The blond haired girl exited the Alchemists shop, the package for the blacksmith in hand. She had gained a few levels from the last quest but was still quite far form being useful. With only a rank one in First Aid, she still had no potential heal and her damage only affected Floor one monsters. Pushing open the door to the NPC blacksmith shop, her nose would become immediately with the smell of smoke and metal. A metal clang would be heard and a bearded NPC would be found hammering upon a greatsword. She watched as he thrusted the weapon into cold water which made a sizzling noise as the blade passed through. Walking forward and up to the counter, she would place the package upon it. After placing the sword upon a rack, the NPC blacksmith would begin to greet her. "Aye there lass. You've done me a service" Taking the package and putting it away he would turn back towards her. "Say, you wouldn't mind helping me out a little bit more eh? There's some boar pups outside of the city. I need their tusks, about three of em. Bring me em and I'll make it worth your while" The girl would nod in response and move out the door.

She moved briskly through the Starting City, stopping to talk with none. Jun had vanished and she wasn't sure if she wanted someone else in her party for the rest of the day. With these quests you were forced to do your own work anyway. As she exited the town she reached to her back and pulled the spear that rested there out of its pole sling. A Two-handed Assault spear in hand, she would move to the quest's location. A few hundred meters away, she would survey the scene and find the small boars running around, pushing around the dirt and grass. She would begin approaching and as she got in range one would squeal and dart away before turning around. As it snorted, two more boar pups joined it and began to paw the ground, kicking it up. Hooking her lantern to her side she would grab her spear with both hands pointing it towards her three enemies. If she had an AoE attack she could have taken them all out rather easily, but she had no access to any sword arts. Her enemies began to charge her and she would await them.

Her first enemy would charge her straight on. In retaliation to its attack, she would thrust her spear forward, driving the pointed end straight at her target. The pup would squeal, darting to the side moments before its peril. While she was distracted, the other two pups came from the side, slamming into her head on. Thrown onto the ground, she would scramble to get up and retrieve her spear. 'WEEEEEE' The pigs squealed. Checking her HP gauge, she found her armor had managed to block out the damage, leaving her fine condition. 'That's alright. I got this'. She did not exactly prefer to do the fighting, but she understood it was necessary to get her through the game. For the longest time, she had let Chaos do the fighting and she sat back and watched. That had been a mistake. That was the reason why she had put others in danger to protect her own well being. She had unintentionally exploited others and placed them in harms way.

The boar pups would circle back, snorting unhappily as they did. As they finally all faced her, they would begin to charge. Familiar with their fighting patter now, she waited until the first boar pup got within range before thrusting forward, the point of the spear passing through the head of her target. With one firm strike, the pup would shattering into data pixels. The second boar pup would manage to hit her side once more, but she remained firm and managed to stop the other one from finishing its attack. Stepping back and returning to her initiating stance she would look at the window screen which thankfully told her that she had retrieved one of her tusks. With a third of her work done and out of the way, she flashed a determined smile at the other two pups which were now a bit unsettled after watching her dispatch their friend. "Two of you left" she would mention, more to herself than anything. She wasn't the most skilled fighter, but she could manage.

With only two of her opponents left standing, she would await them with her spear. Changing their battle pattern to match the mount of enemies, the boar pups would charge her in a line, hoping to ensure one of them would get a hit in. As they charged, she would move into meet them. With them in range, she would thrust her spear forward, hoping to impale the enemy as it charged. Her thrust missed the target and the first boar pup slammed into her, knocking her back a few feet. However, before getting hit the second time, she would stab her spear into the ground to prevent it from attacking head on. Her plan worked and the second boar pup charged past her. "Alright, we can try again" She was thankful for her armor which managed to block out quite a bit of the damage. If she had more accuracy than just her lantern she would do better. Her spear could make sure that her enemies would fall with one shot, but she ahd to hit them first.

  • 2 months later...

Recovering from the last attack from the Boar pups, she would watch them assume a formation of attack. Her lantern bounced on her side and had it been real life the item would have been shattered after the previous attack. A squeal was heard indicating an oncoming charge. Twirling her weapons in her hand she brought her weapon up above her head in a smooth motion. Using momentum she would thrust the large weapon downwards with the intention of piercing the upper head of the Boar Pup. Her thrust was too early, causing the weapon to stab into the ground and the boar pup to bounce off of it. The second pup came barreling in but with swift movement she was able to scramble to the side preventing any further damage. She unearthed her weapon watching as both of the Boar Pups scurry away a good distance before circling around to face her. 'This might take just a bit longer than I thought.' she would think to herself.

Her chances of finishing the quest quickly were... awfully slim. Not only did she have a rather low chance of actually hitting her target, but there was only a 50% chance of the monster actually dropping what she needed. She had taken a more defensive position, but what if instead she go on the offensive. Instead of waiting for the enemy to come to her she moved in and attacked it instead. Taking a breath, she would firmly grasp the shaft of her spear before charging forward. Upon seeing her sudden movement, much squealing was heard from both of her enemies. The boar pups would charge to meet her, barreling straight at her. Unlike them however, she was able to quickly change directions and stop. As the boar pup would get close her would hop off to the side and then send her spear out at the side of her opponent. The weapon would finally meet its mark and the enemy would burst into pixels. However, she would not be awarded any tusks. "Dang it. I was really hoping to get lucky"

With only one enemy remaining in her way, she could tell her opponent was fearful. Holding her weapon with one hand she would slowly and cautiously move towards the final opponent. Since there was one, she didn't need to bring forth as much surprise. The boar pup would squeal before madly dashing, keeping its body angled so that it would circulate around her body. She would have to time her attack just right so that it would hit the moving target. Taking a breath, she would try to calculate the speed of her opponent just by view alone and find out how much it would move forward in the second it would take to make her attack. Making her best judgement on where the enemy would be after a few seconds, she would thrust forward but she was far too early and the boar skidded to a stop and tumbled to the ground. After flopping its ears it would look back to her and squeal. Penelo's face would pout a little. This was proving to be rather difficult.

Luckily, while her attack had not hit the opponent it had managed to stop its circling. Taking advantage of this, she would move in quickly, her spear ready for a quick forward strike. Her lantern would bounce on her side, rattling every time that it did. As she got in range of her target, she would thrust her weapon forward, the tip of her spear aimed at the small body of her opponent. The enemy would take a few steps back and to the side, causing for her spear to miss completely. This was the reason that she was a healer. Trying to hit such a small target proved to be rather annoying. Fighting was not her preference. Had she had it her way, she would never have to use her spear. However, as she was alone she had to do the work herself. She couldn't sit back and heal like she wanted to do. The boar pup would then begin to charge her but she would move out of the way and let it charge right on past her.

Today was the prime example why she had just let people like Chaos, Fyre, or Morzan do all the fighting. She had remained behind the scenes, not worried about dying or failing to poke a level one enemy with a spear. She wanted to be a support player for the reason. She could help out without fighting and make sure that nobody would die on her account. Taking the same idea that she had ended the other enemy's life with, she charged forward wildly, planning to frighten and confuse her opponent. To no surprise, the Boar Pup would squeal angrily before charging back at her. Within a second or two they would be meeting head on. As they came into range, she would thrust forward with her spear, but with a little too much force, causing the weapon to fly from her grasps. The boar pup would slam into her legs and knock her flat onto the ground. Getting up and dusting herself off, she would retrieve her spear.

Alright. She got it. She sucked. She was the only person in the history of Aincrad that would die to a beginner quest mob that could not even hurt her. She couldn't use a weapon that was larger than her. The only sad part about this game, was since she wasn't exactly using magic, she couldn't target herself with her own heal skill. That would be the first thing she managed to successfully accomplish. She would watch the Boar Pup make its last turn, changing its own direction to her. As it charged her at full speed, she sighed, not even willing to try and stop it. Maybe slamming into the ground a few times was what she needed to learn how to freaking stab a pig with a big stick. The Boar Pup would slam into her legs once more, knocking her over into the dirt face first. Pushing herself off of the ground, she would come to a stand once more. Maybe now she had paid her dues so that she could hit her target.

Facing her target without emotion, she would hold her spear up. She was gripping her weapon tight enough for her own knuckles to turn white. Her enemy had alluded her since the beginning of the battle which had started a good few minutes ago. Taking a breath and closing her eyes, she would try to calm herself for concentration. Upon reopening her eyes, she would begin her advance forward, preparing to finish what she had started. Moving forward, she would aim her weapon at the boar before pushing the spear point towards the boar pups body. The blade would finally pierce through her target, the boar pup shattering into data pixels. Sighing, she would return her weapon to her back and move through the rewards. She had managed to obtain another tusk. "One more left!" She would smile to herself and pump her hand into the air out of joy. 'Just a little bit more, and I can start to head back and then find that third quest.'

Walking through the grasslands of the first floor, she would search for more of her quest enemies. The monsters on the First Floor had thinned after the original group moved through and cleared the floor, lowering the amount of maximum monsters. Of course, monsters would always respawn, but not in the same quantity that there was originally. She knew that it could potentially be dangerous out here, so she kept a good eye out for any players that might wish to harm her. The last thing she ever wanted to do was to get into a fight with another player. She wasn't going to have many combat skills for some time, as she had no intention to do any fighting. She just wanted to become a good enough healer to support her friends and brother. She wanted to repay them back, especially Itzal who had saved her life from Fyre. She knew that she would be keeping herself in danger by not being able to fight back, as long as she kept a teleport crystal around, she thought that she would be fine.

Looking forward, she would find another Boar Pup sniffing around through the grass, seeming to be having a good time. Pulling out her spear, she would begin making her advance at her target. If she could manage to catch it by surprise, she might be able to kill it quickly and try to earn her reward. Taking a quiet breath, she would charge in. She managed to remain undetected until she was ten feet away from her enemy. The Boar Pup looked at her, squealing in fright. Taking her last few steps, she would plunge her weapon forward, aiming at the face of her opponent. Her would would strike its target, shattering her enemy upon impact. "Alright! I did it!" She would say excitedly. She thrust her weapon into the ground, letting it rest in the dirt. She once more pondered over the battle rewards and found that she had managed to find her final boar tusk. Now she could go back to the Blacksmith and finish the quest.

With all three quest items in hand, she would begin to move through the grassy area to return to the Blacksmith. Yet another quest had been completed, and her level would rise again. She would probably be about level six after she turned it in. That would raise her into the triple digits of health points, making her a lot more survivable and most likely have enough skill points to invest into another rank of First Aid. She believed at Rank three was when she could start getting the Buff Mod's, but that was still a while away. After First Aid was completely invested into, she would most likely start investing into.... What else could be considered support? She would have to look into all the available skills and choose another path. She would be Tier Two or almost Tier Two by that point. Maybe after a while, she would invest into her spear skill, which boasted one of the highest damage in the game. She probably needed to get a paralyze spear or something if she was going to be attacking any monsters. There was some people that could take a hit and didn't need constant heal. she would need something to do.

She continued her walk, ending back at the edge of town after a few minutes of walking. Moving through the city, she would look around, finding a few players walking here and there. After about Floor Ten, the first floor had become more deserted, the people that were there had no intentions of moving. Of course, for a while she had been doing the same thing. She had been perfectly content with sitting on the side lines, waiting for Chaos and the group to come back. There was a much larger group originally, and at first it was a group of friends. Chaos didn't use to crave the power that he did, it started when he got his Demonic Sword from a boss on the ninth floor. It was a quiet event boss that the guild had managed to keep to themselves. After the weapon made his stats and abilities raise, he began to want even more power, doing anything to get it. After he got himself into pristine condition, he wished to surround himself with those of the same ability and become an unstoppable force. By that point, she had begun to fear him.

Pushing open the door to the NPC Blacksmith shop, she would be greeted once again by the gruff man that ran the place. "I see you made it back in one piece lassy. Turns out you are worth more than the salt I gave you credit for" Walking forward, she would pull the tusks out of her inventory and place them upon the counter. "Three Boar Pup tusks, just like you asked. Now, you said that you would make it worth my while. What did you have in mind?" The Blacksmith would nod his head and pull out a spear and a set of light armor. "Take your pick, they aren't that good of quality, but they can be a good start to any starter adventurer like yourself" Looking over the items and their stats, she would frown. She already had equipment better than these. She should have guessed as much for a starter quest. "You can keep them. I've already got better" The Blacksmith would nod and remove the items from the counter, putting them back onto the racks from which he retrieved them from.

Turning to exit the shop, the Blacksmith would call her attention before she could get that far. "I would appreciate if you would do one more thing for me lass. I got a small gift for an artisan named Hannah in this town. If you could deliver it to her for me on your way out, I would be more than appreciative. I've got many more projects that have to get done today. I'll even through in this potion I have had for a while. something tells me you are going to need it in the long run." Offering him a smile, Penelo would answer, "I'll take it for you. I am in a generous mood today!" Taking the package and potion, she would turn towards the door one final time, leaving with the sound of hammering behind her. Blacksmithing was an interesting profession, and if you were any good at it, you could find yourself making some good items. She figured once she handed the package to this Hanna girl she would find herself embarking on yet another quest, meaning even more experience points or her. That would ensure she would level quickly/

As she exited the door, the notification for a completed quest would appear, displaying her quest rewards. She was mostly excited about the experience rewards which would ensure a level up for her. The faster she leveled up, the faster she would be useful for helping out her friends. She had wondered what had happened to Jun, her previous partner from the first quest. He was helpful and allowed for her to finish her quest... with a little more ease. It was just nice to have someone at your side for a bit. She had hardly spent any time in this game alone. Closing out the rewards from the quest, another notification would appear, indicating the start of another quest. Objective: Speak with Hannah. Examining the map for a second, she would find her out to be located in a grove of trees within the starting city. It must have been in a section that she hadn't been in, because she had never heard of this grove of trees. She also hadn't spent much time on the 1st floor. She used to mostly hang out on the ninth and twelfth floors.

The blond player would begin making her way to the grove of trees that this Hannah NPC was located in. She wondered if she would manage to find decent help this time around. If there was more combat ahead, she would have to acquire help from another player. The game would expect a player to have some form of damage by this time. A bleed enhancement was most likely more helpful than what she was bringing to the table at this point. Looking at her Zodiac Spear, she would think for a second. Should she try increasing her weapon skill for the sake of the game? She hadn't played many games, but what she did know was that every single other player had invested into the damage category. She was either playing the game entirely wrong, or was going to discover what every other player failed to notice. Maybe this games systems were to complicated for her to understand and she would have to get Itzal or Jon to explain them to her in better detail.
