Sat still on a ship that drug from side to side, darkened waves cradling and shifting the vessel rather aggressively from end to end. His stomach churned with each roll and bow, breathing a sickness into his mouth that even he had trouble keeping dormant. An account and a memory of the days before riddled his mind as a form of comfort to still himself from the notion.

Two days prior...

Through per chance alone, an unplanned trip into the luminous blue films of Tartarus. Clarity sought and moments held ripe within his brow, the nomad did what he had to: He'd walk. Night held high, a time to which he found sanctuary from eyes he'd rather not attract. A click in his HUD as the day rolled over, reading back 12:00am 

Stricken like from a clock, a ring and with it a parade of white rolls along the Stygian Lake. It draws his focus through clear glass and with it a deep amethyst light. It was odd, to which a large raft in grim disrepair through silhouette alone. A step toward it, but then a recollection brought with it a sense of humility. It would be foolish to assume it standard.

Opening his menu and selecting the refined, his captains and judgement. He'd need their aid as The wanderer would not risk a repeat against time itself, the lightning still riddled the fibers in his system. Transposing the messages in tandem, one through the select few within his guild and another met only through a brief exchange against Sebastian and his sick beats.

Freyd knew the Stygian river all too well, having walked its shores many times of late.  @Haine and @Kiluia Seiko were in tow, doing whatever it was fiancés do.  He'd left them discuss their affairs twenty paces behind.  The constant canoodling was getting to be a bit much, especially given the number of tragedies involving the namesake waters they currently skirted.  Freyd's job was to guide and provide warning.  He knew his companions and their capabilities well.  They'd be fine, just as they will be in the coming challenge.  He'd completed it once already, but his memories were a bit hazy.  It was like a pall was cast over them, much like the damnable miasmic haze on this floor.

"Here!" He called out to the outline of the fourth captain, and also a friend.  "They're lollygagging behind me, as usual."  He jabbed a thumb over his shoulder indicating the approximate direction.  A titter and giggle echoes in the darkness.  It was probably Kiluia.  They'd not seen each other for some time, so the sound of his laughter was welcome despite its poorly suited setting.  The man's spirit was relentlessly optimistic, though, and they'd need that.

Freyd's tarnished blade was drawn.  He wouldn't risk travel here without it at the ready, and it blended well enough with the fog and his dark clothing.  His soft, cloth cowl was draped over his head, as always, concealing the penetrating gaze of the reddish-brown eyes within.  The rest of his garb was dark, pragmatic and functional; l Light for quick travel and ease of movement.

No-- NIGHT knew of the rumors. Trap or otherwise (what's the worst Raidou could do, barter her out of col?) the Norse event warranted only the best of the crop to face its challenges. And she'd barely remembered how the last run of the gauntlet had went.

So it was all in, or all out. The player sent off a quick invitation to Bahr, hoping the kingsmaker was in spirits enough to respond to the call for action. And whilst she was travelling by foot to the Stygian, her inventory kept her attention away from its hallowed interior and eerie atmosphere. The ghosts that lurked about the cavern were different than the ones most of the player base had proclaimed knowing.

Two candies melded together, harvested from one of her combat excursions a while back, that settled on just enough copies of food to feed a party of six. Sure enough, four other figures would become visible on the horizon -- if her luck and her message went through, that meant they had a full raid team going.

Not one to ignore his leader’s commands, he got the message and hauled himself to the designated place to meet Freyd. With Haine in tow, he managed to get himself the stuff needed at the vault and then met up with Freyd. Per usual, the man was right, he was on cloud nine with the engagement but hadn’t actually spoken to anyone really about it. The glaring detail that said anything was the ring on Haine’s finger. Eyes glanced over at Haine as he laced his fingers around hers and spoke to her. “Only been hearing rumors of this quest… I hear its supposed to be rough so we may meet some new people.” He smiled slightly as he looked forward. Freyd’s voice traveled back.

A slight grin was given as he spoke back to Freyd. “Haha.” He instinctively flexed his hands slightly at the quest. This was something new. The rumors of him hearing it earlier throughout the days were that it would require some heavy manpower to get through this. He wondered who he would meet as he looked over at what seemed to be Raidou. “Hey. What’s up?” He spoke to his leader. Before his leader would answer, he opened up his menu and pulled out the required items consuming them. The other items would be consumed as well at the time they were used.

What agenda brought such urgency in the middle of the night? The bluenette, albeit cranky from being disrupted from her slumber, slid out of bed. Her love stepped in to alert her of the exact agenda, a quest which would reap immense benefit. She nudged the cub at the foot of her bed awake. Strands of soft white hair flew about as the animal shook its frame. With that, she'd rallied the group to leave. She passed down the corridor to find a small ravenette crashed on the bed, with the lights still on. A new painting graced the canvas, watercolors strewn about the floor from her previous experiment. Haine smiled softly and switched the lights off.

"Night, Asmura."

With a few errands, they were off to the Stygian shores. A thicket blanket of fog traveled an eerie, starless sky. A chilly draft lingered, the wind howling akin to a scene from a horror film. She hooked her arms around Kiluia, more of an endearing gesture than much else. "I hate this place at night! Something's stalkin' us, I can feel it." She heeded only little of the man's words as her mind wandered elsewhere. "Hey, if a ghost tries to kill me, you'd step in front, would ya?" she jested, shooting him a doe-eyed look. She did not seem to spare Freyd of the PDA, just a shot down the path ahead of them. She giggled and squeezed Kiluia tighter. "Choose wisely, love."

She could hear an echo of the words Freyd shot over his shoulder once they'd reached the fourth captain. "Um, are not!" She protested, with a balled fist. Another draft of air sent a shiver up her frame. She pulled her cloak snug around her and flipped on the hood. She quickened her pace, approaching the figure revealed as Raidou. "Y'know it's serious when bossman calls us here in the buttcrack of midnight."

Bahr was a tad surprised to receive an invite from NIGHT, given her recent absence as of late. He was sure his ramblings about the dangers of leaning too heavily on buffs may have finally annoyed her to the extent that she'd chosen to continue on without her mentor. Better was she without the bug in her ear - or so she may have thought. And, possibly, she was correct.

He'd heard the whispers regarding this dungeon, the heinous monsters it encapsulated, and the promise of treasures for defeating them. And, so, when she invited him to tag along with a group of her friends, he obliged. And, upon arriving, he hypocritically indulged in the practical buffet of buffs that had been laid out before them - even going so far as to assist in the creation of feasts to better the party.

It was all in the spirit of merriment and good food. Surely.

"Sorry I'm late," he managed while smacking his gums on some of the food. "Had a thing. Angry old psychologist. I'm sure you understand."

He finished his helping and frisbee'd his dish away carelessly, discarding his fork in a nearby bush, or tree, or... something. He wasn't here to think too hard. He was just here to hit things.

"I'll be letting y'all take the lead on this one. I'm just here for some extra muscle."

A momentary pause with a band forming near the vessel, he'd pause and pull away at what they had gleaned for the journey as well. A welcome addition in preparations, there was safety in these sorts of numbers.  Fiddling with his lenses with the meal consumed he opens and confirms what it had done to his stats, to his side a black crow falls in a puff of feathers. It disappears into data as a fork rattles beneath where it expired.

"I appreciate everyone's quick migration, I am unsure what to expect here so what is necessary is no holds barred." Spoken as a smaller vessel breaches the sands at which they stood as if the game was welcoming them to the grave. Hopping up into the rowboat, he sits and waits for the others to join him. A sinking feeling of worry was present, not only could be possibly putting all of their lives in danger, but this could have been very possibly a good test subject since his last where he almost lost.

Making the last of his necessary preparations, Freyd nodded to @NIGHT and @Bahr, grateful for their participation.  He knew both by reputation.  The former had - rather strangely and randomly - given him his first weapon, Forgiven Disobedience.  Their recent exploits against the vile cuteness of the Easter Dungeon had reaffirmed his belief in her combat prowess.  Bahr he'd only heard of by name, and was eager to see in battle.  The others were all known and reliable quantities.  The captains of Firm Anima were not to be underestimated, especially when fighting as a unit.

"We shouldn't linger.  These shores are far from safe."  No sooner had he spoken the words than something large bobbed in the water just beyond the edge of the perpetual fog.  The Whisper's hooded gaze lingered on the spot long enough to stress the point, standing in as sentinel while he motioned everyone towards raidou's underwhelming and barnacle-encrusted boat.

She'd almost wanted to say something about their excessive use of consumables to Bahr. Almost, because Raidou's worry about their safety was one not to be trifled with. And possibly because she'd already been through this rodeo once.

 

Yeah, that's obviously it. Let's roll with that.

It was only when she'd clambered into the rowboat that she started sensing the system clawing at her form. Either it was the likes of the river, or the Stygian was really prosperous for stealth-ridden players; NIGHT felt a growl escape her as she attempted to take up little room on the vessel, hoping that her faded presence wouldn't be judged harshly by the rest of the alliance here. Peering into the fog, she could barely catch sight of any shadows or figures on the horizon, and wondered briefly as the rest of the rabble were pouring in how exactly they were going to find their way there.

She took a ride on someone else's ship last time, didn't she?

Now he was on a boat. When had that happened?

And what a foul thing it was. No more foul, Bahr mused, than the vibe put off by the other members of the party. Though he felt the wooden boards of the loosely constructed vessel bow beneath his weight as he stepped aboard, they did not fracture; which was more than could be said for the temperaments of his companions. When had everything become so serious? Was it not merely a year ago that the brave Aincradians had been locked away in mysterious tent with immeasurable waves of ghoulish undead nibbling at their ankles? Compared to then, this seemed like a walk in the park.

At least they could bring their own consumables. Bahr could still taste the Off-Brand Energy Drinks.

"Loosen up, guys. It'll sting less when you get hit if you're not so stiff," he chided jokingly, before glancing around and noticing they'd already lost two party members. He mentally ran the headcount twice before realizing he'd forgotten to count himself. Silly. Still, that meant one was missing. Where'd NIGHT gotten off to? And had that been a growl?

"Weird bunch," he finally concluded before sitting down. But something wasn't quite right. This seat was... bony. After adjusting his rump for a moment, he realized he was occupying the petite lap of the very woman he'd been searching for just a moment prior. "Oh, pardon," he called with a grunt as he shifted his weight to the side, sliding from his impromptu perch and assuming the position nearest her side. "That never happened."

He quickly acknowledged the fact that the shores of where they were at were not even remotely where he wanted to be. Haine’s question threw him for a loop as he looked at her. “Yes, I would step in front of it, but don’t they pass through?” He thought about it for a second before looking at two unfamiliar faces. He had not met the two before, but their names seemed to strike a chord with him. He had familiarized himself with the reputation mill for quite some time and when the names were introduced to his party status, he recognized them. He had never had the chance to have an encounter with them before until today. “No problem, Raidou.” He spoke as he glanced over at items consumed and offered to him as well.


After the consumption, he returned his attention to the boarding vessel before them. He hadn’t been on a boat since the adventure of Freyd setting his ass on fire. A quick glare was given at him before he slowly stepped on the vessel away from the other two to make room for the remaining three. Hand extended out to Haine to assist her to his side. Of course, the glare was just a kidding gesture hoping the man would remember the last time they were together on a boat. “Take it easy. Not exactly sure what’s in the water…” He said as he shifted his eyes into the dark depths. This was new. “Nice to meet you two.” He spoke to the two he hadn’t met. He offered a smile. “I’m Kiluia.”

"Hmm, fair point!" Haine added, with a wave of her finger. She fixed her attention at the band of players revealed beyond the mist. At larger ship accompanied a miniscule rowboat, a band of players at the shore. Each face remained indistinguishable until the fog cleared. She recognized all save for one. As much as she would've liked to jest, the tone of the moment shifted as orders were given. Haine spared a nod at the raven and the white haired man beside her. She'd chat with them in the boat once things settled. The ample amount of buffs meant business. On a typical endeavor, maybe half of these precautions were taken. She accepted the extra buffs and consumed them, although not without many thoughts in mind.

Bits and pieces of strength flowed through her. The rowboat remained empty and awaited their passage. "Heh, think we can all squeeze?" She stepped foot in the rowboat and picked a cozy spot near the middle. The polar cub leapt into her lap and curled up. She waited for the others and instead busied herself with the ball of fluff. A flip through her inventory pulled a small snack for the familiar to buff up.

Boat too small. Man too big. As Bahr cozied up on her lap, NIGHT felt her soul join the afterlife in the embarrassment -- it was only by luck and time that he'd leave and her spirit return. Not like it knew where it was going, at least, but in that split second of disconnection, she'd ushered the party in a singular direction into the mist.

Forward.

 

 

 

Fuck knows where forward was.

The quandries about how they'd gotten to their first destination could be set aside at a later date. It was a large boat that they would reach, after all, one duly fitting for King Roger and his band of merry pirates; but they weren't the occupants on this ship today, it seemed. Instead, a hulking form stood before them, shroud pooling at his feet just as the wails of the ghosts around them ushered the players not to tarry on their adventure.

Something something long dramatic speech from the man of purple. Something something-- who gives a crap?

From out of the abyss, NIGHT pelted off one of the pillars of the vessel, launching herself from above the giant on its rear, one massive sweep of her blade tearing a gash into the back of the criminal entity. It seemed to writhe with a snarl at her initiation, one paired up with a solemn death song, and as she landed she could spy her network of destruction stitching together a fine web of void, her venom starting to seep into the creature, the fiend and foe.

-- She totally just skipped over the giant's tragic backstory.

"Oh, right!"  Freyd's fogged-up memories of his last visit to this damnable finger-nail barge finally started to resurface.  "I remember this dude.  He's actually kind of a lightweight.  We could have him down before he even spawns his adds."  Seeing the immediate effects of NIGHT's strike, he charged forward.  Aiming for the opposite side, he triggered the crystal he'd picked up for precisely this moment. It wasn't the most devastating of blows, but he'd managed to clip a proper chunk of the frost giant's side along with removing a corresponding amount from his health bar.  

"Have at him!"  Freyd encouraged.  "The faster we get him down, the sooner we get to throw ourselves over the side!"  An uncharacteristic and maddened cackle accompanied the words.  As insane as it was, he'd actually enjoyed the rush of it all in his previous run and was looking forward to seeing how this group fared against the dungeon compared to the previous one.  We can do even better.

Oh. Now the battle had started. That was... sudden. But far be it from Bahr to stand in the way of a good throwdown.

No sooner had one boot made it to land than the other stamped into the deck before the beast. Though the darkness and hazy miasma that surrounded them cut down visibility, the vibrant scarlet glow and crackles of electric energy emanating from Dawn's Demise ironically offered enough light for him to find his mark. As Bahr reeled his blade back to strike, the noise from the crystal he'd deployed on the rowboat finally caught up with him and prevented Hyrm from having the accuracy it needed to black the incoming strike. 

Three rapid downward slams of his blade later, and the mighty Hyrm was little more than a plug for the new hole in the ship's deck. Satisfied with his handiwork, Bahr took a few paces back and placed the dull side of his sword's blade against his shoulder. He marveled over the ogre-turned-turtle trying to flip itself over, with nothing to show for it. If nothing else, at least the others wouldn't have any trouble hitting it.

"Dunno how long he'll stay like this," Bahr declared, stifling a laugh. "The rest of y'all should get it while the gettin's good."

The boat was swaying back and forth as they sat together wading through the black waters. He was tempted to remember that old classic cartoon Dark Waters or something to that extent that he watched online at one point in time in his life. His eyes just seemed to focus on the murky depths ready for just anything to pop out of the water. When the boat came to a stop across wherever they landed, the ride was anti-climatic for him. “Well damn.”

When the boat settled, he watched as Night take off as fast as they landed. Exactly what did she see since he was so transfixed on the water? Oh. A Giant. The lumbering monster wailed loudly as the onslaught of attacks poured on from the initial three people who were off the boat first. He stood up and dusted off his pants before squatting down to a low position. With all of his might he leapt with every ounce of energy poured into his legs. Body leaned forward as he made just one leap to it toward the Giant’s face. With his target marked, he passed all the other ones ahead and all power was placed within his right fist that met the bridge of the nose of the Giant. The Giant was pushed away from the rest of the group but the attack made him… a target for now. “Whoops.”

Thus began the voyage to the unknown island, through turbulent winds and darkened skies. flash of lightning every so often reminded her of the impending battle. The cub in her lap trembled. "Aw, don't worry bud! Here." The woman tucked the cub into her coat, large and full of secrets. As they neared the dungeon's entrance, a bright light broke through the horizon. The shift in scenery was all but surreal, sending Haine on a trip. What next? Golden eyes stayed tense in pursuit of anything lurking among the waters.

A purple glow, followed by the appearance of a mysterious Herculean presence threw her off guard. "W-W- How'd it get on here?!" She pointed at the hideous troll-like creature, disregarding whatever escaped his lips. It was of little concern to her over her preparations to battle. The group fell into habitual formation. She scrambled for the rest of her buffs while the others went into play. From afar, she spared what little time she had to gather her bearings. Divine Piercer in hand, she went in with a flash.

Nothing more than a glare through mirrored lens draws the ire of the creature, the large purple creature looked coined to pose with a hamburger was outmatched clearly. It's organs look to escape its gullet in a blackened ichor, while it is beat from every angle like a punching bag. What transpires is a comical rendition of someone walking into a room and being slapped by a giant white rubber hand lying in wait. It was not prepared or ready for anything that had come.

Now prone and in feigned pain, it sweeps out haphazardly and clips an awaiting weapon from the swordsman who owned its anger. Taking a minuscule amount of damage, Raidou scoffs in silence as a choir of weapons lording over him in a multitude of colors become ablaze with high pitched whirs as sword arts charged. The only hope was, that the ship would survive what was to come next.

A finger snap, and the fight was over.

Or at least, it would've been, according to NIGHT's inaccurate calculations. Just when her effects had pulsated, the giant's declining health slowly trickled to a crawl, failing to meet the end of the gauge by one slither of red.

Figures. She'd groan as she paced towards its location -- somehow, the poor beast was still stuck fast to the ground, even as it struck out attempting to hit anyone within range. With one ungracious uppercut from her blade, what was left of its form was nothing but sparkling data fragments.

The wind -- and the ghosts -- seemed to howl at that revelation. Each unfortunate soul watched as the passing vessel continued to sail without a captain, the players on board doomed for an unfortunate demise. At least, that was what the entities figured, just as the band of adventurers had known little of what was in store for them. To their surprise, and the spirits' amusement, the bland environment surrounding the boat began to turn.

One look overboard.

They were about to be cast into the depths of a whorl.

Peering into the dark abyss as the ship listed heavily to the starboard side, Freyd knew full well what was coming next.  It had happened once already and would likely happen again.  He'd rather gotten used to the fact that he messed up out of the gate, nearly every time.

*SPLORCH*

The sickly sound of digital flesh impacting a sludge-covered beach laden with seaweed was not more enticing to experience than to witness.  A Freyd-shaped impact crater now marred the perfectly blighted beach, featuring one matching, prone, and very soggy Freyd.  He made a sticky, suction-like noise as he pulled himself from the ground, extricating his face from whatever slimy goo it was made of, because it certainly wasn't sand.  His cowl was wet, and that upset him, because he put so very much effort into keeping it clean and pristine.

Sigh.

One side of him was soaking wet, and the other side was soaking wet and muddy.  Sludge still dripping from his body, he wandered away from the beach and soon discovered the ancient ruins where Hel sat, creepily awaiting them.  

"Hey, lady.  Remember me?  I looked just like this last time too.  So let's just repeat our last encounter, shall we?  Your face, needs to be right here."  He pointed down at the pommel of his sword.  She stood, slowly, revealing the full extent of her decrepit form.  Seizing the opening, raced forth to deliver his blow, only to trip and stagger on the assorted jetsam strewn all of the floor.  His action wasted, he stumbled to reclaim his footing, his pride having been cast aside as a lost cause, long ago.
