[BR - F24] Paving the way to Floor 25 (Floor 24 Boss Battle - Leviathan)

OOC Announcements:

Spoiler

Anyone who picks up one of the broken weapons gets a vanity item with no stats called "Broken Weapon" and the following description: A weapon broken from a time long ago. Rust spots its edges and no longer functions. It may have once been the work of a long forgotten master, but the sea has claimed even this as its own.

Players have 72 hours to post

[Deadline is Wednesday, June 24th at 6:00 PM]

The leviathan was nowhere to be seen still, and the clouds continued to part. And as the rain retreated, so did the shoreline. The water began to crawl out to sea like a baby turtle taking its first steps. As more and more of the beach was revealed, a small history of what had happened could be seen. There was buried remnants of gear, weapons and shields all scattered in the wet sand. There was no telling how many people had died at this very shore. Further out, there seemed to even be hints at a small colony of these enemies. Scale covered stone peeked through the still blood red sand. fragments of what could've been.

Health bars may have been rising, preparations may have been made, but some power unseen power loomed overhead. Something was ready to ensure that someone didn't have such a good time. To some this was a game, but it was no longer something the players were playing. No, someone else was playing them.

Room Effect: Torrential Rain
A terrible storm rages on the seas, growing worse by the minute. At the start of each of Leviathan's turns, players are progressively hindered. Those with the <<Survival>> skill active take reduced penalties (noted in brackets). ACC and EVA reductions only last for the rotation they were applied:

Rotation 1: 50 mitigatable DMG [25 mitigatable DMG]
Rotation 2: 100 mitigatable DMG [50 mitigatable DMG]
Rotation 3: 150 mitigatable DMG and reduces EVA by 1 for a turn [75 mitigatable DMG]
Rotation 4: 200 mitigatable DMG and reduces ACC and EVA by 1 for a turn [125 mitigatable DMG and reduces EVA by 1 for a turn]
Rotation 5+: 250 mitigatable DMG and reduces ACC and EVA by 2 for a turn [175 mitigatable DMG and reduces ACC and EVA by 1 for a turn]

<<Leviathan>>
[
                    ]
[                    ]
[                    ]
0 MIT | 0 ACC | -2 EVA | 14 PD
Takes double damage from all sources excluding Burn damage.
Leviathan is out of reach and unable to be targeted except for howl, focused howl, and other abilities that only generate hate until one of her Segments are downed.

Passive:  Queen's Ire
Applies to a player when they deal damage to Leviathan. Reduces all sources of health and energy restoration by half (rounded down, to a minimum of 0). Destroying a Segment immediately removes Queen's Ire from its assigned party.

Ability 1: Hydro Jet
[Uses every turn]
An attack that pierces through the toughest of hides, the sturdiest of ships, and densest of armor. Leviathan rears back and launches a jet of concentrated water at the player with the highest hate. Deals 500 DMG and reduces the hate of that player against Leviathan by 3. On a non-critical hit, a player may choose to expend 5 energy at the start of their turn to ignore this hate reduction.

Ability 2: Frostbite (0/2 CD)
[2 Turn CD]
Leviathan breathes deeply, unleashing a wave of extreme frost over the area that coats players and solidifies into ice (Note that this does not take an attack roll to hit; this attack will ignore, but not interrupt, stealth; this attack does not proc thorns). At the start of the players' next turn, they must roll with the purpose "Frostbite" (This is not a post action and should be rolled after scald if applicable). On a LD 1-14, they suffer from the Freeze condition until the start of their next turn (Removes their action on the current turn and removes all EVA properties. If they are hit by a successful attack before the effect ends they take an additional 40 unmitigatable Frost DMG.). A frozen player's base DMG is reduced by 3 for one turn after the freeze effect ends (this is negated if the effect was purified). The following allow bonuses to this LD roll or ignore the effect:

  • +3 for having the <<Survival>> skill active.
  • +2 for having the Flame Aura, Flame Thorns, or Burn enhancements equipped. (Can only apply once per roll, burn effects granted from consumables do not apply)
  • +1 for every 2 EVA the player has.
  • Having the Antifreeze makes the player automatically succeed the check.
  • Suffering from the Burn effect from Scald makes the player automatically succeed the check.

Additional notes: This will proc anti-oxidants and antidotes before the roll. If a player neglects to roll for this effect, the boss will make the roll at a -5 penalty (and will apply retroactively). And though it is stated earlier, once again, this does not cost a post action. I will know you aren't reading these abilities if you ask me if it takes a post action. You cannot quick change to gain immunity either, as it takes place at the start of your turn.

Ability 3: Scald (1/3 CD)
[3 Turn CD] (starts on cooldown)
A sphere of heated volcanic ocean water is lobbed and splashes against all players in the party. Deals 100 unmitigatable DMG to the player with the highest hate, 50 unmitigatable DMG to the player with the second highest hate, and 25 unmitigatable DMG to all others (Note that this does not take an attack roll to hit; this attack will ignore, but not interrupt, stealth; this attack does not proc thorns). At the start of the players' next turn, they must roll with the purpose "Scald" (This is not a post action, and should be rolled before frostbite if applicable). On a LD 15+, their base DMG is reduced by 1 for one round. On a LD 1-14, they suffer from Burn, taking 40 unmitigatable Fire DMG at the beginning of their turn for two turns (This is affected by the snowfrost effect). The following allow bonuses to this LD roll or ignore the effect:

  • +3 for having the <<Survival>> skill active.
  • +2 for having the Frost Aura, Frost Thorns, or Freeze enhancements equipped. (Can only apply once per roll, freeze effects granted from consumables do not apply)
  • +1 for every 2 EVA the player has.
  • Having the Fireproof enhancement makes the player automatically succeed the check.
  • Suffering from the Freeze effect from Frostbite makes the player automatically succeed the check.

Leviathan, all Segments, Water Crystals, and any remaining Sahagin retreat. Torrential Rain is disabled. ---

<<Segment 1>> [Diamond Dust]
[                    ]
50 MIT | 2 EVA

AoE attacks cannot include more than one segment. Though they die and respawn, Segments cannot be affected by Charge more than once, and effects like debuffs will continue to affect a downed/respawned Segment.
One segment is assigned to each party. When a Segment is destroyed, Leviathan lurches forward and becomes targetable for 1 turn for all parties (stacks with other segments being destroyed). The destroyed Segment immediately respawns with a set of Sahagin adds. These Sahagin only target players in the party that they are assigned to and can only be targeted by players that they are assigned to. A respawned Segment has the <<Diamond Dust>> buff until all paired adds are killed.
Ability 1: Diamond Dust - Leviathan’s scales shimmer like diamonds. A Segment with the <<Diamond Dust>> buff is immune to damage.

One crystal is assigned to each party. Only the assigned party may target the water crystal. Hate is not gained against water crystals. At the start of Leviathan's turn, each living Water Crystal heals Leviathan for 3% of its max HP. When a Water Crystal is destroyed, its corresponding party gains the <<Hydrated>> buff.
Ability 1: Hydrated: Instantly restores 25% of total energy (ignores queen's ire). Passive energy restoration is tripled and the effect of the Recovery enhancement is doubled for 1 turn.

Gazing towards what was being revealed i just look towards my party and then glancing towards the equipment that was left scattered on the beach from the past NPCs who had fought the leviathan and then died against whatever had happened. Which is also telling of what this floor's history was like at the very minimum. The people had live much larger expanses. Maybe a entire peaceful town, kingdom? Some civilization taht resided then the leviathan came and probably brought a flood of water that washed out the entire people with its attacks an followers as i just nod my head sullenly at the prospect of such a thing as i then move over towards the weakest member of our party and activate first aid to recover the hp that was lost to him. Looking out towards the players and what this means i just nod my head when hearing Calrex' theory. I think at this point Calrex you might be right. This water is going to do something  and i don't think it'll be anything good. It's best to prepare as much as we can. And if you have something Calrex like a antidote take it now we don't need you being hit by frosbite so many times again.

Looking towards the situation he just waits patiently as the only thing they can do is just prepare as much as they can however it seems that himself having been one of the only two people brave enough to attack the boss before it receeded and thus causing the rain to disappear. That decision having crippled his DPS capacity as his energy doesn't recover at all though his hp recovers ever so slightly once more as he glances towards the healer of their group before just turning away not caring to talk to the woman who is just doing his job needing to thank her for doing what her job entails. So then what is the plan now? To just wait since not everybody here has a safeguard they can use, and on top of that now everyone can just attack endlessly. He says towards the people within his party as he then awaits for a response from any of them as he keeps his blade ready to go and attack.

"It feels good to have someone with that thinking staying." she said woth a smile to the scout. "We better prepare for an atta..." But that was all she said before her smile disapeared and was replaced by a confused and worried look. "What the f*** is happening?" she said in a calm voice."Why do they not do anything?" she glanced at Itzal before she walked down to where the shoreline was. She hesitated for a second before going into the water. or rather, where there have been water just seconds ago. The ground was scattered with weapons and stuff. She went down on one knee beside an old sword. She picked it up to see if it held any clues. She raised an eyebrow as she red the text. 'The sea have claimed it as its own'. She rose, still holding the blade as she scanned the horison. She had been in several boss fights, but this was a first. "What is happening?" She said to herself. Then she turned to everyone as she threw the sword further out. "These are just junk. No use." she started before continuing. "Thou it said 'the sea has claimed it as its own.' I guess we will soon be hit by the sea. It think we have disturbed it for to long by now, getting quite annoyed of us tiny flies disturbing its sleep." She said as her eyes turned back towards the horison.

The ginger's eyes opened once his Meditation skill had run its course, leaving the man more energized. Jomei's breathing had slowed back to its usual, calm routine. The other players behind him spoke in low tones, curious about what else was in store for them. However, he did not hear anyone speak of retreat, and as he looked over his shoulder at his friends and comrades, he could see they all did agree on staying. As he turned back to face the waters in which the Leviathan had retreated, the addition of more beach had caught his attention. The tide slowly retreated back towards the deep blue ocean, revealing more and more sand. The farther out the tide pulled, the more hidden curiosities were revealed under it. Old, rusted weapons of warriors long gone, and hints of an ancient civilization poked out from the still crimson stained sand as well. The sight sent a chill down his spine. Was the Leviathan the cause of this destruction? Jomei shook his head.. this was a digital world, made to seem this way. He blamed the close calls to death for feeling this was much more real.

Jomei took a few steps forward onto the newly revealed beach, staring out into the abyss of the ocean. Still no signs of the boss monster. "The tide retreating can mean one of two things; either the boss is absorbing a mass amount of water for a devastating attack.. or there is going to be a tidal wave." he spoke to the group as he turned and walked back towards them. "Either way.." his fingers wrapped around the handle of Oathkeeper, who's point was still stabbed into the wet sand. He pulled the blade from the ground and turned to face the water yet again, "We need to be ready for anything."

He smiled and nodded to Zandra, in the same mindset as her.  However eventually he did start to become concerned when there was no attack.  His smile turned into a frown as Zandra walked forward to look at the field of broken equipment.  This was bad..  The boss was giving them multiple turns to prepare for it's coming attack?  That was always a bad, very bad sign.  "This is bad..."  He muttered quietly.  He looked at his stats again and watched as his battle healing skill continued to slowly crawl his energy back up to maximum.  But he had a feeling that it would be working overtime soon.  He looked back up as Zandra came back and told him what the flavor text read.  He nodded and turned to Jomei when he spoke up next.  "I have a feeling it's the latter,"  he said in his american accent.  "The flavor text of these broken weapons mentions how the 'ocean claimed it for it's own'. It's a gamble but we should probably prepare for a giant wave of some form."  If he needed to, he could always thrust his blade into the ground and hold on tightly.  The question was..  "Zandra, I can thrust my blade into the ground and use it to hold on tightly if a wave hits.  Can you do something similar with your ax?  If not I'm pretty sure I can lend you another sword for that purpose."

Note:  Forgot to apply battle healing on my last post, so applying it twice in this post.

Hearing Hestia the blunette gave a small laugh to himself, "I would, but unfortunately I didn't get any prepared. I wasn't expecting another debuff to happen to Achilles right before the battle, or else I probably would have made as many of those as possible."

"This is definitely not a good sign though. I hate it when my suspicions are right, especially because a tidal wave will likely be an AoE attack and no amount of Hate will make focus on a single target. Most likely going from our current circumstances we'll have to hunker down. Getting to higher ground would be the normal recommended course of action, but it seems like that would eject us from the battle."

"Unfortunately it doesn't look like anyone has anything to temporarily boost our mitigation further, and unless someone has a mass block ability they discovered the best we can do is heal up and wait for the boss to be in range of our attacks again. Hopefully if you're DPS focused your evasion may help with reducing some of the potential damage, but this is a new technique I can't recall being used in previous boss battles."

Crossing his arms for a moment his forearms ignited with swirling blue energy before bringing them apart, a brief blue glow encapsulating his form as he activated <<Parry>> to prepare for any damage that might come that will preemptively trigger his Safeguard, "At least if it does do something sneaky like bringing back that damage dealing rain effect again I'll be able to send some of the damage back at the Leviathan."

The water line retreated, and Neo was waiting for what was going to come. Everyone could feel it in the air and from the shore, but not many did anything. A couple had preparations planned out, but she didn't have anything that she could do. The few resources that may have been useful were still locked tight inside of her inventory and not available to her. Making a mental note to have some status prevention items in her inventory for future battles, Neo waited for the inevitable strike that came their way.

As she did that, she could feel the darkness in her rapier pulsating quicker, as if waiting for the blood-lust to begin again. It was a strange feeling, but for now she accepted it. Later she would need to figure out more about it. A floor boss wasn't the time to get caught up in her own problems though, that was all taken by the presence of a much bigger threat.

Players have 72 hours to post

[Deadline is 2:30 PM PDT on Saturday, July 27th]

The leviathan retreated, and then so did the sea. But with that retreat came a calm surrender. Their fear no gone, they wished a return. A blight was spotting their beach they treasured. So another group they shall claim as their own. Summoning from the depths of their being, a height was achieved greater than all. A body of water now lay the wrong way. And sent towards the players, it crashed against them all. Some fared better than others, but all could feel its power. Its force was strong, and there was no room for even the slightest of breaths. As the ocean returned to its regular state, the monster returned with greater hunger. And with the players at their weakest, it did gaze upon them. It was time for the strong to be separated, and the weak to be killed. No more would they see the aloof beast. For now it was a fight to the very bitter end.

[
                    ]
[                    ]

Ability 3: Scald (0/3 CD)

Ability 4: Tsunami
[Acitvates once when Leviathan reaches 20% or lower Health]
Leviathan, all Segments, Water Crystals, and any remaining Sahagin retreat. Torrential Rain is disabled, and remains inactive for the remainder of the fight. Leviathan takes no action for two turns. On the third rotation, the Tsunami strikes, dealing each player 50% of their current HP in unmitigatable damage (Note that this does not take an attack roll to hit; this attack will ignore, but not interrupt stealth; this attack does not proc thorns).

Seeing the giant wave traveling towards myself and the entirety of the wave i just wince as the incoming wave comes to crash down upon us. The feeling of the crushing weight of the water makes me get slammed into the ground and traveled quite a small distance. When the water is done rushing over and receding i gasp for air alongside a groan of pain as i get up onto my feet slowly feeling a bit dazed, and off balance. Glancing towards the party checking to see how they are doing i just wince at the numbers that i am seeing. Making my way towards neo i activate the healing skill as a green aura surrounds my hands and then Neo as her health shoots up right away as i then let out a breathe of relief. Next round i can activate field medic to heal bomb us all to full. Take out the segment now so everyone can benefit from my healing to the maximum! We need to gain the advantage swiftly while their is no rain, and no frostbite raining down upon us! I shout towards the group thinking quickly towards what can give myself and my party as much healing as possible.

The tsunami that had formed was one of a rather impressive size and clearly meant to have no escape which was evident by this point as it starts to lose its momentum and thus crash down upon each and every player present. With a sigh of resignation he just holds his breathe that quickly gets let out by the force of the water that crashes down upon him and every player that was present. Getting washed back and away he slowly gets back up onto his feet slowly and carefully. Gazing towards the ravenous hungry leviathan his eyes steel over in resolve as he prepares himself.

With the rain having passed Mars just grins as he activates his sword art right away as his blade ignites into a red glow ready to take out the segment to get the healing he needs as he rushes forward not paying a single thought to what anybody else would say or could say against him he wants to end this as swiftly as possible. As he can only hope he'll have enough energy afterwards to at least stun a enemy to delay a possible attack sent towards himself. Rushing towards the thing he quickly starts cutting it as fast as he can as his blade meets the toughened scales of the large creatures before he quickly kicks himself away from the creature. And getting back into formation with his party as the other DPS will hopefully be making their move to strike at the large reptilian beast. Glancing towards his familiar he only grins in amusement as the once fiery beast has been doused entirely of its flames.

Olive eyes stared in disbelief at the giant tsunami that formed off in the distance and now towered over the players. Quickly looking to his sides, Jomei longed for something to hold on to, to avoid him being flung into the cliff side. However, it was too late, and the tidal wave crashed down over their heads. What started off as the sound of rolling thunder became but muffled, everything becoming dark and blurred. Jomei could see his allies being flung in every direction from the force of the water, the ginger's body unwillingly traveling backwards.

Jomei's momentum was broken as the center of his back collided with something hard, the rocky side of the cliff that created such a battlefield. The water continued to apply pressure on him, trying to force him through the wall. Finally, after a long few minutes of thrashing and trying to catch his breath, the water began to subside. Jomei crashed into the sand gasping for breath, coughing up any water that he had swallowed. Raising his head, he could see that the Leviathan had returned, looking even more vicious than before. It's piercing red eyes scanning all of the players on the battlefield as it returned to its original position, raising its head to keep the players from attacking it.

Pushing himself onto his feet, Jomei regained his balance. Its health was low, and so was theirs. All they needed was to land a few rounds of attacks and they would get out of this. Jomei rose his sword and pointed it at the Leviathan, "All right everyone! This is it! Give it everything you've got!! Charge those weak points and lets kill this thing!"  After his short, hopefully inspirational, speech, Jomei rushed towards the segment that his team was assigned to. Boots trudging through the thick, soaked sand. Launching himself into the air, Jomei thrust the tip of Oathkeeper deep into the segment, dropping its health a decent chunk with each following strike.

As he had guessed, Calrex watched as the tide retreated further and further before a massive wall of water rose up in front of the two parties, the Leviathan reemerging behind it as the massive wave picked up each of the players, throwing them against a wall. Kneeling down he had slammed his right arm into the sand as far as he could and held on for dear life, but after the attack concluded he noticed that the only thing consumed was his Safeguard, "So this thing is a one-hit attack, alright then..."

Glancing up at the health bars of his teammates he felt a bead of sweat form on the side of his head. In relation to whatever health they had before, it had been reduced by exactly half of the total amount, "So this thing has a scaling attack based on how much health you have remaining. That's probably good and bad, depending on where your health is at. The lower it is, the less damage you should supposedly take overall, but it also leaves you more open to falling against its other more conventional attacks."

Hearing the DPS fighters rush forward the bluenette pulled his gauntlet out of the sand and quickly assumed the stance he uses to activate <<All Might>>, "No time to be wasting. We need to get an opening to strike now, or most likely that attack will be coming again soon."

Rushing forward his right fist lit aglow with light blue energy before he slammed it into the respawned segment assigned to their team, adding some more damage to the already hurt part of the boss, "Now come on break already..."

Itzal watched as everyones health was thrown down by 50%.  This was..  A new kind of attack.  And it was yet another game changer in the front lines.  They really had to strategize from this point onward.  He didn't even hesitate, he used the horn on Zandra and himself, then used the healing crystal to boost his health further.  His actions were so quick to do so that he doubted she'd even notice until he spoke up.  "Ok, at least the rain isn't back.  Zandra, I healed us both up as much as I can.  Go ahead and hit it as hard as you can, and then we'll try to hang in here.  The moment we get the chance, I want us to switch hate.  I have six evasion and I can increase it to seven with the disguise skill...  Not that it matters much given it's debuff.  I have higher health right now and can evade it long enough for us to Finnish this guy off.  You ok with me acting as a dodge tank for the rest of this fight?"  He was hoping she would because her health was just so low right now.  He didn't want to risk her dying and at this point he had a far better chance of surviving it's attacks than she did.

There was little room for her to defend herself as the wave came crashing towards them. She tried to get her parasol to block some of the water rushing towards her, but it was little use. She managed to keep her footing, but her health dropped quite low. Glancing around, it seemed only Calrex was left standing tall after that attack. After receiving the healing from Hestia, she nodded towards her and made her way forward for her attack. Her blade grew dark once more as the fallen energy within it lashed out with her own attack. It seemed to be doing damage, but she wasn't sure if all of their attacks were going to be enough to take the segment down or not. They needed to finish this fight. Though it seemed to have gotten a bit easier, they were running dangerously low on resources at this point.

As Zandra watched the geat scattered all over wherre the ocean had been just seconds earlier. The ocean really did decoded to strike back on the player. It didnt wanted to share the junk gear with tye players. As Zandra saw the huge masses of water coming towards her, she raised her axe and slammed it into the ground, burying almost the whole axehead. She held onto the axe as the water came flushing on her. The soubd was deafening. Almost painfully. She grit her teeths as her fingers started to slip. But just before she couldnt hold on anymore, the tsunami ended.
She looked at Itzal with a smile as he healed them. "Dont worry Itzal, yet this girl isnt planning to go down. I have quite alot mit and evasion as well." and withthat she swung her axe on tue segment that have appeared. She was tired after the wave so her damage was barely visible. Players have 70 hours to post

[Deadline is Tuesday, July 30th, at 7:00 PM PDT]

The players may have been caught off guard by the tidal wave, but the Leviathan would give them no respite from the power of the sea. A smaller wave of boiling hot water cashed into the newly coiled arena. And quickly following that was the frigid breath of the leviathan breathing down on top of the players. With all of this was accompanied its now signature high pressure jets of water that blasted one of the players into the sand. This comeback was strong, but the creature was beginning to fear it may not be enough. These players were being more tenacious then any other group it had fought off before. Normally they would succumb long before this form of attack was necessary. It wouldn't be long before all gambits would be over and the fight to the finish line of endurance would be growing nearer. A finish line that would be painted with the losers blood.

[
                    ]
[                    ]

Ability 2: Frostbite (2/2 CD)

Ability 3: Scald (3/3 CD)

<<Segment 1>>

"You've got to be shitting me.." Jomei cursed under his breath, looking at the tiny sliver of health that their segment had left. The serpent's body began to tremble, before releasing a wave of attacks, one after another. First came the scalding hot water that shot out from its pores. The hot water collided with the players, Jomei barely dodging enough out of the way to avoid any lasting effects. From its mouth, in the same moment, that fire-hose like spray collided with Hestia, pushing her back and taking her down a notch, but nothing she could not handle. Finally, in a last ditch effort to catch the players off guard, the Leviathan released a blast of freezing cold mist into the air. Jomei turned and watched as the frigid cloud rained on top of him before turning to try and escape from its radius. However, for once he was not fast enough, and his muscles began to tighten up and freeze yet again, becoming coated in a sheet of ice.

Looking towards the fiery water and the freezing breathe come down at once i can only silently curse our own luck as the segment even has the health to outlast the attacks that three people had done against it as i raise my shield towards the combined waters. Feeling the scalding water i feel it ignite my armor as i just bite my lip and take the attack for now as i glance towards Calrex. Hey Calrex if Neo doesn't get frozen can you please howl against Levaithan you have more health then me and i can't take this kind of  damage for much longer! I shout towards the blue haired man as i then see the leviathan gain a new target in the form of the black haired DPS as i curse silently towards myself as i just activate first aid on jomei to recover his health to make sure that he can survive at least a bit longer against his boss.  With that i am just stuck gazing at the bsos as it stares down the other DPS. 'oh no'

Feeling the burning water hit his body was not a particuarly fun experience after being surrounded in a crushing wave of a tsunami the damage having been enough, and then add on top the leviathan hitting the healer and now leaving him the target. he wasn't going to make it to the next round if he dind't leave now if the odds were stacking up against him. With his form having the burn status effect he just raises the crystal upwards. I'm taking my leave have the other party join yours and then take down this beast if you can do so. I have done my part for what i can do against a giant sea serpent. He says calmly and then says the simple command phrase to get him out of this fight. Teleport, Town of the Beginnings. With that a light blue light surrounds him as he leaves the fight with the only thing he hears last as the roar of the leviathan as he can only assume it prepared another attack.
