<<Secret Medicine Of The Forest>>

This quest takes place on Floor 1
This quest is not repeatable

On the first floor, the player is given a quest that introduces them to 'Field Bosses'. The quest states that a small village is in need of a medicine, <Little Nepent's Ovule>, which is dropped by a special variant of the mob, Nepent. The players who partake in the quest must slay normal Nepents until a 'Variant Nepent' spawns. The Nepents spawn in the wooded area on floor 1.

The nepents stand at around a meter and a half tall. Its lower body consists mostly of countless roots that it uses to move around. It has two arm-like vines with pointed leaves attached to either side of its body, just above the roots. The center of its head holds a wide red mouth with viscous liquids dribbling out of it as it opens and shuts.

The variant has a red bulb on top of it's 'head' which reveals to be a giant red flower. Or it's decorated with fruit. Either way, it's the same as its counterpart in shape, size, and strength.

Completion Requirements:

- 20 Posts Minimum.
-Must defeat 2 Nepents per player.
- Nepent Variant must be defeated.

Damage: 3

2 Nepents spawn for each player in the participating party.

Nepent Variant Information:
Nepent Variant is a Quest Boss and has the following statistics:

HP: 15
Mitigation: 5
Damage: 10
Nepent Variant ignores armor mitigation on a natural roll of 10

Drops the quest item <Nepent's Ovule> on an LD roll of 12 or higher, failure will have you fight the normal Nepents again until another Variant spawns. This loot roll must be separate from the attack roll that defeats it. Failure to find the <Nepent's Ovule> will result in the players having to fight the Normal Nepents again, to draw out an additional Variant Nepent.

Zuekin as clad in his usual skin tight shirt and pants since he had just got done with his morning workout, even though his body didn't change with lack of exercise in this world he still enjoyed a good workout and now he was looking at a bulletin board in the town of beginnings on the first floor. He was looking for any posts on players offering escort through a forest outside of town it was supposed to spawn higher level monsters but there was a quest that rewarded a decent amount of experience he wanted to get done so he could keep his promise to calrex and become the strongest in aincrad. 'hmm, I really need to find someone to watch my back out there or I'll never get this quest done' zuekin was deep in thought about what to do so much so that he didn't notice the person walking by as he stepped backwards and bumped into them. Once he felt the contact he spun around and quickly seen who he had bumped into it was a shorter orange haired girl "oh I'm sorry miss I didn't mean to run into you" he said looking down at her concerned he might have hurt her.

I was walking around on the first floor again, getting some new supplies from the shops around here was maybe the best way to get my inventory filled for sure. I was heading to a teleporter to get to floor 5 and see what was going on there. I was planning to see if anyone there needed help and I stopped dead in my tracks. Looking into a window I started to stare at the baked food in there. As soon as I did my stomach started growling. Yeah Yeah, grumpy, I get it you are getting hungry again, alright this once, I thought patting my stomach entering the shop and leaving with a small wrapping box holding it in my hand.

As I was walking I walked passed the bulletin board and look ahead as I was walking. Then out of nowhere a guy bumped into me. Lucky for me, I got most of his body against my chest and didn't lose my balance at all, altho my silver shoulder plates made some noise as they collided with my glaive. I did get a bit red on the face as he turned as he did bump into my chest there. He turned around saying he was sorry. Still being red I spoke up, "Um... Yeah, No worry. I'm used to people not seeing me." Looking him up and down I smile as my face became less red already, "You look like you need help in something, What can I do?" I said being straight to the point as he did stand near the bulletin board and seemed to in need of something.

Zuekin noticed her face was a little red when he looked at her he felt bad she was embarrassed that he had bumped into her. He was just about to apologize again when she spoke saying it was alright that most people don't notice her. "I find that hard to believe" he said trying to break the tension looking at her hair but quickly realized what he had said and added "I mean your hair... It's very um vibrant" sighing internally that was a close one last thing he wanted was to make this exchange anymore awkward. He was just about to walk away when she asked if he was in need of help 'of course this is my luck the first person I find to help and this is how he meets them' sighing again he looks back at her "well I am looking for someone to watch my back while I do a quest" he said giving her a once over she looked like she could handle herself he thought taking not of the glaive on her back "thats a nice weapon you have there you look like you can do some damage with it would you like to help me I dont have much in the way of payment but I'm sure we can come to some sort of agreement."

I did not really pay attention to his comment about it being hard to believe I did not really notice my people, As he already corrected himself. "Ooh, Didn't know my hair was that standing out here, but I can say not many people with orange hair walk around in Japan so I guess your right then," I said adjusting my goggles on my head a bit to make sure they didn't slide down my head. Hearing upon his request I nodded, "Ooh I can do that No problem as all." Saying that I looked down at my bag I was still holding with inside a sandwich I was planning to eat. Well guess you can wait right, I help him and then I get to you, I thought looking at the bag. Looking over her shoulder a bit to look at her glaive she smiled, "Yeah Got it right at the start, Never used any other weapon." I said to him tapping with on finger on the blade. Hearing him say about a payment I shook my head, "No No No, I don't need payment. Just see this as me helping you out for my own experience as well, never really teamed up with anyone in my entire life," I said to him holding out my free hand, "Guess names are at order now, Shior Kikenna, or Azhoda. Whatever is your taste. Nice to meet you," I said to him waiting for a handshake, and if he did so he would notice that I did have a strong handshake compared to my look.

"Your from Japan too that's cool, but then again ninety percent of this worlds player base is going to be from Japan so I shouldn't be to surprised" he said with a small laugh then he heard her decline his offer of paying her "ok iguess experience is the best form of currency here when you think about it but still I fell like I'm taking advantage of your kindness" he said and for a moment he thought of anything he could give her. And then it hit him "ahh I know, how about this since your helping me with this for free you get an IOU, anytime you need help with something just message me doesnt matter how big or small the task is I'll be there sound good" he said sending her a friend request "just PM me when you want to cash in ok" after he finished that zuekin gave her a firm handshake taking note that she had a strong grip "by the way my name is Zuekin Hakamoto disciple of the great Mitsuki Hakamoto and future master at the Hakamoto Martial Arts dojo" he said proudly pointing a thumb at himself. After introductions were done he decided it would be best to start heading to the village so he could get this quest started "so first we need to go to some village located in the forest about an hour away so we will be doing a bit of walking so let's get started" he said as he started to walk to the gates that lead oit of town and form there to the small village.

Listening to his words as he introduced himself as well as I accepted the friend request from him he name showed up, Shaking his hand with a smile and nodded. "It's a pleasure Zuekin-san," I said to him hearing his family seemed to have a dojo I smile Even if I didn't do to one I still respected them as told by a co-worker who goes to one. All I did was more reaction training and guess some arm and flight training. Hearing he needed to check out a village I knew right away what quest he was going to do, "Secret Medicine, Done that one! a pretty good share of experience for sure. A few people inside the village give you this quest, but its the best to speak with the elder, Maybe I can see his reaction from him if he sees me again," I said kind of wondering what the NPC will think if he saw me again after I helped them before. Speaking of Elder, I thought of something to speak about while walking, I looked at Zuekin and spoke up "So Zuekin, If I may ask you something. You mentioned having a Dojo, What kind of job did you do if I may ask because you look quite strong," I said not even really noticing most guys would see that as a compliment.

When she added san to his name zuekin mentally choked he knew she meant it out of respect hell every new Gakusei (student) that started learning at the dojo did the same thing since he taught some of them but he never liked it he preferred them to just call him zuekin mainly because it made him feel old. "You can just call me zuekin there's no need to be so formal" he said rubbing the back of his hoping that she wouldnt persist with it. "So you know the quest well if you want to you can talk to the elder and I'll just accept the quest I'm not one for dialogue unles they can hold up a conversation." As they walked outside of the gate Azhoda asked him about the dojo and what he did there he smiled he always liked telling people aboit the dojo "well first off I dont own the dojo that honor go's to my adoptive mother shes the master or mistress whichever you prefer, but I do" he stopped mid sentence with pained look on his face remembering that he was stuck here he sighed deeply before continuing "I did have the privilege of teaching a few disciples of my own,  also cleaned the dojo after training was done for the day to keep myself humble" he said with a smile.

Listening to him as he spoke I nodded my head, I picked up a few things from that sentence and smiled. So he is adopted by a mistress of a dojo, where he did some training with people who came there, I thought, holding my hand to my chin. I kind fo wanted to know where, as one of my co-workers went to a dojo. "Alright, so I see. another question," I said looking at him, "Where did you teach, I mean like city, maybe I know the place or at least seen it maybe, If you want you can ask me something as well soon," I said as I came from Tokyo and lived there my entire life and still do. I would be something if he did, still, Tokyo was a big place with multiple cities as one. I kind looked him up and down, just to see a bit how old he was, and from what I could see he was maybe around the same age as me, maybe younger or older I don't know.

"Oh you want to where the dojo was located hmm" he said trying to remember which district they were on the outskirts of "well I'd have to say we were on the outlying parts of the Nerima district, when we get out of this place your more than welcome to come check it out I'm always taking on new students" he said with a warm smile "but if your looking for something sooner I'm willing to teach you while we are here if your interested that is, I do plan to open a dojo if I can find a way to get one" after he said that he waited for her to respond while they continued walking to their destination. After she answered he would also add "You know its funny my master always said I'm far to mature for my age but she also hits me on the head for being to battle crazy" he said with a chuckle "I mean I'm only twenty-four what does she expect of course I'm going to want to fight ive always loved to" as he finished they crested a small hill and the forest came into view it looked to be another fifteen minute walk and then from there about another half hour till they reached the village from what he had heard about it.

Listening to Zuekin got me thinking, If he was around the Nerima district that means he would be not that far away. "Nerima, Nerima... Umm... Chōfu to Nerima... about a short hour and 30 minutes away from my workplace, I take about 30 minutes to get to work if I even am at home, think not. So..." I said all this out loud while holding my hand to my chin as I looked up to Zuekin. " You don't live far away I guess, maybe about 2 hours with the train and quite a bit less with a car. As I'm from the Chōfu district," I said to him as I kind of showed up my smarts of with this small explanation. "But no, I have no need for it, I'll keep with my 'pilot' training, Need to keep my reflexes and endurance at check as well for some arm training," I said to him.

Hearing he was more mature then his age I looked him up and down and tilted my head, He didn't seem much older than me, maybe in the way he acted. As he then said he was just twenty-four I looked up this was the first I heard of being at least the same age as myself, "Wow, I know what you mean, To keep fighting and dreaming for what you love, But my old professor said the complete the other thing about me, that I had to grow up and live in the real world instead of caching my dreams for the thing I fight for as It was not possible to get. But I must say I got there but still have a long way to go." I said to him as it almost looked like you had Zuekin the Brawn and me being the Brain, or the Brain and Brawn.

"Oh so you live in Chofu ive been to Nogawa park there its quite a pleasant location for meditation" he said remembering the time he went there he also rememberred there was this amazing noodle stand right outside of the park which in turn made his stomach growl 'oh what I wouldn't give for some of that again' he thought as he turned towards Azhoda remembering that he wasnt alone "sorry about that was thinking about food guess I'm kinda hungry" he laughed rubing the back of his head "if you want after this quest would you like to see if there is any places to eat at the village" he said while she continued on about not needing it for her pilot training "oh so your a pilot that's cool what do you fly" he waited for an answer she said some stuff about dreams and how her proffeser said she should have given up "it's good to have dreams it gives you something to strive towards, I'm sorry to hear that your proffeser didnt support you but if its any consolation I bet you'll be an amazing pilot" he said giving her a thumbs up.

"hehe, your not alone, I got hungry too, but its the first time my stomach did not growl yet," I said with a joking smile turning my attention back to the conversation. It seems like I made a small miscommunication and smiled. "Ooh No, no I'm just learning how to pilot from a friend who flies it, I'm just the one who made the plane. And its a glider. It has been flying over Chofu and even over Nogawa Park. So Yeah, No I'm the engineer." I said to him pointing at my goggles "Welding goggles a bit," I said with a smile before going back to walking. Getting a bit of hunger now as well I looked at my stomach and held it, "I have food so um do you mind if I eat it because of kind of need after my training, As um... It's going to sound weird, but 3 days." I said holding up the bag I was holding still in one hand making clear that in this bag was some food I got from a store on Floor one in the town of beginners.

"Oh, I see" he said with a smile as she explained that she was just an engineer that built a glider not a plane and that she was learning how to fly it. "Even so I bet it's pretty cool I wonder if you could do something like that here" he said pondering on the idea of being able to fly in aincrad "you know like build a glider here I mean, there are a lot of real world mechanics that are in this world like gravity and weather so it could be possible" he was getting pumped up just thinking about it "oh man it would be so cool if it could work just thinking about it is getting me excited" his train of thought was broken when she asked if it was alright for her to go ahead and eat "yeah sure go ahead it's rude to stand in the way of a lady and her food" he said with a laugh but then a light bulb went off in his head as he opened his inventory looking for an item he had stored a couple days ago when he found out that he could store tea that he brew to keep it fresh and warm almost indefinitely. When he found one he pulled it out it was in a simple wooden cup with a bit of steam coming off the top "here" he said offering her the cup "don't worry its just tea I learned how to make it early on unfortunately since I dont have a cooking skill it wont give you any buffs but that doesn't stop it from tasting amazing" he said with a warm smile.

I opened the bag and took out a paper-wrapped sandwich, It was quite big and fully packed with things inside it. "Thanks then," I said taking off the paper from the sandwich and taking a big out of it like a hungry wolf. All my ladylike looks disappeared as soon as I took a bite and I turned into some monster eating away at the food. I Looked up at Zuekin as he said something, A bit of sauce got on my cheek and I turned to him. "Ooh that is nice, I could use some tea Thank you Zuekin," I said to him accepting the cup as I held my half-eaten sandwich in one hand. Taking sips from the tea and yet another bite from my sandwich I turned to him with a full mouth. "Its immptrot to knw he," I stopped as I notice what I did. Emptying my mouth I spoke again, "It's important to know that the mechanics of this world and our world are completely different, yes while they have golems and other things, they don't have your basic wrench or bolts what kind of is needed to make a glider. Sure you could make an item but that would probably break the system or not work at all," I Said knowing well, that their needs to be a system to make something that can't be made. A glider is just that item that can't be made as there was no mechanic for flying in this game.

"Your welcome don't mention it" he said as she thanked him for letting her go ahead and eat. While she chowed down on her food zuekin just kept walking he did notice however that she wasnt the most graceful eater but that didn't disgust him heck he thought it was funny because he was the same way sometimes 'so that's what I look like when I eat after a long day of training' he thought. When she spoke up again he turned to listen as she explained the game mechanics in more detail and how a glider wouldn't work in aincrad "well I guess that does make sense, but to be completely honest I'm not too familiar with games this was actually my first time playing one" he said with a small laugh trying to play it off as funny. When he finished talking he noticed she had made a little mess on her face while eating her food "looks like your enjoying that sandwich a little too much" he joked as he pulled out a handkerchief from his inventory and handed it to her. At this point they had gotten fairly close to the village and they started to follow a path that was dimly lit by candle lamp posts as they entered town he noticed that there where was barely anybody out except the occasional guard "well we're here you said youve done this quest before so I'll let you lead the way to the elder and then I'll accept the quest"

It was clear that Zuekin did not play many games at all, to be honest, this is probably my first game in years. "Your not alone Zuekin, I have not played games for like five years or longer. But I just read up on some of the books made by players and tried to see if NPC's could tell something," I said to him as he handed over a handkerchief. "Ooh hehe~, um thank... Sorry, you had to see that," I said and cleaned my face before finishing my sandwich with a smile. Better to help someone on a full stomach than on an empty, don't want the same thing happening like last time where I fell unconscious in the middle of the field. clearing my thoughts I looked around at the path and lamps, This game sometimes really looked quite nice and I could not lie that sometimes I wished I wanted to stay here. When Zuekin mentions that we were getting close again I Nodded, "Alright, he should stick out for sure, like easy, I think he was the only old man standing outside of a church," I said hoping to see the village soon.

'he should stick out she says I guess that wont be to hard given the fact that there's barely anyone out' he thought as he scanned the streets for anyone that looked like they were up in age. After a couple of minutes of searching they happened upon a small church with an older man out front talking to a pair of guards he seemed to be in a heated discussion "what do you mean you won't get the medicine I'm sure you can spare at least a few..." The old man stopped talking when he noticed Zuekin and Azhoda he quickly pushed past the guards and ad his way over to them. The guards took this chance to scurry off down the street to avoid the Elder. "you there can you two please help me I need someone to go gather a particular medicine that can only be obtained from killing a rare nepent that lives outside of town, none of the guards will go out they say it's too dangerous but we desperately need that medicine some of the townfolks children have fallen ill and if they don't get that medicine they will die" the man was practically on his knees begging them to help "calm down sir, don't worry I'll help you" zuekin said in a calm reassuring tone while he helped the man to his feet "I'll get those kids that medicine if it's the last thing I do" as he spoke a notification popped up asking him if he wanted to accept this quest, without a second thought he mashed the accept icon. "Oh thank you so much id almost lost hope the creature should be north of the village" sure enough when he opened his map there was a marker over a clearing in the forest not too far north of town "no thanks are needed im just glad to help, come on azhoda lets go I'm ready to take this mob out" turning towards the marker he set off.

Following just behind, I notice that what I did with this quest went to waste only seeing no impact of what I did. Well guess not everything can't be helped, but still, it seemed like a good effect on the players themself. As Zuekin was talking to the elder I looked behind him at the elder and gave a friendly wave to him not saying much more than that. When we walked away I could not help myself to sigh, "Dangerous... HA! really these things dangerous, I would love to believe that but I do not, I one-shotted them all with a single attack. Well can't blame them I'm like level 20 when I did this," I said to Zuekin with a smile as I opened my menu to look at my stats and highest damage dealt. 110 was the highest damage I dealt over this full time of the game and It would become more and more, over time. Last time I can remember I was around here there was quite a thick mist around really not helping me in the fight against the nepents. hopefully this time there would be no mist at all.

"oh your over level 20 thats pretty cool I'm only level 4 its not that impressive but I'm working on leveling up" he said clenching his fist in frustration that it was taking so long to get strong enough to keep his word "I'm currently trying to get to the frontlines as soon as possible so I can keep a promise I made" as he finished speaking he walked into a clearing that had two oversized plants moving around in it "but thats a conversation for another time, for now I'm going to pummel these plants into mulch" with that he ran up to the closest of the nepents and slammed his fist into what he believed was its abdomen, as soon as his fist connected though they were on him the one he hit used its roots to knock his feet out from under him and then used its vines to pelt his chest while the other one brought it's vine down slamming him into the ground knocking the wind out of him 'man these guy's pack a punch' e thought looking up at his health bar he noticed it didn't move much then he looked at theirs 'hmm looks like my thorns didnt activate and neither did my regen but it also seems that they can't get over my defense' at this point he stood up and took a second to brush himself off "welp it looks like you guys aren't going to be much of a fight and I was worried ha I hope your boss will be more fun than this will be" he said with a grin as he took a low stance to prevent getting his feet knocked out again and waited for them to strike.

It took not long, last time I was here there was one big fog that drifted in. It made fighting these things even for me a bit annoying. "Well let's hope you're better of then me, It's sad that I can't kill them, it will not help you in this quest if I did," I said to him looking over to some of the nepents in the distance. It took not long before Zuekin went into combat and as soon as he jumped to attacked I yelled at him, "Good luck Zuekin, I'll make sure nothing else attacks us," I said to him as he went in for the attack. But with that attack, I kind of felt like he did not do much damage at all. I could have killed them with a basic attack but he seemed to have not that strong of a basic attack. The moment the Nepents attacked moving him to the ground I wanted to attack as well, but I held myself back, "Gods be careful Zuekin.... ouch," I said as he seemed to get back up. To speak the truth I was kind of hoping this quest was not in the way as I wanted to help him really badly, never leave anyone unprotected again. It was clear you could see me hesitate to jump in every time the monsters moved.
