[F1-SP] Symphony <<Secret Medicine of the Forest>>

Recommended Posts

Symphony looked at the quest on her display. "Huh, it says that we need to find a medicine called "Little Nepent's Ovule". Strange name for such a thing, but I guess it helps calm a mysterious illness called Serpent's Kiss. Jeez, all these diseases and medicines have odd names and even odder illnesses connected to them. Oh, well, I guess we can't help such things, huh, Cloak?" she said, looking at the black raven perched on her right shoulder. "Caw!" Cloak cried back.

"Yeah, yeah, let's get moving. Can't help the small boy in the village by just standing here." Symphony closed the quest page on her display and opened up her map instead. She marked a wooded area a short distance away from her normal hunting grounds where she gathered materials.

She headed towards the gates that marked the end of the Safe Zone and then stepped out into the woods, heading towards her hidden path to her hunting grounds.

She followed a dark, shaded trail for about a mile or so until she reached a wooded clearing: her hunting grounds. However, it was still early in the morning, so nothing of great importance or of any type of threat was lurking around just yet. Symphony decided to take a break and try and find some materials while she was in the clearing. This spot was known for its beauty and luscious flora that hid special flowers and mosses used as dyes and materials.

After searching for a little while, she could not find anything fresh to pick. The flowers she needed were still only budding, not yet ready for the picking. Sighing, Symphony stood up and opened her map again. The wooded clearing where the Nepent that dropped the medicine spawned was just half a mile to the North. "Alright, Cloak, North it is we go." He cawed in agreement.

Symphony approached the clearing cautiously. She knew the enemies were not too powerful and she was probably over-leveled for them, but a big mob could overpower her quickly. She glanced around. Hm, nothing to be seen. She crouched and walked into the open. Suddenly, from all 4 sides, Nepents leaped out and surrounded her. "Fly, Cloak!" she called as she launched up into the air. He would be her eyes in the sky and would signal the movements of the enemies as well as warn her if more were to come. He soared in the air above her, keeping watch.

Meanwhile, Symphony gauged the situation around her from the ground. There where four of them. A solid mob. But they were all weak with 7 HP and only 3 damage. Ha, this was going to be easy. Each Nepent looked like a giant plant with vines to attack and a giant mouth to... well, she had no clue what the mouth was truly for, but she didn't want to find out.

"Hiss!" the first Nepent plant yelled as it sent its two tentacles out. One slapped Symphony across the face, but it only made her flinch. It seemed the things weren't that strong. Good, Symphony thought. This should all be easy then. She growled and glared at the offending Nepent plant. "You're first then, it seems." She charged her blade and launched towards the first plant, dodging its other attacks and stabbing it twice in the body. With the second stab, the monster turned into thousands of pixels and disappeared. One down. Three to go, Symphony thought as she turned to face the rest of the disgusting plants. "Alright, which one of you is next?" she shouted.

Suddenly, Cloak cawwed, a warning of attack. However, Symphony only notice too late as the second Nepent plant struck across her chest with its tentacle. The attack merely made Symphony take a step back. Nothing powerful.

"Ah, I guess you're my next target then," Symphony said to the second Nepent plant. She charged her blade again and made another sword art dash for the stupid plant. However, the second Nepent had seen how its brother died and had learned Symphony's movements for her sword art attack. It quickly knocked her to the side by a few feet with a quick bash with its tentacles. "Gah!" Symphony cried as she flew to the side. She managed to land on her side and roll back up to a standing position. Cloak cawed from the air with concern, but she was alright. She had had worse fights before. Near-death fights.

"Alright. You're tougher than you look," she said while her turning her attention back to the Nepent plant attacker. "But not tough enough." She raised her dagger and prepared another attack, pacing around the Nepent and planning her assault carefully.

Pacing around the enemy, she thought she spotted a weak point at the base of one of its tentacles. Though it would be difficult to hit, with her sword art she may have the speed to get to the tentacle without the beast attacking her. She charged her dagger once again and dashed behind the enemy quickly, hoping to take it by surprise. But to her own surprise, she saw the other two Nepents leap to their brother's aid. They grabbed her by both arms before she could land her attack and launched her back in front of the other Nepent. She landed on her back, the wind knocked out of her. Meanwhile the other Nepent crawled closer with its root legs and slapped her across the face with its tentacles. Symphony quickly got up and backed away from the monster plants. It seems she would have to use her normal attacks on the second Nepent since he and the others had managed to spot her sword art attack.

Watching from above, Cloak saw that the three Nepents began dashing together in a circle, entrapping Symphony in the middle of it. He let out a caw of warning, but it was too late. The group attack had already began. The Nepents dashed faster and faster until Symphony lost track of which one was which. There was no way she could dodge all of their attacks at this great of speed. One by one, they launched tentacle attacks at her, landing most of their hits. "Ow!" Symphony cried out. The attacks might not be strong, but they did sting a bit. Like ripping off a bandage -- but not as bad as a tattoo on the shoulder blade. Symphony knew that pain well, and luckily their attacks were not that bad. Finally, the group broke up their attack and backed away, undamaged. They made weird noises that sounded like gargled laughs, which emanated from their weird, mouth-like openings on the tops of their bodies.

"Alright, I see you guys are coordinated. However, you still can't hurt me very much. Just wait, once I'm able to land an attack, you'll all be dead quicker than a wink." Symphony smiled. She was beginning to enjoy this fight. Sure, she wasn't landing as many hits yet, but she was having fun with smart targets that knew when to attack and how. However, she knew that although she could take these hits forever, they would soon become tiresome. Though before she could think another thought, the three nepents were attacking again!

Symphony dodged one of the Nepents' long tentacles, but the rest grabbed her and threw her up into a tree. She hit the tree trunk and fell to the ground, with branches breaking her fall all the way down. After she had hit the ground, Symphony let out a small "Ow". Even Cloak up above winced a little at the fall.

However, Symphony soon enough jumped back up onto her feet. "Alright, that was a good enough attack," she said while stretching out and cracking her back. "But, I'm still not dead, so you haven't won yet." After she was finished speaking, she readied her dagger once more and dashed to her right where the second Nepent was. Before the thing could attack, she stabbed into its side and leaped away. As she leaped back, the thing struck her in the side, knocking her to the side just a little bit. While she had been attacking, another one of the Nepents had gotten behind her and struck her against the back of the head. She quickly turned around to face it while holding the back of her head where it had hit her. The spot stung, but it had not broken skin at all. Cloak cawed with support from the sky. Symphony looked up at him, "You're supposed to let me know when they attack!"

Cloak cawed back, as if he was going "Yeah, yeah." However, he did take note that he should keep better watch. A few moments later, he saw two of the Nepents planning a joint attack. He let a large caw and motioned with his head at the two monsters. Symphony took notice and managed to dodge just in time. However, as she leaped away a fourth Nepent surprised her and grabbed her around the waist. It threw her up a few feet and let her crash down to the ground. Luckily the thing had only launched her about 7 feet in the air, so the fall wasn't too great or painful. Though she still let out an "Oof" as she landed on her butt. "Stupid tentacle beast," she muttered to herself as she picked herself up and dusted herself off. Cloak winced in the air at the fall but was relieved when his friend got up unharmed.

"Alright, time to take three enemies down to one," Symphony said while pacing around the second Nepent. She had her eyes set on this one since her was the weakest. And with her base attack of five, she could easily take him out if she could just land a hit. She motioned for Cloak to distract the Nepent so that she could get a good shot at the base of its tentacles, which seemed to be a weak point. Cloak then dived down and began to pester the Nepent, dodging its tentacles while maintaining its attention. When Symphony saw a clear opportunity, she dashed for the monster's weak points and cut off both its tentacles. The Nepent let out a terrifying scream and broke into thousands of pixels. Suddenly, from behind, another Nepent smacked Symphony out of the way and back into a tree. Symphony braced herself from the impact and was only winded once again.

Cloak began attacking the third Nepent, dodging its attacks and even pecking at the flower blooming atop its head. Symphony saw that he was distracting the plant so she could go in for the kill. She quickly charged her blade for a sword art attack and dashed in, zooming around the enemy and stabbing it deep in its sides, nearly tearing it in half. The Nepent let out a loud scream and fell to the ground, breaking into pixels just like its brothers. "Ha, not so tough now are you," Symphony said. However, as she said this, the final Nepent reached out and struck her in retaliation for its dead brothers. Symphony was only pushed back a few feet and then turned to glare at the monster. "Hey, didn't anyone ever tell you it's rude to interrupt someone when they're speaking? It seems like I'll have to teach you a lesson then."

Symphony motioned Cloak to take his position back up in the air in order to watch out for the boss variant of the Nepents. She wanted to know when that one showed up so she could be ready. "Time to die and join your brother," Symphony said to the last Nepent as she charged her blade for the final time. She made a mad dash around the Nepent, confusing and disorienting it while striking out with her dagger, piercing deep into the monster. It let out a scream and was dead, just like the others. "Well that wasn't too bad," Symphony called up to Cloak as she sheathed her dagger and took a swig of water from a canister in her inventory. Good fight indeed. Suddenly, Cloak let out a caw from the air, a warning. "Ah, that must be the one I've been waiting for." She prepared herself for the big one to show up.

At first, Symphony smelled what seemed like a sweet perfume. What could it be? It smelled nice. Could a friendly flower have bloomed? But no, it was the flower that grew above the Nepant Boss' head that gave off this nectar-like smell in order to lure and trap pray. It came crashing through the brush with its smell and roared at the woman that stood before it.

Symphony immediately leaped back as it tried to attack and rolled to the side. The monster whipped its tentacles about and a terrifying scream came from the opening on the top of its head. "Ooo, now that's creepy as heck," Symphony commented. She wasn't scared of the beast, but its cries were annoying to her sensitive ears. "Alright, monster. You can shut up now. We all know you're hear," she said while pacing around the thing, looking for any weaknesses. It seemed like the flower on top of its head could be a possible weakness, but its tentacles carefully guarded it.

Symphony decided to try to attack the beast with a basic attack to test its attack. She wanted to learn how this creature moved, what its weaknesses were, and how it reacted. First, she tried to attack the roots at its base, a greater area and low to the ground. It was easy to reach. However, it was also close to the base of the tentacles that guarded it. She couldn't get in a good attack there and had to keep dodging.

She called up to Cloak. "Look for a weak spot for me to attack, Cloak. I need to know how to take this guy down. He seems a bit powerful haha." At least she had a challenge for once. This guy made his lesser counterparts seem like a piece of cake.

"And to you big guy," she said while facing the Nepent Variant. "You're going to fall to my blade today. Don't doubt it for a second." The plant monster screamed in response.

Next, she went for the back of the plant. Maybe its back was unprotected or softer like with some regular plants. However, again, she was met with the tentacles that could sense when she was behind the thing. Hm, this is going to be tricky, she thought to herself. Especially with the beast's mitigation. It was the same amount as her base damage, which was frustrating. The only way to hurt it a lot would be to use a sword art. So she charged her blade and aimed at the base of one of the tentacles. However, even with her enhanced speed through the sword art, she could not get past the tentacles to attack any known weak point. Symphony grew frustrated and her brow furrowed. Now she would have to wait another turn in order to save up her energy. This would leave her open to an attack from the beast, which may be powerful.

Symphony paced around the Nepent variant, waiting for it to attack. If she was lucky, its attacks would be similar to its weaker brothers, and she would easily be able to dodge it. And lucky she was, as the Nepent seemed to try and grab and slap with its tentacles in similar patterns as its brothers. Symphony nimbly and easily dodged the attacks, jumping over and ducking under the strong vines. Cloak cawed from above with encouragement. He was proud that his partner was doing well so far. Hopefully she would not get too banged up with this fight. Come on, she thought. Show me a weak opening. She was trying to concentrate the best that she could while also dodging the wild tentacle attacks from the strong Nepent. She would have to try for the flower eventually. Her natural instinct said that that should be a perfect weak spot. But it was very protected by the tentacles. A tough place to hit.

She decided that she would just have to go for it. She took a moment to concentrate and then charged up her blade. Dashing faster and faster around the beast, she finally struck at the flower atop its head. She managed to strike it twice before she got hit by the tentacles and thrown to the ground. Rolling away quickly, she got up and saw that the Nepent Variant was bleeding from the flower, the blood dripping onto the white front of the monster plant. The monster let out a scream and clutched its flower with its long tentacles. The pain just managed to make the thing angrier, and it began to throw its tentacles about itself in no type of pattern whatsoever. It seemed to be blind with anger, lashing out at anything near it. It began to take out a few bushes in the area, tearing them up by the roots and throwing them over the tree tops. Symphony would need to be more careful now.

She began to circle around the Nepent variant, watching its moves and dodging when it lashed out blindly. Several times, she nearly avoided its wrath. I'm going to have to do something quickly. I can't keep dodging like this. Eventually I'll get tired and get hit with a hard blow, she thought to herself. And getting hit was not something she liked, especially if it was a hard blow. Meanwhile, Cloak was keeping watch overhead, trying to find an opening to attack. When he suddenly cawed, Symphony knew this may be one of her only chances to strike. She dashed in, dagger in hand, and cut deep into one of the base nerves of the plant, paralyzing it for a short bit. This way, she could get a break to recover and not have to worry about the plant attacking. She collapsed against a tree and closed her eyes, taking her canteen of water out of her inventory for a drink. "Cloak, come and rest," she called. She knew they would only have a minute or so to rest, but the raven had been up in the air for a while and he needed a period of rest just like she did. He landed on her shoulder and drank some water that she offered to him.

Symphony decided to wait a while and save up her energy before attacking again. Facing the Nepent variant monster once again, she saw the paralysis feature of her weapon begin to wear off on the thing. It slowly began to move its tentacles about once more and let out another screech, loud and strong. It was letting her know that it hadn't given up yet and was still strong enough to fight. She smiled. At least this one was a true fighter. Led to a better fight in the end. She just hoped that all this trouble was worth it in the end. Hopefully this monster would drop the medicine that she needed.

As the Nepent variant came back to full strength, she whistled as a signal for Cloak to fly back into the air for safety and got to her feet. The Nepent launched a weak attack at her, but was too slow to come close to hitting her as she dodged slightly to the left.
