[F1-SP] <<The Second Lesson, Is Also Free>> Attempting this One More Time

Recommended Posts

Symphony left Lyle Tealeaf's blacksmith shop. She had been given instructions to find 3 boar pup tusks as materials for the blacksmith's projects. The tusks could be turned into firm, shiny handles and guards on Lyle's weapons.

Cloak, Symphony's raven familiar, came fluttering down and landed on her shoulder as Symphony stepped out onto the pathway that wound its way through the center of town. "Hello, there," she said to Cloak while petting his head. He crowed happily and nuzzled her cheek with his own. She smiled and petted him before he flew off above her, still keeping with her brisk walking pace.

Symphony looked forward and headed towards the gate heading out of town. Once outside of the safe zone, she made her way towards a clearing deep in the woods where she knew boar pups and their mums gathered regularly. It was a lovely spawn point with plenty of coverage provided by the thick brush around the clearing.

As Symphony approached the clearing, she crouched down low in order to be able to watch her prey's actions without being noticed. She saw 5 boar pups alone in the clearing in front of her. Their mother must have been off finding foot in order to nurse the rowdy pups.

Symphony held her hand in a fist as a signal for Cloak to stay quiet as she snuck forward to attack the first boar pup. Cloak stayed absolutely still as he watched his partner rush out and slash at the first boar pup. The poor thing didn't even have time to face Symphony before he was slashed in half. The animal burst into pixels as its HP suddenly rushed down to 0. One hit kill.

Meanwhile, the other boars had enough time to turn around and face the stranger in front of them. 3 of the boar pups were able to land quick hits on Symphony while only one cowered behind its brothers. The hits didn't feel like anything against Symphony's set of armor.

She took an attack stance and braced herself. Cloak flew out of the trees as she launched forward, which startled poor Symphony and caused her to miss. She cursed under her breath as she picked herself up. She had ended up missing and stumbling to the side.

As soon as she was back on her feet, 3 of the boar pups attacked her once more, still doing barely any damage at all. The only way that Symphony could tell she had taken any damage was by looking at the health bar at the side of her display. She could see just a tiny smidget of her health bar that was empty. The rest of the bar remained green.

Up above his partner, Cloak soared and gazed down. He was looking for an opening to attack and distract one of the boars. He wished to help his partner as much as he could, and he felt a little bad for scaring and messing up her attack.

Suddenly, Cloak saw an opening to distract one of the boar pups. He swooped down and pecked the little boar's tail, making it squeal and turn around in anger and frustration. The tiny beast charged at the mischievous bird, but Cloak was too quick and easily dodged the attack. Cloak cawed softly to himself, sounding as if he was laughing at the foolish beast.

Meanwhile, Symphony saw her chance and lashed out at the second boar pup as it charged her. It hit the tip of her boot with a tiny headbutt before she was able to slash it into pixels. She looked up at her health bar and watched, bored, as it ticked down one health point. She sighed but was soon thrown off her feet as an annoyed boar pup charged her from behind.

Picking herself up, she laughed at the effort of the little animal. "At least you have spirit," she said to herself.

As that same pig used the rest of its fiery spirit to charge at her, she held her blade and braced herself. At the last second, she sliced the head of the boar pup clean off and watched as the rest of its body disintegrated into pixels. She turned around and was quickly hit in the shin by another little piglet. Again, it did nothing but tick a point off of her health.

In the sky above her, Cloak charged down in a quick dive and lifted the other little boar pup up in the air, dropping it a short distance to the ground. The indignant pig began to oink some boar curses as Cloak did happy circles in the air. "Good one, Cloak!" Symphony called up to her familiar, glad that he was having fun.

Looking back down at the ground, Symphony's smile turned into a slight frown. The boar pup hadn't dropped a tusk, and she was growing impatient.

One of the boar pups jumped into action as soon as they saw that Symphony's attention was elsewhere for only a split second. The little beast charged and nicked her arm, knocking her slightly off balance. Symphony immediately jumped into a battle stance and was prepared when the second attack hit. She blocked the small tusks with her dagger and then stabbed into the chest of the other boar pup. Its body burst into pixels. Alas, still no more boar pup tusks. She cursed under her breath and watched as the final boar pup paced around uncertainly. Final one, she thought to herself. I hope this one at least drops something useful.

Above the woman, her companion soared, watching his partner fight. He decided to relax and just keep a watch from a distance. She seemed like she could handle herself for now. He relaxed his wings and just soared above the scuffle below.

Symphony made the first move this time. Bracing herself, she charged towards the boar pup. It started to run, but she quickly overtook it and sliced it in half. The pixels burst apart, and she sheathed her blade. Turning around, she was disappointed to find that, once again, there were no boar pup tusks to be found. She sighed and thought about what to do next. She had a bit of time before the next group of boar pups spawned in this area, so she decided to find a lake and do some fishing while she waited.

She looked up and whistled at Cloak, signalling him to look for a large body of water. After a few minutes of circling out farther and farther, Cloak let out a caw about a half mile North of the clearing.

Symphony made her way over to the shore of a rather large lake. She set up a blanket for cloak to rest on beside her as she took out her fishing pole and cast a line.

Symphony cast her line and chewed on a piece of gum while waiting for something to bite. Meanwhile, Cloak settled down beside her on the soft blanket, fluffing up and getting ready to nap. But his nap would soon be interrupted as a half man/half fish monster leaped out of the lake and struck out at Symphony. Luckily, she managed to dodge the slow-moving beast just in time.

Cloak took flight up into the nearest tree and watched his partner battle the beast. He was quite startled, but knew his partner could handle this fight on her own if needed. He would lend a wing or two if needed whenever she signaled for him.

The beast had the legs of a man and the upper torso, fins, and head of a fish. It was truly an ugly creature. It stood about 6 feet tall with razor sharp scales all over its body and fins. Symphony would have to be careful while attacking in order not to cut herself against the scales.

Before the beast could attack her again, Symphony charged her blade. It glowed a deep, purplish-blue hue. The monster fish stared in stupidity as Symphony began to dash around it, moving at odd angles so that the beast would not be able to track her movements so well. As she dashed around, she slashed out four times, hitting the monster fish in the left body, right fin, back of its thick head, and on the back of its leg.

When her move had finished, she stopped and braced herself against a tree a good distance away from the monster. The odd thing let out a gasping cry and fell to the ground. Paralyzed. Symphony smiled to herself, and Cloak gave a supportive caw. She looked up at her familiar. "Don't get too excited yet," she said. "This fight isn't even halfway over yet." As she spoke, the paralysis affect on her blade began to wear off ever so slowly. The beast was now able to move its toes.

Symphony thought she could get a good jab or two in before the effect wore off completely. However, she miscalculated. As soon as she had begun to use her sword art again, the beast got up and sprang too, invigorated with pain and anger. Right as she took her last swing, the beast lashed out at her with its razor sharp fins. Symphony tried to dodge the attack by ducking, but she ended up just lowering herself into a blow by accident. A deep gash opened up on her cheek about 3 inches long. She brought her hand up to her face and looked down to see blood on her hand.

Now that she was hurt, her anger only grew, and she let her emotions flow into her blade. "Why you nasty stinking fish!" she cried while racing towards the beast. Cloak braced himself, staring, waiting to jump in if his partner needed him. She was mad now.

The monster fish was also angry at being injured, and now he was getting closer to death. He charged at Symphony, and she charged right back. They met in the middle and parried for a few blows until the monster fish decided to go in with his mouth and bite the woman. She tried to block the attack by bringing up her left arm, but the jaws just closed and latched onto her armor, the razor sharp teeth digging into her skin. Symphony screamed more in anger than in pain, ripping her arm out of the beast's mouth. Her eyes burned with a fire. She may do less damage than the monster, but she had more health and spirit.

As the monster was pushed back by her taking her arm away, she saw her opportunity. She charged up her blade quickly and went in for 4 good strikes to the beast's stomach area. The cuts were deep, and the monster backed away as it clutched its stomach and winced. Meanwhile, Symphony backed up as well and checked her wounds.

The armor on her left forearm had been torn away, and prevalent bite marks showed on her skin that were bleeding. However, her self-healing armor began to grow back and heal her for a few points of health.

Symphony brought her dagger up and charged up her sword art. With a swift flick of her wrist, she launched into her sword art, slashing through the tough scales of the fish and even managing to slice some of them off. In a sudden boost of speed, the monster fish returned the assault and slashed against Symphony's chest as she was leaping back to try and dodge the attack. She covered her body with her right arm instinctively and defensively and backed away to come up with another plan of attack. She whistled to signal to Cloak that she needed his help. The black raven to the air and began to circle above the enemy, looking for an opening and a way to distract the offender.

The monster fish looked up and made a mad glurgle. Naturally, the monster fish hated the raven just like the salmon in the river hate the eagles stalking from above.

The monster fish began to make more noise at the bird, obviously aggravated by its presence. Cloak took his chance and made a few diving sweeps at the beast, making it focus its attention on the pesky bird. This was her chance. Readying up her blade, Symphony sprinted towards the monster, slashing across its back in two large X's. She quickly leaped away so that the monster fish could not strike back at her. She had learned her lesson the last time. In pain and annoyed, the beast twitched and made a horrible gurgling and choking noise. Cloak shivered. The sound was eerie and haunting. It was the sound something makes when it's close to death. Symphony's eyes gleamed as she saw the low health of the beast. She was ready for the kill. She whistled to Cloak to work with her on the final assault. He cawed in affirmation.

With a shrill whistle, Symphony signaled for the attack. But the monster fish had been given too much time to recover. It dodged and tried to parry, but its attack was too slow once more. Cursing under her breath, Symphony leaped back and regrouped with Cloak. She motioned for her familiar to quietly soar in the shadows of the forest and get some cover behind the enemy. Meanwhile, Symphony began to tilt her blade, catching the sun and flashing the reflection in the fish's sensitive eyes. It used its fins to try to cover its face. Now she had its attention focused on her. Cloak would be free to take position without being noticed. Hopefully he could get to his post without breaking any branches or alerting any animals in the trees. Any warning calls from other birds would give away their plan of attack. The monster fish began to charge towards Symphony.

Waiting for the right moment, Symphony crouched down, waiting for the enemy to make the first move. After a few moments, the fish monster began a charge. She charged right back and made a shrill whistle to Cloak, who plunged down and clawed at the head of the beast. Crying in pain, the beast tried to protect its face and eyes from the sharp talons. This opened it up completely. Rushing forward, Symphony plunged her blade into the thing's chest and twisted it. An explosion of pixels. The monster was finally dead. With a long, deep sigh, Symphony stretched and whistled to Cloak that it was time to go. She packed up, whistling a fun little toon, and headed back to the clearing where they had been before. An hour had passed. The boar pups would have spawned again by now. Cloak took the lead in the air, making sure that no enemies were up ahead planning to ambush the pair.

  • 1 month later...

Symphony packed up all the supplies she had laid out before beginning to fish. Once sure that she hadn't left anything behind, she led the way back towards the clearing where the pair had battled before. Cloak did flips in the air and other cool tricks on the way to their destination. Symphony laughed and threw treats up to Cloak. Each time, he caught them in the air perfectly.

As they approached the clearing, Symphony saw five more little boar pups running around in the clearing. Two of the five seemed to be munching grass and bugs happily at the far edge of the field to the left. The other three were fighting each other as they tried to chase a butterfly. It was quite an amusing sight, and if it were a different occasion, Symphony would have loved to watch the three play. However, she needed those tusks badly, and she didn't feel like waiting any longer to get them.

Symphony quickly hid behind a tree further blocked from sight by bushes. Cloak quietly perched on a branch to her upper left.

With a shrill whistle as a signal to her partner, Symphony leaped out of the bushes and raced toward the boar closed to her. She launched forward but was just a little too slow. The boar pup dodged away and called to its friends. The three boar pups that had been chasing the butterfly and bickering with each other raced over. The fourth and fifth boar pups charged and bounced off of Symphony's shin armor easily. She looked at her upper display as the game subtracted just two points of health.

She frowned as she remembered that her attack had missed and braced herself once more. She needed to make these next strikes count as she was growing tired of this quest. She should have been able to finish it hours ago, but her lack of luck had nearly tripled the amount of time it should have taken. She took in a deep breath as she prepared to attack again.

She closed her eyes and tried to sense the movements of the beasts around her. Her left ear twitched as she heard the familiar steps of the first boar pup she attacked. Leaping up agilely and leaping over the other 4 boar pups, she landed next to first boar pup (which had been at the edge of the herd again) and sliced at it. However, the boar pup was once again too quick and nimbly jumped out of the way. Symphony's dagger sliced the air in front of it. Darn it, she cursed in her head.

From behind her, she heard three of the boar pups charging at her. She sighed and just let them bounce off her armor, her ears twisting back as she heard the counter on her display take off 3 health points. This was becoming a very annoying, tedious quest, and Symphony was getting close to losing it. With a twist of her hair, she began to aimlessly charge at the boar pups around her.

With one lucky, random, anger-fueled blow, she managed to slice clean through the first boar pup. Pixels exploded in front of her as the boar pups HP feel to 0. Her angry frown turned to a determined grin as she looked down at the ground. Nothing. No loot whatsoever. As she gazed forlornly down at the ground, two of the boar pups charged her, noticing she was distracted. They each dealt only a point of damage each, and they both bounced off her light leather armor.

Cloak cawed with encouragement above her. She sighed and brought her dagger up in front of her, ready to strike out once more. She focused and began to listen once more. Now she heard four sets of hooves. It was a little easier to focus on a specific boar pup. She heard one of them begin to charge her from behind. She waited just for the right moment to leap up and turn the tables.

However, she leaped a bit too far and landed into a hit from one of the other boar pups. She rubbed her back where the boar hit and turned around to see the boar pup that she had originally aimed for running back across the clearing. "Awe, come on," she mumbled under her breath. "This hecking sucks." She tosses her dagger in the air and catches it. She does this several times as she waits for one of the other boar pups to charge her.

She whistles to try and make them angrier or to get their attention. "Come on, piggy, piggies!" she yells at them. One of the boar pups steps up and snorts, stomping the ground with a hoof. It prepared itself to charge. She did a few tricks with the dagger in her hand as she waited for the pup to come closer. "Come on little pig."
