[F 25 - PP - The Easter Lads] <<Easter Special Dungeon>>

Recommended Posts

The battle was over and the spoils of war were quickly being divided between the party. Before Seul’s eyes flashed a reward screen, and without hesitation he accepted, spawning a greatsword by his side. When he grabbed the hilt the metal burst to life with a roaring flame, and the swordsman took to swinging it around with glee like a child who received a new toy. Embers trailed behind each slash from the mighty weapon, and soon he would turn his excitement to the others.

“I got a sword! A sword that can be set on fire!”

Finally, a unique weapon was in his possession. Though he wondered how well it would mesh with the build he was working toward. Glancing over its actual stats, he thought perhaps he could change the slot of bleed for something else. Having fought without accuracy for so long, he really didn’t feel like going back to just attacking blindly. In any case, it was just something to consider. Putting his new blade away, he waited to see what the group would do next.

Searching for Chest - ID# 150777 results: Loot: 16+6=22 [Chest found]

As the others were looking over their spoils for the first battle, Shield began combing around the edges of the warren to find their next path. So far, there had not been any obvious exits. There was the way from which they had come, and there were two walls that were now completely covered with flowing caramel. The far end of the chamber was bare sandstone with no breaks or openings. He made his way back to the center where the cheesy, shopping mall Easter display still stood, now with four empty bunny costumes left behind by the monsters they had fought. Through the scene, there ran a white picket fence, and at the far end, there was a big chair that certainly the 'Easter Bunny' would have sat in for photo opportunities.

Shield walked around the back side of the chair and knelt down. Where he expected to see space between the legs of the chair, there was only solid wood. He stood up, stepping closer and cautiously lifting the chair. "Well, what do you know? Looks like we found a little extra treasure, everyone!" He lifted the chair the rest of the way off and tossed it aside. Opening his inventory, he pulled out a golden key, very eager to open the chest to see what was inside.

Baldur let out a smirk when Beat teased him about cleaning up his mess. It was good that they could joke like this. They were settling back into the old habits and rhythms they had only just started to build up from before. The gaijin samurai whipped his blade around, freeing it of toffee and chocolate, before sheathing the blade.

"Looks like I got some Bloodclot Throns armor. Not something that I need, but maybe useful for... uh... someone..."

The armor wasn't anything Baldur could possibly use, or adapt a build around. It was just too counter to his style and build.

"If anything, maybe it'll make a good item to stash in the guild vault once we get one.'

Then the Samurai noticed Shield had found another chest.

"I should have known you'd be able to find something like that in a place like this." He shook his head ruefully, "Has your luck with these changed yet, or are you still jinxed?"

Opening Chest - ID# 151410 results: Loot: 7+7=14

  • [12-15] = (Floor * 100) Col, (5) materials, rare weapon, (2) rare consumables

Total Loot:

Col: 2,500
Materials: 5
Rare Weapons: [151410a]
Rare Consumables: [151410b] [151410c]

Shield knelt down and held the key out in front of the lock. With a puff of gold dust and a chime like ringing coins, the key vanished. The lid of the chest opened with a click and a slight creak of hinges, and a display window appeared with the listed contents of the container. Shield made a little bit of a face, but he was not wholly disappointed. "So the chest was fairly underwhelming, the tanks got DPS and support items and the DPS got tank items. Glad this whole encounter worked out." In the end, he knew that they would make do with what they had. The irony was not lost on him though, and the realization twisted at the corner of his lips in a wry smile.

Collecting the contents and dismissing the chest, Shield returned to his feet and gave his neck a good stretch in both directions. "I suppose that's one down and two to go then. Shall we?" He made his way to the far end of the chamber from which they had entered. While he had not had a great deal of time to inspect it during the fight, now that he was up close and personal, he could see what appeared to be a pressure switch in the wall and inscription written across the sandstone.

"Try your luck, little rabbit."

It was a very simple but entirely unhelpful. There was no visible door anywhere in sight, and no sign of a keyhole or handle. No visible door mechanisms either aside from the pressure switch. He inspected it closely. It was made of the same stuff as the wall. He gently pressed with his hand. It didn't move. He leaned into it harder. Nothing. He pressed his shoulder into it and heaved, but it still did not give. He turned his attention back to the inscription.

"Are only the rabbits from the fight able to open this?" he mused aloud, rubbing his jaw and feeling the texture of his beard as he thought it over. "That would be poor design... Revealing a puzzle after you've already destroyed the key..." He paced slowly from side to side. "If I were a rabbit... how would I try my luck? Push other spots on the wall? Maybe hope to get lucky guessing like that?"

Out of curiosity, he began pressing his hands against other portions of the wall. Each to no avail. "Well, I'm clearly not a very lucky rabbit-"

Lucky rabbit... Lucky rabbit's foot. Goddammit.

Shield rolled his eyes and lifted his leg, planting the flat of his foot against the pressure switch which slid easily into the wall. A seam appeared in the wall beside where the plate had been and a stone slab twice his height and easily that wide slid back a few feet and then began disappearing into the wall, leaving an open tunnel that led deeper down into the earth. Sighing at how embarrassingly simple the answer had been, he shook his head and began down the next flight of stairs.

The descent was a long one, and each time they reached a landing, Shield thought it would be the last, but by the fifth landing it became clear that the person who designed this portion of the dungeon truly believed in suspense. Finally, the next landing brought a much needed sight. In the wall opposite the stairs, a high arched entryway had been carved into the stone. Shield quickened his pace, eager to advance to the next stage of the dungeon. "I believe the next fight was something to do with a giant marshmallow something," he said, peering through the semi-dark of the tunnel to try to make sense of the other end. So far, all he could see was the yellow back wall of the next chamber.

Perhaps there are more rooms ahead before we find the next encounter.

Through his feet, he began to feel a rumbling in the ground. They were getting close, even if they couldn't tell from the view. The rumbling continued, and then suddenly stopped, interrupted by a long, high pitched whistle of some sort, almost like a tea kettle. This died away, to be replaced once again by the rumbling. They emerged into the next chamber, and it was immediately clear that they yellow something he had seen was not a wall. There in the center of the room, there sat a fat, squat marshmallow chick. It did not appear to have any eyes, or at least not visible ones, and its body swelled and shrank in time with the deep rumbling and the whistling sound. It was snoring.

Before he knew it the group had moved on to the next arena in the dungeon. Eyeing his energy bar the man shrugged. The previous fight had reduced him to less than half, but it was just one of the drawbacks that came with wielding a two-handed sword.

In the middle of the second zone sat a large creature, and it would seem that Seul would be the first to attack this time as well. Gripping his greatsword, he charged the soundly sleeping Giant Peep. Galaxy Destroyer tore into its sugary body, but rather than cut clean through, his blow almost seemed to be almost absorbed into its form. Placing a foot against the boss, he managed to pull the weapon free. All that work and only minimal damage was dealt. Saying he was disappointed would be putting mildly.

“Tag in.” After cleaning the marshmallow clumps off his sword, he’d regroup with the others to pat @Baldur and @Beat on their shoulders. “Be careful, seems like that thing is good at cushioning attacks… Well, mine anyway.”

Seeing how little damage Seul did because of the high mitigation this monster has, Baldur decided to switch things up a little, since the stakes were lower. He switched his grip from the Warden's Fury, to the Muramasa as he charged the giant peep. Instead of the pure white and gold light of his previous katana, when the power of Muramasa was unleashed, it came spilling forth from the saya as a blood red, almost crimson color. The sword felt powerful in his hand, and it would only continue to grow as they moved through the tower. It had been too long since he had used the blade.

The arc of red rent the giant, cheerfully colored peep, and tore aware a comically large check of marshmellow, sticking to this sword as he pulled it fee.

"Ugh... I always hated peeps." Baldur tried flicking the blade as he would to remove blood, but it wouldn't come free.

"Disgusting."

  • 4 weeks later...

Beat lifted his spear from his shoulder and gripped the shaft in both hands as he eyed the large bird creature with disgust. He had never understood how seemingly everyone else enjoyed these confections and he did not enjoy the thought of plunging his weapon into what he assumed would be pure marshmallow.

"Ugh, here we go!" He said with a moment of hesitation before the familiar red aura of his charge skill enveloped him and propelled him at lightning fast speed towards his target. "ORAAAAA!"

Beat let out a loud war cry as he released his swords art, though something was certainly different this time. With each strike, the multitude of nearly simultaneous strikes began to slow, Beat's form still glowing, but far from difficult to follow. His final strike plunged deeply into the creature, becoming stuck as Beat attempted to free his weapon.

"Ugh, let...go you disgusting creature!"

Giant Peep Attack vs. Shield - ID# 154564 results: MOB: 8+1+4=13 - Hit! 30-226=1 dmg [THN - 99 dmg]

With the attackers rushing in to attack, Shield was left to take care of his part of the fight. He leaped to the fore, brandishing the Manticore Mask in front of him, a gleaming icon of defense. Its eyes flashed menacingly and Shield took a deep breath, letting the air fill his lungs. He hurled the sound of his voice forward, the sound waves rippling the near side of the peep like a flan on a wobbly table.

"WAKEY, WAKEY, CHOCOLATE EGGS AND BAKEY! COME ON, YOU GIANT SACK OF... noooo nononoNONONONMFFMFMMFM-!"

The peep, having not even woken from its slumber, rolled onto its side, enveloping Shield in its soft, warm confection. He could feel warm marshmallow ooze into every crevice of his armor. Shield had been swallowed occasionally by large foes, but never through a flabby side like this. He could feel the scratchy sensation of his hair plastering itself to his head and the pressure of marshmallow goop trying to invade his mouth and eyes. He kept both clamped tight, though his mouth had already filled partially with the stuff mid howl. He tried to force it out, but the pressure outside of his mouth was too great, and he could either choose to choke on it or swallow it. It was not an easy choice, but he chose to swallow it.

Euggggh...

Once on its side, the peep let out an almighty snore once again, followed by the light, airy whistle of its exhale. Shield felt the vibrations pass through its body, his entire body undulating unseen in its mass like some sort of hula-dancing hood ornament. Not knowing what else to do, he clung tightly to his sword and shield, praying that the others were faring better than he was at the moment.

They were doing well against the saccharine abomination. The other members of his party had done their part too to damage the Giant Peep, and when it came time for Seul to go again, he attacked once more with the Galaxy Destroyer. Puffs of cream filling and sugar coating flew off in every direction and although his contribution was small, it would push the monster closer to deaths’ door. With his job done the swordsman retreated once more.On the sidelines he took to wiping off his sword again. Whoever designed this event in particular was strangely sadistic. Or at the very least held some kind of grudge against desserts. Even so, they were breezing through.

At times Seul marveled at how simple of a game SAO actually was. Most trials were easily overcome with the hit until it died, making coordination in groups increasingly moot the stronger a player became. Perhaps it wasn’t much different from games that allowed characters to do 9999 damage in that sense.

Baldur watched in disgusted horror as the peep fell on top of Shield and engulfed him in its "sugary" putrescence. The samurai leapt forward to help his friend, taking the Muramasa, Baldur slashed at the peep, trying to carve out a shield sized hole in the fluffy mess so that Shield could escape.

"Run to the light Shield!" Baldur said as the glow of his sword arts shone with each strike, "To the light!"

Rather than clean cuts, each successive strike seemed to go slower and slower as more and more clung to the blade.

"This is terrible. I really want something to clean my blade with..."

Once the Shield sized space had been carved with his sword, Baldur began to pull at the globs, trying to remove them from his katana.

"I hate these things in the real world... almost as bad as clowns. Why do we have to fight these things here? What's next? Oompa loompas?"

"The sooner we end the this the better. I feel like my spear is never going to be clean again." Beat muttered as he examined the blade of his spear, which was still caked with marshmallow from his previous assault. Still, there didn't seem to be any detrimental effects from the substance, which Beat felt was a missed opportunity on the development side of things.

"Alright, let's get sticky!" Beat shouted as he charged forward, his for distorting at high speed, but only for a moment as he slowed with each strike. He grimaced and his muscles protested as he struggled to continue the assault as his swordart finally finished. He hopped backwards as the peep turned towards him. He glared at the monstrosity as he shook a large chunk of sticky marshmallow from his weapon. "Let's end this quickly, I don't think I'll be able to lift my weapon after this fight."

Giant Peep Attack vs. Shield -  ID# 157796 results: MOB: 1 [Miss]

Though the samurai fought valiantly, Muramasa failed to cleave deep enough into the absorbent foe to allow Shield to find freedom. What he did find was a faint light pressing on the backs of his eyelids, which he could only assume was minuscule amount of the dungeon's ambient light filtering through the spongy mass of marshmallow. He attempted to 'swim' towards it, but his limbs struggled with every motion. Meanwhile, on the outside, a rounded dome of marshmallow distended out of the center of the crater Baldur had made. That was all that was visible of the tank's head. It was not enough progress. He felt himself being drawn back in by the vacuum he had created behind himself by moving forward.

Before he was sucked back in, he managed to poke his tongue through the thinnest point of the membrane of his confectionery imprisonment. Puckering his lips through the hole, he hissed a few short, hurried breaths like a toddler at its first swimming lesson and was gone once more. A moment later, his sword thrust from the collapsing spot of his first attempted escape, and with it an orb of crimson light that sped towards Baldur with desperate expediency. The sword arm swung a few times helplessly before slowly sinking back into the quasi quagmire.

Seeing the Giant Peep had been reduced to almost a quarter of its overall health, Seul charged it again when the opportunity arose. His oversized sword bore into the sugary, sweet flesh of the creature, ripping off another sliver of health from its bar. The swordsman walked away with a sense of great joy at the way the dungeon had been unfolding. Overall the whole trip had been going smoothly and he hadn’t even taken damage during the run. What more could he really ask for in this type of scenario? He wasn’t sure, but if he did eventually think of something he wouldn’t divulge it to the rest of the party.

Stepping off to the side, he sat down cross-legged while waiting for the others to finish the boss off. It wouldn’t be long now until they were on their way to whatever else the dungeon had in store. Conserving what energy he had left seemed like the best course of action.

Beat eyed the increasingly more grotesque peep that now looked like it had been found by a few rodents and left in a car. He sneered as he brandished his spear, which was noticeably heavier due to the marshmallow coating the large blade.

"Okay, let's end this as soon as we can, this thing is literally gunking up our weapons. The worst part is that I doubt this crap is edible." He said, shaking a large glob of candy from his weapon.

With his weapon somewhat more usable, Beat charged forward once more, unleashing his sword art and grunting as the sticky nature of his target made each subsequent strike harder than the last. With the final squish of his strikes, Beat leaped back and once again proceed to shake yet more marshmallow from his weapon.

"Ugh, I'm really surprised this stuff doesn't have any sort of effect on our weapons. Not that I want this fight to be harder, but it does seem like a missed opportunity."

"Bite your tongue." Baldur jokingly reproached Beat. "This stuff is disgusting enough in the real world, without it having to have a negative effect on our weapons. Just be glad we don't really have to clean this stuff."

Baldur slid into his stance and unleashed another <<San Ge>> upon the congealed mass of putrescent sugar. Truely this was a monster from the darkest pits of hell.

The slashes of light from Baldur's sword art arced through the air once again, but while it could effortlessly slice through the strongest of armor,  the light seemed to slow very slightly as it tore through the sticky mass of monster. The yellow health bar slowly crept down until it became red. They were almost done, but his critical hit was not as super powered as others, and he wasn't able to finish it off.

"Ugh." Baldur bemoaned as he his sword art finished.

"After this fight, Shield is going to look like the marshmellow man!"

There was no light. There was only marshmallow.

How ironic that something whose name is a synonym for "look" has left me without any sight. All I can see is my HUD.

Studying the stats from the battle, he watched as the energy of those in the party continued to decrease. All, that is, except Seul.

He must have paused to save energy. The others are still going strong... let's see what I can do about that.

From the inside, Shield heaved his right arm towards where he thought he had entered the peep. It moved sluggishly, barely able to make progress in the sticky, imprisoning substance, but with great effort, he thrust his sword's point towards what he hoped was air. He made four slashes through the sludge, attempting to carve a small, square window, swashbuckling his way to an opening from which me might be able to work.

From the outside, the very tip of a sword sluggishly poked its way from the white and yellow mass and swirl helplessly, as though trying to stir overly-thickened cake batter. With one last pathetic swish, an orb of blue light formed at the point and spun awkwardly away, arcing as it homed in on Seul. From there, Shield continued to drift, allowing the marshmallow to consume him. He had done what he could.

Without warning, there came a mighty rumbling, and Shield felt pockets of air beginning to open around him. His ears popped, and the began to ache with a pressure that he had not felt in SAO before, even when diving down into deep water. The peep from the outside began to expand, pressing out in all directions until it filled the room, pushing any players left in its path into the walls. As suddenly as the expansion had been, there came a deep "bloop" as the bubbles within ruptured forth, and what was once a single gargantuan foe was now innumerable tiny ones. Marsh mallow Peeps(TM) scampered like rats over every players and surface, using the slightly gooey texture of their marshmallow undersides to stick to walls and ceilings and, once again, players.

Shield, who was already covered head to toe with marshmallow, was a writhing monstrosity of yellow confectionery birds, each stuck fast in the binding semi-solid. Gaping his mouth, Shield gasped new air, strings of marshmallow spanning across the opening of his mouth as though he were some sort of alien beast or swamp creature.

"This dungeon sucks!"

Baldur stood there, horrified, as the giant peep suddenly began to swell, increasing in size until it looked like it might absorb them all.

"I don't know that there's any reward worth this."

He backed up every inch he could, trying to increase the distance between him and the ever swelling monstrosity. What a way to go.

Holding his blade out in front of him like a spike, as if it would help him pop the sugary mass, it continued unabaited, but just when Baldur thought he was safe and might make it out unscathed, the peep exploded. At first, the gaijin samurai thought it was a good thing. An end to the fight. When he opened his eyes, he found he was covered in the guts of the stuff, and rather than having vanquished the foe, now hundreds of smaller ones bounced around the room.

"I want to go home and take a bath." He lamented, "I don't want to be here anymore."

He just stood there, trying to shake off the gunk and survive the bunny avalanche.

[[OOC: Skipping over players due to time as discussed via Discord]]

As Shield lay on the ground, trying and failing to get his feet under him from the sticking substance that glued his legs to the ground, the Marshmallow Peeps (TM) that clung to him began to vibrate, as did all of those that occupied the rest of the room. With a soft squelching sound, they unstuck themselves from the various surfaces over which they had been scampering and rolled like tumbleweeds back to the center of the room where Shield lay helpless. They began to converge, amassing themselves into a writhing mass of sugar and marshmallow Lovecraftian horror until slowly, they took on their original shape

Enraged that nobody had attempted to stuff avian confections into their mouths, the peep leaped into the air. In the moments where it lay suspended, a glob of marshmallow and armor could be seen on its bottom - the mess that was Shield. Its gelatinous body undulated slightly as it hung in the air before coming crashing down onto the ground once again, its full weight on Shield. As the wet slap of its landing rang through the dungeon, its form was instantly overtaken by a blinding, light blue sheen and its body exploded, scattering polygons of light in all directions, and leaving a messy warrior flat on his back, once again welded to the dungeon floor by the remaining goo of what was once the Giant Peep.

"Help, please..."

Beat chuckled as he walked up to a very sticky version of his friend and stared at him for a moment, "Looks like someone has a bit of a sweettooth!" he said, stooping down and retrieving a very large peep that was marked as an item. He held it in both hands as he looked at it in disgust, "The idea of eating this before would have displeased me, but now," He looked at himself, sneering at the marshmallowly mess that was covering him, "Now I don't know that I can"

He stowed his "Prize", shook off a large chunk of marshmallow, and took a more earnest look at Shield glancing back towards Baldur as he offered Shield a hand, "Not sure I can get him unstuck alone, care to help?" He spoke, struggling to stifle a laugh. He hated peeps, but this mess was comical in its own way.

The visual feast before him was a confection of nightmare fuel. Seeing Shield, his good friend, as the engulfed ass of a giant marshmallow sugar monster in the shape vaguely reminiscent of a bird was not something he ever wanted to remember.

That was certainly a kill for the record books, however.

"Uh... yeah, I can help him up." Baldur went to help Beat rip Shield off of the floor so that the warrior could have free will once more.

"Can we just agree to forget what happened here? I have no desire to ever remember this fight."

He gave a lopsided smile that showed he was joking, but mostly serious.

"Let's just... uh... get this thing over with. I think from what I heard from others, there's only one more fight left."

The samurai tried to wipe the sludge of sugar from his katana on the sleeve of his already coated haori, before sheathing the <<Muramasa.>> Even the cursed, bloodthirsty blade seemed subdued by what it had been forced to be used on.
