[PP-F19] Attack on the trading post! <<Player-event>>

Recommended Posts

The shift in season brought a chill down the swordsman's spine, it seemed to push through the fabric wrapped around his frame. It was bone chillingly numb, the breath from his lungs threatened to freeze in the air in front of him. A turn to see the approaching mass of wood, of a deadened black and at its back, the cold followed. This was not over, which Raidou had his suspicions given the strange irregularity of the demised that lingered after they were slain. There were a few running lower in effective HP, especially the incapacitated Zandra to which no consumable could be applied to stabilize her.

This called for but a single action, a strategic gambit taken to draw the focus. "A trophy claimed, now is the winter of our discontent. A violent delight to a violent end, hell lays empty for the devils are here. Avenge your fallen, or their heads will grace my mantle." Raidou barks with the provided longsword pointed toward the hulking mass, trying to anger it into attacking him and him alone. Wiping the blade back to a charging blue art, Raidou aims to affirm the taunt with a show of strength to cement his presence on the field as a threat. A sudden shift as cardinal agrees with the aggression providing him speed to the cleaving slash that scatters blackened splinters around in a spray.

The skies began to darken and the temperature dropped to a cool chill as the group of players gathered around the remains of the defeated treants. The game insisted on trying to make them feel bad for what they were doing but as far as Life was concerned they were the initial aggressors. There probably was a deep and conceited backstory to the ordeal but he wasn't all too interested in finding out, after all it was just a game and Life was never much for storytelling. The fight was all that mattered in the end, whether they were morally correct in the battle hardly mattered when their lives were on the line.

Following behind the red swordsman Life charged against the tree of winter with his dainty sword in hand. The boss let out of chilling stream of freezing air straight at him, slowing his aggression and wincing at the wind. Life swung wide at the trunk pressing through the elements and striking deep into its husk, ripping chunks of its bark off.

Honestly...Mari usually sided with things like Treeants -mostly because she hated elves and the idea that  civilization was destroying the environment but these guys? Whatever event that triggered them...well - the trees were not very smart. Nor did they make much of any sense. Only now does this winter guy come along?

"This is stupid." Mari muttered under her breath with a slap to the face, her hand dragging down it. "Seriously..." Mari said as she turned to Macradon. "Did this guy just sit and watch his bretheren die, and only now he's gettin' all angry?" Mari shook her head, oh well. That's the way it was with these events sometimes.

She swung the axe high up over her shoulder and went to charge in - attacking the Tree of Winter, however she had slipped, perhaps on ice? She wasn't sure - instead of falling flat on her face though Mari used the swing of the warhammer to stop her momentum, weighing her down. Ugh. She can't believe she missed.

–Alternatively, the remaining branches could also vanish before anyone could act.

She didn’t give much of a reaction other than a soft huff. Mishiro turned to face the dense forests bordering the zone. Propping her warhammer head down on the grass, the girl maintained a loose grip on both event items near the bases of their handles and fixed her gray eyes on the not-so-distant treetops. The winds blew in increasing intensity. Then the ground shook and she saw the trees part.

The Tree of the Winter has arrived.

And it was yet another oversized treant with its own set of bothersome mechanics.

While the boy in the red jacket waxed poetic at an artificial construct, Mishiro dusted off the remains of her branch. Though its physical form was gone, an indicator with the respective party buffs appeared next to her HP bar as proof that the previous round hadn’t been a complete waste of time. This was good! she would have concluded, with the thought of not having to run around with a warhammer on one hand and a tree branch raised like a banner of war on the other – but mechanic number one had manifested itself immediately: a similar buff icon next to the Tree of the Winter’s four health bars.

She took a single step back. Then she stopped herself, breathing in deeply to solidify her resolve, and her hand formed a vicelike grip on its handle as she prepped her weapon for an attack.

Like playing whack-a-mole...

Before the treant could activate any more of its abilities, Mishiro joined the rest of the defenders and bashed its extended arm as hard as she could.

She’d never faced a boss on this level before, and she definitely did not expect to be doing it with a hammer.

With the branch in hand, the knight was still not sure what was going on. They had defeated the tree of spring, summer and fall … why was there still something going on? As the cold wind began to surge through the battlefield, Macradon realized what was happening “Oh.” he thought as it appeared. It was cold, very cold, especially in this bunny outfit. Macradon began to shake from the cold, it wasn’t too uncomfortable, but it was not pleasant in the slightest.

He chuckled as the branches were snatched away from them, “I guess it was only for a short while I was Branch Manager.” he said with a chuckle and got into battle stance again as the defense line faced the last remaining tree with way too many health bars. He nodded at Yuki and prepared to brandish his axe.

Just before stepping forward, Macradon couldn’t stop the snicker coming from his lips when Mari mentioned the timing of the tree’s appearance. He dashed forward with his axe ready before him, ready to strike down into the tree like everyone else had been doing. Unlike the others, his paralyze attack was only good for spread out paralyzing, and not single target, his damage would be too lackluster if he went for his paralyzing attack, and therefore just went for a much strogner hew to fell the tree.

The Tree of Winter had only just taken back what rightfully was his, not theirs, when the pinkhaired axewoman attacked him. He looked at her with shiny blue eyes. ‘’You will pay for…’’ he said and started to lift his arm towards the pinkette, but in same moment, he got distracted by another voice. A swordsman in red. ‘’What are you talking about?’’ he said readying to strike him when another player went in as well. ‘’Can you stop!’’ he said and slammed his arm against the male player named Life. He quickly turned towards the orange haired woman wielding a Warhammer as she called this stupid, and if he watched his siblings die. ‘’You are the ones that should have died!’’ he said and pierced her chest with his other arm, reducing her health to just a tiny pixel left.

After his attack, two more players went in a landed strikes on him. His eyes was starting to burn of annoyance. ‘’Insect’s you have choosen a terrible time to be heroes, now stop.’’ He said and let out a gust of wind over the players, making it even colder. Ice had started to grow over his newly made wounds as well.

It appeared as though his goad was not taken, despite his actions and attempts it had fallen to deaf ears as a ringing blow to those around the stage had reduced their life totals and not his own. A stare about the field to those who fighting tooth and nail as he, a glance at the blue bar on the creature's compounded health bars and a biting chill in the air. Fire... the notion danced through his head, being unsure if anyone had such an effect. "If anyone has a way to heat it up now is the time to do it." Raidou flourished his given blade, and pulling his robe tight to his frame against the chill in his bones. A piece of skin to players he was familiar, one he had not seen in ages and another he was sure couldn't stand him. But now was not the time for games or petty squabbles, recounting the past or dwelling on it. "Get the hell back. I'll draw its attention." as he ripped the blade to one side and fighting through his skill stasis his course was clear.

"Uh guys..." Mari said as she looked at the makeshift health bars they were all given at the start of the event - it didn't seem like they'd die here - but still... "Do any of us know how to err, heal against this? Doesn't look like battle healing is working on this strange bar."

Normally attacks like this wouldn't be such a bother- but the fact that Mari's Battle Healing wasn't working, and how low it looked - bothered her. Would she end up like Zandra, simply knocked out? Or would she actually die? Mari shook her head, best not think too hard about that. They were safe. If Zandra was only knocked out then they'd only just get knocked out too.

Hate didn't play a factor into this. Nor did death. This was an odd event. But Mari would take it. Experience was experience - and the quicker this was over, the quicker she could punch Macradon in his spleen for forcing bunny ears on her. Mari charged forward, swinging the heavy Warhammer over her head and landing a brutal blow to the Tree of Winters shin.

Macradon chuckled “Heh, and overgrown root like you calling us insects? Insects feed upon your kin, we destroy it!” he called out at the giant frosty tree, it was larger than the others they had fought, and probably also much stronger, towering over the battlefield of players, only a handful reacted and went in for attacks, the bunny knight included. As he rushed forward, all he could do was to dish out as much single target damage as he could and would let everyone else do the paralyzing, but as his attack commenced he lost footing on the cold ground. Tumbling to the ground from his stumbling, Macradon did a quick barrel roll into safety and held his axe up and ready again “Messed up, but let’s try again!” he mumbled for himself and was ready to launch another attack at the tree before anyone else would be too hurt.

“For what I know, this health bar is … an event health bar, replacing the old one for this instance. Zandra was knocked out cold but did not disappear, that would probably happen to us as well … Seems like if you hit 0 you’re out of the fight until conclusion.” he replied to Mari.

Finally able to land a hit on one of these stupid overgrown ferns was nice. She had messed up so many attacks thus far, but she was still somewhat inexperienced so it kind of made sense. Though you would think that it would be easy to chop a giant tree down with an axe when the thing was this slow and large.

It's spiny arm reached past the people around and stabbed Mari directly through the chest. Yuki had almost forgotten her role as a tank, but how was she supposed to tank like this? This weapon and armor wouldn't let her last long, but Mari was in danger. She took another chop at the Tree's base, barely missing the bark of trunk and backed off in front of the orange haired player. The axe she wielded was ill-suited as a make shift shield but she would put it to work if the boss attempted to hit Mari again. "Mari-chan! I have your back!"

From the tree’s migthy attack, it seemed one of the player’s didnt quite recovered, so the tree ignored him for now, felt good not having a whole swarm of them around him. The wind had slowed downed a bit and the temprature wasnt quite as painful anymore. ‘’Haha!’’ The tree let out a laugther as only one of them succeded to hit him.

‘’Haha, fire you say? And how are you going to light it up in this weather?’’ he said and slammed his arm with a powerful swing into Raidou. Then he turned his eyes to the pink haired girl. ‘’And you? You got her back you say? How long you think you will be able to do that thou?’’ He said as his other arm pierced Zajcica’s chest with five razor sharp branches that was his fingers.

A bit away from the battle, a pair of red eyes slowly opened and blinked a few times.

The branches pierced the paladin's chest. Without the help from her armor, to blunt the blow and being completely impaled, she fell to the ground and coughed a fit momentarily until the sensation replacing the pain faded. "Ugh... That one hurt. Don't worry Mari, I won't let this guy take you down easily." She winced looking up at her and everyone else's health bars. If they continued to miss attacks, they would fall to this thing extremely quickly.

Yuki readied her weapon again, still feeling unnerved about the red holes in her chest, she took a swing of her axe at the trees base, still finding it hard to connect with the bark. A note was made to never go into the lumberjack business with her skill at using an axe. "Ku-Kuso, how do I keep missing this stupid thing, it's the size of a freaking building!" The paladin backed up again and took a stance in front of Mari, ready to block an attack for again, and take the downed status like Zandra for her ginger-haired friend if she had to.

Winter’s voice echoed over the battle as the winds raged with greater intensity. A sheet of ice that looked thick enough to be relevant began to spread over the red lines their weapons had carved into its wooden skin, its growth only accelerated by the frigid temperature. Healing. One player was nearly struck down, her HP bar dropping into a dangerously low zone, yet despite the brightly-dressed player’s warning, the woman remained on the battlefield.

“Your HP makes you a liability,” she stated, passing the woman on her way forward. “Take a few steps back, regenerate.”

The strength of Winter’s attacks had Mishiro favoring the defensive. Twice, she went in with her warhammer prepped to deliver a blow, and twice, she ducked and twisted out of the way of its humongous limbs – canceling her attack in the process. She leaped back when the Treant attacked again. Knees bent, one hand on her weapon’s handle with its base slammed onto the ground, she skidded to a stop and took point in front of the two bunny girls.

Two and a half remaining in comparison to their collectively low health bars.

The odds weren’t in their favor.

"Yeh, I got that Mac - I just rather not  be outta commission." Mari offered Macradon a wry grin, taunting him. "Someone's gotta keep the hard hits comin, right?"

It was then Yuki's turn. "I'm errr....really not that worried." Mari said to Yuki- did she - not quite know this was an event? Maybe Mari would try to ease Yuki's worry.  "Look at Zandra over there." Mari gestured toward Zandra who wasn't dead -just knocked out. "If these makeshift health bars deplete here, we'll probably just be knocked down for a few turns."  Mari watched as Yuki missed. She sighed. Yuki's heart was in the right place, but her attention was not.

"We're in battle - focus. You're missing because you're distracted. You're also geared to be a tank - so you shouldn't worry about why you're not hitting."  Mari doubted her words would help - Yuki seemed like the kind of person who would just take anything the wrong way. Mac would just laugh things off, Mari felt she had to be a little more careful with the Pinkette

Mari darted around Yuki and hefted the Warhammer high over her head - this time she aimed for the other leg - smashing her weapon hard into it - ice and bark shattering with a critical hit.

The momentum of his attacks were getting over him, the weight of the axe wasn’t something he was used to, not something his top heavy. Even with something as heavy as a greatsword, it still had a point of balance pretty low towards the hilt, whereas an axe was all out at the end, having little maneuverability, which just meant that Macradon had to give his all on his attacks, hewing as hard as he could at the giant frosty tree. With Mari low in health, and Macradon not too far from it as well, he had to find a way to distract the tree … somehow … but they didn’t fight with hate targeting, it was mostly random, which was weird, but that was probably how some random events were made, disregarding usual mechanics to favor a more level playing field for all participants.

Like the others, Macradon would rush forward and with his great axe, he struck upon the tree of winter with a devastating thud as the axe hew cleaved straight through the digital body of the tree. An astounding thud would spread around the battlefield as the axe was thrown down into the ground, stuck momentarily from the momentum. “I can hit hard as well!” he called back out to Mari while struggling to get his axe up from the ground.

Raidou sees the turned ire from the tree, as its attentions finally shift to his red cloak. Good Raidou thought as he and a girl with lit pink hair charge down an adverted gaze. "Try me." in response to the mass of tendriled black wood. A large writhed section of fist slams into them both "The fire has never burned so bright." Yuki takes the hit but holds strong, Raidou the same with an attempted parry. It connects with his aim but the blade cannot hold. Just a little more Raidou pushes as hard as he can against the attack to redirect it before a cracking sound finds his heart sink. A quick glance to the provided sword sees a network of splintering down through the fuller before a snap allows the strength of the growth to slam sharpened spears of roots through his right shoulder. Clattering to the floor the top half of the sword ricochets off the stone, followed by his frame. Pulling himself up, his HP bar plummeting with a cough. Shifting the now shortened blade in his hand in a jagged section of steel he uses it as a cane. Vibrant blue paints on its silver as his strength returns, "Don't count me out just yet." with a cleave of wooden splinters in black fragments using the now serrated blade, broken but not beaten. This met by two heavy blasts of energy from the two handers in high caliber blows of aggression tearing it asunder. Would the fire actually go out, or was it simply spouting nonsense?

  • 3 weeks later...

The Tree of Winter looked at the group of players infront of him. The players have been able to hurt him, hurt him very hard. He got the feeling he maybe wouldn’t be able to take this place down. Well, not this time. He took a few steps backward, looking at each player to try and judge who would be the biggest threat. Their attacks kept coming in, hitting him again and again and again. The ice he had summoned was quickly shattered into pieces. The giant tree stood completely still for a few seconds as new ice grew on his bark. He wouldn’t let them defeat him.

His attention is pulled to two of the females, one with an axe and the other with a hammer. He needed to reduce the numbers of players to be able to get away, or they would just run after him. He slammed the earth with his oversized fist. Around Mari, a dozen tendrils broke thru the ground. Then before anyone could react, three of them pierced straight thru her heart, four of them twisted around her arms and the rest kept her legs immobile. They tightened their grip on her, making her only able to move her head and fingers. After that, they froze and turned into ice.

‘’Good.’’ The tree said as his focus changed to the rest of the combatant. Next he let his huge fist like branch to slam into the whitehaired axeman, flowed by his other arm piercing Mishiro. From the force of the swing, the ground shaked, making it harder to keep your balance.

A couple of large steps that broke up some of the stone floorings before a cataclysmic blow to the three within reach. A blast of energy outward causes the ground to become turbulent to stand upon, Raidou pivots and slides for uneven footing was where he learned to tank after all. One fell and Raidou's heart sank as Mari's HP bar continued to recede before it stopped with a sliver remaining, a held breath relaxes at the fact although incapacitated she was spared a demise. "Finish this." Raidou shouted to the others, struggling to keep a collected front after watching one almost be destroyed. Zandra's and Mari's life now hung in the balance, until his last breath he would fight against it even if it meant he expired first. A bit of blue bursts along the broken edge, being close to a shortsword at this point before he tears forward and jams the jagged point into the bark to a spray of wooden fragments. Pivoting and ripping the blade upward, a vertical slash rips the weapon free. Raidou would keep in this beasts face, try and force its hand and rig the cards they had been dealt.

Mari grit her teeth, it felt like she was being targeted constantly, but hey - events like these. They had no real rhyme or reason. There didn't seem to be any hate mechanics involved, nor did her high evasion make a difference. Even the woman who wanted her to 'take a step back' failed to hit the trees - at least Mari was able to consistently hit her targets.

Unfortunately, the target was also able to consistently hit her -and hit her they did. Shards of ice penetrated her chest, one by one, "Urgh..." Mari turned her attention to @Macradon "L-little help?" She managed to ask before the finale of the boss' attack as it essentially bound her, wrapping her wrists and legs up and making her immobile.

Mari groaned as she was forced to the floor, her head rolling forward. Great, just great. Paralysed. No, really. This was great - Mari loved being useless like this. It was the best feeling in the world.

not.

"Mari!" Yuki panicked, getting a hold on her weapon and trying to break her free of the constraints that bound her to the ground. Attack after attack was wasted fruitlessly as the others made their attacks on the boss. "Crap! Their too tough. We'll finish him off quick as we can to get you at free Mari, just hold on."

The axe was still difficult for the girl to wield compared to her spear. They weighed around the same, but had too much differences for her liking. Not really something she should be worried about right now though. She did choose to pick a weapon randomly, and that was biting her in the ass more than she really thought it would.

The desperation to help a friend was aiding her urgent attack. With a hefty swing, Yuki rammed her heavy weapon into the trees bark. Digital splinters spammed from the roots of the tree. A grin formed between her cheeks as she was finally getting some damage in.
