The morning started as many had since Alec had found himself here within the virtual prison that was his home, also known as Aincrad or Sword Art Online. The large heavily muscled man stretched and groaned as he lay within the over sized bed within his bedroom inside his cabin on the snow covered Fourth Floor of Aincrad. Alec sat up in his bed and placed his bare feet upon the cool stone floor of his bedroom floor. As the large man leaned forward he placed his beard face and bald head within his large calloused hands. The aging man rubbed his string rough hands across his face and head as a sudden unexplained wave of vertigo washed over the middle aged man and an overwhelming sense of unexplained Deja Vu gripped the man for a moment. As the sensation passed Alec shook his head to clear it as he took several deep breaths to help alleviate the sensation. "Wow! That was odd!" The heavily muscled man said in his deep baritone rumble as he placed his hands upon his knees and flexed his tree trunk like legs and raised himself to a standing position as he allowed his cotton sheets to slide off his body and land in a pile upon his bed.

Alec stood in his bedroom stretching his thick arms wide till his deep chest gave an audible pop at his sternum. Then the large man rolled his shoulders forward receiving a series of pops and grinding noises in response as he linked his thick fingers together and stretched the strong muscles of his broad back before bending over to reach for his toes allowing his spine and vertebrae to pop as they shifted back into their natural positions. As the heavily muscled man straightened his back and assumed a standing position he allowed his strong arms to hang loosely at his sides as he took several deep breaths before leaving his bedroom his bare feet padding softly on the cool stone floor of his house as he made his way through the living room. As the large man entered his living room he quickly spotted his familiar and friend Humphrey stretched out upon a rug laying before the embers of last night's fire as they slowly cooled within the massive stone fireplace. The American Black Bear cub had thick velvety fur and was sound asleep snoring softly as he lay peacefully before the warm fireplace. The image gave the big man a genuine smile that softened his normally stern features and warmed his perpetual scowl as he continued through the room and into the adjoining kitchen.

Alec padded softly on hate feet into his kitchen stopping at the coffee pot to pour himself a steaming mug of the dark liquid. The sight and smell of the dark flavorful drink brought another smile to his hard featured face. One wonderful thing about this world, the large man thought to himself as he brought the piping hot mug to his lips and took a satisfying drink. The coffee was always hot and ready! The heavily muscled man thought to himself as he padded over to the fridge and pulled out some food for breakfast. As he closed the fridge door the large man heard a growling yawn from the other side of the door causing a deep chuckle to escape from deep within himself. "Thought breakfast might get you up lazy bones." Alec offered in his deep baritone rumble along with a deep heartfelt laugh at the sight of his friend and companion Humphrey wandering into the kitchen like the world's largest fluffiest dog.

The American black bear cub responded with a loud grumbling growl of his own as he plopped down on his rear end with his front paws resting on the stone floor before him. "Yeah, yeah. I know pal." The large man offered with another deep laugh. "Breakfast is comin up my friend." Alec offered as he set out a pair of plates for himself and Humphrey to enjoy. Once the pair had finished water Alec stood up and placed the dishes in the sink. That was another nice thing about this world he thought to himself. No dishes!! You just placed them in the sink and when you turned around they were clean and gone. If only the real world were that easy Alec thought to himself as he left the kitchen and made his way across the living room with Humphrey softly padding behind him.

As the pair entered the living room Alec looked to his friend Humphrey with Avery grin and a glimmer in his eyes. "So pal. What d'ya say? I wanna find some trouble today. You in?" Alec asked as his grim spread even farther across his face. The American black bear cub responded by lumbering up onto his hind legs and pawing at the air in front of himself as if shadow boxing with an invisible opponent. The large heavily muscled man responded with a loud and boisterous rumbling peel of laughter. "That's what I thought." Alec replied as he clapped the bear cub on the back and wrapped him into a large rough bear hug and began wrestling the young bear. "So." Alec began in his deep baritone rumble. "I was thinking. Let's go check out the second floor. I heard there's supposed to be another dragon hatchling like the one we took on on the First Floor." The large man offered with a raised eyebrow before stopping suddenly and grasping his head as another wave of Deja Vu over took him.

What the heck was happening to him today? The large man thought to himself as the wave of Deja Vu inducing vertigo receded once more. He has never experienced anything like this before and to tell you the truth it was a little concerning and disconcerting he thought to himself as he straighted up and looked to his friend and companion. "That was really weird." Alec announced out loud as he looked down to his familiar Humphrey. "I sure hope this goes away!" Alec stated firmly as he turned and walked towards the front door if his house. "Come on pal. Let's go find a lil dragon and kick it's scaly butt!" The heavily muscled man announced with conviction as he made his way to the door of his cabin and the snow covered floor beyond. As Alec reached the door he grasped the door knob on a massive and powerful fist twisting it to open the door and letting in a refreshingly cold blast of cold air. Alec stepped thought door and took a deep lungful of the cold clean air letting a broad smile spread across his face at the way the air chilled his lungs and prickled his flesh. Yes!! Today was going to be one heck of a day!! The large man thought to himself as he closed the door to his house and began striding across the snow covered floor.

As Alec made his way through the snow covered terrain of the the Fourth Floor of Aincrad where he made his home the large man reached out with an index finger and swiped downward quickly opening up his inventory and allowing him to peruse the expanding list not items contained within it. As the large man quickly scrolled through the items he quickly selected the items he wanted. The heavily muscled man's first item was if course his heavy armor as he equipped his Vanquisher Shoulder Armor. Next he deftly stabbed his finger at the icon for his shield and watched as the air around his forearm began to shimmer as his shield Mirrors Embrace appeared securely strapped to his forearm. Next in line the large man flipped through his items till he came to his current weapon of choice as he selected his Forearm Axe the heavily muscled man watched as the air around his other forearm shimmered and wavered before his double crescent blades appeared secured to opposite arm.

Finally Alec flicked through the list I'll get came to his cherished Luck Stone which he selected to hold a spot in his Battle Ready Items list. Having chosen and equipped all the equipment he wanted the large man stabbed a button icon closing his inventory as he continued walking giving both his arms experimental swings reacquainting himself with their feel and weights as it seemed like months since he'd worn them last. How long had it been he thought to himself drawing a blank spot in his memory. Gods he hoped it hadn't been as long as it felt he thought to himself as he stride purposefully through the drifts of soft fresh new snow. As the large man made his way through the snow covered floor a smile of determination took hold of his stern features as he spotted the wooden log walls of the village that serverd as the main settlement here on the Fourth Floor.

Alec strode through the Hamlet of Snowfrost, the main settlement of the Fourth Floor, headed to the center of town where the teleportation pad was located. The large heavily muscled man enjoyed the sights and smells of the tiny rustic village. The buildings were small and low slung made from stone and wood. Wood fires could be smelled burning along with the scent of various meats roasting over open fires. Those coupled with the crisp clean bite of the cold air brought a contented genuine smile to the large man's normally stern features and perpetual scowl. As Alec strode happily through the town his faithful companion and friend Humphrey followed sniffing at various smells and letting out happy growling sounds as he followed the large man who was his friend and family. As the large man reached the teleportation pad he took two large steps up the stairs and strode to the center of the pad where in a deep baritone rumble the large man said the word "Urbus".

Everything went dark and as the light returned Alec found himself standing on the teleportation pad in the center of a small midevile looking town resting in the heart of a small crater. Alec quickly glanced around himself as he stride purposefully off the teleportation pad and descended the stairs. Without a second thought the large heavily muscled man set off at a long strided pass headed for the gates that led out of the small town and to the path that led to the lip of the crater and rugged mountainous wooden terrain beyond. After all Alec thought to himself with a hard grin he had a dragon to slay and it was waiting for him out there. Alec strode along the cobblestone roadways without a second look for the non player characters around him. They weren't real after all so why give them a second or even first glance; they were fluff, filler window dressing and Alec had no use or need for any of them.

  • 2 weeks later...

Alec strode purposefully through the narrow streets of Urbus headed for the main gate that lead to the path which would take him up the craters edge and lead the large heavily muscled man into the rough rocky forested terrain of the Second Floors wild open zone. As the large man passed through the gates of the village it was as if passing through an invisible membrane. As happened every time Alec felt a weight lift from his broad shoulders and a lightening in his steps as he exited the town and entered the open areas of the Aincrad's wilds. It didn't matter the floor the effect was always the same. While stuck inside the villages safe zone walls he felt trapped and compressed by the press of bodies, real or imagined. But once he stepped beyond the walls he felt free and with room to move. Alec took several deep lung fulls of fresh air as he stepped forward and made his way up the narrow dirt path to crest the lip of the crater and began his search for the dragon hatchling said to have appeared recently on this floor.

"Zero serving zero." The large man mumbled under his breath as a smile crept onto his face softening his perpetual scowl and stern visage at a pleasant thought. Wait.....what?? The large man thought to himself with a shake of his head clearing the soft fog that had set in. Where the heck had that come from? Tennis?? Alec thought to himself. He didn't have anything against tennis but he'd never played tennis before in his life. Though a fleeting memory flitted at the corners of his memory that flickered and started away before Alec could grasp it off playing a game with a young unnamed woman. Alec forcefully shook his head to clear the unbidden image and stray thought from his mind. He didn't even know the girl from the image. What the heck was happening to him the large man thought to himself as he stepped off with a deep unbridled need to find this dragon hatchling and dispose of it. For some reason Alec knew if he could do that he could put this odd sense of Deja Vu behind him once and for all.

Alec continued to walk through the rugged rocky landscape of the Second Floor. The lush green foliage of the forests trees was broken by the full gray of stone and rock formations breaking free of the ground and firming small hills and outcroppings. Alec let the faintest glimmer of a smile momentarily play across his stern features if it weren't for the lack of snow here and the abundance not snow on his home floor he could see himself band Humphrey settling down here. It was rugged and remote just like he liked but it wasn't quite good enough. That was the biting cold of the Fourth Floor that called to him as he thought about his cabin carved out of the mountain. As the large man wandered lost in thought he stopped suddenly as he entered an odd clearing with a faint light playing across the clearing, perched on the center of the clearing was a small quartz colored baby dragon.

The heavily muscled Tank rolled his shoulders lumbering up his muscles and joints as he stepped into the clearing to face his foe. "So Kat....." The large heavily muscled Tank stopped short suddenly. Kat?...... Who was Kat the large man thought to himself. He knew a Kit. Heck he knew a Kirbs. But for the life of him as the large man racked his brain he couldn't think of any Kat that he knew of. Alec growled forcefully to himself and gave his head a violent shake to clear it of the fog that once more threatened to cloud his mind and his memory. First the uncontrolled rage he had suffered from and now phantom names and images. Perhaps he was too old for this and his aged mind couldn't handle the stresses placed upon it by this virtual world. He'd have to look up Kirbs when he got done with this quest and ask her she was savvy on these sorts of subjects he was pretty sure. That or maybe senility was setting in soon to be followed by dementia and an inevitable crack in his sanity. Maybe Kirbs wasn't the way to go she had a lot of her own junk in her plate, no he was a grown man he'd figure this out on his own he thought as he raised his shield Mirror's Embrace up before himself and stepped further into the clearing.

  • 4 months later...

The heavily muscled lumbering mountain of a man stepped forward into the clearing within the forest, his mirror reflective shield held before him as his arm with his battle axe affixed firmly to his forearm hung loosely by his side. As the oversized man approached the tiny quartz like glimmering Dragon Hatchling Alec gritted his teeth as he steadily stepped one foot forward before the other making his way cautiously toward his opponent. As the Large man reached the tiny hatchling it rocketed into the air as if shot from a cannon. The tiny gem like creature hovered in the air at about chest level as Alec narrowed his eyes and tightened his fists drawing his large muscular arm back swinging it around in a heavy hook aiming for the tiny gem like dragon. As Alec swung his arm around in a mighty blow the large man stepped onto a pebble causing his booted foot to fly out from under him sending him into a pinwheel fall that left him lying on his back staring up at the tiny gem dragon as it darted into the spot he had just vacated missing its attack at the large man.

The large man once more lay flat upon his back looking up another computer generated monster. With a heavy sigh the large man placed his powerful hands upon the ground and pushed himself into a sitting position before gathering his tree trunk like legs beneath himself and raising to his feet. Alec shook his head as he ran the palms of his now dirty hands over the hairless dome of his head. He was must be getting too old for this, or maybe the game took into account his actual age and was factoring that into its algo-thingies and that’s why he kept missing. Who knew. Certainly not himself, that was sure he wasn’t a tech guy. That was Danny. At the thought of his son Alec raised his shield and weapon up again. Alec reached out and tried to access the games energy to power a Sword Art causing his attack to slow as the energy flowed away from his grip leaving him empty and missing his attack which left a gap open for the hatchling to swoop in striking the large man. As its claws raked his exposed flesh they left a tiny scratch and nothing more.

As his slowed swing missed its tiny mark the Hatchling swooped in and grazed the skin of his exposed arm leaving a tiny scratch on his skin that instantly sealed due to the large mans increased Battle Healing. Alec gritted his teeth as he reset his feet and readied to attack his tiny target again. The heavily muscled man felt the power levels within himself swelling as he activated his Sword Art Undertone. Once the energies had reached their peak the large man crouched down dropping his shoulder before swinging up in a massive upper cut that left a huge gaping red wound in the tiny hatchling as red pixels flooded from the wound the tiny creature let out an ear piercing screech of pain and anger as it reeled back flapping its wings to gain distance from the large beast of a man flailing out with a tiny claw more defensively than anything as it tried to distance itself from the heavily muscled man who now stalked toward the tiny dragon.

The tiny Draconic Hatchling flapped backwards screeching in pain and rage as the monstrous man stalked towards it. Why couldn’t this enormous brute leave it alone? Zylara thought to itself. She had done nothing to provoke this attack and had only been enjoying the sun warming her glittering scales in her clearing when this monstrous person had stormed in and began mercilessly beating her with his razor sharp claws attached to his arms. WHY?!?! Zylara acted in fear and defense throwing a mass of twigs and brambles in front of the gigantic man stalking after her. The twigs and thorns grabbed at the large mans legs and arms as he swung his deadly round weapon at her missing her thankfully as she flitted about trying to remain out of the giants reach. Zylara swooped in and once more raked the beasts exposed skin leaving little more than a scratch. He appeared to be a soft skin but his skin seemed hard as stone to the tiny dragon.

Tiny brambles like a raspberry bush sprung up before Alec as stalked after the tiny Dragon Hatchling that flitted away from him as he approached. Once the heavily muscled man had finished wading through the thicket and reached the tiny dragon he brought his fore arm axe back behind himself and low bending at the knees preparing for another swing another bramble of twigs and thorns popped up around him as he readied his swing. The thorns bit and gouged his flesh distracting him but not enough to miss the well timed swing that nearly clove the tiny winged creature in two. The hatchling lashed out in desperation scratching him once more as Alec swung his razor sharp shield around and sliced cleanly through the tiny dragon causing its two halves to waver and shake before exploding into twin showers of red pixels that rained down twinkling and sparkling in the filtered sunlight on the clearing.

Alec took a deep calming breath and slowly exhaled as he let the tension and tighness in his shoulders and arms relax as he lowered his arms and began to allow himself to relax. As the tiny quartz Dragon Hatchling exploded into twin showers of red pixels that drifted towards the ground glinting and twinkling in the sunlight of the clearing Alec spotted a shimmer of light from the vicinity of the nest the tiny dragon had been laying in when Alec had arrived. Alec walked over to the nest and spotted a tiny Quartz crystal laying nestled in the nest of the Dragon Hatchling. Slowly the large man reached out and gently grasped the figurine and lifting it delicately from the nest before raising the crystal to his face to observe it better turning it around in his large calloused hands inspecting it before placing the new items into his inventory and turning to leave the clearing. “Come on Humphrey”. The large man called out to his Bear cub familiar lets go home. “This fight felt like it took forever bud and I could use a good long nap”. The large man said with a smile as he reached down and scratched the bear cub behind the ears.
