Obsidian Invasion

While the players were distracted with the merriment and glee taking place on the eleventh floor, something interesting was taking place above. The seventeenth floor, home to mythical monsters and rich ivory architecture, had experienced an invasion of sorts. Seemingly overnight, a massive obsidian castle imposed itself on the horizon, visible from the outskirts of Larissa. Its ominous insertion against the landscape spelled catastrophe for the floor’s denizens, who knew not of its purpose nor origin.

One night, the sinister omen was proven true. Shambling, skeletal ghouls descended upon the castle that rested just beyond Larissa’s walls, handily overwhelming the pittance of soldiers stationed there and taking the royal family hostage.

“Fear not,” they assuaged in their victory declaration, “We are merely the vanguard. Our army will seize these lands in three days time.”

Their warning had provided an opportunity to the citizens of Larissa, who immediately shared their plight with the players. Armed with the knowledge that only 72 hours remain to prepare for the coming invasion, individuals of all levels began flooding to the Greek-inspired floor to do their part in the preparation efforts. Much needed to be done, but a sentiment shared between NPCs and players alike was that with courage, determination, speed, and teamwork, they could overcome the dark forces lurking on the horizon and push them back into the abyss from whence they came.

Failure to preserve the sanctity of Larissa will permanently shift the fate of the seventeenth floor. Will you join the efforts to prevent the floor being plunged into darkness?

Overview

Quote

1. Larissa is being attacked!
2. Each player will choose one objective to work toward: fortifying the city, rescuing civilians, or saving the royal family. The three will operate congruently, but individual players may only participate in one at any given time.
3. Players will show which one they’re working on by using the template provided for each action. Your posts MUST include one of these templates!
4. Players may switch to a different objective at will, but it will require one post action to do so.
5. Each objective has its own set of rules. When the requirements have been met, players may switch to a different objective without a post action.
6. Players must allow 2 different people to post before they may post again. This is to avoid spamming, and ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to participate.
7. Use the templates provided for each objective.
8. Rewards are determined based on event completion.
9. Staff will occasionally post progress updates. They will also announce when objectives have been met.
10. Event will end in 72 hours.
11. You are encouraged to discuss the event in #EventRoom in Discord!

Fortify the Walls

Quote

"The enemy marches on us, but our walls won't hold forever! Use your strength and precision to help make repairs."

In order to repair damage inflicted by the Obsidian Army's vanguard, players must roll 200 total LD between participants.

  1. Each slot of MIT you have, both from equipment and consumables, will add 1 to each LD roll. (If you have three slots of MIT, add +3 to each LD roll.)
  2. Each slot of accuracy you have, both from equipment and consumables, will add 1 to each LD roll and stacks with MIT slot bonuses.
  3. MIT and accuracy do stack. For example, if you have 3 slots of MIT, and 2 slots of accuracy, you may add 5 to your LD roll.
  4. Rolling LD to repairing the wall requires a post action.

Rescue the Citizens

Quote

"I'm hurt! Please help me!"

Moving Debris
Moving all the debris to free all of the citizens requires a collective 100 total LD between participants.

  1. Each slot of DMG you have, both from equipment and consumables, will add 1 to your LD rolls.
  2. For each 10 LD added to the total, one citizen will be freed and become eligible for healing.
  3. Moving debris requires a post action.

Healing Citizens
For every CD roll of 4 or higher, a potion may be collected from the apothecary to heal a citizen.

  1. You may have someone stockpiling apothecary potions while waiting for more citizens to be freed from the rubble.
  2. Collecting a potion from the apothecary is a post action, but healing a citizen is a free action.
  3. Those with a Energize Skill or First Aid Skill may heal a citizen by using these skills with two separate post actions per citizen.
  4. Once all 10 citizens have been healed, this task is complete.

Save the Royal Family

Quote

"Queen Delia and her family have been taken prisoner! They're being held in the West Tower! You'll need to move quickly and quietly if you hope to help them!"

A small team will infiltrate the castle and use stealth to bypass the guards.

A total of 100 LD between participants is necessary to locate the family.

  1. The Hiding Skill is not required to use stealth, but it will boost its effectiveness by adding the bonuses to the total LD.
  2. Each slot of EVA you have, both from equipment and consumables, will add 1 to each LD roll.

Once the family is found, you can make a break for it, abandoning stealth to get them to safety as quickly as possible.

  1. If the total cumulative LD is 120 or higher, your party along with the royal family will exit the castle unscathed.
  2. If the total cumulative LD is less than 120, muscling past the guards will require a damage average between all members of the team of 10 or higher (excluding the royal family).
  3. If the total cumulative LD is less than 120 and the party average damage less than 10, the party can still capture the guards, but it will require three posts (shared among participants) to do so.

“Oh my god.”

It was as close to Hell on Earth as Lessa had ever come. The screams of the panicked and the injured seemed to surround her. The air was heavy with the sound, and the stink of smoke. It rose in thick black columns, making the air hazy, and difficult to breath. She sucked in a deep breath, and swore she could feel the soot entering her lungs. The mere thought sent her into a coughing fit. Throat suddenly dry, she called her only beverage from her inventory and downed it in one gulp.

“Miss!” Came a sudden cry to her right. Lessa whipped around, blue eyes wide as they searched through the curtain of darkness. She spotted an NPC soldier flagging her down, and she stumbled toward him, dodging the citizens who raced back and forth. "Miss, we need your help. The walls have been damaged with the vanguard's attack, and they will not stand another attack."

Lessa nodded eagerly. "Yeah, of course," came her hurried answer. She stooped to grab a giant stone chunk. "Just tell me what to do."

LiZzie hearing that the kingdom is under attack, rushes all the way to floor 17 to help out. LiZzie encounters a guard. "Hey! Hey, you! Come help us Fortify the Wall, we're under attack!" Warns the guard. LiZzie looks around her surroundings. "Okay, lead the way! Go!" She rushes to the outside of the town faster than the guard, and attempts to help the guards that are struggling to keep the wall up. LiZzie moves as fast as she can, trying to move stone and wood near the wall and install it. "We need more people!" She yells. "The wall is going to fall if we don't get more help!" LiZzie feels very pressured and overwhelmed. LiZzie ends up dropping a brick and it breaks. "[censored]!" As some of the guards look over at her and give her looks of annoyance. "Don't look at me, keep fix the god damn wall!" She shouts at them.

SAVE THE ROYAL FAMILY

An invasion on the 17th Floor. When had something like this ever happened?

It hadn't. And that's what made him worry.

Normally, this was exactly the kind of thing that Pinball would try his damndest to steer clear of. He didn't deserve recognition or the company others, and he knew that as an undeniable fact - plus, he didn't really want it. There was only one person he cared about, and that was someone he had to avoid.

But this was different. It was an exception. Something you couldn't walk away from because it was so damn weird. So damn out of the ordinary. Pinball hurried through the city, towards the watch tower. Towards the Royal Family. Skirting past guards was the thing Pinball did best - it's how he got by, and now those skills were going to come in handy.

It was kind of ironic, wasn't it? How a skill that stemmed from such a destructive habit could prove to be beneficial in a tight spot.

Pinball, undisguised, vanished, cloaked in his familiar's shadowy mist.

NIGHT woke up to the sound of a message. The unexpected outcome was that she actually had two notifications.

Quote

To: NIGHT

Are you coming?

Quote

To: NIGHT

Hey. Sorry to bother you at such an unfortunate hour.

We just got word that there's a castle that's only recently appeared on Floor 17. It's on the horizon of Larissa. Spotted a few skeletons and ghouls, and the royal family here has disappeared, with word that they've been captured from a warning around the area.

We've got three days before this mysterious maleficent force goes on the attack. And for what purpose, even we're not sure at the moment. Something like this hasn't happened in years -- the intended consequences must be grave for this to happen.

I'm counting on you to attend, NIGHT. Maybe you'll see me, maybe you won't. Either way, you should definitely join in.

Good luck.

The-- excuse me?

NIGHT moved as the swiftest of shadows would, running and strong-arming her way past the crowd of players from the first floor to the seventeenth. A royal family? Captured? She didn't even know they had a royal family on the floor. Did the Greeks even have a monarchy?

The crimson skies and ashen clouds caught her breath, but it bothered her resolve not. A townsguard by the gates ushered players towards a side path out of the city, with the instruction to head out, if they were interested in rescuing the nobles. Without hesitation, she followed on through, speed in her steps, even though discretion was not.

"Jesus!" Cordelia exclaimed as countless civilians and players pushed past her. "This is utter chaos," she muttered, her eyes searching around for anyone she knew, but even if she could find someone she knew, she'd doubt that she would be able to reach them without getting trampled.

Just then, an NPC grasped by her by the shoulders, almost making her scream bloody murder in the loudest voice possible before she slapped a hand over her mouth. "What the hell is wrong with you?" She screamed, only to be interrupted by the NPC

"Queen Delia and her family have been taken prisoner! They're being held in the West Tower! You'll need to move quickly and quietly if you hope to help them!"

"Wha-"

"Just go!" He screamed, pushing her towards the tower.

"Okay, okay, give me a break, old man!" She screamed, bolting towards the tower.

She huffed as she saw a couple of other players already making their way up the west tower. Well, at least she wasn't late.

"We need to ensure all holes are patched," the soldier continued, voice muffled by his helmet. "Use wood, stone, whatever you can find."

"I can do that," she answered, beginning the trip to the wall. It was a short distance, but the massive stone slab in her arms weighed her down. The result was a sort of limping waddle toward the towering barrier. She exhaled with a massive whoosh as she dropped the rock at the wall's base. She wiped the back of her already dirty hand across her already sweaty forehead. "This isn't going to be easy," she muttered. But she'd never seen an event quite like this before. And besides, even if she had, she couldn't leave these people to die. It didn't matter that they were NPCs, she still refused to leave them for dead.

Speaking of caring for NPCs. The blonde cast a quick glance over her shoulder, hoping for a glimpse of her friend. She knew he'd received the memo too, but would he show? And could they work together to save the city?

The beauty of stealth was the sense of security that came with it. Ducking from hall to hall, making his way up the watch tower, Pinball questioned why he was even here. If they had three days to find these people, why should he even bother? There was no point to it. No rhyme or reason as to why he would even be mildly interested in it.

But here he was, and there were people around him too - players, with green cursors that contrasted with his, all searching for these lame ass NPCs that were probably as bland as butterless toast. It was annoying, but he could have sworn he could hear the royal family already, speaking in hushed tones, their boots falling on what was a mix of cobblestone and rug.

Made him want to vomit. But they were almost there. He slowed up, letting the others catch up before resuming their rush. He generally trailed ahead of others, given his level of experience. A thought which, coincidentally, also made him want to vomit.

Pacco whispered a few inaudible words to her familiar before he eventually flew up, scattering black feathers until the whole stairwell had been covered in total darkness and the sound of fluttering feathers. During the process, Cordelia had time to blend in with the shadows, becoming one with the dark cobbled tower wall.

"Alright Pacco, let's go!" She muttered, climbing up the stairwell, the sound of her footsteps eerily quiet as she heard the sounds of the crowds outside roar louder and louder.

"Jesus Chirst, this event is too hectic for my liking. . . what happened to that nice old Christmas event literally a few days ago?" She asked herself hotly, shaking her head as she sped up the steps faster and faster. It won't be long until she would reach the top. . .

She could already hearing the players sneak past the guards. Damn, it was almost scary how quiet it was in here, knowing that there were more players out trying to rescue the royals.

Randal had finally gotten on the seventeenth floor to examine what people were reporting to looking like an obsidian castle that simply rose out of nowhere. What he had heard from most of his friends were that many things were happening all around the castle but Randal realised that the most important thing might be to find and escort the Royal family to safety.

The Royal family has been a good force on the floor in regulating and aiding in peace over the years and they were good enough to be worth saving to Randal.

Randal wouldn’t want to put a tyrant back in power though he probably would not let the tyrant die either.

Rushing around the castle looking for the Royal family was difficult but with the many others who was doing the same thing he knew that the Royal family would be found in no time. Randal just wanted to do his part to help the search no matter what it took, fortunately there was no guards around preventing Randal from searching every nook and cranny.

It must've been her roughness with the tender situation that had caused her lack of success. NIGHT was near the front steps of the tower, scanning the environment for a hot second. On the other hand, the rabble closer to the fortress' entrance were decidedly on edge -- fair enough, considering the value of their hostages -- and decided to chase her away.

Right. If she was going to be infiltrating this castle, she'd better do it as rogues do -- sneakily and stealthily.

This wouldn't go as planned. In fact, since she was rather suited with heavy, metal armor, when she went in from the back, her attention only served to work well as a general distraction for the guardians in the structure. Her quick feet made it possible to duck and weave through the enemies, sure! But there was no way she was getting to find her prisoners with the crowd focused on her movements.

When the Royal Family was found in all of their wrinkly greatness, Pinball was of half the mind to turn around right there. And he kind of wanted to. This objective was finished much too fast for his liking - was it a problem at all? Whatever the case, it didn't matter now.

So he did leave. Leaving it moreso to the others to escort them wherever it was they needed to be, Pinball would take his exit without so much as a word. He brushed the shoulders of his coat, wiping away some accumulated debris. And he questioned whether or not he actually cared to contribute anything more. There were citizens in danger, walls to fortify... and if they were getting finished as quickly as this objective had, then it should be finished up in no time at all.

He'd stick around, stealthily, keeping an eye out for one particular player along the frantic streets of Larissa.

LiZzie Runs as fast as she can to the outside of the castle. She looks around and hides as someone comes around the corner. LiZzie runs inside and searches for the family. Where are they.. they got to be around here somewhere. LiZzie starts checking the rooms one by one. LiZzie hears screaming, and heads towards the sound. LiZzie reaches a room in which stand the royal family. She attempts to un tie their bines. "Hey, come on we got to get out of here" in LiZzie's best Arnold Schwarzenegger impression. They try to sneak out of the castle, trying to be very sneaky. At that moment, LiZzie gets a prank message from someone named Davi "When the darkness has fallen down

Jinx accidentallied her way into this event. She'd been walking around with Fou, her familiar, playing fetch, when she saw people talking about something occuring on the 17th floor. She hadn't stayed around long enough to hear what, but what little she did hear was enough. People needed help, some sort of danger! The girl quickly donned her equipment, and with her familiar on her shoulder, Jinx joined the 'battle'.

Or rather, wanted too. But there was soo much to be done! Fires put out, people to save, to heal...and a barrier to built to protect others. The girl looked around, and for those moments, she could feel her heart breaking as she wanted to do...well, everything! Everyone needed to be saved, and there was only so much she could do...

With people filtering off to do their own thing, Jinx spotted something. It was the thing she was best at, so why wouldn't...The girls legs moved before she could think, and she found herself at the wall.

"On it! I'll make sure the defences will hold!" The girl said, rather loudly for ehr, as she moved to grab some of the stone to repair the wall. She was a guardian, the one who stood in front of everyone else and protected them. This wall would have to do the same!

After Randal has heard that someone has found the Royal family, Randal didn’t want to waste anytime in delaying because there was no certainty that the forces behind the sudden appearance of the obsidian castle but regardless the appearance has left the defence of the castle in shambles as well.

Randal saw the situation as due and made his way out of the finely decorated castle into the streets where panic and chaos had overtaken the general populace. Randal dashed through the streets as people panic and hid in their homes, Randal had to hurry because with the current state of the Walls and the sudden realisation that this was not reality and all was according to the code in the game, Randal figures that this was an event and he could not be too sure if the walls falling apart would let monsters within the walls of the city so he had to fortify them.

However along the way he saw fires raging in the city and had to put those out first before there was no city for the walls to protect.

Yeah, everything was okay.

What? No, NIGHT didn't get away scathed at all.

Okay, maybe. The woman found herself emotionally wounded when she spotted the prisoners being escorted through the front door. In the debacle that had occurred with her careless stomping around the rubble, it hadn't even came to her that some other players would've already found -- and rescued -- her targets before she'd even gotten to them. From the tower window, she gripped at the sill and hissed, before her chaser crowd shoved her out the window and she fell, toppling to the ground, face meeting the dirt and stone below.

"O-ow..."

For a moment, her legs and feet were raised above her head, before gravity took hold, adjusting the fallen body to the floor. Her bottom half fell with a thud, and NIGHT peeled herself off the earth with a grumble and a face rub.

So that wasn't fun at all.

LiZzie takes a breather after repairing the wall, her UI blinking from all the messages she's been getting. She runs down to floor one to get more supplies.

In search of better gear, LiZzie asks around for a blacksmith that takes custom requests. She is told to find the Blazing Typhoon. Supposedly it is owned by a master craftsman, who forges some of the finest quality of weapons and armour in all aincrad.

LiZzie looks at her blade "Hmm..." Maybe its time she got an upgrade... She eventually comes across a shop of the same name she was told about - The Blazing Typhoon.

Um, Hello? Is anyone here?" She shouts in search of the owner, no reply. "I- I'd like to place an order!" She stands at the counter. Eventually, she gets bored and decides to head back to floor 17.

A quick look around and he didn’t manage to spot any players who were helping out out the fire and for a moment started to wonder if what he was doing would affect the quest much or at all, but nonetheless, Sword art online has never failed to be an extremely realistic game on the front so Randal quickly joined in on the effort to put out the fire.

He noted the location of where people were getting the water from and quickly got to work trying to help out. He on the whole was adding a lot to the firefighting effort but it was no easy job. Although he was capable of caring and enduring more, the searing heat from the fire would burn the fringes of Randal’s hair if he weren’t careful.

The trip back to town was more chaotic than when she had travelled out. Now the realization of the storm was beginning to dawn on her -- the blood red sky and coal-coloured clouds meant more than just 'the enemy is coming'. As NIGHT stepped back into town, she realized that the attack would demand a full-scale maintenance order. It was visible in the actions of the people; how some were moving brick and mortar to and from the city walls, the fires that had sprouted up in little nooks and crannies of the city.

Feeing spent from her time running from the undead mob, NIGHT's judgement lead her over to the apothecary in town. If there was something she could do that required little effort, it would be bringing potions for the needy out towards the site of emergency. A nod to the shop keep as she held the impossibly heavy bottle in her hands, before she trudged towards the zone of its purpose.
