[F01 - SP] <<Earning a Living: Merchant>> Obtaining a Job

Recommended Posts

Violet strolled down the main street of the Town of Beginnings, Dahlia walking beside her. Off to the side, on a small, minor street, she noticed a young boy motioning for her to come closer. It appeared to be an NPC child. Eh, why not, Violet thought as she walked over to where the young lad was standing. "What do you want?" she asked impatiently. Then the NPC started on his spiel about showing her how to identify items in order to become a merchant. And I bet he's going to need me to do another fetch quest, she thought to herself as the boy rambled on. His next sentence was, of course, that he was out of materials and needed her to fetch some more unidentified items for him to teach her how to identify them. She gave a sigh and hit the "Accept" button that popped up on her display to take the quest. She turned without another word and headed towards the teleporter, ignoring the further ramblings of the NPC merchant.

Dahlia followed quietly after her, her tail lazily swaying.

After she had spoken the name of the third floor's town, Violet and Dahlia were immediately whisked to their destination. Making haste, Violet headed straight for the jungle surrounding the area to search for materials, not staying to check out any of the shops. She knew that most of the player ran shops were on the first or higher floors anyways.

After exiting the safe zone, Violet took a deep breath of fresh air and smiled. This was her element. Danger and excitement. She laughed and looked down at Dahlia, who was equally as excited. Together, the pair raced off into the jungle, looking for another enemy to encounter and loot. After a few minutes of looking, Violet snuck up on a sleeping tiger. It seemed to be a large male. A perfect target. Not too easy, yet still in her level range. Violet motioned for Dahlia to stay back while she charged in.

Once she was prepared, Violet leaped out of the bushes she had been hiding behind and leaped onto the tiger, stabbing into it four times before jumping back. The tiger had been unaware of Violet's movements until she had landed on it. Luckily for Violet, the tiger had been too surprised and thrown off its guard to attack right away.

Violet smiled, a murderous look in her eyes. Ah, there it was. The joy of the hunt and killing. Back once again.

The tiger got up and roared angrily, baring its inches long fangs and digging its claws into the dirt. The bleed effect of the weapon Violet held activated, reopening the wounds along the tiger's left side. This made the beast even angrier, causing it to roar a second time, this time louder. Violet laughed to herself. "Who's the king of the jungle now?" she asked teasingly.

Dahlia remained hidden behind the bushes for now.

Again, Violet dashed in, her sword art activated and her blade glowing a fiery orange. Now she attacked the right side of the beast. Again, she landed a critical hit, and the wounds tore open from her bleed enchantment. Violet giggled with murderous glee as she dodged a weakened attack from the tiger. "Ah, someone's too weak. Hm, but this is too easy." She frowned. "Give me a real fight," she said, her face serious. She dropped her knife and held her arms out, exposing her body. A grin came back to her lips. "Here's a free shot. Make it count."

From the bushes, Dahlia watched anxiously. What was the murderous girl doing now?

The tiger paced around in front of the woman. It was hesitant. The wounds that the woman had inflicted hurt with each step of its body, the muscles shaking underneath its coat. After a few more moments of pacing and thinking, it charged.

Dahlia tensed as she saw the tiger viciously rip into the girls armor with its claws, ripping through the leather and lashing her deeply across the chest. Instead of reacting with fear or a pained expression, Violet's grin only grew wider. "Ah, yes. Now it's a real fight," she said as she dashed to the side, picking up her blade from the ground. "Now it's my turn," she growled as she activated her sword art once more. Dahlia relaxed once more as she saw her companion strike out at the tiger again, lashing him 4 times across the back.

Violet whistled after she had jumped back to dodge another attack by the tiger. It was the signal that Dahlia had been waiting for. In a blur of movement, Dahlia was standing right next to Violet, the pair fighting side by side. Violet smiled. Now that she had knocked the tiger to below half health, it was time for the both of them to have some fun.

Dahlia made the first move, dodging in quickly and becoming a shadow. While she distracted the tiger, Violet came in with her sword art once more and struck at the tiger in its left size once more. The tiger roared, lashing out at Dahlia in retaliation, but the black leopard was much quicker than the heavier and bulkier tiger. In this case, it was better to be small and nimble.

Violet watched closely to make sure that her companion wasn't hit. The last thing she wanted was for Dahlia to be injured in any way. Violet whistled, signaling Dahlia to stay. "Good girl," she said as the black leopard took her place a little to the side and behind Violet. The tiger, sensing that its health was low, was now enraged and even more dangerous. Violet smiled and danced her way around the tiger's attacks. Her movements were so graceful and quick that it looked like a dance of death rather than a fight.

However, as the dance continued, Violet realized that she was using up too much of her energy too quickly. Waiting for the perfect moment, she struck out at the tiger's chest and quickly sliced in and out a total of four times before ducking under a paw with razor sharp claws. Narrowly dodging the attack, Violet rolled out of the tiger's range and stood back up, her blade readied once more.

Alright, I need to finish this quickly. No need to waste all my energy on just one enemy, she told herself. Taking a deep breath, she focused on the enemy in front of her and charged forward with all her strength. As she charged, the tiger attempted to dash forward as well and bat at her with a heavy, clawed paw. She slid under the paw and underneath the tiger, driving her blade up into its stomach. Luckily, the tiger wasn't able to reach her as she completed her sword art attack.

But now there was another problem: she was kind of stuck under the beast. If she tried to roll out from under it, the thing would easily grab her with its claws.

Before she could get another chance to land a hit, the tiger moved forward faster than Violet could scoot across the ground to stay under him. Then the beast turned around while Violet was still vulnerable on the ground, slicing across her abdomen with its sharp claws. Violet winced and rolled away from the claws, picking herself back up a few feet away from the beast. She looked down. Her abdomen had deep lacerations, and she knew that if this had happened in the real world she would be dead.

Instead of the normal scared reaction that most people have to a potentially deadly experience, she just looked up at the tiger and smiled. This game makes me nearly invincible if I choose the right enemies, she thought to herself. Meanwhile, Dahlia had jumped in front of her companion to try and protect her from further damage. Violet smiled at the kind gesture.

Dahlia's hair along her scruff and back rose as she lowered herself to the ground and growled. The tiger actually took a step or so back, seeming to be a little bit wary of the strange feline.

He must have run into other leopards in the forest before, but this one didn't smell familiar. It smelled like the human players -- not wild like him. This one was also a different color. It was all black rather than having the usual spots like a normal leopard. The tiger snarled in disgust. It wasn't like the others, and in the jungle that only meant weakness to the wild animals. That's why they attacked the humans viciously: they were different and weren't meant to be here.

Striding forward, the tiger charged at Dahlia who quickly dashed out of the way. She was much quicker than her human companion (as the lion soon found out after a few more attempts).

The tiger soon became focused on the black leopard in front of it, not realizing that Violet had slowly crept up behind him, poised to attack. Dahlia dashed into the jungle, hiding in the bushes, as soon as Violet gave the whistle. The tiger looked back one final time, but it was too late. Violet's blade cut swiftly into the hide of the beast multiple time, dropping its health points to 0. Once the points reached 0, the tiger disintegrated into minute pixels that blew away in the air.

A pile of loot appeared where the tiger had been. "Let's see what we have here," Violet said as she searched through the pile. Dahlia came up behind the woman and joined her, curious what all the items on the ground were. It seemed that Violet had managed to find not one, but three perfect quality items. "I'm going to save these to identify in my shop," she explained to Dahlia. The counter on the quest didn't raise at all as Violet put the items into a more private section of her inventory.

Since Violet had started on this adventure, about an hour or so had passed. Deciding that it was finally time to find the items required for her quest, Violet began to look about. Dahlia did her best to help her companion, but she didn't have the special loot ability that allowed her to increase her companion's chances of finding any loot. Instead, both just looked behind trees and along the ground in hopes that a special armor or item would appear.

Lo and behold, after a few minutes of searching, an uncommon dagger appeared on the ground behind a tree. "Huh. Well that wasn't hard at all," Violet said aloud as she slipped the item into her main inventory. "You know, you'd think they'd try hiding it better than just behind a tree or something." Though that was how it normally was with these searching types of quests. Painfully obvious at times while unreasonably hard at others.

The search continued after finding the first item. After only 15 more minutes of searching, Dahlia came upon a sharp, shiny object. She meowled to get Violet's attention. The woman quickly jogged over to where Dahlia had her nose stuck deep into some low plants. "Huh, looks like its another dagger," she said as she picked up the item and brushed the dirt off of its shiny blade. "Good condition too. Must not have spawned her too long ago." She stuck the item into her inventory and carried on looking for the last item she needed to complete the first half of the quest.

As the pair walked along, Violet hoped she would find a trinket or a consumable. Both would be useful in the future on harder quests. Hopefully something in the perfect variety especially. The amount of daggers that were turning up was quite interesting as well. Maybe it was the most common type of item to show up? Or maybe the game had changed the weapons that showed up to daggers as that was the main weapon that she used. Violet shrugged. There were some things she'd never know for sure when it came to how the game worked.

Found T1 Rare Dagger [ID: 135632]

After some more time spent searching, Violet found the last item dug into the bark of a thick tree. With a bit of effort, she pulled the dagger out and noticed the exquisite design on the handle of the item. Though the handle was small, the deep red sparks going through the metal handle looked like red lightning strikes. She knew which item she planned on identifying first. "Alright, Dahlia, time to head back," she said as she put the weapon back into her inventory carefully.

The two trekked the hour back to the main town of the third floor. Upon reaching the teleporter, Violet said, "Town of Beginnings," and the pair were whisked back to the town where they had started their day. As soon as Violet had materialized on the first floor, she took off in a hurry for the ram-shackle shop where the NPC Billy was waiting.

Found T1 Perfect Dagger [ID: 135633]

Once she had found Billy's shop again, Violet joined the boy in the small shop. "Alright, teach me how to do this," she ordered as she laid the items she had found down.

"Oh, these are quite wonderful indeed! In fact, you even managed to find a perfect! Congratulations," the NPC boy started. Violet tuned the formalities out up until the bit where he began to explain how to identify one of the items of her choice. Then she began to listen carefully.

She quickly yet carefully pulled the perfect dagger from her inventory and went to work at identifying it's specific enchantments. She hoped they would be something unique and advantageous.

Soon, after concentrating and figuring out the enchantments, Violet had a perfect dagger with two accuracy enchantments and one paralyze enchantment. She frowned. Absolutely useless for her type of build. She sighed and got up, thanking Billy quietly, and left the shop.

Dahlia could tell that Violet was frustrated as soon as the woman stepped out of the shop. The leopard looked up at Violet, her eyes asking "What's wrong?" Violet smiled down at her companion and gave her a quick pet on the head. "Well, things didn't go so well in there. I pretty much just made a uselessly enchanted weapon." She sighed and sat down on a bench. Dahlia jumped up on the bench and laid down, putting her head on Violet's lap comfortingly. Violet continued to pet the leopard, a small smile on her lips. "Though, I guess now we can set up a shop of our own." She looked up at the sky, trying to think of where to go... What would be the perfect place for her and Dahlia? Suddenly, Violet jumped up and started racing towards the teleporter.

"Come on, Dahlia! We're going to the sixth floor!" she yelled behind her. Dahlia sleaked close behind, happy that Violet's mood had improved.

Once they reached the sixth floor, Violet began walking along the stone streets, trying to find the perfect place for her shop. She frowned, looking at the jungle that surrounded the main town. Too bad she couldn't set up shop outside of the safe zone. She always found the jungle dangerously beautiful. I wonder if I'll ever be able to visit a place like this in the real world, she thought to herself.

Well there was no more time for thinking about the future as soon as she found a corner of the town where the walls that surrounded the area were lower. There was also a perfect wooden shop that had a view of the jungle over the walls. It would be perfect, Violet decided, a proud smile across her face. She turned to Dahlia and asked, "What do you think girl." Dahlia roared happily and rubbed her cheek on Violet's leg. "I suppose that's a yes then."

After buying and setting up the shop, Violet decided it was time to go find more items for the shop. "How about a little more hunting?" she suggested. Dahlia happily meowed in agreement. So the pair set off again for the jungle in search of more items in need of identification. After about an hour of gathering, the pair happened upon a giant tarantula resting on its vertical web. "Hey! Big spider! I'm going to kill you now," Violet yelled up to the beast as she moved closer. She unsheathed her blade and stepped forward, slashing at the web. The tarantula moved surprisingly quick for its size. Leaping over Violet and coming to rest on the ground a few feet behind the young woman. The force of its landing caused the ground to quiver slightly around it. Violet smiled. A challenge.

While Violet was still half-turned towards the spider's web, the tarantula skuttled forward quickly and tried to lash out with its fangs. Violet nimbly dodged and leaped backwards away from any further fang attacks.

"My turn," Violet muttered as she dashed towards her target, her blade charged with a sword art. Slash! She slid her blade into the flesh of one of the tarantula's legs four times, disabling the leg and slowing the spider. Violet grinned. Weakening the target bit by bit was such fun to the woman. It was like playing a prolonged game of cat and mouse.

Hidden in some this plants, Dahlia was waiting for the signal from Violet. For now, she waited patiently, not making even a peep. Violet had landed the first attack and had twice the health of her adversary, so Dahlia wasn't too worried about the fight. She rested her head on her paws, lazily watching the fight carry on.

Violet became cockier and stood in front of the spider, arms wide open, opening her defenses. "Come on. Just get one hit on me, and maybe you'll have a 1% chance of winning instead of none." The woman laughed.

The tarantula let out an ear-aching screech and ran at Violet, who was still standing with her arms open, motionless. She closed her eyes and smiled as she felt the light pain of the fangs entering into her left shoulder. She allowed the spider one full breath of movement and then she attacked. But the arachnid was still strong and stood its ground, pushing the woman back with two of its front legs.

Violet smirked. "Don't think that you can just push me away. I'll cut those two front things of yours off," she giggled with glee. Taking her dagger, she twirled it around with her hand, slowly walking up closer and closer to the beast, backing it up against the trunk of a huge tree. Trapped, the tarantula hisses, the hairs on some of its legs shooting out. Only one of those razor sharp hairs pierced Violet's armor, and it didn't even penetrate through all of the leather armor.

She grinned as the bleed enchantment took over once more, reopening the wounds on the spider's legs.

The tarantula stooped and fell to its knees. The pain from the reopening of its previous wounds seemed too much for the arachnid to handle all at once. Violet dashed forward, taking the opportunity presented to her. She jumped off of the ground and onto the tarantula's back. Then she took her blade in her right hand and stabbed deeply into the abdomen of the beast four times, causing the beast to weaken even further.

As the tarantula began to gather its strength once more, Violet leaped back and waited for the thing to get up. She wanted to fight it for just a little while longer before she killed it. She didn't want to forget what pain felt like. The stronger the pain she could handle, the less she would be affected by it in battles. And besides, she liked the pain a little bit anyways.

Dahlia waited patiently for a future signal.
