Ever since Bahr had moved to the tenth floor, he had been hearing these ridiculously annoying screams at night when he was trying to sleep. After a week or so of this, black rings had begun to develop under his eyes and his body had started to feel heavier. If nothing was done about his spooky neighbor, Bahr would likely never get a full night's rest again. And if that happened, he would definitely trip over things at least three times as often. In the spirit of ridding himself of the horrendous cacophony of shrill wails, he had set out in search of the source one day to either fix whatever was causing it or silence it himself.

It seemed that Bahr wasn't the only one having problems with the shrieks, however, as he had been approached by a strange lady in dirty garb who asked him to destroy a banshee of some sort - supposedly the source of the noise. She offered 10000 col as a reward, and Bahr happily obliged. He had intended to kill the thing anyway. Opening up his menu and navigating to the messages panel, he shot a quick message to Kirbs.

Bahr squinted at the message, not sure if the typos he was seeing were his delirious imagination or the result of his sleep deprivation. With a shrug, he sent the message anyway.

Tartarus. The looming fortress that sprawled across the tenth floor, looking just as dilapitated and gloomy as the landscape it was surrounded by. At its entrance, beside a few jagged beams of wood that stood staked at an angle into the ground whose sharpened ends were stained with dried blood and covered in rot, a girl stood with her neck craned towards the tallest tower she could see. Kooh wore a blank expression, her garnet eyes almost glazed over while she stood lost to her own wandering mind.

"A haunted prison, huh?" Her mumbling came out in a gravely voice, as if it had been a while since the last time she had spoken. Her long legs were halfway bare, a pair of worn metal greaves strapped over her shins and frayed denim shorts hugging her thighs. Kooh's hands were buried into the pockets of a thin black cardigan whose hood lay past her shoulders and allowed pale blonde hair to fall freely. "Wonder if there's anything good inside..." She muttered only for herself.

Kirbs yawned as she opened up the message. Did Bahr finally find a pot of pot or something? She swore... if she found him high off his arse, she was going to whack his head upside down. She sighed and typed up quick reply back;

"Well, I guess I should actually go check if he is high off of his arse or something," she mumbled to herself as she held out her for Scarfy-- to which he willingly slid up to.

The redhead yawned as she appeared at the teleport gate. Now where was that bloody idiot? A mop of white hair caught her eye as she glanced around the two subtly. She darted over to him and grabbed the lobe of his ear with a frown. "Are you on crack, mate?! What was up with that quest, huh? Did you somehow find crack in here?! Because if so... so help me..!"

Bahr's deadened orbs slowly spun toward Kirbs, backhanding her arm away from him and staring hollow daggers into her eyes. "No. But I could sure go for some right about now," he croaked as he forced his slumped frame to stand upright. As he did, a loud screech permeated the air, setting his teeth on edge and prompting him to cover his ears with his hands, unmoving eyes still staring directly into Kirbs'. "I live on this floor, and haven't gotten a good night's sleep in over a week because of that thing. We need to kill it today, or die trying."

With that, the pair began their short journey to the abandoned prison Tartarus. Bahr had once heard rumors that the frontliners intended to renovate this into a functioning facility to imprison the orange players of Aincrad, but nothing had ever come of it. As they approached, Bahr's tired eyes fell upon another young woman cloak shielding her features from view save for the tufts of scarlet hair that cascaded from the hood's opening. "You here about the screams, too?" he inquired with a yawn as the pair approached, rubbing one of his eyes with his knuckles.

"Hnn?" Kooh turned for her eyes to fall on a pair of unfamiliar players. "Oh. Yeah." She lied in a dull tone. As if on cue, a horrible shrieking sound echoed off of the stone walls, bounced between pillars, and filled their ears as it poured out from the dilapidated entrance in front of them. Kooh wasn't drawn here by the persistent wails, nor had she stumbled upon the withered old NPC that offered a great reward for those who would venture inside Tartarus on her request. But answering the question of why she was here on her own would have taken too long, so she easily accepted the excuse presented to her.

She took a moment longer to get a good enough look at the two that approached. Equipped for combat, and at varying levels of exhaustion. "Are you both going inside?" She asked plainly, hands still resting inside of her pockets. Somehow the thought of tagging along with two other players didn't do much to weigh her decision one way or the other. She wouldn't be alone and so there was less chance of a terrible death awaiting her on the inside of the abandoned prison. But having to socialize wasn't on her list of things to do today, either. She held back a sigh and shifted her weight. 'Maybe I should just get back to Leyna.' She thought.

She sighed and rubbed her tired eye-lids. "That makes you and me both, Bahr," she muttered, shaking her head. So many sleepless nights, God, she hated it.

Kirbs' eyes drifted over to the stranger. She didn't look particularly dangerous and her crystal wasn't orange. The redhead let out a loose sigh before abruptly jumping at the sound of an ear piercing shriek.

"It's dark," she mumbled, her eyes casting down to her fumbling hands. God, she was seriously going to cry like a little [female dog] when she goes to search for that damn lair or something. She was going to keep seeing him. No, no, no. That's not going to be good at all.

Scarfy let out a low hiss as he woke up from his-- quote on quote, "well deserved nap". Well, sorry for interrupting your precious beauty sleep, too, mister. She wish she could have a nap...

Swine Bajesus emerged from Bahr's inner coat pocket, regarding the newcomer with scorn. Its beady little eyes then flickered toward Scarfy, and it promptly burrowed its way back into Bahr's pocket once more. "Wow, his first time coming out of that pocket in days, and he immediately jumps back in. I think your pet scared him, Kirbs," he chortled as he opened up his menu and navigated to the party panel. He shot an invite to the tangerine-haired youth before dismissing his windows and walking past her, toward the entrance of the prison. "You can come with if you want," he yawned, "but I'm not gonna wait up for you."

Bahr stopped when the party reached the front gate to the facility, covering his ears as yet another shriek echoed against the cavernous walls of the tenth floor. "That's it..." he muttered as he unsheathed his sword from the small of his back, a crimson energy flickering into it like a fluorescent lamp activating for the first time. He braced the flat side of the instrument against his shoulder, smashing his frame - and the blade - into the door and then ripping upward. The giant iron door was cast away with an earsplitting wrenching noise, the shriek halting abruptly as a result of the interruption. The newfound silence made the loud clang of the metal door against the rocky floor all the louder before it disintegrated into a million tiny polygonal fractals.

"Let's go," deadpanned Bahr as he stepped inside, gesturing for the others to follow.

Kooh cocked an eyebrow, watching Bahr's back for a while after he moved past her. She gave a sidelong glance towards the red-haired stranger and then shrugged when Bahr's blade wedged into the front door. She caught up to the pair as they crossed over into the interior of the facility. Garnet eyes ran over what little they could see, which was mostly just stone, iron, and cobwebs. Gross.

The disgust was apparent on Kooh's face while she held a scowl, but she stepped in behind them regardless. The room had opened up into a massive foyer with tall staircases on either side. Thick iron doors stood on every level, and Kooh couldn't tell whether they led to other rooms or halls that they would be forced to explore or they were simply closed cells. She frowned, disliking the thought of either option. Wandering towards the right side at the foot of one set of stairs, Kooh squinted in a vain attempt to strain her eyes against the low light and make out more details. She inched closer to the wall and the heavy door worked into it, craning her neck slightly to try peeking through the small barred window that might have let her see through to the other side.

BAM!

Kooh let out a short, involuntary scream of surprise as a sudden, heavy thud sounded from the metal in front of her. She jumped back, a hand having yanked itself from her pocket to hold her forearm cautiously in front of her. The sound had echoed against the far walls, and then the massive chamber grew silent once more. She let out the breath she didn't realize she'd been holding, then took another step back, now convinced that this place was teeming with monsters. "Great, cool, okay. So this place is either haunted or infested with zombies, and everything wants to kill us. Sounds about right." She grumbled, eyes still locked on the tall iron door.

Bahr's tired eyes traced the young female as she meandered forth, peeking into one of the sealed rooms and getting a loud bang in response. The scream she let out had been louder than the bang itself, reverberating against the walls lining the interior in unison with the sound that had prompted it. He would have chuckled, had he the energy to do so. Instead, one of the edges of his mouth curled upward into a lopsided grin, but only for a moment. He shambled along behind the woman, cocking his head to the side as he regarded the door. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught her timid expression. "Great, cool, okay. So this place is either haunted or infested with zombies, and everything wants to kill us. Sounds about right," she managed in a loud rumble, eyes wide as saucers still affixed to the door. She looked like a toddler who had just gotten caught trying to steal from the cookie jar.

"If you're that scared, maybe you should just go home. Don't need any scaredy cats blowing out my eardrums," he gibed, approaching the iron mass and wedging his blade between the hinges. "If you'll allow me, miss..." His words lingered for a moment as the gears in his head ground to an unflattering halt. Miss Who? He had either neglected to ask for her name, or had already lost it amidst the turbulent whirlwind of sleep deprivation that had saturated his spongy gray matter. With a shrug, he shoved his blade, wrenching the door open. It didn't move as much as he had hoped, so he released the jammed sword and placed his boot against the hilt, wedging it the remainder of the way open with a grunt. "Actually, I don't think I ever caught your name," he divulged wearily, picking up the blade that had clattered to the ground and sheathing it against the small of his back.

"Let's take a look," he coaxed, gesturing with a movement of his head to look into the room again. He waved his hand through the air in a futile attempt to clear the dust that hung here, swiveling around the threshold of the opening and looking inside. It may have just been dark, but it didn't seem like there was actually anything inside. A simulation of a ghost, perhaps? "Huh. Nothing there. That's weird," Bahr mused, taking a step back from the warped metal door and looking back over his shoulder. "Any luck, Kirbs?" he called weakly.

"Sounds fun," she sniffed, letting out a deep sigh right after. She wasn't really that scared of those things, anymore. She's seen enough crap in Aincrad to last her a lifetime. Zombies were really nothing, now. Ghosts were another thing, but it wasn't really the time and place to think about that right now. Well, maybe? They kind of were in a place filled with screaming and you know in those ghosts movies-

"Nada," she sighed, kicking around some loose rocks with her feet as she kept her head down. It wasn't really like she was actually looking for it, anyway. Why was she even here, again? Bah, she didn't want to look up. She was probably going to see his frekin' face. It was complicated.

Yeah, complicated was definitely the right word to describe everything in her life. Definitely.

She sniffed as she shoved her hands into her pockets roughly. She was bored. Like, really bored.

With her heartbeat gradually decreasing back to a reasonable pace, Kooh's shoulders fell when Bahr strode past her and wedged his blade between the next iron door standing in front of them. She glowered at his back, lips pursing while she shoved her hands back into her pockets with his comment. As if she wanted to be friendly with this guy.

"Kooh." She begrudgingly replied anyway, regrettably ignoring his earlier jab when she couldn't think of anything to quip in return. Instead she peered briefly over his shoulder, confirming that she couldn't see any movement or more than blank walls on the other side. She tried to shake it off, but how certain she was that the sound came from inside that small cell was unnerving to say the least.

She turned and took a few steps towards the rightmost staircase and cast a glance at the redhead right as she defeatedly launched a pebble across the stonework with the toe of her shoe. Kirbs, he called her. She cocked an eyebrow and continued up the steps. She frowned to herself, debating whether or not to open her mouth again for a long while before she finally spoke up again at the top of the climb. "What are you guys doing here, anyway? Just that bored? You don't seem like the," she stole a glance over her shoulder to see the exhaustion and almost melancholy in their faces once again, "do-good adventurer types."

"Name's Bahr. And no, I'm not," he gibed striding past Kooh and up the stairs. "If you've heard of the dude they call Bloodedge, that'd be me." He delivered that last bit in a bit of a grumble, crimson and verdant orbs shifting over to Kirbs, who was just kicking some rocks around. "Do you want to find this damn thing or what?" he chided loudly, gritting his teeth and jeering at her. Well, in her general direction. It was getting a little hard to focus at this point.

At the apex of the staircase rested another iron door, already slightly dislodged from the dilapidated wall, just enough to peek through. As he did, he was met with an eye staring right back at him. The two stared at one another absently for a moment. When Bahr blinked, the eye blinked. When he shifted his head, so too did the eye shift. Confused, Bahr furrowed his eyebrows, finding that the eye mimicked that motion as well. Without another word, he jammed his sword into the slit, and a cacophony of shatters could be heard ringing from the other side.

He wrenched the sword back and pried the door open to discover that it had been none other than a mirror that he had been looking at. An entire room of antique mirrors, actually. When he had struck the first, it had tumbled over, striking the next mirror, which struck the next, toppling over every single mirror in the room in a cartoonish domino-esque fashion. "Uh... nothing over here. You guys find anything interesting yet?"

Kirbs kicked the wall pointlessly.

"Oh wait, I think I found it. It's all the way over here!" She exclaimed, backing away from the crumbling wall as she sighed out in relief. Great, the sooner they got this whole thing done, the better.

"Alright, let's go!" She said chirpily, jumping right into the lair.

Did she feel stupid? Yes, yes she dead, but you only live once so to hell with it! God, she felt very alive. Pretty sure that was a bad thing, but to hell with it!

Scarfy sniffed as he slid down Kirbs' shoulders anxiously. Yeah, he probably thought she was going crazy. She sighed and ran a hand through her hair.

Somehow, she felt like this would be the last quest she would ever do, but that was utterly ridiculous. She still had so many more to do, and she was going to finish all of them!

Lair Found!

Having turned her back and settled on leaning against the long iron railing that circled around the second floor of the foyer, Kooh simply winced at the crashing sounds that echoed from the room across the hall. She spotted the bit of wall that Kirbs kicked at just in time for the stone to crack and tumble in on itself in response. She cocked an eyebrow, but pushed off the rail and jogged down the stairs back to the first floor in silence.

The wall had collapsed and the dust had settled, but the haunted prison was far from abandoned. Rather than the wailing and ear-piercing shrieks they'd been subjected to thus far, a low groaning bounced off of the dark walls. Rubble shifted at the base of the tunnel immediately before a rotting hand shot out from the darkness to grope at the air around Kirbs. Coming into the dim light, a single Zombie emerged from the passage to bite at the girl.

Likewise, another door creaked open on the second floor, the rusty iron announcing another creature's presence as it shuffled clumsily towards Bahr. Finally, at the base of the staircase, another musty hand clamped onto Kooh's just before it had slid down the length of the rail. She jumped, startled by the sudden contact, wrenching her hand away to face the third decaying face staring blankly back at her. "Ugh, gross!" She scoffed, giving her hand a small shake in the air as if to rid herself of its touch. Kooh pushed her left foot back, shifting her weight before pivoting her hips and pulling her leg back around in a roundhouse kick. The metal greaves covering her shin made contact with the Zombie's ribcage, sounding a 'crack' as it stumbled back from the blow.

Suddenly, ghastly forms burst out from every angle, their decaying faces gnawing their way through the stiff air as they approached the party. Despite how slow they were, things started happening really fact. Kirbs was instantly struck by one of the monsters and lost about a quarter of her health, while Kooh narrowly avoided the same fate. Bahr, on the other hand, had a little bit of time to maneuver out of the way of the zombie that had set its sights on him and begin luring it to the lower level by where Kirbs and Kooh were.

"If you can hold them off for a few seconds, I've got a plan!" he called out to the pair as he slowly guided the dumb mob down the staircase. As he neared the rest of the party and their respective zomboys, his sword began to illuminate with a greenish hue that cast itself against any surface within a close enough vicinity. Once the timing seemed right, he ripped the blade forward in a wide arc that just barely managed to clip all of the zombies in one swing. Miraculously, they all burst into clouds of blue polygonal fractals shortly thereafter, much to Bahr's surprise.

"Oh. That was... easier than expected."

"Alright," she murmured just as an ear piercing scream echoed through the stale air.

"Jesus!" She yelped, jumping backwards as the sudden mob appeared in front of her with another three undead zombies. Wow, she literally looked like death. Maybe she was dead! She probably is dead! Banshees were like, paranormal ghost things, right? Gasp. Was she... a Ghostbuster? Oh God, this had been her life long dream for all of her life. Hell yeah! She's been looking for this day for seventeen years. Seventeen years! That's six thousand two hundred and five days!

Kirbs gritted her teeth as her spear hit nothing. "That's big stupid," she murmured, jumping back from the banshee with a scowl. "Heck, that thing is really agile," she said, furrowing her brows. She'd never expect this ghost lady or whatever to be this quick when it comes to fighting. Like, it was kind of literally a ghost!

She took a few steps back as Bahr charged down the staircase, making quick work of the first three zombies that had risen from the surrounding rubble. The trio had hardly any time to breathe, let alone explore the cavern they'd just discovered. More creatures animated from the wreckage in the prison, dragging themselves through the tunnel that led straight to the banshee herself.

The wailing ghostly woman shot forward before they'd even made their move, gliding into the large entryway and avoiding Kirbs' jab of her spear with ease. Kooh glanced around, spotting the three new undead monsters coming for them again. She eyed Bahr's hefty sword and made a quick decision. He would tear through the groups of zombies much faster than she ever could, she thought. She followed suit with the redhead and got a running start towards the Banshee's floating form. The greaves over her shins glowed with the activation of her sword art, and she spun to deliver two kicks in quick succession. For a moment she was afraid her limbs would slide right through her target, but the Banshee recoiled with a hiss as she made contact. Kooh widened her stance, standing her ground. The Banshee turned her back to the other two players, enraged at the one who had landed the first blow. Her head reeled back and she let out another scream, this one filled with rage. Kooh winced, having to bring her hands up to clamp down over her ears and cursing aloud.

@Bahr @Kirbs

Seemed the other two had run off toward the Banshee. Good. Give them what for, he thought to himself in his best mental conjuring of an old man voice. He could handle the putrid sacks of decayed flesh matter within seconds and catch up to the rest of the group. Provided the stench didn't force him to keel over where he stood, that is.

A glow of the blade, a flick of the wrist, and the trio of ghoulish grousers were rendered into triangular azure confetti right before his eyes. He even managed to hold down his lunch.

By the time he caught up to the others, he noticed that the Banshee's health bar had been depleted by a marginal degree. It wasn't much, but it was better than nothing surely. But just as his eyes met with those of the hovering monster, it vanished.

Behind them. Back in front. No, now it was above.

Ridiculous agility. Bahr couldn't tell if it was teleporting or simply moving with enough speed to outspeed the refresh rate of his eyeballs. By the time it had stopped in front of of Kooh and sibilated a shriek with a decibel level strong enough to thrust her into the nearby wall, Bahr wasn't sure any of them were tracking it properly.

"Oh, crap!" he boomed as he dashed forward, placing himself between the injured woman and the apparition that had accosted her. Glancing back over his shoulder, he noticed that her HP had fallen into the yellow after only a single hit. Not good. Back in front, it didn't seem that throwing himself in front of the monster had really done them any good. The creature simply *looked through him*, focus still clinging to Kooh. Bahr offered a wary glance and a slight nod to Kirbs. They needed to kill this thing now.

Kirbs' eyes widened as Kooh was thrown into the wall... by sound. She huffed as she ran over to where Bahr and Kooh were. Jesus, that attack did a lot to her health.

"Are you okay?" Well of course, she wasn't okay, duh. She's a hit away from dying by this thing. She caught Bahr's nod and sniffed. "Okay," she muttered, spinning around to face the screaming lady.

Oh ho-ho-ho. She was not going to let anyone die from this ghost lady..! But come on, like seriously? Wouldn't dying to a ghost that fights by screaming kind of suck?

She charged up Dimension Stampeded and rushed after the Banshee-- which thankfully caught it's attention. She darted past it, hoping to God that she at least able to avert its attention on Bahr and Kooh.

Which it did. Praise the lord for that one.

The redhead unleashed her sword art on the mob, which somehow hit it-? She wasn't sure how logic worked in this game... but it was working!

Kooh staggered, backing up into the large, piled pieces of a rusty wrought-iron cage door, stumbling again and nearly tripping to the ground. Her hand flew out in time to catch herself, and she simply stood there, hunched over a pile of rubble with one hand gripping onto a bar and the other still clutching her spinning head. She could barely hear Kirbs' voice through the ringing, and after another few seconds she shook her head in frustration at her blurred vision while she let out a few more curses.

Things were starting to clear up, finally. She could stand without the dizzying sensation shifting her sense of balance. She could see Kirbs' spear sink into the Banshee's ghostly form and watch it recoil. Kooh's eyes darted up to the row of health bars tucked neatly into the corner of her vision. "Christ..." That attack wasn't just disorienting as hell, it also hurt way more than she'd expected. Back in the fray, the ghastly woman no longer had eyes for her. 'If I try anything now, I'll just get knocked on my ass again.' She thought, gnawing on her lip in frustration. She looked around. No sign of any more undead crawling through the floorboards.

She hung back. She had to. Keeping up her guard, Kooh watched and waited.
