To say that Oscar had a bit of a death wish was definitely understating things. Indeed, Oscar enjoyed the thrill of taking on bosses by his lonesome with no safety net. Well, a limited safety net. But Oscar would be damned if he'd use this Teleportation Crystal anytime soon. One boss in particular called to him today. After defeating the Night's King, there was another King who was on his Regicidal list. The Lich King. Oscar teleported up to Floor 14. As usual, the depressing landscape set upon him like the plague. Thankfully, Oscar had no intention of being here for very long. He scarfed down a Focused Chili Dog to increase his Accuracy and Damage and then coupled that with a Hearty Dog to boost up his mitigation. Not that it would matter too much. This boss hit like a truck, or so he'd heard. The icing on the cake was his final Edge Shard to boost his damage just a bit more.

The quest location wasn't very far away from the main town. It didn't take very long before Oscar was standing before the boss arena. He could see the lich sitting upon its throne, gazing imperiously out in the distance. Oscar knew if he took one step into the arena, it would be on like Donkey Kong. With a confident smile, he strode into the arena and readied his axe. The Lich King's eyes snapped to him. It rose from its throne and drew its blade. At that moment, four more undead enemies manifested, brought to life by the Lich's necromantic powers. Oscar's axe surged with the deep violet light as he rushed forward and dispatched the lot of them with a single Ordinal Cleave. Three of the undead enemies exploded with a fiery white radiance in response to the killing blow, the Holy Enhancement on his weapon activating. Now, it was just Oscar and the Lich. Enraged by the death of its minions, the Lich King rushed forward. Oscar ducked the blow and wheeled around, ready to counterattack on his next turn.

With the Lich King's back to him, Oscar had the perfect opportunity to strike. He rushed forward and activated his Screw Dimension Sword Art. He sliced through the creature's back and then sent it flying with a burst of force. But the Lich wasn't one to be outdone. It quickly recovered and rushed forward at blinding speed. Before Oscar could react, he found the Lich King's blade buried in his chest. White-hot pain seared through his body as the spiked blade rested in his sternum. With a wicked laugh, the Lich King yanked his weapon out of Oscar's body. Oscar fell to his knees and gasped for breath, the pain paralyzing. The Lich King raised its sword over its head its wicked laughter filling the air. Then, it brought its blade down towards the nape of Oscar's exposed neck. Is this it then? Oscar thought. Paralyzed with pain and unable to act, Oscar could do nothing but watch as the blade sailed downward through the air.

A loud clang filled the air. Oscar had snapped out of it just in the nick of time. Quick as a flash, knocked the sword away with his axe. Instead of removing his head, the Lich King's blade buried itself in the ground in front of him. He staggered to his feet, holding the red gash in his chest with one hand and raising his axe with the other. Oscar brought his blade down, glowing with an ethereal light, and carved the Lich King in two. The Lich King burst into white flames and faded to ash. But before it did, it managed to summon two more minions. Oscar got ready to fight them but they quickly turned on one another. One of them minions destroyed the other, giving Oscar a much-needed reprieve from combat. He would deal with it next turn and then make a hasty retreat from this place. This fight was a little too close for comfort.

Shambling Soldier4 0/100 HP | 140 DMG

A quick Ordinal Cleave dispatched the Shambling Soldier. With that done, Oscar turned on his heels and headed back to the main settlement. He took great care to avoid any enemies on his way back to town. It simply wouldn't do for him to get jumped and die after experiencing such a great victory. But, finally, he made it. He really disliked this floor, for obvious reasons. It was time to retire to more familiar locales and leave this depressing land behind him. Oscar dialed in his desired location and then disappeared in a flash of white light. Moments later, he was stepping off the platform in Deepedge. The cool mountain air was very much what the doctor ordered and improved his mood almost immediately. He sat down on a bench and decided to wait out his health regeneration for just a bit. He wasn't used to being this low and definitely didn't like it.

Oscar had a choice to make. He could either wander around the town of Deepedge for a bit while his health ticked up. Or, he could throw caution to the wind and go hang out at one of his favorite spots on the floor. The choice was, honestly, quite obvious. Oscar passed through the town almost daily on his way home. He very rarely had went out of his way to find himself some seclusion and isolation amidst the rocky crags of the mountainous Floor Seven. So, without a care in the world and despite his low health, Oscar strode calmly out of the front gates of the town and headed up into the mountains. He made his way through the winding paths carved into the sheer cliffs undaunted. He knew that one misstep would mean the end for him. But he didn't let that stop him. Unlike in real life, the path didn't shift under his feet so there was no danger of slipping off into the abyss.

He soon arrived at his destination. The meandering path led up and up. He ascended higher and eventually found himself at the top of a plateau. At the edge of the cliff, there was a single tree that stood strong and resolute against the intense wind atop the plateau. On the other end, there was a group of golems that were currently inactive. No one had drawn their ire, so they stood still and silent, like resolute guardians against the skyline. This was Oscar's favorite spot for multiple reasons. First, he could rest under the shade of the tree without drawing attention from the golems. And second, if he took a notion to get some grinding done, well there were four enemies conveniently placed next to his relaxation spot. And Oscar prepared to do just that. With his buffs from the fight with the Lich active, all he needed was a Prosperity and a Loot buff to get going. He scarfed down two hot dogs and was ready to go.

Oscar came in hot. The blade of his axe gleamed in the sunlight as it trailed behind him. He opened with an Explode Catapult, aiming to deal as much damage to the Golems in the shortest amount of time possible. He was successful in hitting three of them, but the fourth proved to be just out of reach. No matter. Oscar danced in between their powerful blows, avoiding the mighty fists of the golems easily. Once their onslaught had concluded, Oscar hopped backwards towards his beloved tree. One attack had successfully knocked the three golems almost into the red. He didn't necessarily need to use another Explode Catapult next turn, considering that most of them were so close to death. Instead, he'd rely on a weaker art to deal some damage to the fourth and finish the other three off. It seemed like the most efficient plan.

Oscar dashed in once more. This time, he hadn't been so lucky at evading blows. The healthiest golem had managed to slam its fist into Oscar's side, sending him flying off towards the edge of the cliff. Oscar drove the blade of his axe into the ground to slow himself down. He was able to successfully come to a stop just before sailing off the edge. His feet dangled off the cliff, kicking the air in a vain effort to push himself forward. Oscar pulled himself back to solid ground by the handle of his axe and then took off after the golems again. This time, there wouldn't be anymore incoming attacks. Oscar swept his weapon around his body, activating his Ordinal Cleave Sword Art. Before the other three Golems had a chance to attack, they shattered like glass. Oscar quickly collected his loot and turned his attention to the remaining enemy.

Now the fight was a one-on-one. This one was a bit personal. This golem had actually almost managed to kill Oscar. If he'd been just a second slower with his reaction, Oscar was pretty sure his name would be carved into that fancy monument by now. The head of Oscar's axe glowed with a brilliant blue light as he activated his Screw Dimension Sword Art. Oscar swung his axe, hoping to dispatch the golem now before he opened himself up to another attack. The cliff was still at his back, so he'd need to be very careful. Unfortunately, he wasn't careful enough. Oscar misjudged the distance between himself and the golem, just barely missing the creature with his attack. Thankfully, the golem was also unable to land a blow. Its mighty fist sailed harmlessly over Oscar's head. Despite missing Oscar was able to breathe a slight sigh of relief.

This round was going to be the last. Oscar raised his axe aloft, the blade blazing with a sapphire radiance. Then, like an executioner, Oscar brought the axe down. His weapon carved a deep gash in the golem's hide. But it wasn't done there. No, Screw Dimension was a two-part Sword Art. Following the slice, a powerful burst of force radiated from the wound Oscar had carved into the creature. In a shower of dust and debris, the golem was dispatched. Oscar collected his loot and then retreated to the safety of his tree. Once there, he set his axe against the trunk and nestled himself into the roots. What better way was there to recover energy that to gaze out over a beautiful vista under the shade of a tree without a care in the world? Oscar could honestly think of a few better ways, but this was the one that was available to him right now.

Oscar didn't have anything in particular he wanted to ruminate over. So, he merely turned off his brain and enjoyed the sights. Sometimes a man just needed to hit the reset button on his brain to be able to get himself in the right frame of mind. Some people called it zen. Others called it meditation. Oscar just called it simple self care. Humans couldn't stress over everything all the time. Sometimes they had to just let it go. And Oscar did just that. As the wind howled over the top of the plateau, it carried with it Oscar's fears and worries. Oscar felt himself relax, almost melting into the roots of the tree. He was at the precipice of falling asleep. That state of half-consciousness where you have not a care in the world, but are still aware of what's going on around you. It was truly the most blissful state of being Oscar had the pleasure of experiencing.

Oscar couldn't let himself fall asleep, however. As much as he would have liked to doze out in the wilderness, he had things he needed to wrap up for the day. Namely, he wanted to do some more grinding before the sun went down. One more round would get him a fair amount of Col and materials, something he was sorely lacking right now. Plus, he had some dungeon maps burning a hole in his inventory. He at least wanted to use one of them to see what the dungeons were all about. But that would require him to go up to a higher floor. No problem, he thought. He had enough daylight to do everything he wanted to. All that he needed to do was wait just a bit longer for his energy to tick back up and then he was golden. With a yawn, Oscar rose from his spot and grabbed his axe. The golems had spawned back in, right in the nick of time.

Ready to go ahead and keep the adventure going, Oscar rushed in with an Explode Catapult. He landed heavy blows to all of the golems save for one. It wasn't a huge deal. Just a repetition of the last bunch of golems he'd fought. Oscar had the presence of mind to keep his back away from the edge of the cliff. A good thing too because one of the golems wound up and smacked him square in the chest. Oscar gasped as the air was forced from his lungs and he was sent flying backwards. He had more than enough space to land, roll, and come to a natural stop long before he came close to the edge. Thank goodness for forethought. He rubbed his aching chest as he rose to his feet and tried to catch his breath. Screw that golem in particular. He would make sure, if he didn't kill anything else, that that golem went down first next round.

Oscar rushed back in, his chest still throbbing from the blow. He swept his weapon around his body and delivered a powerful Ordinal Cleave Sword Art to the golems. Three of them shattered like glass and the remaining one completely whiffed its attack. This freed Oscar up to collect his loot and get some distance away from the golem before it wound up for a second strike. One more attack and this round of combat would be over. He was actually quite excited at the prospect of trying out a dungeon for the first time. He just wished that he had someone to share it with. Then again, though, he would have two dungeon maps remaining. So he would have two opportunities to bring someone along. To that end, he silently decided that he would only use the Beginner Map and save the harder ones for when he had a group with him.

A final Screw Dimension spelled the end of the last golem. The loot from this particular enemy was amazing indeed. It was just a shame that it was all tier one. But, perhaps he could get it identified to help out an up-and-coming player sometime. Anything for an excuse to go see Jackpot again. That kid was an odd one, to be sure. Operating out of a literal hole in the wall, it was a wonder the man ever got any business at all. But, then again, good merchants were hard to come by and people would seek them out, no matter where they were. The eccentricities were just something you had to put up with in the quest for epic loot. With his grinding session coming to a close, Oscar decided to stop by his house for a quick pit stop. Let his health regenerate a bit before heading up to Floor 11 for a fun dungeon crawl.

Oscar followed the meandering path down towards the base of the mountain. Once there, he made a hard right and headed out to the housing area of Floor Seven. It wasn't a long walk, but it was definitely a lot longer than Oscar would have liked. Especially being charged with anticipation of delving into a dungeon as he was. But, there was something rather important at his house that he wanted to take care of before heading out. While he walked, Oscar took the time to enjoy the scenery. Even though he saw it on the daily, he had a special place in his heart for the mountains. Soon enough, Oscar's manor loomed over the horizon. It rested at the top of the hill, resolute against the sun. Seeing home always brought about wonderful feelings of coziness. But Oscar wouldn't be formally arriving until later. His adventures weren't done. This was a pit stop and nothing more. Specifically, a pit stop to hit up his Mega Slime farm for a bit of a warm up before tackling a dungeon.

The slimes had finally regrown in his farm. The last time he had used this particular housing plot was shortly before his duel with Bahr. He couldn't believe that it had been so long ago. Without getting himself caught up in reminiscing, Oscar dove straight into his slime farm and began massacring the defenseless creatures with reckless abandon. Once all of the slimes had been successfully exterminated, Oscar hopped out and watched the slimes slowly begin to feed and reproduce again. Those dudes were trippy. No matter how hard Oscar wrecked them, they kept that same soulless smile on their faces as they ate and divided and ate some more. Truly he was doing the world a service. Oscar turned on his heels without another thought to his farm and headed out. His destination was Deepedge for the time being. After that, some dungeon fungeon. Oh boy, Oscar was excited. Words truly could not express the depths of his excitement.

Oscar wandered on down to Deepedge with a pep in his step. He truly loved doing new things and getting new experiences for himself. That being said, he was a little leery about delving into a dungeon by himself. After all, in a death game, why would you expose yourself to even further risks? But life wasn't about playing it safe and Oscar always subscribed to the notion that he wanted to have a good life not a long one. Of course, the enemies within the dungeon itself would pose very little threat to him. Even though it would be a tier two dungeon, it was also a dungeon for Beginners. Oscar was pretty sure anything with the label "beginner" wouldn't be designed to completely wreck fools right out of the gate. With that in mind, Oscar stepped onto the teleportation platform and dialed in his location. He was gone in a bright flash of light, carried off to Floor 11 and his destiny.

Ah. Floor 11. Oscar recalled fondly the memories of fighting Antmen within their cave networks on his quest for adventure and loot. But Oscar had a very different reason for being here today. Indeed, today was not the day for grinding mindlessly. It was a day for rolling up his sleeves and trying something completely different. Oscar produced the map from his inventory. There was a spot marked on the map that designated the location of the Sub-Dungeon. After using the item, an icon appeared on his overlay that also designated the location. Like that, the map shattered, its function having been used. With a smile, Oscar out into the wilderness in search of the dungeon entrance. Though the word "search" was used here quite loosely. He wasn't looking for it. He was just following his minimap and walking in the direction of the location he knew housed the dungeon.
