss be still alive. However his team wasn't exactly in the best straits either. Excluding himself and Hestia, the others' health bars were too low to consider safe. Looking down at his hand he clenched it into a fist, but the long period of being frozen had caused a chill to course through his body, to the point that even his breath was condensing outside of being under the status effect. His arm shook as he tried to stabilize long enough to go into the stance for triggering <<All Might>>

The Grand Legionbane flashed into ether before reforming back into the Grand Gauntlets III as he glanced back at his teammates, "We need to finish this in the next few turns. It looks like both segments are almost down, so we'll have two opportunities to strike. I hate to say it, but if we drag this out any further past that we run too close of a risk of losing people...especially with the room effect not lightening up anytime soon."

Shooting forward his eyes locked onto the segment, but as he was about in striking range the chill overtook his posture as the light from his attack sputtered out and he stumbled to a stop, cursing under his breath before leaping back, focusing on bringing his senses back to center, "There's still a window of opportunity for our victory, but it skirts very close with the chance of us losing people. Hestia has enough hate to keep Leviathan's direct jet attack from targeting the other's now, but we really need to get that main body targetable and have our best hitters land their hits."
