[PP | F4] Feeding Your Enemy

"Oh no, oh dear, why me?!"

The blue haired woman shrieked as she rushed to the sink, carrying a burning pan of french toast. She submerged it into a bath of water, watching as the sizzles died down. The woman woke up at the beginnings of dawn, just before Kiluia. It was atypical of her, when she would much rather sleep in till late. Today would be different, though. Haine wanted to surprise him with a fresh, homemade breakfast. It had all gone south the moment her french toast began to burn. She only walked off for a minute, how did it happen so fast? She slumped against the kitchen counter with a look of disappointment. He would be waking up soon now, she had to think quick.

She opened the windows to ventilate and coughed at the thick smoke. She fanned it away and set the pan back on the stove, rolling a piece of bread into the batter. She still had a couple decent pieces to fall back on, she just hoped he was still asleep by the time the smoke cleared.

The burning smell of french toast invaded his nostrils. He had noticed that he wasn't doing the cooking. He sat up slowly and paused for a moment. He rolled out of bed and yawned slightly before actually getting a move on. Teeth and hair was maintained next before he exited his room. Penguin was in close pursuit as the pair swiftly made it down the stairs where the concentrated smoke fumes were. His eyes peered into the kitchen as he watched his beloved dash around the kitchen. A blank expression was on his face as he tilted his head" . . ." He perked a brow and continue to watch in silence at her rampaging tornado actions. He slowly moved back careful not to disrupt her actions. He stood behind the separating wall to remain incognito til she was ready for him to make his appearance.

Haine worked quick to remedy the situation. Burnt toast in the trash can, she set forth to finish the rest of the meal. He shouldn't be up just yet, she woke up earlier to make sure of that. But the smell of smoke and burnt toast, it was enough to lure anyone out of sleep. The strawberry glaze had managed to simmer down unscathed. She hummed a catchy tune to ease her nerves. Even if it wasn't the best, it was the thought that counts, right? She nodded in determination and flipped the last french toast onto the stack. All done, not burnt.

The blue haired girl picked up the french toast stack and spun on the balls of her heels. She was about to set the plate down until a wild, stealthy Pingu crept up behind her. With a glance into the bird's beady eyes, she yelped, about to drop the plate. "P-Pingu!" She cried out, pointing a finger at her in accusation. "I know you're hungry but-" The cute creature tilted its head in confusion. She couldn't be angry for long. "Never mind." With a quiet sigh, she moved away to grab the rest of what she needed. With everything set on the table, she clapped giddily. Crisis averted, and breakfast served! Almost. She noted the penguin's sneaky wings reaching for the strawberry glaze. "No," Haine frowned, "Not yet." She scooped the familiar into her arms and ruffled her fur, headed off to the room in search of her love.

He couldn't help but quietly laugh at the fact Pingu had intervened with the breakfast encounter. They would have to have a quick breakfast since the bears were always out in the early morning feeding their young ones. To track one down would need a little luck. He turned the corner to meet her as he wanted to stop her from going all the way toward his room. He placed a hand in front of the two and smiled. He leaned in for a quick kiss on the lips before speaking." It smells amazing." He was going to give her credit where credit was due. Hand slipped down to grasp over hers interlocking their fingers together."Gotta hurry though. Cubs are waiting for you to come find them. " He smiled as he picked up the toast and dipped some syrup on it.

He gave a bite to her next and then to Pingu. The bird seemed more interested in the toast than the two which was mildly entertaining with the certain sqawks. Eyes would look at Haine." Thank you love. I appreciate you cooking breakfast this early." He took a swig of water and picked up her warm coat."Did you eat yet?" He would look at her.

She flinched as Kiluia rounded the corner, as stealthy as ever. How long had he been awake? Did the smoke or the ruckus get to him? Her train of thought halted as the other leaned in, giving her a quick kiss on the lips. She smiled softly and pecked his cheek. She breathed in, letting the sweet scent of cinnamon and berries envelop her. Fortunately, she had enough time to air out the smoke. All evidence of her blunder laid submerged in a sink bath, away from the man's eyes. Crisis averted! She sighed in relief, lacing her fingers between his and squeezing. "You scared the daylights outta-" on cue, Pingu thrashed about in her hold, demanding escape. The little bird lunged forward, its powerful webs kicking off of her stomach. It landed on the floor and squawked, making its way back to the table. She stumbled back upon the impact, a surprised look on her face.

Leave it to Pingu to make things interesting.

She laughed out and ushered him over to the table, pulling out a plate. She worked quick to serve him his breakfast, for they had a big day ahead of them. She settled into the chair across from him and watched him eat for a moment, eyes trained in anticipation for his reaction. She waved her hand in dismissal, playing off her endeavor as a whim. "Of course, love." She didn't realize she forgot to serve herself until he mentioned her empty plate. She straightened her posture and reached for the french toast, grabbing two slices. "Ah, not yet, I'll share some with you." She slapped on the fix ins and dug in, surprised that her cooking wasn't... that atrocious. It left much to be desired, but for what it was worth, it was edible sustenance. She would get better with practice, she supposed.

Across the table, Pingu nibbled at a piece of bread. It was a strange tasting... fish? Unlike any fish she had ever tasted before. Pingu, in all her bird-like nature, spat a little, shaking her head at the sickly taste. She crooked her head and debated a moment before deciding it was something she could get used to. Pingu leapt out of Kiluia's lap and onto the table, stealing a piece of dry french toast for herself. She hopped off with it and made her way to the living room, squawking. Haine stared dumbfounded for a moment and then chortled. "Ah, typical."

Her efforts did not go unnoticed. The work effort she put through into making the food looked exhausting since she wasn't accustomed to the way SAO made their food. Her honesty showed through in every bite he took. A light rose flush crossed his cheek as he took another few bites. The penguin's actions starteled him as it dashed off without warning toward some bread and shoveling it down. "The great escape." He would have to teach his familiar mannerisms and perhaps train it sooner than later. He took a few more bites before picking up his plates and utensils. He would set them beside the sink, they were on a time crunch despite the fact the sun hadn't even risen yet.

"We have to get a move on, love." He would look at her and pick up her winter coat. He had one thing on his mind and it was about what she actually thought of Freyd's question about marriage. He hadn't spoken about it since that very day. He looked over at Pingu."Stay and guard the house. I can't have you come out since I don't know if polar cubs attack penguins here in SAO. If the creators took some sense into things, the polar cubs would attack, so we have to tame them first."

He felt a litle sad about the whole ordeal but it had to be done for his penguin but she would guard the home.

She noticed him rush to finish his plate and realized that time was passing by quick. In the midst of her cooking endeavor and the minor mishap, it was easy for time to slip by like that. She matched his eating pace, scarfing down at her french toast. Pingu was off in the living room causing a ruckus with her french toast. Once she finished, she moved to the sink to set her dishes beside his. She nodded in recognition of his note, dusting off her hands. "Alright, I'm ready to go if you are!" She grabbed her coat and slid into it swiftly. All along, her thoughts were trained on the prospect of her own familiar. She had a hard time deciding what she would want to go for. After much thought, it made sense to go for another arctic dweller. Pingu and her own familiar would need special accommodations, it was practical to find something that could mesh well with her.

Pingu, who was down the corridor, gave Kiluia her saddest, beady eyed glance at the revelation of being home alone. She was newly bonded to him and had yet to learn the way things worked. She was still very much attached to him and wasn't used to being apart for long. She squawked and waddled her sad way back to the living room. They would be back soon, so she decided to preoccupy herself with a pantry break-in. She had to guard it in case something went for the food.

At last, the two set off for the icy town. They had teleported there and left the exit, headed straight for the icy wilderness. "Ah, I'm so excited!" Haine jumped about in the snow, on the way there. The sun had barely rose, the perfect time to draw the polar bears out. They would be searching for breakfast anytime now. "Hey, Kil," she called out, a few steps in front of the other, "Pick mine for me, kay?"

The teleport gate flashed and his eyes adjusted to the rising sun. The cascading light illuminated her lighting up and revealing her features to him. His footsteps made a crunchy sound every time he had take a step  forward with her. When the question came, he looked over to her after catching  up. "The cub?" He had always had trouble doing those sorts of things but if that was what she wished. Names flooded his head each second they were making towards the  beautiful sunrise that lead away from the town.

A name huh? The thought of naming something was a difficult task. Something like Barry that sounded like bear seemed cheesy. That was when he had figured out he was distracted by her and originally wanted to speak about what  Freyd had inquired. "While I think about that.. tell me what you think about Freyd and the question he asked us..." Kil was pondering about both now. " Maybe something related to the cold.. Like Icy.... Popo.. Not sure. "

His eyes seemed to be preoccupied with her movements trying to read her.

"Of course, what else?" Haine quipped, with a skip in her step. As she walked, her heavy boots crunched at the snow. She kicked at the occasional pebble in her path. Her mind wandered to Pingu, wondered how she was doing alone at home. She hadn't known the bird for long, but she knew her long enough to form some sort of attachment to the creature. Won't long, Ping. As much as she wanted to bring her along for the trip, she couldn't risk the rambunctious one scaring off the animals. She was not one for stealth, a wild spirit which marched to the beat of her own drum. She had yet to be trained.

Kiluia's question snapped her from her thoughts, and pulled her into a series of other ones. Her cheeks tinged pink at the realization she was being confronted. "Um..." She debated whether to be honest or downplay her emotions. They hadn't been together for long, the last thing she wanted was to be that assertive. At the same time, he wasn't asking what she thought about it with him in the equation either. Was she jumping to conclusions?

Her energy mellowed into something more meek as her footsteps slowed. "I... think it's beautiful. Love is universal, and who knows how long it'll take for us to leave this mess?" She brushed stray strands of blue behind her ear and chuckled softly. "I think we all deserve that normalcy." She worked up the nerves to look Kiluia in the eye and dazed off a moment, unaware that she had mumbled until her breath. "I wouldn't mind-" She clasped a hand over her mouth and squeaked nervously. Her cheeks had flushed a crimson shade. She padded forward on the ice, leaving him a few steps behind.

"W-Well gee, I think we're almost there!"

He was prompted to go back into reality before glancing over at her. His eyes were observant. He wouldn't be the lead in the operations and intel had he not been able to learn how to read body language and to keep his eyes on people. He obviously had his eyes on her majority of the time they had been together. When she took off without him, he didn't move just yet. Love was universal and no matter what he was already there with her in this universe. Footsteps moved forth as he took a deep breath and pressed on. The two were awkward when it came to this stuff but it was okay to be awkward together. It just meant the two were extremely in love without actually saying it out lout

He glanced around at the habitat that they had reached. It was a clear opening that had plenty of space for them to keep watch but also to continue their conversation. " I believe an agree we all need it. Just like you said to Freyd." He waited patiently staring at the water and the distance." Ideally.. I'd like to... well... think about us.. "He simply quieted down an squatted looking beyond the waters. He smiled slightly as his little fantasy of the two walking down the aisle began.

She looked ahead at the clear opening. They were nearing search territory, little white dots dusting the horizon. She looked up at the sun as it rose, trying to process her thoughts whilst they moved. It was a beautiful sight, the sky dusted in hues of orange and red. It was akin to a canvas, she wondered how it were possible to create such beauty with mere pixels. She mustered the nerves to glance back at Kiluia. He looked as real as he did back then. She was fumbling as she walked.

He was bold and honest about it. As they grew closer to the territory, she equipped her spyglass. She couldn't run away from his question now. The howling wind could only do so much to fill the silence she left as he anticipated a response. She parted her lips to speak, deciding it would be easier to do it facing away from him. "I... wouldn't mind that if it comes around," she mumbled, her cheeks a fiery hue. She bit her lip to prevent a sheepish smile.

She wouldn't lie, living together made her think of marriage more times than she could count. Could you blame the woman? Her imagination went rampant at the proximity, and whenever she would do mundane tasks around the house. Pingu, albeit just a penguin, embodied the spirit of a petulant child. She felt like a parent chastising her while Kiluia left briefly. It felt like marriage in theory, yet they had much room to grow. They'd been dating for a short while, getting to know more about each other. The initial awkwardness, albeit less, still remained. It was something only time and familiarity could smooth over.

Haine focused her attention on the spyglass, spotting a sole polar bear cub in the distance. "O-Oh, um, there they are! C'mon!" She waved the white haired man over to her side, slipping behind a tree. She noticed the polar creature close to her, a baby cub trotting to the lake. "Aww, what's the bud doin' here by himself?" Her bottom lip curled in sympathy. Oh yes, that would be the one. She crept forward, only for a twig to snap beneath her sole. She cursed under her breath. The little cub, who was dipping his head into the water for a drink, squeaked. The poor little guy trembled and fell right into the pool with a resounding plop. It whipped its head around in search of a predator. It swam to the other side of the pool, skittering off in no exact direction.

"Ugh, is this one gonna be a pain in the ass too?"

Marriage was something sacred and above all, an agreement to ensure the happiness of each other. He wasn't exactly sure what else it entailed. He was in the middle of the prospect of learning the ideals and tribulations of marriage before this incident happened. It wasn't uncommon for arranged marriages to happen so therefore it made sense for him to learn about it before entering it. The bubble popped when he heard her speak about when the time came around. His face turned red and if smoke happened to come out,so be it.

Reality came crashing down when he heard he baby cub. His eyes lit up at the cute adorable creature making its way for water. The moment, however, was ruined when it panicked and took off into the water to avoid the predators that may hunt it. He side glanced at Haine and spoke slightly. " We should stay here and wait for them to come back. " He looked at the sun rising up a bit an slowly made himself sitting down once more. Eyes looked up and he just watched the darkness roll away. " No reason to leave... Favorite food Haine. Go." He was going to rapid fire questions at her at this rate.

She was about to make her way off until he suggested they stay and wait anyways. The bear cub would most likely wander back on its own to take a drink. She nodded in agreement, turning her back to the tree to lean against it. She folded her arms, gaze trained to the sky which had grown bright now that the sun rose. Kilo's question roused her curiosity. A rapid-fire game of get-to-know? She would play along.

"Ice cream! I don't care for food, just sweets." She figured he knew that by now already. The sweet fiend would eat just a little meal each time and then make a beeline for the desserts. "Dream... career?" She threw out the question, uncertain of what to ask next. She was curious though. Were it not for the circumstances of the world they were in, how differently would life be for them? She glanced at him, his white hair blending perfectly against the background.

Sweets huh? A smile crossed his face as he looked at her with a tilt of his head. He would find his way and sit beside her now. He would share his warmth as he spoke to her in a soft tone. "I guess I'm lucky. My father always wanted me to go into politics but I wanted to be a pâtissière." Being a french pastry chef would allow him to let the world go away. He would be her chef if she allowed him. He looked at the snow under them and just stared at it thinking about how he would make her any dessert she wished for. She just only needed to ask him. "What do you plan on doing when you get out of here?"The  question was simple. Everyone thought about what they would do once they were able to leave. His mind was swirling like a vortex wondering what indeed the two would do. Would she never see him again?

Snow fell quietly and slowly. The pile of snow inching upward at a snails pace. It was to their advantage though as it would provide cover and the listening capabilities that he had. However, he was enthralled by her and trying to absorb information as much as possible.

A sheltered Haine didn't know much about what went on in a world of politicians. She'd simply heard from her parents that some could be corrupt, and it was a tough path to traverse. She silently applauded Kiluia for wanting to choose his own path, rather than the one his father wanted. As for her own life, she had not a clue where it led her, and where it would take her from here. The events of the death game made it even more unclear, as her priorities changed to get back to her previous point in life. But the future? She could only see up to the point of returning home. She didn't plan her life past that point.

"I... I'm honestly unsure, but I know that I want to help people." She was sitting on the snow, her thick coat buffering the space between her and the floor.  "I've spent my childhood looking after my sisters, I'm used to it." She entertained the thought of being a musician more times than she could count, but it was a pipe dream. "I love music too, but I would want to pursue something more stable, yanno?" She shrugged, crossing her legs. "If you could change one thing from past, what would it be?" She turned to the other and searched his eyes. She dug deep this time, she wanted to know more about the mysterious man. He'd known much more about her than she did of him, and she wanted that to change.

One thing he wanted  to change? That was a question that most people would find difficult to answer. People would pick maybe something about their job or family matters. "I wish I would of said hello to you in school. The day I saw an angel and ran the hell outta there so fast." He laughed at himself about  how badly he reacted. "You don't know how badly I wanted to just... say how much I fell in love with the girl who saved me. "

He drew a face in the snow as he was learning more about her. He was a cheese ball. No experience in love or dating. He was that young boy who was sheltered. " Name a time you were embarrassed.." He wanted to stop talking about how he was a hopeless romantic in books. She would find out later if she paid attention to anything  he read or researched. " Like omg Im gonna die embarassed...:

The answer was one that caught her off guard, but she accepted it. She wondered how differently things would've went if they were able to connect earlier on. He was just an elusive boy back then, she couldn't figure him out for the life of her. She scooted closer to the white haired man and leaned against him, seeking affection. Her other hand played with the snow, idly. "Well, fate found a way to bring us together anyway," she replied, with a soft smile.

The next question made her think hard. There were about a dozen moments she could bring up, but which one was worth mentioning? She thought to her childhood. "Oh, I know! Kids are brats growing up. I was invited to a birthday party once..." she paused to laugh into her hands. "They told me it was a pool party, so I showed up there in my bathing suit and my lil' floaties." Back then, it made her want to curl up in a ball and cry, but looking back at it, she just wanted to laugh. Those kids. "Turns out it was not a pool party. I was the only one there in my bathing suit and I was not happy. So..." She crosses her legs. "So I told the kid's mother everything, and in the middle of the whole party, she went straight for her. Just started yelling. I snuck out with some snacks and it was war with her ever since." Haine wondered what the girl was doing now.

"What's your favorite childhood memory?"

Fate had an interesting take on both their lives. Two red strings finally tying together at this moment in time. He placed an arm around her while playing with the snow. His eyes looked up at the sky trying to focus on the faces within his memory. Strange. He couldn't see certain faces. But the one memory stood out to him as he looked at her and grinned. " I was peeling an apple with my mother.. It was summer and maybe around six or seven. She got me a puppy. We named him Mr. Whimpers because he kept whimpering when he wanted attention. I was in love with that dog until my dad came a long. He kinda threw a fit about it but never got rid of the dog. I think it was because my mother would kick him if he did.. My siblings were never around too much so playing with the dog was the closest thing I had to a friend when I was young. "

He looked over at her and poked her cheek. It was a sign of affection as it was gentle to the touch. "Lets see....Where do you want to live?" He finished his art snow piece of a stick figure with a sword. He was not Picasso." I think some place warm for you with light winters would be nice for you.. over all fair weather all year long. Like Spain."

"Aww." She listened to the tale of Mr. Whimpers, the family dog. Growing up she had some pets too, a bunny to be exact. Her mother couldn't stand the smell of a rabbit cage, but a younger Haine was a skilled manipulator. She manipulated her way into owning one. She thought of where she wanted to live.  "Spain's nice! But... imagine living as a traveler? I wouldn't have to live in just one place, I could go everywhere." She put a finger to her lip. "But if I have to pick one place, maybe Hawaii? Some place with a beach." She pondered another question to follow up.

"What's the strangest dream you've ever had?" She reached to the side for a stick. "Lookin' good, but it needs a lil' something!" She draws on a pair of angry eyebrows to match the swordsman's fierce stance. She laughed. "There, now he's fierce."

Strangest dream? There had been several dreams that he had during his time in the cocoon but he had to chalk it up to the one before coming into SAO. His eyes glanced over at the little artwork they had created together. His lips curled upward and he looked over at her. "The strangest dream I had... was right before entering the game.I was dreaming about saying goodbye to my family and friends. It was a sad farewell though. I always thought it was me going away.. Just not like this. A premonition of sorts as they would say." He would play with her hand by drawing slight circles on the top of her hand. "Hawaii though... " He looked at her." I wouldn't mind sandy beaches. " He would tap his chin.

His next question had to be tougher or personal. He was finding out new things about her and it would signify their compatibility. Before he would ask the question. He would look around trying to spot some polar cubs." I think its about time we check to see if there is anything out there. "
