[F01 - R8 Blacksmith] The Ring and Sword

Recommended Posts

Koga couldn't remember the last time he'd walked into this shop. He just hadn't had the heart for it since...

A thick layer of dust had gathered on all the furniture and armaments. The shelves were completely empty now, and the display cases that had housed the jewelry were devoid of any signs that anything had ever occupied them. It was like she never even existed...

Koga could feel his teeth grind against each other as the muscles in his jaw tensed. He needed to pull himself together. The man moved to the back of the shop and pushed open the wooden door behind the counter. It squeaked as if rusted. Except things didn't rust in this game...maybe he just imagined it. The forge was exactly as he'd left it, except of course for the dirt that had accumulated on his tools, workbench, and anvil. At least somethings hadn't changed.

A low whining sound came from the door of the forge, and Koga turned around to look at Okami. The white wolf stared at his master sadly as he let out a few more pitiful whines. "I know bud. I miss them too..." He really did...god how he missed them...the swordsman felt the heat of a stray tear run down his face, and he wiped it away with the back of sleeve. "C'mon boy, we got some cleaning to do."

Enryu had seen this shop once or twice before, but only in passing. He had never the intentions of purchasing any item from somebody he did not know, for every resource is precious. However, he's desperate, so that large door is pushed against, and he enters -- taking in the surroundings as they come. He's as lost as a fish out of water, but still, he makes his way down the aisle; up to the counter with a bit of col in hand. He drops it on the table, then says, "I had a request I was hoping you could fulfill. I'll pay whatever you want."

"Please."

Koga leaned against the counter and watched the newcomer walked up to him. The man looked as bad as Koga felt. Maybe even worse. How had this guy survived so long?

The snow-haired man dropped some col onto the counter, the golden coins clinking onto the wood. Koga looked down at the coins, disinterested.

"Please."

Koga looked back up at the man, staring into his eyes, as if examining him. A moment of silence passed between them before Koga let out a sigh. "Yeah, sure. I'll message you when it's ready...now get out...and don't die before you pay me in full."

It was late. Koga couldn't sleep. He didn't usually have dreams. But the past year had been wrought full of nightmares that got worse by the day, if that was even possible. If you thought an insomniac couldn't feel anymore tired than they usually did, you were dead wrong. Half the time, Koga felt like he was just a walking corpse.

But not tonight. His dream tonight didn't terrify him. Tonight it fueled him. The man who wanted this sword, he was desperate. There were few reasons a man looked the way he did, and whatever his reason was, it was probably a good one.

The blacksmith hammered the metal, sweat pouring from his brow as the flames threw their orange glow throughout the room. It wasn't long before the white-hot ingot began to glow even brighter and morph into something else. Was this it? It had to be. The glow faded, and Koga examined the blade. Perfect.

Koga instantly sent a message to the customer. His sword was ready.

When Enryu would walk into the store, he'd see Koga waiting for him. The blacksmith did not seem as defeated or spiteful as the days prior. In fact, it might have even seemed like he had a spark hiding behind his eyes. Faint, but there. When Koga saw Enryu walk in he procured a velvet wrapped item from under the counter and gently set it on the counter. "This is it. The Sword of Silver. It's my best craft yet." Koga unwrapped the silver blade. It shone brightly, almost as if it were glowing. "Promise me something. You'll use this to protect someone you love. No matter what." That was this blacksmith's price.

As that piece is unswathed from it's red velvet blanket, presented to Enryu as a gift - his eyes light up like a star in the night sky, filled with - not joy, but rather, pure awe. He has to take in it's beauty for a minute. "It's amazing," the man says just before his arm reaches out to take hold of his newly acquired blade. It's reflective, to say the least.

And then that promise.

"No matter what."

The girl pushed open the door to the blacksmithing shop on the first floor. While she didn't intend on fighting too much, she did need something to do on the battlefield other than heal. "Hi hi!" She would say to announce her arrival, drawing out the second hi for an extra second. A bright smile on her face, she would step forward. "I'm looking to have something made please!" She would say enthusiastically before presenting the small slip of paper. The weapon was designed with her build in mind, a healer with the ability to ignore mitigation and prevent incoming damage by taking down targets.

Koga looked at the brightly colored girl as she walked in. Well wasn't she just a bundle of sunshine? The man took the slip of paper from her hand, and looked at it. "Yeah, I should be able to handle this. Might take a day or two. I'll go ahead and message you when it's ready," he said with a nod. "In the mean time, stay safe."

This almost reminded the man of the weapons he used to make for Noctua. They almost always had bleed back then. The man gave the slip of paper a sad smile as he moved back to the forge and got to work.

Another day, another...five attempts. Koga had five more materials left. Which meant he only had five more shots at getting this work order done. Time to give it ago. The bellows were fired up, the hammer's strike echoed off the walls of the forge. Each ingot glowed blue, and either exploded into oblivion, or became a weapon. But none were what he needed. As the last craft failed Koga let out a frustrated groan and threw the hammer at the opposing wall, causing a loud banging noise. Okami shot to his feet at the noise, and then realizing it was just yet another failed attempt from his master, settled back down. Koga had to be the worst blacksmith in existence.

Koga swung the door to the forge open and immediately grabbed his hammer. He had the materials, he'd spent col on them, if he didn't get this god forsaken sword done today, he was officially quitting blacksmithing and becoming a performer. He wasn't doing this crap anymore.

The first few crafts went about as poorly as he expected. Uncommon, rare, fail, fail. The universe must've thought this was real funny. The man swore as he realized he was on his very last material. He closed his eyes and said a silent prayer to whatever gods existed out there. Let this be it...

And there it was, the Blue Poison, just as requested. Koga lifted the weapon, and looked down the length of the blade, ensuring it was straight. A faint smile ghosted across his lips. Yeah, this was perfect.

The next morning, when the customer would walk in, she'd find the blacksmith passed out behind the counter, sitting in a chair, leaning against the wall. It wasn't until he heard the door open that he awoke startled. "Ah! Oh, it's just you." He mumbled. The man yawned and rubbed his eyes, while pointing at weapon on the counter. "There she is. All yours."

Having received word that the weapon she ordered was complete, she returned to the blacksmithing shop. "Hi hi!" She said in her normal enthusiastic tone. Startled, she watched as the boy awoke from his slumber. "Sorry for waking you! I didn't know you were sleeping!" She said apologetically. He pointed to the weapon at the counter tiredly and she skipped over to examine it. It was nearly exactly what she had imagined. Now, if she needed to fight she could melt down opponents without having to invest into the sword skill. "Thank you very much! See you around!" She would exclaim, making her way out of the door with her new possession.

—Artisan is permanently closed. DO NOT ASK—

(So, what? The shop was called 'The Sword' now?)

An orders fell onto the desk of the blacksmith, spacious fields scrawled out with varying details in large, capitalized letters. The writing looked neat and prim, but the blot of the pen's ink seemed to dictate more haste than its author meant to convey.

"Here. Make these. And be as precise as you can with the measurements." With a quick finger, she tapped the request near the top, where her name was signed. "Message me when they're done."

With that, the customer bailed from the store.

Koga had just walked out of the backroom forge to the shopfront, wiping the soot from his hands with a dirty rag, only to see a woman scribbling out an order and leaving them on the counter before issuing some instructions and leaving very, very quickly.

"...What in the fuck?"

Koga had had a few odd balls come through the shop before, but he'd never had anyone yeet out like that before. Whatever...Koga picked up the order and gave it a quick read before heading into the back again. Here's hoping the RNG Gods were on his side for once...

Koga put every ounce of strength into each of his hammer's blow. The sound of metal striking metal echoed off the walls as sweat beaded at the man's brow. The first craft was a failure. It didn't surprise the man, nor did it surprise him when each one after that was as well. The day was nearly done now. He had one last chance.

The blacksmith paused and took a deep breath. It was all or nothing now. The forge roared to life again for the eighth time that day, and the ingot was heated until it could be shaped. The hammer struck, and the metal glowed iridescent, morphing into shape.

---

Koga had sent a message to the customer the night before. Honestly, he'd been quiet please with himself. That had been the first time he'd gotten an order done the same day. When the woman walked in, she'd find her armor displayed proudly on an armor rack in the middle of the shop. "There she is. All yours."

There it was.

Perfection.

Either it had been the spikes upon the armor piece that stole her breath away, ground to a sharp point difficult for opponents to ignore. Or it was the intricacies of the piece, details etched into metal in a mesmerizing structure, that Nian knew her vision for the piece had come true. But it was with an exhale that her instincts returned, a rugged thumb brushing over the plate with extreme caution.

Something was off. The measurements? Not by more than a smidgen.

The player quickly donned the equipment, mind running through calculations for flexibility during the heat of battle. A little tight -- nothing she couldn't deal with. Where her subject faltered, she had to make up the difference.

"It's enough," Nian called back to the blacksmith with a flick of her cap. "Au revoir. Keep the change."

The patron sauntered off, dismissing the chest piece with a snap of her fingers.

Koga wasn't sure why, but he had the urge to forge today, despite not having any orders, or any real designs in mind. Maybe he just felt like taking some of his aggression out on some metal or something. In any case, the man walked into the back of his shop, lit the forge, and got to work.

By the end of it all, Koga had four swords of varying quality before him. Somehow, Okami had slept through all the racket, and was still snoring peacefully in the corner as Koga gave the weapons their final polish. Well...what to do with them now?

Well...it wasn't like he needed them for anything, so...Koga picked up the best of the lot, a black sword with a ruby pommel and peeked outside of his shop. Yeah. That guy would do.

The sound of the shop's door bursting open echoed down the street and was quickly followed by the sound of metal and leather connecting with some kid's skull.

"It's a piece of shit, but you look like you could use something better than the trash you got now!" he shouted at the boy before slamming the door to his shop closed.

A look of bewilderment went around those who had witnessed the event...did weird things like that always occur in front of the Ring and Sword?

@Tron Vs Matrix

Giving to Tron:

Spoiler

Item Name: The Blackstone Shard
Item Type: One-Handed Straight Sword
Tier: 1
Quality: Perfect
Enhancements: Damage III
Description: A long black colored sword, the weapon in question is thought to be inspired by the prison on the first floor. The blade points to a doubled edged tip, making it sturdy. The blade though is light, the blade sturdy but thin, and the guard is brought on by a flat but simplistic design. Bringing it all to a bow with the handle, wrapped in black leather and a black Ruby at the end. It’s glittery, but weak all at once.

The sun was rather dull that morning on Aincrads first floor, notably it was the first town, the town of beginnings. A huge city full of players who all joined day one. The city though grew thin with people year after year, whether going to the frontlines or heading straight towards the ground below Aincrad Castle. Tron though walked along a quiet part of town, shops everywhere but he was ultimately watching as the sun gave light to the street.
Tron was always thinking he should probably get out of that town, his fear though was always atop of him, providing a dull mindset to the complexity he had in his mind. He was simply having his hands in his pockets, and his head up as he stood in front of the Ring and Sword, although soon he would look upon a black sword that was practically thrown at him like a dart. The shop keep mumbling the shit quality of the sword, and eventually slamming his door as quick as it opened, leaving Tron and others around just as confused.
The town though returned to its normal activity not a moment later, and Tron was still sitting on the ground after falling on his ass. He picked up the sword, light a sturdy as he tapped on it, the information of the sword appearing before him. A blue circle beneath that.

“The blackstone Shard? This seems a little to high in quality for me to...” And that’s where Tron realized the sword was made nearly perfect, but tier one none the less. How did the weapon fit perfectly for him, but yet it had enhancements he could use. Tron’s eyebrows perked as he put the thing on back. The sword in his hand and on his back disappearing and only his back replaced with the Blackstone Shard. Tron was happy as he got up, and walking on with his day, the crystal at the end of the sword shining like there was no tomorrow.

Crafting twice in one day? Koga must be losing his mind. But, then again, that was the first time he'd gotten a perfect craft so quickly...maybe he could push his luck just a little bit further...Firing up the bellows, the man heated his metals and began hammering away. The first craft didn't make it, which did not bode well. Even still, for some reason or another, Koga still remained hopeful. The second craft though. Now THAT was a dagger. It was a sinister thing though. Not that was something that actually bothered Koga. He wore all black after all, like the edgelord he was.
