[SP-F2 QUEST] Breaking the Unbreakable – Rock on! [COMPLETE]

Recommended Posts

Mari was restless, and wandering around on the second floor; she didn’t really have any reason to be on the first floor anymore. She had somehow began to snowball skyward with her levels. Soon, the second floor would be completely useless to her too. But before that happened, Mari told herself she’d at least try to explore the place further than the grassy plains and town.

(bonus for all reading, count the puns!)

Exiting the town Mari headed West, it could have been West, it may very well have been East – or North, Mari wasn’t good with directions. Be it taking them, following them or understanding them on those confounded maps. If it weren’t for modern technology and GPS tracking, she’d never make it to the grocery store. There wasn’t exactly much there, except a solitary boar, pressing its wet snout into the ground. One boar? Mari could take that on, she could probably take three on at this stage! Equipping her dagger the girl grinned; charging to the beast who had yet to notice she was there.

"YEH!" Mari cried in excitement, as her dagger sliced across the boars torso, a large digital gash flickered across the creature before it disappeared.

The boar whinnied, it’s body falling to the floor with an almighty crash, it scrambled to get up, hoofed feet pushing the large, bristly haired beast up off the ground. It’s crimson eyes narrowed, as it charged without warning toward the girl.

It’s angry charge was all for naught, as the girl gracefully sidestepped the attack – the boar’s tusks imbedded into the ground.

Mari turned and had to stop the battle for a moment, cupping her hands over her mouth she giggled as she watched the boar struggle to pull its tusks out from the ground, “Oh my, have a nice trip? “ Mari asked between stifled giggles. “I hope it wasn’t too much of a bore!”

Still snorting Mari readied her dagger in an attempt to attack again.

Mari thrust the dagger into the boars backside, it burst into polygons. The girl was proud of herself, when she first started playing , it took her anywhere between 3-4 hits before one of the dimwitted beasts fell. Now, it was only half that. Soon, hopefully – she’d be able to wipe them out in a single blow. Mari leant down, checking for loot.

Mari didn’t expect much, a pittance in coal, but it was better than nothing. Which the girl seemed to get more often than not. With a sigh Mari dusted herself off and continued on her way.

“I suppose this floor hasn’t  got much to offer after all…” Mari murmured, turning on her heel to walk in another direction. She liked the plains, they were a pleasant temperature, the grass was soft; and the air smelt clean and crisp. She had heard words along the grapevine, about a dessert floor. Something she didn’t want to experience, at all. Heat? Sand? No thank you! She’d take sunshine, fields or the beach any day.

Mari kicked up a loose pebble, which skipped twice along the ground before knocking into a very angry lookin player’s ankle, the player in question – a youth who looked to have a wild green Mohawk shot her a dark glare, shouting, mumbling about rocks, boulders, pebbles; cursing granite under his breath He pointed an accusing finger at Mari, “You’ll fall just the same! We all crumble! We ALL CRUMBLE!” He muttered the words as he stormed off, shoving her to the side as he passed her.

Mari, never being one to hold her tongue, shouted out after him, “Hey, next time how about censored in the censored maybe then you’ll censored !” She snorted, “The heck was THAT all about??”

The lanky rocker wannabe was the first player to come across her, but certainly not the last. Mari had to wonder about his bold fashion statements, guess some people must dig that look. Not Mari, no fraking way. Her trek in the field had gone off with a rocky start; poor loot from the boar, a crazed man. What next? As though fate had a cruel game in mind for her, Mari bumped into more players, this time – a trio of chattering blonde characters; they looked to Mari then whispered amongst themselves before breaking into stifled giggles. Mari raised an eyebrow; there weren’t normally that many players in this field.

Just what was going on?

Mari was at an impasse, she hated crowds of players -  but she was curious as to what was making them amass here. Mari continued walking, kicking the pebble she had dishevelled earlier along with her as she walked. “I’ll get to the bottom of this, the rock bottom!” Mari muttered to herself, with a grin. She thought she was rather igneous- what with all these jokes. As Mari was walking, focusing on her precious pebble; she nearly ran into a lone Frenzy Plant. Mari stumbled backward, almost falling, but after some fancy footwork she was able to regain her composure.

“Oh gosh, really?”

Snap, Snap, Snap – SNAP!

It’s  final snap missed Mari by mere inches as she managed to ungracefully topple backward, the plant chattered, swaying side to side as it assessed its target, before striking again.

Mari held out her arm, allowing the plant to sink into her flesh. It wasn’t as painful as she remembered. Was it because she was growing stronger? Or that such afflictions were so commonplace that she had develop a tolerance for it?

Using her other hand, Mari jabbed the dagger into the fleshy underside of the plants head

The Frenzy Plant shuddered, and let go of her arm, leaving behind a wet trail of translucent green ooze. “Oh gross…” Mari muttered as she tried to shake it off herself.

As it went in for the 'kill' Mari angrily bopped it on its head with a clenched fist, not doing any damage but causing the plant to shake its head in confusion. If it had eyes they would probably widen as if to say "did YOU just HIT me?"

“Ha!” Mari cried, “Did you bite off more than you can chew? Maybe I should weed out the weaklings eh?” Mari joked, “Too bad I can’t photo-sympathize with you!” She joked again as she bought the blade down over the plant.

FRENZY PLANT DEFEATED

Mari grinned, watching the plant shrivel up and die before her. She was getting stronger. soon such things won't be such a problem...soon she'd be able to wipe them out in a single strike. Mari wasn't exactly a fighter nor one who cared about physical prowess, but she had to admit, the knowledge that she could knock out a plant in just two hits, in comparison to the five it took when she first joined...it made her somewhat happy.

The loot wasn't great, but better than nothing. Mari dusted herself off, ensuring all the slobber, dirt and dust was off her person before she continued toward where the players had come from.

The pink haired woman had been walking for a good 10 minutes now and had yet to see any other players, or indication that she was going the right way. She was almost wanting to give up, “Why the heck did I agree to do this anyway?” Mari mumbled to herself, along with a string of cuss words better left unsaid. After all, no person, let alone a young pink haired lady should ever be heard uttering such words.

Just as all hope seemed lost; the young; lets pretend she’s not foul-mouthed girl noticed something upon the horizon.

“What the censored is that?”

Mari could see something...it was an odd something, at least it was odd as far as something’s on the horizon go, but it was something, and that something was something at least.

Mari trudged toward this odd something, something – mumbling obscene words to herself. As she got closer, she noticed little dots; which moved around like misinformed ants. Were they other players?

Tudge, Trudge, mutter – mutter, Trudge, Truge, mutter-mutter

They WERE other players! How did Mari know this? Well, one was coming toward her, running as fast as his little legs could carry him. This running player was a pudgy fellow, short and portly, and he had a spear strapped to his back. He didn’t stop to say hello. He just ran past the pink haired girl, screaming about a rock.

“If he has a rock in his shoe, why doesn’t he just take the damn thing out?” Mari muttered to herself.

Continuing forward, Mari encountered a few players here and there; and yet again she heard about this dastardly rock. Soon, Mari deducted that there was a big ol’ rock in people’s way, and they were trying to break it but were having no such luck. Mari wasn’t the strongest person around, in fact she was probably one of the least strongest – but she had something these players didn’t have.

Tact.

oh wait, she didn’t have that either.

Brains. She had Brains.

Not long now…Not long now..

Mari had to repeat that mantra in her head, she wanted to get to this thing now; she wanted to see for herself what all this fuss was about. Why all these seemingly perfectly capable players couldn’t break a single rock, or boulder, or whatever it was. Regardless it was a big giant thing that was blocking the path of not big giant things.

No matter how far she walked it seemed as though it wasn’t really getting any closer, just what was going on with this stupid boulder? Did it have magical abilities that made it stay forever on the horizon?

FINALLY! Mari got to the big bad boulder , it was as though some outside force was delaying her trek to the stupid thing, as though they had delayed her by….oh…say 17 posts worth of length, rambling on with nonsensical dialogue and words to fill up some predetermined quota to gain some sort of minimal prize.

Mari mulled this little thought over in her head, then thought that would be silly, because to have that happen to her would mean that she was being controlled by someone. Or even worse. She was just a figment of someone’s imagination.

But Mari was real, yessiree bob.

Breathing a sigh of much needed relief Mari collapsed onto the ground in front of the monument and looked up.

Looking up, Mari didn’t see why people were having so much trouble with it. It didn’t seem too oversized. If Mari were to stand next to the hunk of a chunk it’d sit just a head taller than she was.  The last of the players seemed to be hacking and slashing at it with their swords in an attempt to get it to break.

Sitting on the floor in a pout Mari watched them as she caught her breath. "Geez...you're all a bunch of barbarians..." She muttered under her breath.

Mari watched, the other players didn’t exactly try a variety of different techniques; just different weapons – and it was clear to her that this….quest…wasn’t going to be beaten by any sort of weapon. She had a dagger. If a giant sword or spear couldn’t crack or dislodge the boulder than surely her itty bitty excuse of a knife wouldn’t make the cut. “Hmph.” She pouted, “As if they haven’t noticed that ISN’T going to work.”

One by one, the other players had begun to leave; disgruntled at their failure. Mari watched, carefully. They were all just using their weapons, if spears, glaives and sword’s didn’t work against it her teeny tiny dagger didn’t stand a chance. Mari noticed something else; the scratches on the surface of the boulder, they had disappeared seconds after they were inflicted. “Curioser and Curiouser.” Mari mumbled in a sing song voice, feeling as though she was like Alice down a very boring rabbit hole.
