Since his recent revelation that Alec was working under the Mighty Macradon's wing, Bahr felt compelled to invite his battle buddy so to some good ol' fashioned hunting with him. The materials would definitely help with his crafting. He hastily opened up his messages panel and shot one over to Alec. Quote To: @Alec Get to the eleventh floor when you have the chance. I'll be waiting. - Bahr He hit send and waited on a nearby rock for his compatriot to arrive. His last visit to the garden had been filled with depression, rage, and a newfound desire to slaughter Kayaba in hopefully the most public way possible. But all of that was a long way off. For now, he could blow off some steam killing monsters with a new friend. Depending on their parameters, it was possible these mobs could be tough, but Bahr was used to hunting alone. So Bahr wanted to go hunting all right he was game for a hunting expedition. The large man said in his deep baritone rumble as he waved to his familiar as he headed for the door. Upon entering the 11th Floor Alec pulled up his map and found the blip that showed where Bahr was. As Alec walked up he spotted the other man leaning against a tree looking out over a field full of mobs. Alec let out a long low whistle as he finished chomping down the last bit of his Perfect Beef Bourguignon washing it down with an Immolation Potion +1. "You weren't kidding pal." "Isn't it amazing?" he exclaimed as he looked out over the field of mobs. He unsheathed his weapon and pointed to a pack of boars that was close to them. "I'm thinking we start with them. They look like pretty easy targets, and I sorta have a thing against boars anyways." He picked up a small rock and tossed it into the group, grabbing the attention of four boars and luring them away from the rest of the herd. "It's showtime." He walked forward slowly as the group of boars approached, each of them huffing anxiously while stamping their hooves against the ground and dragging them back as though getting ready to charge. Bahr grinned as he lit up his blade, the lot of them all attacking simultaneously and each meeting the tip of his blade. This staggered all of them and sent their health plummeting to the near half point, one in particular getting the worst of it as its health bar entered the yellow. "You're up." Alec 0 Posted August 1, 2019 #4 Report Share Posted August 1, 2019 Alec watched the other man casually toss a rock to get a group of 4 Boars attention before sauntering over with a cocky attitude to boot before activating a Sword Art and unleashing hell upon the pack of Boars dropping their health significantly. Alec let out a long low whistle of appreciation at the easy with which the other man had designated the Boars health bars. "Nicely done Sir." The larger man exclaimed with a mock tip of his non existent hat. "Check this trick out though." The large heavily muscled man said as he raised his shield before himself and stepped forward as he activated his new Howl ability. "HEY PIGS!! OVER HERE!!" Alec bellowed at the Boars causing them all to simultaneously turn their entire attention to the large Tank and begin charging him. One of the Boars managed to fire the large man and escape before Alec could strike it back but as the other three charged Alec swept his razor sharp saw bladed shield around slicing into the Boars as his Immolation Potion exploded from him in a fiery burst that singed the Boars as well. Alec shot a grin and a wink of the eye to the other man as his Battle Healing kicked in and instantly healed what little damage he taken from the Boars. "Someone else learned a new trip too." We keep fighting like that and we'll have this whole field cleared in no time!" As the boars reeled in agony Bahr stepped forward to close the gap between himself and the mobs. He charged up his sword again and unleashed yet another vicious swing, his blade catching the snout of each and every boar. They all burst into clouds of blue pixels simultaneously, and a loot panel populated in front of Bahr. "Holy crap," he remarked, pushing the menu toward Alec so he could get a look. "Think we'll be rich by the time we're done. I've never had a loot panel populate that had such a long list." Bahr was pretty proud of their earnings so far, and knew that this was just the beginning. They had a whole horde to clear before they were done. "Ha ha!! Nicely done!" The larger man said enthusiastically to his companion. "I'm thinking you and I make a pretty good pair!" Alec said with a smile and a nod. "You ready for the next batch or do you need a break? I barely used any energy on that fight so I'm good to go unless you need a recharge." He said as he looked over to his companion. "You know come to think about it I've never even been to this floor before. But I had heard there were some prime Gathering and spawning points and it seems you managed to stumble on to a really nice one!" The larger man exclaimed as his eyes drifted over the large herd of Boars milling about before them with a satisfied smile lightening his normally stern features and perpetual scowl. Alec's grin widened as he reached down and plucked a brightly colored flower from the ground next to them and held it out to the other man. "That'll make a fine piece of armor," he mused, bending over to pick up a pair of flowers himself. He gave them a quick whiff before stashing thema way in his inventory. "This is far easier than running around solo. I guess I didn't know what I was missing out on. We'll have to come around here from time to time and see what we can dig up." He looked over to the herd of boars that were milling about, some grazing, others sparring with one another. It was a convincing ecosystem for one generated by a procedural algorithm. Bahr had to give credit where credit was due; Kayaba knew how to make everything feel real. Even if the quests were sometimes unbalanced and tedious, the immersion of the game was top-notch. The sun was warm and shinning. There was a soft breeze blowing gently through the meadow. All in all it felt like a rather perfect day to the large man as he walked around his perpetual scowl softened by the weather. "I've got to say this is a really nice floor." The large man offered. "It's like the perfect day." He announced as he took a deep breath and exhaled the fresh scents of their surroundings. "So if you don't mind my asking where are you from?" Alec asked by way of idle chit chat and trying to learn a little more about his new companion. Alec felt a kinship to the other man and was curious to know more about him. Alec looked somewhat Norwegian in composition; perhaps he was from the Midwest as well. The area that Bahr was from in particular was filled to the brim with Norwegians and others of Scandinavian descent. Was it possible they lived close to one another in the real world? Not likely. "So ready for round two?" The large man asked with a grin as he stepped forward focusing on the next nearest batch of four Boars and quickly activated his Howl ability again grabbing there attention and forcing them to charge the the large muscular Tank. "HEY BACON BREATH!! COME GET SOME!!" The large man bellowed in his deep baritone rumble pulling the next four Boars straight to him as he raised his shield Mirror's Embrace up in front of himself and set his feet to receive their charge a wide grin upon his face and a twinkle in the large man's eyes. As the Boars neared the ready Tank he called out to his companion. "Give 'em hell Bahr!" The small pack squealed and ran about wildly in a panicked frenzy before all at once stopping and turning back to the pair, a menacing red glint in their eye. Bahr laughed as they all inexplicably ran toward Alec, considering they had just gotten their hides handed to them by Bahr. What made it all the more comical was that they were virtually completely ineffectual against the large man, headed straight into his trap and taking over fifty times the damage back just for being foolish enough to approach them. It truly was the perfect joint hunting tactic. "I'd feel a little bad if it weren't so utterly satisfying." As the energy leaked Alec dashed forward toward the Boars. As Alec took his first step his ankle turned as he began to stumble and flail fighting to keep his balance as he swung out at the second Boar slamming his axe into the Boar. As the large stepped to swing again his knee buckled as he began to totter again as he lashed out at the fourth Boar connecting solidly before finally ending flat on his back looking up at the four Boars standing over him staring down at his prone form. The large man shot a sheepish grin to his companion as he shrugged from the ground. "I'm not the most graceful some times." The large man stated in his deep baritone rumble from his spot in the ground looking at the sky. "Get that one looks like bunny." Bahr peered up into the sky and scanned for the cloud he was talking about. Sure enough, a floofy rabbit-shaped cloud stood out among the rest. "Hey, I can see it too!" He pointed to the same spot in the sky that Alec had, unable to hold back his laughter. When he looked back to the man, the boars were still going at him but unable to inflict so much as a scratch. Their plight was hopeless. With a sigh, he meandered casually over to the group of mobs and charged up his blade, carving into all of them into blue confetti without so much as a hint of resistance. He offered his hand to help Alec off of the ground while examining the loot panel that populated. "I'm pretty sure that one was even better than the last! I'm going to be able to afford so many house upgrades once we're done here..." "So the trick if a Tank sometimes." The large man began in his deep baritone rumble. "Is to keep the enemy focused on you and sometimes the easiest way to do that is to flail around and fall down seeming helpless." The large man offered as a weak excuse for an excuse knowing full well the other man wouldn't buy that load of bull he had just tried to sell. "As for earlier I'm from a small town in middle America. Semi rural and semi suburban." The large man explained as he cast another glance around the field they were standing in. "Sounds like you went to a lot of work to get yourself in here." Alec stated casting his eyes around. Alec walked over and bent down snatching a shiny pebble from the ground and a strange colored mushroom which he held up with a smile. "My son Danny wanted this game and a found a promo code to buy one if the copies when it fell out of a garbage can I was dumping on my route. It was sheer dumb luck honestly." Well, I guess that's one way to put it," Bahr grumbled as he looked around for any available materials, not having any luck. With a shake of the head, he looked back to Alec, "Got a young boy, huh? How old is he?" He waited for Alec's response before starting to talk again. "I honestly can't imagine what you're going through with all of this. It can't be easy being in here while your son is out there." It wasn't that Bahr wanted to upset the man. It was just that sometimes he couldn't filter himself before saying something stupid. Here they were enjoying a nice day with a warm sun and a cool breeze, hunting easy mobs and scoring absolute loads of loot. But Bahr and his big mouth had to throw a big monkey wrench right into the middle of it. He examined the man's facial features, trying to read his expression. He read about it online and got do excited and when I was able to give it to him you should have seen the look in his man." Alec said as his gaze drifted off and a wistful look came over his face. "You know who hard it was to get a copy stateside. I mean look at all you went through to get one." The large man said as his vision cleared and he looked back to his companion. "How old? Well Danny's 16 now. He was 14 when the game started. That's why I'm stuck here instead of him. Over protective parent." The large man says as he points both his thumbs at himself. "I told him one day wouldn't kill him and there was no way I was letting him run around a virtual world with how many strangers." Alec a stopped and made a placating gesture to his companion. "No offense. Before I had a chance to see what it was all about first. So you all get me instead of my boy. And I'd have it no other way." The large man finished fiercely. "But hey we all make the best of it don't we?" It was true that it was better to have Alec here as opposed to his son. As much as it probably pained him to be stuck in this game with his son on the outside, it probably would have been infinitely more painful to be stuck on the inside while his son was stuck in the game. Not knowing if he would ever wake up, not knowing what levels of hell his son was being put through. He was in the real world and could still go to school, explore dating, and a myriad of other things young men his age were supposed to do. But then, that flipped the tables a bit. Bahr was certain his son was always worried for his father for the same reasons. Bahr held up his hand and shook his head as Alec remarked, 'No offense,' as though to say. 'None taken.' But it was true. They made the best of their situation here in the virtual world. It wasn't perfect, it wasn't even always good, but everyone just took it day by day. It was amazing, the human capacity for adaptation. Bahr had managed to build a whole like for himself on the inside, with a full-fledged shop, regular party of warriors, business acquaintances, and various connections. The more he learned about this world and the people here, the more he could see how easily intermixed it all was. Bahr's eyes glimmered with inspiration as he looked at the agate rock Alec had picked up, his eyes darting around and falling on two other such similar stones. He picked them up and gave the older man a nod and a grin before stashing them in his inventory. "For what it's worth, Alec, I'm glad we got you. Not that I wouldn't have liked to meet Danny, but it's for the best if he's out there living life like a teenager should instead of getting wrapped up in this mess," he said as he walked over to the man and gripped his shoulder reassuringly. "You protected your boy, you did good. You're right when you say we make the best of what we have here, and having people like you around makes that a lot easier. Thank you." Never having really been one of those to get emotional and gooshy with others he awkwardly cleared his throat. "Yeah. Well for my sanity I agree with you." The larger man offered with a rough chuckle. "But I guarantee you my kid was such a wiz at video games, that if he were in here instead of me he'd have been running with the Front Liners from day one not playing catch up years later like I am now. I've only really been at this the lady couple of months." The large man offered with another slight blush of embarrassment as he looked around the field. "It took me....a little longer than most to figure all this stuff out." The large man offered as he scanned the field and came up empty handed. What he was saying was probably true - they may have missed out on a leading warrior by not having Danny here. Still, it was for the best. As few kids as possible in the world seemed to be for the better. Bahr already knew of far too many, the kids in the orphanage on the first floor coming to mind right away. And then there were the likes of Kirbs, who were around Danny's age. Man, if Alec ever met Kirbs, he would go dad mode for sure. Bahr released Alec's shoulder and gave it a reassuring pat. "You've got it more figured out now than you did before. That's what counts, right?" he said as he scooped up a rock and tossed it toward another pack of boars, luring them in as he unsheathed his blade. Just as he had the times before, he swung it at the flock, managing to carve through three before his foot slipped out from under him and caused him to fall on his rump, missing the fourth. "Ah crap, now that one's gonna take an extra hit..." Alec 0 Posted August 2, 2019 #20 Report Share Posted August 2, 2019 Alec watched as Bahr stepped forward and tossed another rock to grab another batch of four Boars attention before pulling out his massive two handed sword and stepping forward to swing for the Boars before stumbling and falling in the last Boar. Not on my watch thought Alec as he gave a mighty leap pulling the perfect super hero landing right in front of his companion and quickly activating his Howl ability pulling all the Boars attention instantly to himself instead for his fallen comrade. "I got ya pal." Alec said as he landing. "Here piggy piggy piggies. Ssoooo wwweeeee!" The large man called out at the Boars and held his shield as they charged in. As the Boars charged the large he stepped forward swing his razor sharp shield at the Boars.
