The scene outside the circus tent was straight out of a b-roll zombie flick from the 1980s America films. NPCs were running helplessly through the streets only to get caught up by zombies and they themselves to reinforce the growing horde. Undead suddenly began to climb from fissures that rent the ground around Baldur, causing the gaijin samurai to stagger for a moment before catching his balance.

"Well then, let's get to this..." He opened the bingo book and scanned through it.

"Last hit on 50 seems like a lot. Better to just let them hit me and heal the damage. But I might as well see how tough they are first."

Reaching down, Baldur gripped the <<Muramasa>> and focused his eyes on the nearest zombie, still off on its own, and vulnerable to the wanna-be samurai and his gorilla tactics.

"Here I go!" Baldur called out, as he streaked towards the first.

The <<Muramasa>> sung as the blue and orange streak that was Baldur flew through the air with incredible speed, an explosion of crimson light as the gaijin samurai drew the blade from its saya and unleashed the first of the massive overhead blows that rained down on the first zombie girl. A whirlwind of color as the system assist carried him through the motions of <<San Ge>> and tore into the digital structure that was the zombie girl in front of him. Her HP bar quickly began to dive even before the move was completed, until all she had was a sliver of life left and Baldur was frozen for a moment in the post motion of the sword art. The zombie girl whirled around and backhanded the samurai, sending him stumbling backwards once he finally regained control of his avatar.

"Ouch!" he cried out, but turned to face her and prepared for his next art.

Turning to face the zombie girl, the steel eyes of the gaijin samurai finally registered her appearance and... threat level. The zombie appeared to be a peasant girl in tattered...what he could only consider the medieval equivalent of valley girl peasant garb. That or she looked like some kind of ren faire reject... something out of a bad meme about what people really looked like in period costume. But Baldur hesitated for only a moment before he stepped into the form a lesser known sword art, <<Tsuji Kaze>> as that was all he really needed to do to finish her off.

He held the blade at his side, almost as if it were still in the sheath, and then the system grabbed him and yanked him into the motions of the sword art... or it would have, but the practiced samurai was familiar with the motions and it carried him through gently.

Baldur health the position that the sword art dumped him out into and then counted what felt like his heart beats, trying to time is just right, and sheathed his sword, but the timing was just barely off, and the zombie girl behind him shattered into a multitude of luminescent polygons that rained down amidst the darkness of the zombie apocalypse event. It had been a while since he practiced sheathing his sword in time with the monster exploding, and trying not to look back at his handy work. It was really only something he could do when he wasn't worried about the damage he might take if he hadn't finished them off.

Breaking out one of the potions from his inventory, Baldur chugged down the spider cider and then brushed what felt like liquid from his lips, though really there was nothing there... the game wasn't that detailed, but it was a force of habit.

He had barely watched his HP reach back up to full, when another zombie staggered out of the crowd and assaulted him. This one was a large, fat, unpleasant looking zombie who had some sort of stench that hurt far more than any amount of damage he had ever received. It bore some sort of funny red fop hat, and staggered at him with a strange sort of slapping attack. Had Baldur not been paying attention, it may have hit him, but the gaijin samurai simply batted the attack away with his blade, before rising his stance back into the <<San Ge>> stance and began raining crimson bands of sword arts down onto the unpleasant zombie creature. The damage he was doing would probably have been enough to kill these things, but they always seemed to have just a tiny bit of HP left in the red when he was done with them.

"Must be the mit."

Once again the fat, red hatted zombie bore down on Baldur, and he was immediately assaulted with the smell of bile and excrement from the bottom feeding predator and it alone was enough to make Baldur's eyes water for a moment, allowing the monster to again backhand him and send him back a few steps. The samurai quickly regained his stance, and the armor he bore, the maximum amount for someone with light armor and focused on evasion, made most of the damage from the fatso irrelevant. Annoyed at himself for getting some of the zombie on him and his pristine armor, Baldur once again stepped into his stance for <<Tsuji Kaze>> and launched forwards.

As he stuck the creature, there was a momentary resistance, as if an effect of the minion was triggered, but then the flash of a critical hit resonated, and Baldur's blade sank the rest of the way through the monster.

The shower of multi-hued luminous polygons that rained down around him after the fat, red hatted monster met his well deserved end was truly inspiring. If the average zombie had a few thousand polygons, this one must have had a million... it was an order of magnitude larger than the usual eruption. He began to wonder if perhaps the giant zombie had actually been a pinata from a craft store for drag queens with the way glitter seemed to erupt when the 3d model shattered.

Once again, the Samurai reached into his inventory and pulled out the spider cider. It had a pleasant taste, though perhaps the after taste was a little too tart for his usual liking. Still, it tasted better than the other consumables he had purchased for the event, and he would certainly not complain if he ended up getting what he needed from the event. Something to upgrade to a demonic weapon.

Zombie the third was less unique than the previous too had been. While zombie girl and red hat had been more memorable models, this one was more emaciated and wearing tattered clothing in earth tones that reminded him something from an ancient game he had played when he was a child, Plants Vs Zombies 15. It wasn't nearly as good as 16 had been, but 16 was Plants Vs Zombies in space, and thus their clothing couldn't really be compared to what you'd see in Sword Art Online.

Still the emaciated zombie came. Baldur ran a finger along the blade, activating the <<concentration>> skill, before he moved into the stance of <<San Ge>> and was launched towards the zombie, his form a whirlwind of blue and orange and crimson as he bore down on the truly brainless computer graphic monster. Perhaps brainless was unfair. It did have an artificial intelligence that was more intelligent than many people he knew IRL.

The unremarkable zombie, like many before it, managed to just barely survive Baldur's San Ge attack, and the Gaijin Samurai was once again held for a heartbeat by the post motion of the sword art he had used. However, this zombie seemed a little slower than the zombie girl had been, and Baldur was able to dive into a roll under the grabbing attack the non descript zombie attempt to use on him. Spinning back to face the foe, Baldur focused his eyes on the monster, once again targetting him and then stepping into the pre-motion of the sword art Tsuji Kaze, and unleashing the crimson bands of the muramasa in a dazzling arc which split the zombie in two.

Of the three, this one was the least impressive in every way. It hadn't even hurt him, though Baldur had evaded... The point was to let them hurt him so that he could rack up healing use.

As the life left the artificial eyes of the third zombie, it's form cracking through out its model, another zombie dove through the shattering form. The fourth zombie seemed to be a contender, landing a critical hit on Baldur even has he had been once again attempting to sheath his sword and time it with the destruction of his foe. The fourth zombie practically tackled Baldur to the ground, and just barely the gaijin samurai managed to turn his body before they both hit the ground, allowing him to seperate from the putrescent creature before jumping back up to his feet.

The shower of glowing polygons still rained around them as Baldur got to his feet, the sword already moving to San Ge as if this had all been rehearsed for a movie. Crimson light once again flew from the gaijin samurai and tore into the haggard form of the undead creature before him.

As Baldur was locked into the system's post motion animation from the sword art he had unleashed on zombie number 4, he fought against the bonds that prevented him from moving, twirling around and throwing up his sword to bat aside the attack, side stepping the monster once again, and leading it harmlessly past him before he turned and dropped back into Tsuji Kaze for the finishing blow. At this rate, he could practically kill them all day... well... until he ran out of energy... a frown on his face as he glanced at the corner of his vision where his life and energy meters were. His health was practically fully, but his energy was less than half as Tsuji Kaze tore into the zombie...

but it still stood.

Tsk.

Baldur looked at the monster, alive with only the tiniest sliver of hit points left, but Baldur didn't want to continue to waste time on this monster.

Remembering that he wanted to try and take damage form these things so that he could heal it up, and knowing full well that these things would have to get critical hits in order to even hurt him, and that they could wail on him for a while and he could probably heal up the damage faster than they could hurt him, especially with the potions in hand.

Turning, he found another zombie nearby and moved to take his San Ge stance once more, preparing to launch his attack at the new one in order to draw another into the fray, he began to launch the sword art when zombie number 4 got too close and its limbs got tangled into the automated movements of the sword art. The weight was all wrong, and the motions seemed to get tied up and bogged down at the same time, causing Baldur's San Ge to miss the attack on his fifth zombie.

Annoyed at himself for what had just happened, Baldur decided to just chug down some of this health potion. He had some hit points to regain, and they could wail on him until they were finished for all the gaijin samurai cared for. Reaching into his inventory, he pulled out another spider cider and chugged the drink down. His HP wasn't very low, but he wanted to get through these consumables, not be efficient in his use of them. The two zombies charged at him, but they seemed to collide together and fall on the ground at his feet.

With a sigh, Baldur stepped back, giving them room to get up and be able to attack him together. At least then maybe he could start working through more of these spider ciders and this event wouldn't take too long. As he was chugging the drink, Baldur thought he saw what looked like his kouhei, the Ultramarine Knight running nearby.

Baldur ignored the zombies as he began to walk forward towards where he had thought he saw his kouhei, the ultramarine knight, run across the street that Baldur was on and onto an adjacent one further into the event. He hadn't seen Calrex in a while, and honestly his student of the blade would be a good person to catch up with since Baldur had missed the last floor boss fight. As a fellow member of the Spectrum Coalition, with or without a formal guild, Baldur knew they had the bond of family, or as close to kin as one could be in this game. Calrex would not judge him.

The two zombies trailed behind Baldur, trying to bite and claw at the samurai, but he paid them little heed. Their speed was slow, so the best they were able to do were get glancing claw attacks to penetrate his armor.

As the zombies continued to land minor blows on Baldur's avatar, regardless of the armor and the armor buff he was wearing, the samurai pulled another potion out of his inventory and took a drink, causing his hit points to raise almost as much as they had fallen due to the zombie attacks. The cool down was short for these drinks but this was going to take forever at this rate, so the gaijin samurai continued to walk down the street in the direction his apprentice had gone, but without a care about attracting more zombies. The most he could pull was 4, and then there wouldn't be any more room for them to attack him, so he had little care as the claw marks continued to rain down on his back.

"Where did that Cal-kun run off to? He didn't even say hi? or write a message?" Baldur gave a smirk as he sought to amuse himself as he searched.

Turning another corner, he saw what he was sure was the form of his blue haired sword apprentice. Calrex seems to have respeced out of the katana once they had managed to get through to Teayre. Now he had only the best attacks he could, both in single target and in AoE. Why Martial Arts was at the top of the food chain with Assault Spear and Katana, Baldur never could quite figure out. It seemed some developer must have fetishized martial arts, and made it his pet, and no one on the system design team seemed to care about what kind of play that would encourage in a game named SWORD art online, but who was Baldur to judge. He had taken katana long before it became one of the best weapons you could use in the game.

That had been a welcome change when it had happened. Baldur only then noticed as he turned corner he had picked up a third zombie.

The attacks and the time were beginning to accumulate on the gaijin samurai's health bar, and his hit points were getting dangerously close to half way. Apparently he couldn't just ignore them for quite so long. The samurai turned to face the three zombies he had attracted and placed his left hand on the katana in its saya at his hip. He looked at his energy, having not refilled much in spite of how much time had passed. It was low enough that he wanted to be efficient with his use of energy to get rid of these three. He didn't want to end the fight with no energy, and he didn't want to leave one alive when he had very little left, of heavens forbid, being unable to finish one off because he ran out of energy.

"Well, here we go. This should get me pretty close to where I need to be."

Grabbing the katana, Baldur ran his eyes over the three zombies, making sure he selected only the ones he wanted to hit with his area of effect sword art strike. Amatsu no Homura should be enough to kill the two he had injured, but the third one would take a follow up strike.

He charged up the blade and then launched forward, the first crimson band of light cut down the fourth zombie that had been hounding him for a while. At one point, he thought this zombie would be a contender for a good fight, but it shattered before Baldur had even struck the fifth zombie, but it two would explode in a shower of polygons all the colors of the rainbow, and then Baldur's sword art would carry him into the sixth zombie, and he tore it almost in half with his sword art. It survived though the grace of Baldur having a lower ability in Area of Effect attacks.

With the last remaining zombie somewhere around fifty percent health, Baldur didn't want to risk it coming away with a single hit point like the previous contender had. So Baldur turned to face the final zombie and gave it everything he had. He stepped into his most powerful sword art, and San Ge blossomed to life around Baldur, sprouting crimson wings at he moved at inhuman speeds through a rank five sword art, chopping men, do four times, and the men again. It took Baldur back to his kendo days, practicing these movements. It had helped him get better at his Japanese before he had been trapped in this game. Though being stuck in sword art online had done wonders for Baldur's ability to reach the japanese language. Hiragana had been easy for him to learn, but katakana had been a second alphabet almost exactly the same, but slightly different because it was meant to replicate sounds from non-japanese languages. Those were everywhere here.

A shower of sparked rained down on Baldur, perfectly timed with the click of his blade into the scabbard. He let out a soft and satisfied breath that he had finally done it. He had timed sheathing his blade with the shattering of the the three dimensional model of the zombie he had just killed. It was petty. Juvenile really. But he loved it, and it brought him no end of satisfaction. With a smirk on his lips, Baldur pulled out all the remaining health potions and drained them one after the other. His hit points had been near half when he finished that zombie off, and he had just enough health potions to get himself back to full, and then he could go and join Calrex.

"Now where has my errant kouhei gone?" The gaijin samurai's steel blue eyes surveyed the dizzying array of streets and alleys that made up the Town of Beginnings.
