Her approach to combat seemed calculated and the swings of her katana intentional. Disappointment at her own inability to perform a successful attack was only made worse in the shadow of her victories. She tried to her best to brush off the feeling by recalling the previous phase of their quest. I've just gotta slow down a little, she tried to reassure herself. Shifting her focus to the weakest enemies, Elora rushed forward and knocked one off of his feet. He stumbled backwards, impairing the other and giving Elora just enough time to slash them before they had the chance to lift their swords in defense. "Come on, I'm going to be broke if you keep making deals like that!", she teased with a light-hearted tone to try and ease the mood. Just then, more soldiers leapt out from behind the bodies, nearly stabbing her from either side in her distraction. Elora only had a fraction of time to duck beneath their blades as they passed over her, quickly carrying another set of swings at Katoka, who was still standing nearby. The samurai could see that Elora was watching her as she fought, it made her feel a sense of pride that she was being noticed, but it also made her feel equally flustered. She readied herself to take out the remaining elvish soldiers and let the system guide her blade as she released the same sword art from before. She decapitated the warrior before her, but felt her embarrassment fully take hold shortly after. Her movements felt sluggish and of balance as she sailed past the remaining two enemies and tripping over an exposed tree root. She lost her balance and fell forward, rolling a couple of times before coming to a stop on her rear. "I'm okay!" she shouted, her face turning beat red. The air around his blade began to freeze as he swung his blade widely just when the Commander arrived from the distance, having been standing next to the King who was watching over a hill with his sword triumphantly planted into the ground. With shards of ice beginning to fly right towards them alongside his attack, the ground froze and kept the Commander and one of the two soldiers in place, for the next attack. And then it came, knocking them both out instantly. The last soldier was terrified, running right towards him and bringing his blade down onto the bluehead- only for it to slide off from the slime and deal a grand total of a single hitpoint worth of damage once more. Nothing to be surprised or disappointed about, honestly. The monster with the highest chance to deal damage to him was the King- but that didn't matter. He'd finished the quest and knew that he was far above these mobs. It was just about helping these two out, even if... "... Just the king left after they kill this last one." She wasn't confident in her ability to take down three at once, especially since she was feeling winded from her previous set of strikes. Thankfully, Chaser stepped in and removed two of them before she could even step in their direction. That left one solider, who was only seconds away from hurting Katoka as she sat in her vulnerable position. "Don't worry, I've got you --!", shouted Elora as she rushed in and stabbed the enemy, hefting his body up into the air and over her head before slamming it into the ground. The green-haired woman then used her heel to scrape off the corpse from her spear like it was a burnt marshmallow stuck to a roasting stick. "Nice work!", she shouted to Chase before offering a hand to help Katoka onto her feet "That was a pretty dramatic fall", she remarked with a sympathetic chuckle, "You sure you're alright?" "Let's not get too careless just yet, we still have the king to take care of." As the words left her mouth she saw the elvish king striding to the trio, he drew two swords from his back and stood in a readied fighting stance. "Take a breather Elora, I'll see if I can hurt this guy a bit." Digging her toes into the dirt, the samurai sprung forward ready to strike the king where he stood. When she slid to a stop in front of the elf she let the system guide her blade like she always did, watching the glow of her sword as is cut through the air almost in slow motion. However something was off. The elvish king had a devilish grin from ear to ear as he deflected her attack with ease. "Damn!" Katoka cursed as she leapt back from her enemy. Looks like he wasn't going to be as easy as she thought. It was less of them questing, more so them talking it out and collecting intel for his own reasons. Closing his eyes and trying to relax somewhat, he raised his sword and shortly after, he was right in front of the Elvish King with a fast lunge. He brought it down, only for it to be deflected by his twin swords. The force he attacked with though, was tremendous. In his peace of mind, he'd used his strongest sword art rather than one of his weaker ones, breaking one of his blades' tip and sending him back a few meters. He tried to retaliate, but the attacks just slipped right off of his slime armor. Opening his eyes again, Chase silently began to walk backwards and carefully looked at him, regrouping with the other two. "..." Spoiler ChaseR uses Galaxy Destroyer on Elvish King! She intercepted his blades as they attempted to shield his figure, forcing the shaft of her spear to bear down on one of his swords until it dug the dirt. The tip of her spear then swung forward, only barely gashing his cheek before he used the hilt of his second sword to club her in the side. With the wind being knocked out of her, she withdrew her weapon and folded forward, all but collapsing onto the ground to clutch her stomach. "S-shit, that f*cking hurts" The reckless move had drained her of all her remaining energy, leaving her vulnerable to the the King's retaliation. In a desperate attempt to save the day as a means to redeem her image, Elora had forfeited her safety at the cost of her pride and to the detriment of their party. What was I thinking?! I should have just listened to Katoka and sat on the sidelines for a bit. This probably isn't going to play out well. "Dual Wielding is so OP." she said aloud as she watched her companions struggle with their opponent. However when she watched Elora get knocked to the ground and saw the Elvish King looming over her, she felt her body react once again. She went into the motions for charging her sword art while the tendons in her legs tightened and propelled her forward at lightning speed. It was as if she was watching the king move in slow motion, he drew back on of his blades in the motion to cut down Elora. Before the sword had even made it back down Katoka was standing behind him now, if Elora or Chase had blinked they would have missed it. His health bar dropped immediately to half as his arm dropped from his body and shattered on the ground into a million fractals. "Get to safety Elora." the samurai said as she turned to face the newly crippled king. Her voice was flat, devoid of any emotion. However her face was stern and there was a fire in her eyes that couldn't be snuffed out, unless it was with her opponents blood. Spoiler Katoka attacks with San Ge! He was already down enough to not really bother, but... Lifting his head, he took a deep breath and howled loudly, getting the King's attention. If Katoka wanted to play it hero, then he'd let her do exactly that. With the king now turned to Chase, he quickly began to run right at him, slashing with both of his swords. Despite his best efforts and struggling or what was it, he just dodged the attacks by stepping back every time the other stepped forward. He wanted to ask Elora why she wasn't doing anything, but... he figured she must either not be strong enough or her stamina was too low. Maybe even both for all he knew. He'd never seen the elf-like lady before either way. By now though, a window of opportunity had opened for the two to attack- whether they would or wouldn't was up to them. She silently nodded to Katoka in agreement but evaded making contact with her eyes as she scrambled back from the scene. This is so stupid. It shouldn't be like this. I should have been able to do much more in this battle than just pick off a few soldiers only to cower when it came to facing the boss. She set her jaw as her face adopted a stern expression, her mind churning into an emotional whirlwind. Katoka shouldn't be any stronger than me when we're both just as experienced in combat. It doesn't make sense that it's so much easier for her to handle herself. Moving back to stand beside Chase, she couldn't help but feel herself getting frustrated at his behavior as well. I thought that he was supposed to be so much better than both of us, but he's hardly even doing anything. That last hit should have been enough to kill the king. He must be drawing this out just to make us feel even sh*ttier about how this is playing out. Turning to face the one armed elf, she returned her blade to it's saya but never removed her hand from it. She bent her knees and called out to the warrior, "HEY! Over here!" Her call got his attention as he turned to face her, holding his blade at the ready. "That's right, I'm over here you idiot." her expression never wavered. She remained calm and collected, just as her sensei had taught her. As the two stood almost completely still, both poised to attack at any moment, a single leaf fell from an overhead tree. When it softly touched the ground between them Katoka lunged forward drawing her blade in a fast strike, her sword flashing the bring color of a somehow already charged sword art. Once again in an instant she was standing back to back with her enemy, with a swift motion she flicked the polygonal blood from her blade and sheathed it as the king slid in half at the waist. As his two halves plopped to the ground and shattered she closed her eyes and let out a sigh of relief. Turning her attention to her companions, Katoka rushed over and stopped in front of them. He looked to the side in the meantime at Elora, seeing a rather distasteful expression filled with regret. He could say little, honestly. If he knew he'd cause this much turmoil, he wouldn't have run his mouth in the first place. With a deep sigh, he stuffed both of his hands inside of his pockets- or made the movement to do so before realising he was still wearing his new armor. No pockets, just slime. He just kept his arms dropped, having placed his blade back inside its scabbard since he wouldn't be doing any more fighting. When Katoka returned, he would have normally congratulated her, but now he wasn't feeling that talkative or social. Let alone with her, not because she threatened him, but because he managed to get that look out of her. "Sure.", he blankly responded to her question that was out of worry or whatever, huffing and looking over at the greenhead. "... Sorry for not helping more. You ran out of energy." There was a slight snap to her voice that indicated a discordance between what she was saying and what she was expressing. Much to her discomfort, Chase made no effort to bolster the conversation, leaving a tense and prolonged silence to sink into the already-awkward atmosphere. "You ran out of energy." "Yeah, I realized--", she retorted snidely with a half-hearted glare, "It's kind of hard to have the stamina to finish a battle when only two of us are really fighting" It was quite the back-handed comment, especially considering that Chase had absorbed many of the hits that would have otherwise fallen on her or her guild-mate. Still, she couldn't help but feel like he hadn't carried his weight or done enough to oversee that things went smoothly, as Freyd often seemed to do. After all, Elora had never crippled herself in combat like this before. It had to have been the fault of those who she'd chosen to campaign with. "Well, whatever. She looked to Chase and then back to the green haired woman, "I... Y-Yeah, I suppose we should head back now." The blonde began walking as her mind started to race. "Did I say something to upset her? Should I have not gone in to help? No, that's stupid. Then again taking one hit wouldn't have killed her. But--" she continued to go over things in her head as they walked in silence. The feeling in Katoka's stomach grew the longer no one spoke. Their previously short walk felt like it was taking hours now, in regality it had only been a few minutes. Finally the blonde spoke up, albeit more quiet than she normally was, "E-Elora, if I did or said anything to upset you I apologize." her voice was slightly strained as if she was holding back tears. Just when he thought he'd given them their chances to shine, she seemed... not just unappreciative about it, rather annoyed even. He choked slightly, choosing to remain quiet and walk alongside the two. When he had thought that this would be a good way to enjoy himself and help out the two newbies in combat, just like NIGHT had helped him, all he ended up doing was ruining his relationship with Elora and Katoka. Without Vie around, everything just seemed to go haywire when he was involved. "... Is it because of me or is it because of them? I can't tell if it's me being brass or if they have too many complexes, and I don't want to put the blame on either... I just don't want any of this, fuck's sake.". Had his expression not become any gloomier, now it definitely would. He just followed behind silently, his back slumped forwards a bit, looking down at the ground with a frown painted clear on his face. Link to post Share on other sites

Not long after they began their returning journey, she heard Katoka begin to speak: "E-Elora--" She glanced over her shoulder only to be greeted by her companion's overtly saddened expression "If I did or said anything to upset you I apologize." "Wha -- no, you didn't --", she frantically tried to console the samurai. Why does she look so hurt? I didn't mean for... "Y-you didn't say anything to upset me", reassured Elora as she raised her hands in a gesture that feigned trying to calm Katoka's nerves. "I just got...", she began before catching a glimpse of Chase's equally-disheartened complexion, which only worsened her sense of regret in how she'd acted. Slowly coming to a stop, she reluctantly turned to address them both after emitting a stifled sigh, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap at you like that, either of you..." Elora's eyes turned downward to find escape from their gazes in her pair of scuffed leather boots that rose to her thighs. "I just -- I wasn't happy with how I handled myself in our battle. I got desperate to try and pull my weight, so I started attacking recklessly and ended up wasting all of my energy." She bit her lip at the admission, the shortcomings of her own abilities being a hard truth to except, let alone divulge to others. "But, that's not either of your faults -- it's mine -- and I shouldn't have taken out my frustration on you" For the time being, Elora hoped that the superficial confession would suffice as an apology, or at the very least, repair their spirits enough for them to return to town before they went their separate ways. When she finished her explanation Katoka stood there silently for a moment before tears spilled from her eyes, the blonde rushed forward and hugged the green haired woman tightly. "Eloraaaaaaa," she sobbed, "I'm so sorry! I had no idea you felt this way. You're my friend and I care about you." she pulled back from her, her face still wet with tears while holding her at arms length, "These things happen though. We're still new, we're going to be bad at managing our energy. You did pull your weight in the fight! I came to help you because I care about you and I don't want you to get hurt." Katoka hugged her again, "I don't know how you feel about me but I feel like we've grown really close these past few weeks. I think of you as my best friend. If you ever feel down or upset please tell me. I'm not good at picking up subtle stuff and if people get mad and don't tell me why I assume it's something I did." Pulling back again she apologized once more as she wiped her face, "Sorry for hugging you so much too. I can get a bit touchy with friends." Turning to Chase she frowned, "And you." she walked forward stopping in front of him and poking him in the chest, "While I don't appreciate you talking about Freyd they way you had, it doesn't mean I hate you." she continued to poke him repeatedly as she talked, "I am sorry for how I acted. It made me mad but I over reacted, I should never have threatened you like that." she stopped poking him and lightly punched him on his arm. "Stop moping and speak slimy." She'd hurt him and he was just trying to heal from the consecutive strikes of herself and her blonde companion, who was bawling over her and keeping her hugged snuggly. It made him feel somewhat lonely to look at them like that, so he just turned his head to the side and pretended they weren't there while they were getting everything done. And then came the repeated poking in his chest, getting his attention. Just the look on her face was enough to get a dry gulp out of him, but... "While I don't appreciate you talking about Freyd they way you had, it doesn't mean I hate you." Not... too reassuring. With a deep sigh, Chase just looked at her in the eyes and put on a fake smile. He wouldn't have to keep it up for long anyways. "... Just been a rough day. Pay me no mind. We're done here either way. Go make up with your girlfriend and we'll talk again, yeah?". The forced cheeriness in his voice and underlying hint of not feeling fine weren't much reassuring to her either, probably. It was the best he could muster right now though. "I'll be off to home.", he finished off and dipped his head, waving at the both of them and turning around to open his menu. He unequipped his slime covered armor and just put on his normal shorts and jacket, stuffing his hands in their pockets and huffing as he made way for the teleporter. "... Will we talk again? Oh no -- shit, I've made it worse. How do -- Then, she hugged her. The gesture almost stunned Elora more than her friend's excessively-expressive emotions. What should she do? Wrap her arms around her and hug her back? Offer some sort of additional collateral to make it up to her? As quickly as she had leapt into the embrace, Katoka began to withdraw from her. Is this just how women resolve their arguments? "T-thanks, I'll try not to let it get to me too much -- the worrying about not doing enough in a fight, I mean" She found it necessary to clarify that the female player's intimacy wasn't an issue, at least, I don't think that it is...is it...? Such a strong display of empathy was confusing and foreign to her, leaving her feeling unprepared to appropriately respond to Katoka's affirmation. Elora didn't feel like she deserved to be understood, or to be forgiven. However, she wasn't about to sacrifice the kindness that Katoka had shown to her, not after everything that she had put her and Chase through. On that note, their male companion barely seemed phased by either of their apologies. It was just as she'd feared, Just saying that I was sorry wasn't enough to make it up to him. I'll have to find some other way to... It didn't come as a surprise, but she couldn't deny that she was hopeful in thinking that they could reach a resolution so easily. She sighed and turned her attention back to Elora, "I think I might have messed that up a tad." she smiled rubbing the back of her head awkwardly. Walking back over to the green haired woman she grabbed both of her hands in her own, "We are friends Elora, at least I hope you think of me as a friend. So I don't want you to feel like you can't talk to me about things, or express yourself about anything. Friends are there for each other, and I don't want you to think that this is just some farce or that I'm hitting on you or something. You are my friend, and I want you to be happy." Feeling a bit emotional Kat let Elora's hands go and cleared her throat before turning away with pink cheeks, "Well then, shall we head back? I think since I killed the most enemies I owe you desert anyways." The samurai began walking alongside her spear wielding friend as they followed the path back to town. Katoka felt that while this quest and the events that took place surrounding it had been rough, it made her feel closer to Elora. Not so much Chase though.
