This quest takes place on Floor 7.
This quest is not repeatable after completion.

Quest Background:
At noon, a while after completing the previous quest, you receive a PM from Ali. The message is simple: a request for you to meet him at dusk at the 'Drunken Crane' Tavern on the 7th floor, annexed with the coordinates for the place. When you reached the designated spot, you find Ali at the bar where he invites you for a drink. "Have you heard?" he asked while making sure that your conversation isn't being eavesdropped on. "They say that those bandits have tamed a legendary being, some strange mixture of a lion with the wings of a dragon, and the tail or a scorpion. They captured it from the other side of Nimbus, high up the mountain." he says with a disbelieving tone. "Can you check it out for me? Maybe slay it if you can and bring back some proof? You did a great job with those bandits I doubt you'll have a hard time with a little beast like that." he adds with a laugh that seemed like a bad omen. The coordinates for an general area where a thieves hideout, where they might be keeping the beast, are sent to you. Again, a quest confirmation window shortly follows, appearing in his immediate vicinity, will you accept it?

Route options:

  1. (Liar route) - Find the Manticore's location, kill the beast, get the loot from it and then tell Ali you didn't find it/bring no proof of its existence.
  2. (Honest route) - Find the Manticore's location, kill the beast, get its loot then return the item drop to Ali.
  3. (Scout route) - Find the Manticore's location, observe it then turn back and simply inform Ali of your discovery, without bringing back any proof of its existence.
  • The thread creator chooses the route in his initial post, the rest of the participants agree with his decission by replying to the thread.
  • Regardless of the chosen route, players still need to kill/bypass all thieves.
  • At the end of the thread before locking, a staff member will roll and post the roll ID. This roll will be used in the later parts of this quest series.

Prerequisites:

  1. All of the thread participants must have completed the previous quest of this series: First Night - "It all began with a couple of words" (Any route)
  • Players need to link it in their first post along with posting their stats, skills(+mods), equipped items and battle ready inventory.

Requirements:

  1. Thread must have at least 1 completed page of roleplaying. (21+ posts).

  2. Must roleplay talking to Ali at the Tavern before you accept the quest from him and after you return to the tavern to claim the rewards, in min. 5 posts. (in total, overall)

  3. Fight against the primary group(s) of thieves, find and kill/observe the Manticore (depending on route choice), then defeat the secondary group(s) of thieves when you return. (more information below)

  4. To find the Manticore, players need to roll a LD of 10 in the out of combat post(s) that come after defeating the primary group(s) of thieves. They can engage in combat with it (or walk away and defeat/bypass the remaining thieves) in the next post (depending on route choice).

  5. Any number of players can be take part in this quest. A party constitutes of 4 players max. If there is more than one party, the bandit number multiplies accordingly:
Total number of bandits = 5*(number of parties)
3(per group)*(number of parties) before fighting/observing the Manticore + 2(per group)*(number of parties) on the way back to Ali
Note#1: The secondary party can have between 1 and 4 members, a secondary team can be formed only when there are more than 4 players participating on this quest.

  6. In posts which contain multiple rolls for player and mobs, the roll order is as the following: Player roll -> Thief(s) roll  ||  Player roll -> Chimera roll.
Note#2: When more than one player team is present, attack turns are as the following: Player team 1 -> Bandit group 1 -> Player team 2 -> Bandit group 2 / etc. || Player team 1 -> Manticore x2 -> Player team 2 -> Manticore x2 / etc.

Quest Mob Information:

             jjAS6MPm.jpg

<<Senior Thief>> - A masked NPC in shady clothing of sand-like color wielding a dagger. Receives its(their) own dice roll!
When rolling for a thief or a group of thieves, make sure to use your own username. If you decide to do one roll for a group, the dice apply to every member of the group.
Example: on a successful hit for 'Tri Pierce' each bandit will use that specific sword art on the player with most hate in the party. In case that 2 or more players have the same highest amount of hate, the thieves will split equally in and attack those players.

Note#3: You CANNOT modify the preset stats for the thieves.
If this quest is taken as a Solo Party, the player can fight the bandits one after another using stealth mechanics. In a PP/OP the thieves spawn in groups.

Note#4: In a PP/OP, a player may attempt to skip fighting the thieves if they have invested at least 1 rank in the 'Sneak and Hide' skill; by applying the stealth mechanics. A player will still need to roll X number of times, one for each mob he/she tries to bypass. A player may try to act as bait for the group, if the thief's LD is higher than the player's 'Stealth Rating', the thief will attack the player (using that same roll dices) without alerting the other thief(s), making it possible to kill the mobs one by one. If a player bypasses any number of the required thieves, he/she can still go back and help the rest of the team; or try to bypass all, then leave the thread and finish the quest.

Note#4A: If a player gets attacked by a thief while the rest of the team(s) fight, the player needs to fight the thieve alone until the rest finish their own fights. If a player has succeeded in getting past all the thieves, he/she will receive the rewards upon completing the quest, even if the rest of the team fails/dies. In this situation if the player is the only one to live he is allowed to double post until completing the quest.

Stats:

  • Health: 186 / Damage Mitigation: 43 / Accuracy: 2 / Savvy: 2 / Tier 2 Bleed (8-10 nat BD)
  • Basic Damage: 9 (10 on a natural BD of 9 , 11 on a natural 10 BD of 10)

Available Sword Arts / Conditions (Thief dice):
Bandits don't have an energy bar but they will use sword arts with every successful hit.

  • Infinite - 5x1*(Basic Damage) / [On a successful hit, CD roll 1-3]
  • Tri Pierce - 3x1*(Basic Damage) / [On a successful hit, CD roll 4-8]
  • Cross Edge - 2x4*(Basic Damage) / [On a successful hit, CD roll 9-10, MD roll 1-5]
  • Armor Pierce - 1x1*(Basic Damage) & Stun / [On a successful hit, CD roll 9-10, MD roll 6-10]
  • Shadow Stitch - 3x2*(Basic Damage) / [On a successful hit, CD roll 11-12]

ManticoreHM.jpg

<<Manticore>>

A unnatural mythical beast. Its body made from more than one animal part: a vaguely humanoid head with shark teeth, the body of a lion and the wings of a dragon. Its tail ends in sharp and long spikes, most likely used as an instrument of attack. The Manticore receives its own Dice Roll. When rolling for it, make sure to use your own username.

Note#5: You CANNOT modify the preset stats for the Manticore.

Stats: 647 Health / 50 Damage Mitigation / Accuracy: 3 / Evasion: 2
65
Basic Damage per hit / Tier 2 Burn Damage (on a successful non-critical hit after modifiers, except a natural 8,)

Abilities:

  • Double attack: The chimera attacks twice in one turn, once on a successful BD and second on a successful MD. Evasion/Accuracy or any kind of Battle dice related action applies to the Monster dice as well. This acts as two distinct normal hits, each being mitigable.
  • Partial Phase: The chimera will always deal a minimum of 24 normal damage per hit, even through Armor and Armor Abilities/Mods. Except for the following Fire Breath attack.
  • Fire Breath: On a natural BD/MD of 8-10, the chimera will breath fire, releasing a AoE attack that will affect all players fighting it for 40 normal damage and Tier 2 Burn Damage per post, for the next 2 individual player post. It is possible to simultaneously release 2 Fire Breath attacks if the BD and MD meet the requirements for it. In this case, Burn Damage does not stack but resets post count, while the normal attack damage combines into 80 normal damage; this value is then mitigatable.

Mob Drop:

  • Manticore Mask [Tier 1 or 2, Unique Heavy/Light armor]: 'Taunt, +1 Flame Aura, +1 Damage Mitigation'. A mask that has the same distorted human expression with shark teeth, as the Manticore that dropped it.
This item goes ONLY to the player that dealt the last hit, effectively killing the Chimera. It is instantly received the moment the mob dies; it morphs to the dominant type of armor skill the player has, as tier 2, if the player's level is >= 25, tier 1 otherwise. Tradable afterwards.

Rewards:

  1. (Liar route) - 8,000 Col, 3 SP, Manticore Mask (last hit reward),
  2. (Honest route) - 8,000 Col, 3 SP,
  3. (Scout route) - 8,000 Col, 2 SP.
  • Col amount awarded to each player partaking in the quest
  • The completion of this quest will be a prerequisite for continuing the series.

Quest Ending Description/Dialogue:

  1. (Liar & Scout route) - "Eh? so it's all just a rumour made up by the thieves??? " he asks with a partially surprised expression as you start telling him your story, "I didn't really believe it, without some proof...." he sighs but then produces a pouch full of Col coins. "For your troubles..." he adds while tossing the pouch towards you. In the same time, the Quest Ending Window pops in front of you, displaying your hard earned rewards.
  2. (Honest route) - "Eh? so it's all true???" he asks while staring at the Chimera Mask in his hands. Still, didn't seem as surprised as you'd expect him to be, hinting that maybe such implausible things weren't a strange sight to him. He quickly gets over and starts fooling around with the mask as he heads towards the Tavern's exit. "Almost forgot!" he adds as he turns around and hands you a pouch full of Col coins. "It isn't much but I'll be in your dept." he adds as he leaves the tavern with the mask on his face bouncing around happily, like a kid that got a new toy. In the same time, the Quest Ending Window pops in front of you, displaying your hard earned rewards.

Alec awoke and stretched his massive body in his oversized bed in his bedroom in his cabin on the Fourth Floor of Aincrad. He absolutely loved having a bed that fit his oversized frame. He still had the odd kink or knot here or there that came with being a man of his age but they were much fewer and far between than when he had been cramming himself into those tiny beds in the rented rooms of all those Inn's for all those years. Alec flexed his tree trunk like legs standing up and allowing his bed sheet to slide from his body as he stood and began his morning routine if stretches and limbering movements designed to loosen tight muscles and pop kinked joints. Once the heavily muscled man had finished his morning routine he padded across the stone floor to his kitchen where he poured himself a large mug of piping hot coffee which he dipped enjoyable as he thought about what he should do today.

Alec finished sipping his coffee happily enjoying the rich hold flavor of the piping hot mug within his hand while reading through the Aincrad Gazette. Who knew they had a whole newspaper here in this digital world about this digital world. Alec had had no idea until he bought his house and a message had popped up offering him the morning paper for next to nothing. So Alec had jumped on the opportunity and now had a newspaper delivered to his front door every morning for him to read. There really was nothing better than starting his day with a hot cup of coffee and the morning paper the large heavily muscled man thought to himself as he sipped the steamy hot liquid and read about some of the highlights of the goings on throughout the digital world of Aincrad. Alec smiled as he enjoyed his nice calming morning before he began another day trapped within his virtual prison.

Alec finished his cup of coffee and the morning paper placing the mug in sink and the paper on the bin as he turned to leave the kitchen the large heavily muscled man entered his living room spotting his Familiar Humphrey sprawled out in front of fire place with its embers still warm from last night's fire. The large man walked over and plopped himself down on the couch gently nudging the American bear cub with his bare foot working his large toes through the bears soft fur to scratch the bears back eliciting a loud happy rumbly growl from the bear cub as he stretched further enjoying the warmth and the petting from his friend and companion Alec. "So pal. What do you think we should do today?" The large man asked the bear cub as he continued to work his toes into the bears body. Humphrey responded with a noisy grumbly growl indicating he wanted to continue what they were doing. The large man let out a deep full bodied rumbling laugh at his familiar. "Ok pal. We can relax for a little bit longer." Alec replied as he lazed back on the oversized couch taking a rare moment to relax and enjoy doing nothing.

After a time of fully becoming one with his oversized couch Alec retracted his massive legs gathering them up under his massive frame before flexing them and rising to his feet. The bear cub still sprawled out on the floor before the fire place gave an irritated inquisitive grumble as it kept it's eyes closed. "No pal. You don't have to get up yet I just need to straighten up a bit. It's tough bring a pair of bachelor's. I had forgotten about how much effort Gwen put in keep our house clean back home." The large man offered with a deep heartfelt chuckle as he began moving around the house straightening up here and picking up there. Doing his best to tidy up the house, not that he was expecting company or anything but no one liked living like a slob in a dirt house the large man thought yo himself as he tidied and straightened humming softly to himself as he did.

As Alec continued puttering around his house and generally straightening up he paused as he heard a chime from an incoming message. Huh, I wonder who that could be the large man thought to himself. In fact now that he thought about it he was positive he could count the number of messages he'd received on one hand and he was pretty sure he had fingers to spare as he thought harder with a chuckle. The heavily muscled man reached out opening his interface and tapping the icon reading what it said:

Spoiler

Alec,

Meet me at the Drunken Crane on Floor 7 at dusk.

Ali

Alec read the message over twice. Did he know a Player by the name of Ali? He was sure he didn't, do who in the heck was Ali? The large man thought as he racked his brain for the answer. Finally I dawned on him Ali was the non player character who had enlisted his services in the quest to find his brother and had rewarded him handsomely for doing so as well. Ok it was a little odd Alec thought to himself this must be done time delayed quest or something, because he was pretty sure random NPCs couldn't just message players randomly. But with a nod Alec closed his interface and turned around.

As Alec finished his cleaning he quickly opened his inventory and equipped his items and equipment as he walked back through the living room calling out in his deep baritone rumble. "Come on sleepy head we've got someplace to go."  Humphrey Alec's American black bear cub Familiar responded with a loud groan as it rolled over presenting his back and backside to the large heavily muscled man. "Nope, nope, nope. Not today pal I gave you all morning and a good bit of the afternoon. Ali the guy who asked us to save his brother from the Thieves messaged me and needs us to meet him on the Seventh Floor for some help of some sort. I'm going and I'd really like my best buddy and life saving pal by my side but if you're too busy I guess I can go it alone." The large man called out in lock hurt as he slowly turned and began making his towards you door of the cabin.

Humphrey Alec's American black bear cub Familiar have another grumbling growl as rolled over and gathered his legs under him standing up and padding towards the large man as he walked towards the door of the cabin grumbling and growling quietly as he walked. Like an irritated term following a parent. As Alec reached the door and turned around to face his familiar Humphrey the large man flashed the bear cub a large warm smile. "Thank you Humphrey. I appreciate you choosing to come with me. Having you watch my back always makes me feel more comfortable my friend." The large man offered as his Familiar approached with a broad heartfelt smile. Humphrey responded with a louder more heartfelt growl as he abreast of the large man and excited their cabin i to the snow covered ground of Fourth Floor. Alec closed the door behind himself and followed his friend and companion into the snow covered floor of the Fourth.

Alec and Humphrey made their way through the snow covered terrain of the Fourth Floor of Aincrad to the small Hamlet of Snowfrost. The pair walked through the main gate of the small village and made their way to the Teleport Pad at the center of the town square. Without a word shared between them the pair stepped up onto the pad and the large heavily muscled man spoke one word in his deep baritone rumble. "Nimbus." The word rang out deep and strong resonating as the pair disappeared in the blink of an eye only reappear like magic on an identical pad on a totally different floor. Alec and Humphrey stepped off of the Teleport Pad and made their way through the streets of the town of Nimbus on the Seventh Floor of Aincrad headed for the blip on the large man's display that marked the tavern known as the Drunken Crane where Ali was supposed to be waiting for him based on the message he'd received earlier.

Alec made his way through the streets of Nimbus following the dot on his map overlay till he stood before a sturdy door in the monumental fortresses interior wall. A small wooden sign hung above and to the side of the door reading Drunken Crane. Alec glanced from the sign to his companion and back. "Well pal looks like this is the place. Here we go." The large heavily muscled man said to his companion Humphrey as he opened the door and stepped inside the tavern. The air was thickly laced with heavy tobacco odors as the large man stepped inside. A purplish hazy hung across the room strong with the scent of various liquors as Alec scanned the inhabitants for one face in particular. After a short time Alec spotted the man he was looking for across the room at a private table. Alec made his way across the tavern towards the man he had come to meet.

As the large heavily muscled man approached the booth he greeted the olive complexioned many sitting there. "Hello Ali. I got your message. What's up?" Alec asked in his deep baritone rumble.

"Have you heard?!?" The olive complexioned man asked as he glanced over both his shoulders and leaned around to peer part Alec and his massive frame trying to ensure no one was paying attention to eavesdropping on their conversation.

"They say those Bandits." Ali began in a hushed whisper as he raised his hand to hide his face. "Have tamed some sort body legendary being. Some strange combination of a lions body, with the wings of a dragon and the tail of a scorpion." Ali continued as he waved his hand not covering the side of his face for the large man to sit in the booth with him.

Alec nodded to the dark skinned man as he took the seat in the booth opposite Ali and sat down while Ali leaned forward as he continued to speak in a hushed conspiratorial whisper.

As Ali leaned in closer towards the large man he continued his tale in hushed whispers. "The tales I have heard tell that the Bandits had captured it from the other side of Nimbus, high up in the mountains." The dusky skinned man continued in a hushed disbelieving tone as he spun his tale for the large muscular man. "Can you check this out for me?" Ali asked as he once more peered around the tavern ensuring no one was listening in on what the non player character had to say to the large heavily muscled Tank. "If you find these tall tales to be true perhaps you could.....slay this beast for means bring back some sort of proof of its existence?" Ali asked in a nearly pleading tone as he stared across the table at the large man imploringly as Alec sat patiently in the booth across from the dusky skinned non player character listening to his tale and waiting for Ali to finish his tale so that he could accepts the quest and move forward.

The dusky skinned non player character Ali continued his tale after another obvious search around the room with his eyes as he peered to ensure no one was listening in on the tale he was telling the large heavily muscled Alec. Ali ducked his head again with his hand held up to block the side of his mouth from any curious on lookers. "If you were to find such a miraculous and mythical beast. Maybe you could slay it and bring back some proof to me? You did such a great job finding my brother and dealing with those pesky Bandits that I doubt you'll have a hard time with a little beast like this." The dusky skinned man finished with an added laugh that left a looming feeling of dread and an unspoken bad omen lingering in the air between the pair. As Ali finished his tale he looked to the large man questioningly awaiting his answer.

As the dusky skinned non player character Ali finished his tale he gazed across the booth at the large man seated across from him as a chime sounded only Alec could hear and a illusory quest window popped up before his vision. The large heavily muscled man reached out a massive arm and with a thick index finger extended he poked the <<ACCEPT>> button which caused another chime to appear as he accepted the quest causing the the banner to disappear as he shifted his gaze to the man seated across from him. "Ok Ali." Alec said in his deep baritone rumble. "I'll go check these Bandits and their trained mythical creature." The large man assented with a nod of his head causing the non player character to break out in a broad smile as a set of coordinates pinged showing up on Alec's map.

"Excellent my friend! Excellent!" Ali gushed as he pumped Alec's hand up and down in a vigorous prolonged hand shake.

Alec finally dislodged himself from the over excited dusky skinned man and his excessive handshake allowing Alec to make his escape from the cloying purple smoke infested tavern known as the Drunken Crane here in the town of Nimbus on the Seventh Floor of Aincrad. As the large heavily muscled man left the main town he followed the small blip on his map overlay marking the supposed location of the Bandits. As the large man traversed the rocky inhospitable terrain of the Seventh Floor he covered much ground in his search of the Bandits. Ever onward the large man travelled over the rocky inhospitable mountainous terrain of the Seventh Floor. Untill he neared the spot on his map overlay that signified the approximate location of the Bandit camp. The large man dropped into a hunched crouch as he made his way forward trying to get a lay out of the area before he encountered any combatants or hostile mobs.

Alec spotted a trio of the Thieves ahead amidst a grouping of tents with a small campfire on their middle. The three men were wearing sandy brown robes and we're squatting sitting on their heals around the fire talk as Alec let out a sonorous bellow as he contracted and flexed his tree trunk like legs launching himself into the air soaring through the nights sky to land amid the three men swinging his Forearm Axe down in a mighty swing that delivered a devastating blow to the first of the Thieves. As Alec stepped toward his second target his knee buckled causing him to stumble and flail as he tripped missing his second and third attacks as he fought to right himself. The three thieves quickly flowed into action moving with the speed of serpents the three men in sand colored robed with drawn long serrated daggers from the folds of their robes and struck like three lashing snakes slashing and stabbing the large heavily muscled man opening ragged cuts in his arms and torso the leaked red pixels as he himself swung his razor sharp saw bladed shield around in a trio of arcing swings slashing into the thieves again open his own cuts in their flesh making them pay for damaging him.

Alec regained his footing after his earlier stumble as he gathered his feet beneath him the large heavily muscled man activated a Sword Art causing his crescent shaped axe heads affixed to his forearm to begin glowing as energy built within them. When the energy had reached its peak the large man contracted and flexed his tree trunk like legs launching himself into the air. As he reached the peak of his jump he drew his Forearm Axe up over his head and swung it around in a wide arc and he plummeted to the ground. As the large man landed his ankle twisted and turned causing him to stumble and miss his first attack, but the two subsequent attacks were delivered with devistating force and accuracy as his Battle Axe dug deeply in the last two targets. The three sand robed Thieves lunged forward their daggers striking lightbulb fast as their arms blurred and each thief delivered three rapid strikes to the large Tank that barely nicked the large man as he again swung his razor sharp shield around again slicing into the thief's opening more cuts and releasing more red pixels into the air.

Alec stood tall amid the three thieves in their sand colored robes. The large heavily muscled Tank once more reached out and activated another Sword Art causing his twin crescent shaped battle axe heads to begin glowing as the games energy built within them. When his weapon had reached its maximum energy level the huge man sprang into the air and came crashing back down amongst the three thieves however the Alec had miss timed his attack and all three thieves flowed like water dodging the large man's heavy handed attack as they swooped back in lunging and stabbing with their daggers as they barely nicked the Tanks flesh when suddenly Alec felt that warm familiar glow as Humphrey sent a wave of healing energy into the large man filling his health back up to full causing a large smile to crack Alec's perpetual scowl as he once more swung his razor sharp shield around slicing into the thieves again and dropping their hit points further. All three thieves health bars were in the red the large man noted with a nod. This fight was almost over he thought to himself as he readied himself to finish this fight.

Alec stood his ground tall and proud amid the three thieves in their sand colored robes. The large heavily muscled Tank took a deep breath calming himself as he stood eyeing the three men with dirty smirks upon their faces as Alec glanced from one to another eyeing their depleted health bars. One more attack was all it would take but why waste his own energy he thought yo himself when these computer controlled combatants would do it for him. So Alec stood patiently waiting his shield held up before him as he waited for them to strike. Then as one the three men flowed forward like water their daggers stretching out towards the lone man. As the thieves connected Alec's heavy armor did its job absorbing all but the tiniest of damage which got through and was instantly washed away but his Battle Healing. Alec responded in kind by spinning into motion slashing this way and that with his razor sharp saw bladed shield tearing through each of the thieves and causing them to explode into showers of pixels as the large man stood up to his full height rolling his shoulders and walking in in search of a mythical beast.

As the trio of sand robed Thieves exploded into harmless showers of red pixels Alec stood up to his full height of nearly six and a half feet tall rolling his shoulders and loosening his muscles that had been tightened due to fighting. The three computer controlled combatants had proven to be if little to no trouble for the large Tank. Now he needed to find this mythical beast Ali had spoken of. The one with the body of a lion, the wings of a dragon and the scorpion like tail. It sounded like some kind of science fiction mad scientists freaky experiment to Alec but who knew, he wasn't really into the while science fiction fantasy genre crime novels and football had always been more his thing not Dungeons and whatever it was. With a rueful smile and a shake of his head the large man set out in search of this fantastical beast wondering where on Earth.....err Aincrad.....he'd find it the large man thought to himself as he quickly slipped his Luck Stone from his Battle Ready inventory slot and swapped out his Forearm Axe and began his search.

As Alec began walking away from the thieves camp sight he began searching for this mythical beast they had supposedly captured from a remote location here on the the Seventh Floor and trained to do their bidding. The whole story seemed kind of fantastical and far fetched but then again none of this was real and they all were stuck inside of a video game so real or not the story very well could be true he finally conceded to himself. As Alec walked outside the camp he quickly spotted a timber pen nearby where he caught the sound of rustling coming from within it. As Alec approached he soon saw a beast out of a dream or possibly a nightmare as the spotted a large creature curled up within the pen. The beast let out a growl as it shifted it's misshapen body stretching and arching it's back as it's leathery wings unfurled.
