[OP - F22] Star-Crossed Gala

Recommended Posts

Shinji looks up towards Cordelia's cold glare in her eyes, his face remains neutral as he keeps holding onto the pendant. Sure it's a heart, and it is a universal symbol of love, but then...why not just do the quest again to get a new pendant? It is what he initial thinks until he remembers that the pendant takes on a random appearance for each player, although he isn't sure whether two copies of the same design ever exist. Regardless, he now thinks that this heart shape must be a rare form of the pendant.

Though Shinji listened to Cordelia's advice and have no objections to it, he still isn't sure whether he can keep it for so long, but seeing that she is serious about her demand, guess it will have to do. He nods slowly to Cordelia as he keeps looking at her glare, then a thought crosses his mind.

"...Cordelia sama?" He says. "You don't want me to just give it away so I can give it to you instead, is it? Your heart is already set who is chosen to give you this pendant?"

"Did you not just hear what I said?" She fumed, shaking her head.

"Plus, this isn't about me, so keep it." She let out a small sigh. She was somewhat losing hope for this guy. It seemed like whatever was going through his ear was going right out of the other.

"Shinji, listen to me," she scolded, looking down at him with a frown. "Don't give up. Because then you lose, and no one likes losers," she said bluntly, giving him a deadpan glare. "Just have a little patience, okay? I'm sure a wonderful girl is just going to come barging into your life one day and you'll be happy that I, your friend, talked some sense into you. Because I swear if you sell that pendant you're going to have to answer to my katana, capiche?"

"I want food now," she muttered to herself, dragging palms down her cheeks with a unladylike groan. "All of that made me hungry."

Despite trying to initiate conversation, Astralin was ignored yet again.

Was the busy chatter of everyone around drowning out the sound of her voice? Full of disbelief, she would consider walking away from the tent and on the path to sapphire falls. She would hear a sound or two, and turn her head to see some drama between two girls, probably over the young man nearby. Did he belong to someone already? If that was the case, She would want to listen to whatever it was that was going on, so she knew who to slap in the face. She had felt the pain of being left for someone else, and there was no way she was just going to let another go through what she did... But they all left the area quickly, save for one of the girls involved, who a smaller girl began having a conversation with. Things seemed to be escalated over there, so she decided not to bother for the time being. She needed positive things to think about.

She would head over to the trail towards the sapphire falls, gazing at the stars once again. The stars here were not like the ones of the real world...but it was enough for her. Her mother loved the stars, and often would bring her along to see the beautiful sight...now, it was a way to reassure herself, that everything would be fine...it had felt like so long since she last saw her mother, and now these stars were but the only reminder... She sighed, upset that she wasn't able to find any solace in the sight this time around, and walked back to the tent, hoping that other people would be able to hear her, or at least know she was present at all...

Now back in the tent, she looked around again, just to see that everyone around her was busy chatting with someone else. Seems she would have to jump in after all... She would walk over to some players chatting near the sweets. One of them seemed to have stopped crying recently. She decided to approach in a way that was not too sudden. "Hey, is it alright if I join in the conversation?" She asked with a light smile.

As much as he wants to question why Cordelia cared to lecture a random guy like him, Shinji finds himself agreeing with her and nods with a "Fine." Maybe she sees something inside him which he doesn't realize yet, but whatever nagging technique she unleashed upon him still worked to his brain. If he can't get out of his own cave, she may be the hands that will take him by the horns and pull him out instead.

Standing up and keeping the pendant back into his inventory, he looks at the tent for a while, noticing that it gets a little quieter even though the event seems to be far from over at this time. He looks back at Cordelia as she mentions her hunger, and as if it is on cue, he finds himself hungry from all the melancholy too. He swallows his shyness as he speaks to her, "I'm getting hungry again. I want to see if they still have more food downstairs. If not I'll at least drink the punch."

Shinji looks away from her slightly, as if he is a child being shameful of his actions in front of his mother. "And...thanks for the nagging...I'll never give this away to everyone until the time is right. Cross my heart."

With that last sentence, he crosses his chest with his finger.

"Actually, you should stay away from that punch," she said nervously, a shuddering going through her spine before she shook her head. Yeah, he definitely should not drink that punch.

"It's not a problem," she sighed, stretching her arms behind her back as she gave him a warm smile. "I'm just happy that you realize that," she uttered, her eyes twinkling before she spun around on her heel.

"Anyway, we should start heading back. I don't want my friends to start worrying about me now!" She exclaimed, hopping to her feet and relishing the sweet feeling of feet without heels before she would have to go through hell again. Seriously, why can't she just be barefoot everyday?  "Also, I think I saw a chocolate fountain of some sorts when I was in there. . . I need to try it," she whispered, giving Shinji a sheepish smile before she gestured to the open tent.

Listening to Mari, Quinn got quiet and her tears now completely stopped. It seemed Mari this the same what she told Quinn to do and with her eyes now a bit focused on Mari and from time to time looking away fast her hands became warm and slowly she lowered them. As soon as Mari told Quinn she felt her warm hands a small blush came upon Quinn's face and a weak bit soft smile appeared. A calm but still closed Quinn was starting to show and the panic seemed to be disappearing.

Once Mari got back with the drink as Quinn asked politely. Accepting the drink hesitant, taking a sip from it, hmm Apple juice. "Thank you," Quinn said softly and calmly to Mari. Then the next question came asking if Quinn was alright, "I... I'm alright now, Thank you," Quinn said low and soft clearly still in the progress in taking stuff around her in. Before turning back to Mari "pas d'inquiétude" Meaning if the translator found it No worries. Then Quinn went and sit down on a chair and took a deep breath before speaking again, "I'm sorry to be... to be of trouble," Quinn said to Mari and the other woman Mari had taken with her as well. It was so that Quinn always thought to be of trouble for someone if they started crying and at this moment it seemed like this was one.

With a sigh and turning away to look at the party, she looked down again "I should not have come," She said low and barely hearable by anyone but without any stuttering in her voice. It seems that whatever plaguing Quinn is was not more a bit of guilt than being scared. Quinn wanted to leave and just not make more trouble for Mari, but on the other hand, Quinn also did not want Mari to be worrying about her as well. It was a call Quinn didn't want to make and for sure she was not up for that just yet. Hearing a voice come from behind Mari Quinn shocked a bit and, yes yet again she was completely Quiet and her mouth seemed to have gone shot right at that moment the person said something. New things don't make for great introductions at all for Quinn, and mostly everything here was new even the players.

The attack had passed, and Quinn was now siting on a chair sipping some apple juice. She thanked Mari, and speaking in French - a phrase Mari didn't know or recognize. "You're not trouble, really. I experience those things often. So I kinda know how to handle them, but everyone deals with things differently." Mari said. "Know what is trouble?" Mari said as she pointed to Macradon. "That." He held Kairi, moving to the dance floor. Leaving a trail of squishy strawberries and punch behind him. "That's gonna cause someone to slip up and fall flat on their face. And hey, we got front row seats to it, eh?" Mari said with a laugh. She was generally speaking, to both @Quinn and @Minako

"You say you shouldn't have come, but hey, if you didn't you wouldn't know me, or Minako. Right? Aren't you just a little bit glad that you came to the eve-" Mari glanced up at the other girl who had approached.

Why am I suddenly attracting all the girls at this bloody event? Mari thought to herself, it wasn't a bad thing, she just didn't understand it. Mari was not used to people approaching her. Avoiding her? Throwing daggers at her - much like Bahr - yes she saw him glance her way, if looks could kill she'd be dead.  Hate, spite, caution - she was used to all those things. But people just casually walking up to her like Minako had and now this tiny blonde? Mari didn't understand it.

"Uhm... this actually is probably a pretty sh**ty time to approach." Mari said honestly as she glanced over at Quinn. She was still recovering from a social anxiety attack, Mari wasn't sure the kid needed more people. But...she said she was lonely, and Mari wasn't going to tell someone to piss off without valid reason to. She also wasn't going to out Quinn like that and say why it was a bad time. She had to try and be sociable, she promised herself she would be. "But it's not my place to say." Mari placed a gentle hand on Quinn's shoulder, a sign to say 'Im here'

"
Names Mari." Mari said as she introduced herself, this time without the voice in her head telling her not to, thus far she had managed to introduce herself to three people without anyone knowing of her being the renowned PKer of the past. Maybe, that mantle was finally dead.  @Astralin

"That's really sweet, but...I'm not worth that!"

Ben listened to the words his friend said, his smile fading a bit as he heard her words.  "Ceres, you are worth that- don't ever let someone tell you otherwise.  You're a really good person, and that smile of yours brightens up the room." he told her as he gave her a pat on the shoulder, his smile back. "You're going to go out to that party and have a blast- it's Valentine's Day and you should be having fun out there.  Maybe finding a cute guy yourself even?" he teased.

With that, he took a deep breath and gathered himself. "I think I'm ready- thanks for the pep talk Ceres." he whispered before turning to walk back down the path, ready to talk to Dazia.
@Ceres

It didn't take long until he saw Dazia waiting for him down the path, her black dress sparkling in the lights from the tent.  She really did look nervous- even more so than when she faced down a raging minotaur.  Was she truly going to confess?

"Dazia... hey, I..." he stumbled "I'm sorry.  I was looking forward to seeing you tonight and I just... overreacted.  I just want this to be a good night.  Maybe a chance to just talk." he said as he blushed, really wanting his scarf back to just hide in again. "Maybe we can start over if that's OK with you?"

"You look lovely tonight.  Would you like an escort tonight, Dazia?" he said with a slight bow, still awkward and sounding somewhat unsure, but trying his best to put Dazia at ease.  "Please?"

Minako couldn't much of anything except watch as Mari consoled Quinn on her panic attack. Minako tapped her fingers against her lap, not wanting to leave Mari alone with a crying girl while she went to leave and have fun mingling with other guests. The crying girl introduced herself as Quinn, and through her crying Minako couldn't place the odd accent. Perhaps she was italian, or french? Something a bit more north-western then what she was used to.

Mari introduced herself to Quinn, and left to fetch a drink for the girl. As she returned with what seemed like a jug of juice. She gave Quinn the juice and then offered some to Minako. She shook her head. "No thank you. I'm good." Minako said, not thirsty but feeling out of place. What was a normal conversation had turned into a spectacle then immediately into a trip to the nurses office. And frankly, it was getting really awkward when Minako didn't know how to handle anything.

And then yet another blonde appeared. Was this entire event just women? Where were are the cute boys her mind promised? This entire game was just a farce. Quinn at least seemed to had calmed down, which was good. Quinn then also said that she shouldn't had come, which Minako held no stance on. All Minako had to go on Quinn was that she wasn't good in crowds and had eagerly jumped into the deep end. Points to her for trying at least. But at least now she seemed to have a handle on it.

Mari the friendly introduced herself to the new woman, but another random woman was the last straw for Minako. Too many chicks here getting in the way of her time to shine. Minako stood up, and gave a polite bow to the group. "Mari, I do hope we see eachother again soon. We can get better, together." She turned to face Quinn. "And you're welcome to hang out with me anytime Quinn. I'd love to get to know you better." Minako said. "I hope you have a pleasant evening." Minako said to the last woman, before making her leave to go mingle with other members of the party.

Minako looked around the party, and couldn't spy a single person that wasn't already talking to someone else. Perhaps she just missed her chance already. All the good men were either taken, or stayed at home for the evening. Perhaps the event was just a bit too formal for a single man to show up. Minako pondered just leaving the event entirely, another valentine's day event that was a wash up.

Walking into the tent somehow feels like a breathe of fresh air as Shinji steps in, almost as if he misses the event's lively atmosphere and its chandeliers. Also, walking with Cordelia felt like being with a sister based on her behavior, or maybe it is just him.

Upon hearing Cordelia's mention of the chocolate fountain, Shinji could see it when he approached the tent with her. The fountain's chocolate is around four stacks tall, the liquid flowing out of the tower without stopping as it provides guests to dip certain food with. Shinji walks towards the fountain and looks at it for a while, wondering which food is tastier with it. Surrounding it are fruits and snacks, the strawberry seems to be the popular bunch as a lot of those were already taken by the guests. Shinji shrugs as he hasn't the heart to taste the fountain and looks at Cordelia, trying not to smile more at her childish behavior out of shyness.

"Which do you usually like to eat with the chocolate itself?" He asks.

Ceres simply shook her head as Benjamin told her that her smile lit up a room. She wasn't entirely sure of that. She wasn't interested in 'finding a cute guy'  or even a girl for that matter. Ceres didn't come to this event to find a romantic interest or fling, she came to have fun - but she had a feeling that probably wouldn't happen at this point. Her mood had already been sullied, and she had been a little too rattled. Ceres was normally quick to recover from such things, but nights like this made it hard.

"You're welcome!" Ceres said with a smile and a wave as Benjamin turned to no doubt find Dazia - and do...whatever it is they were going to do. As he turned her smile faded and the rose-red headed woman sighed as she lowered her hand. Watching him disappear into the tent. She was left standing alone on the path up to the falls. Ceres turned on her heel and started to walk up the path toward them - that sounded nice. And realistically, she still planned to have her alone time, Ceres wasn't expecting Benjamin to have come up to her like that.

Ahhh Quiet and peace. Ceres liked this sometimes.

If there was one thing that could possibly unnerve Dazia even further in this particular moment, it would be Benjamin arriving. She never thought she'd feel like that in such a time as this. "Don't say something you'll regret, don't say something you'll regret, don't say something you'll regret..." She thought.

"Dazia... hey, I... I'm sorry.  I was looking forward to seeing you tonight and I just... overreacted.  I just want this to be a good night.  Maybe a chance to just talk."

"...N-no, I'm sorry, I was the one who overreacted. Instead of just asking questions calmly, I...let myself get worked up over something as small as that, I wasn't...thinking rationally during that moment..." She explained. This was harder than she thought it would be. She looked back up to see that he was blushing again, possibly from the embarrassment of what had happened earlier. He would then ask if they could start over, if it was ok with Dazia. "...Sure." She responded.

"You look lovely tonight.  Would you like an escort tonight, Dazia?"

Dazia blushed at the compliment...something she wasn't used to, as she didn't often do that. "Thank you...You...look rather handsome yourself..." She responded, with some hesitation. The fact that he had spoken with a slight bow somehow started to make Dazia consider whether or not she should say it... "No, not now, it can't be now..." She thought, waiting for a time she could really assure herself, which, so far, she didn't. "Sure, an escort...would be nice." She admitted as her face reddened.

Jomei looked over the small crowd gathering a bit to their left, which consisted of the ginger haired girl whom, despite being a supposed PKer, Jomei could have sworn he had seen her somewhere before, a younger brunette, and now Macradon. They seemed to be attempting to do something stealthily, but as Jomei approached with his own plate to grab some food, he bore witness to the Great Strawberry Heist of Valentine's Day. Jomei simply stopped before them and rose an eyebrow, his mouth slightly agape with a smirk. "I'd say you should save some for the rest of the party..." Jomei started, taking a quick look at the players involved before letting out a chuckle of disbelief, "but I'm not, this is too funny to watch. Enjoy."  With a smile on his face, happy he got to witness that insanity, Jomei placed a few morsels of food onto a small plate and followed Shion towards a table.

Jomei side eyed Shion, who seemed to be a bit of a scrooge for Valentine's Day. A small smirk crept onto his lips, "Its just a silly holiday, meant to get people to buy more chocolates and flowers. Never really looked into how it came to be but, hey, I say if you want to celebrate something, go for it. I say, if you love someone, just show them that love all the time. You don't need a specific day to celebrate." Of course, Jomei had celebrated Valentine's Day in the past, both in and out of SAO. Though, it was truly just the norm, and he felt it right to just give in to the holiday and celebrate with some sort of gift or dinner.

As they sat, Shion turned her attention back to the chaos crew hoarding all the small fruits off to the side that they had passed.
"They're just having fun." he said with a small laugh, "Despite being stuck in this world, we are in a video game after all. Might as well make the best of it when we can. That's why I like events like this, it lets you socialize and relax without making you fight for your life like we do every other day." Jomei nodded his head, starting to see what Shion meant by Jomei not truly fitting in with the rest. "I suppose I understand." Jomei said with a small shrug.

Conversation hung in the air for a moment as they finished their topics and ran out of ideas for what to talk on next. Shion tried to pass the torch to Jomei, to get him to come up with what to speak about instead. Popping a small piece of food into his mouth, Jomei thought for a moment. After swallowing it down, he turned to Shion,
"So, might seem like a silly question, but how come you are so eager to level up and join the front lines? Especially if you seem a bit.. judgemental about some of the other members there?" His eyes trailed across to Macradon, who was being his usual, silly self.

Korra The dress Sokka Katara Asami Sato womanJevi hated how she looked in a dress. She was always the tomboyish type and avoided as many school dances as possible to opt out of wearing a dress that would just make her feel.. girly. She had started to feel a bit more confident in herself, and explore her womanhood a bit more within the confides of Aincrad thanks to past lovers who made her feel valued, important, even beautiful. Everything changed for her after Grave up and left her, however. He was the first man she could truly say she loved, despite being that total pain in her ass. She had grown to like him more and more. But just like everyone else in her life, he abandoned her and just vanished off the face of Aincrad. Things with Ruby were fun.. and only helped build her confidence a bit more, but she would be fooling herself if she said she truly felt as deeply for Ruby as she did Grave.

Her friendship with Minako, and that feisty girl's obsession with finding a boy to call her own, had ignited a small spark within Jevi; even if she didn't find someone she wanted to be with, maybe she could at least try and make more friends. Hell, maybe she wan't as cold of a bitch on the inside as she made herself seem on the outside. That being said, Jevi decided to dress up nice and make an appearance at this years Star-Crossed Gala. Donning a blue dress that started off as blue as the night sky on her shoulders, and transitioned into brighter blues as the fabric fell down her form like a waterfall in an hombre fashion. While her arms were covered with slim fitting sleeves, most of her back was exposed. She even let her hair down and tried to do a small bit of makeup, but only so much could be done to hide the bags under her eyes. Taking one last look at herself, she let the palm of her hands run down her cheeks while a small groan escaped her lips. "You already got this far.. might as well go."

"...I've made a mistake.." Jevi said to herself as her yellow eyes scanned the party goers within the tent. From the quick look, she hardly knew anyone there. Finally, she caught glimpse of Minako who just left a prior conversation and was not on her own. She breathed a small sigh of relief through her nostrils before proceeding to cross the floor to meet with her friend. "I had a feeling you'd be here. Though I am surprised you don't have your arms around a man yet." she said with a small laugh.

Ben gently took Dazia's hand in his own, smiling as they both blushed from the touch.  "Well then, we could check out the party and the snack tables and such..." he paused for a second, thinking. "But I think that neither of us are really crowd people, to be honest.  And I've had way to deal with these kinds of fancy parties in the real world, and I'd rather spend tonight with just you."

He really didn't want to deal with a crowd as it was, and Dazia seemed to just want to talk to him, so he picked out an isolated part of the tent, where there would be some of the tent flaps between them and the other guests, and began leading her that way.  "Looks like we can get a good view of the forest from here.  Might even be some fireflies around to watch.  It... um, it would be nice to just talk without a herd of monsters around the corner ready to interrupt us." he joked with a nervous smile. "It would be nice to just know more about you."

Minako perked up as she heard a familiar voice. She spun around to see Jevi standing tall above her as always. "Jevi!" Minako squealed as she threw her arms around the woman. "It's been so long!" Minako said before giving one last squeeze and removing herself from the woman. She looked wonderful in her blue dress, and she even went all out on her makeup too. Minako huffed playfully as Jevi teased her about not having a man. "There's no single men at this event. Or at least all the single men have already been marked, or are much to old." Minako said waving a hand dismissivlely. "But just you wait. I'll score one of these days." Minako said playfully.

Minako tapped a heel on the ground. "So, what have you been up to? Any cool adventures or anything like that?" She asked her friend. She didn't divolve that she was thinking of leaving, especially after Jevi just showed up here at the gala. "Honestly, I haven't been doing much. I've been kinda lazy. Thinking about doing a lot of things against doing a lot of things." Minako admitted.

The pink-haired knight approached the grandiose tent in awe of its size and grandeur. She had every intention of just marching right in showing her invitation, but unfortunately, she was halted by some men near the entrance.

"You may enter ma'am, but the madam insists on black-tie formal attire only. Wearing your armor and weapons just won't do." They reminded her of the note she had received that had told her the dress code, of course, she had forgotten until they refreshed her memory.

"Ah, right." She said plainly. "You see, I'm fairly new to floors beyond 1 and don't have anything to change into, to be honest."

"No worries, we can provide you with the necessary clothing."

"Splendid!" She said being led off to the side where many dresses and suits were kept for those who couldn't provide their own.

"Does the ma'am need help getting changed? Some of the female staff could hel-"

"No! No need, I'll get into it myself!" She interrupted him, darting into a changing tent with the fancy dress. A deep sigh escaped her lips, and a frustrating amount of minutes later, she stepped out with her armor and weapons in her inventory and in the beautiful black and red dress. Now ready for the Gala, she stepped through into the giant tent, where she was exceptionally fashionably late.

"You know I'm a fan of anything that convinces you to stay over," she informed him, barreling through the statement despite the blush that deepened two shades. "But I actually love the idea of hunting your banshee. We'll do it like all the classics. Like Mystery Inc., or the Ghost Busters, or-" her eyes lit up, and Lessa exclaimed, "-or the Winchesters." Then her face fell, her expression immediately darkening. "Actually, no, scratch that. Let's not be like the Winchesters. That would be weird." A pause, and a single blonde eyebrow crept upward. "Though, to be fair, that whole brotherly love thing has quite it's own cult following."

The woman relaxed against her date, her arm slipping between his jacket and his crisp white shirt to wrap around his waist. "I can see it now," she told Bahr, a dramatic flare to her voice. "NPCs and players alike will beg for our help, and pay top dollar for our services." Lessa paused to laugh, a quick catch of breath that rolled as naturally as the Sapphire Falls. "Forget the Frontlines, we'll have found our own special purpose."

Still grinning, she glanced over her shoulder toward the tent. "Hey, would it be okay if we went back inside for something to drink? All of this scheming has me pretty thirsty."

Do I call myself Tower here?

John looked out over the cordoned off area. A huge canopy of a tent spread out over the vast majority of the celebrants, it reminded him of those old church tent meetings that traveling revivalists would set up. The place looked crowded, which caused him to purse his lips. He could leave, get back to his place before nightfall and not bother with all of this gala business. He tightened his grip on his walking cane. That would mean an entire evening wasted, and no chance of what some of the other players had called 'event loot', whatever all of that means. His grandson had really left him to learn all of this himself. The players he'd heard discussing the gala didn't mention a dress code, so john brought along a white dress shirt and black slacks, accented by a walking stick, which he gripped by the large knob on one end.

He paced forward, tugging at the dense hairs of his silver beard, planting his cane in the cobbles with a quiet clack. his hand moved up to his similarly gray hair, which he pressed back around his ears so it wouldn't be in the way. It was unnecessary, of course, as his body worked perfectly in this world. Despite this, there was a nagging fear that he would falter again, that his disease would chase him no matter how far he ran. He dismissed the thought as he waded through the crowd as it grew denser. He tried to give the other players a wide berth, and found an opening close to the back of one of the refreshment tables, where the crowd was on the other side, chatting and drinking. He had to duck once he reached the tented area. The whole place smelled of perfume and was abuzz with the quiet noise of a party that people think are elegant. From the back side of the drink table he grabbed a mug of something warm and brought it to his lips. He smelled pungent cocoa before he tasted the drink. It felt good to get something warm in him, even if it wasn't a toddy with a little whiskey thrown in for good measure. Drink in hand, he surveyed the crowd, and wondered what benefit there could be to all of this. Andrew had claimed you could do anything in this game, though, so perhaps this was all it needed to be.

Minako watched as yet another cute girl had walked into the gala, followed by another silver haired man. This entire event was a bust. This wasn't the kind of place a single man would go to in the hopes of mingling. Minako had fully given up. There were no cute boys coming to this event, and the last few people trickling in were the last straw. Minako huffed again before excusing herself for a moment from Jevi. "I'll be right back I swear." She said before scooting away a few inches. "I'm just going to go introduce myself to some people." She said, now darting away.

She ran up to the woman in pink, ignoring the elderly gentlemen entirely. "Hi!" Minako said, giving a polite bow. "I'm Minako. Welcome to the gala, event, thing." She said, not quite sure what it was to begin with. Minako rubbed the back of her neck nervously. "I notice that you don't have a man attached to your arm, so I take it that you're single. That's perfect actually." Minako exclaimed. "Over here is where all the single ladies are hanging out at, making sure that any cute boy is immediately matched up with a girl. I'm next in line." Minako said, quickly blurting out the last bit before leading the woman over to Jevi. "Jevi, this is-" Minako thought for a moment. "Oh jeez, I didn't catch your name. You're?" She asked the girl.
