SP F7: Collecting Materials; This is the song that never ends! [COMPLETE]

Recommended Posts

Mari needed Materials, and her last Material run was interrupted by Zero. Not that she really minded his company - but she had received word from her shop NPC - Nala that she was low. That she only had about a day's worth of Materials left. Mari sighed. If she knew that being a performer wasn't very profitable she would not have picked it. Still....the monster grenades were pretty useful.

She was in the same caves that she was in before with Zero, satchel at her side she was using her dagger to chip away at the wall.

Mari sighed, she seemed to have had more luck last time she attempted this, she hadn't managed to find anything yet, then again she had only just started. To give up so early or become so easily frustrated. It'd be like pulling a Moartea. Mari gave a small laugh, as she thought of Moartea, and how hard he worked when collecting materials - but at how easily frustrated he got when he was unsuccessful.

Mari was still unsuccessful and decided to move a few steps down, closer to the depths of the cave; she was going to be meticulous. She wanted to grab a wohle bunch. Exactly how much that 'bunch would be, who knew? 20? 30?  If only....

It was quiet and a soft breeze blew past from the cave entrance - the sounds of her dagger hitting against the wall echoed around her in a light, rhythmic fashion. It was really quite peaceful. Mari took a deep breath and let out a long, low breath. She could see how Alkor preferred to  be alone. It was oddly calming. Even if she was unsuccessful. again there seemed to be nothing in the wall - so again, Mari took one step closer toward the depths of the cave. She let her fingers trail along the soft crystal vein in the wall. She was bound to find something soon.

Soon couldn't come soon enough, it seemed that whatever luck Mari had earlier had long since packed up and left, and didn't even leave a goodbye note.Despite following the vein, and carefully working her dagger into the small crevices of the cave wall, she was coming up empty. Mari took a step back from the wall and crossed her arms over her chest. What could she be doing wrong. Mari shrugged, you win some you loose some, and right now Mari was loosing.

Not that she was loosing anything, except precious time.

"Right!" Mari placed the handle of her dagger between her teeth as she rolled up her sleeves; she wasn't going to get anywhere just staring blankly at a wall Mari grabbed her dagger and moved onto the next spot, with each step she was further and further away from the entrance, another several and she'd be in deeper and it'd be darker. Mari sighed. "Perhaps I should invest in the Night Vision skill at some point..." She muttered to herself. Moartea seemed to find it very useful. She should find it pretty useful as well, and who was to say that one of the future floors wouldn't be in perpetual night?

Another step and another unsuccessful attempt at finding her precious recording crystals, she had a lot of luck when she was out with her guild. Now she was alone. She seemed to have none. Mari sighed, pausing to rest her forehead against the cave wall, it was cool to the touch and it was a welcomed sensation. "hmmmm...." Mari shifted her gaze deeper into the cavern. She could use her SP to gain night vision right now....but she was aiming to max out her dagger, that was her current priority. Mari would continue further down till she could barely see, then switch to the other side of the cavern, working her way back to the entrance - then - then - she'd go further into the cavern.

Mari had started on a new section of wall, she thrust her dagger into the crevice; rock and dirt broke away and a small crystal dropped out. Mari caught it before it hit the floor and dusted it off before holding it up to her face to inspect. Perseverance. That's all it took. Mari had one material, and if that was all she walked away with today, at least she would know that she walked away with something rather than nothing. Mari wordlessly placed it into her satchel and rather than move stayed stationary in the same place - hoping that it would yield another few materials.

Success is short lived, and Mari obtaining another mat straight off the bat was just simply wishful thinking. Especially since she hadn't moved from her spot. Mari had to stop for a moment, shoving the dagger loosely in her satchel Mari shook out her hand before rubbing them together. She needed to get the blood flowing back into her fingers, she had only just started and had a long, long way to go. Mari wasn't deterred though, she'd keep going. Mari told herself she wasn't going to leave with any less than 6 materials, enough for two days of crafting. She had wanted more - but at this rate she may not get her wish.

Now that her hand was no longer tingling Mari picked up up her dagger, moving further into the cave; she was just at the entrance of another tunnel; after here she'd head back to the entrance of the cave and work her way down the other side of the cavern. Ensuring she was getting every nook and cranny. Mari was fairly meticulous when it came to these sorts of things, and in this instance that attention to detail came in handy, for another small material fell free from the wall. Mari bent down to pick it up, shoving it straight into her satchel. Excellent. 2 down, at least 4 to go! If she continued in this positive direction, she'd gun for more.

Mari picked stretched and gave a yawn as she went toward the front entrance, hand travelling along the opposite wall she had been working on previously. She found a few veins. Grinning, she wasn't sure who suggested this cave; but she would have to remember to thank whoever it was later. She bought out her dagger and started chiselling away, sure enough another clump had fallen out. What Luck! She now had a days worth of materials for Nala to use. Mari had to wonder if the NPC actually managed to sell any monster grenades or not.

Yet another crystal fell out from the wall. "Oh my..." Mari muttered as she bent down to pick it up. It was unexpected. She had 4 materials now; and it seemed she was picking up momentum. Her luck changing, changing for the better. Mari wanted to milk it while it lasted. She knew how finicky spelunking could be, and that it could quickly go all downhill from here.

Mari took a step to the side, working in the same format she had done for the previous wall, being sure to hit every part of it.

Well, her lucky streak had to end somewhere; Mari was just grateful it went as long as it did. Mari tried chipping away at the layers of dirt that covered the vein of material, but it seemed that this time, that vein was too deep - at least in this section of wall. Mari reached over her head, chipping away at that, then bent down, chipping away at the dirt on the ground. Alas, she yielded nothing. Mari shrugged, stepping to the side and working on the next section of wall.

Today was already deemed a success, and she had a long way to go yet.

Working on the wall in the same, lengthly, tedious process- Mari had accidentally hit her hand. "OW! censored!" She dropped her dagger and shook her hand, it wasn't bleeding badly, but it would still cause some damage, and it would inhibit her ability to effectively search for any more materials till the bleeding stopped. Mari placed her hand into her mouth. cursing silently at herself as she took a break from her tasks, leaning her back against the wall.

Dammit. Her luck went from fantastic to abysmal in a matter of minutes.

Mari, after attempting to stop the bleeding decided 'to hell with it' She picked up her blade in her still bloodied hand and attempted to strike at the wall, grimacing through the pain. "Ugh..." She gritted her teeth, breath hissing as she continued. She noticed her health bar fall, ever so slightly as she sustained damage from the bleeding. Mari failed to find any loot, she sighed as she switched hands, wiping her bloodied hand on the satchel. It seemed that the bleeding had stopped.

Good.

Now that the bleeding had stopped it was as though she had a new found resolve, Mari was right back into the grit of it. On a new section of wall she, just like every other part she had worked on - meticulously struck her dagger between the crevices where the veins of material lay behind unknown layers of rock, stone and dirt. 'clunk' her dagger hit something hard and, as she pulled it away she noticed another crystal, lightly wedged into a small hole within the wall.  Mari pried it free with her fingers and placed it into her satchel.

Mari, once AGAIN moved onto the next section of wall. She had been at it for a good hour or so and hadn't made it past  the first cavern. Of course, after this she'd move down, further into the cave. Depending on her luck she would continue deep into the caverns; however Mari wasn't 100% sure how far in she would actually go. She already had a good 2 days worth of materials, and that was her original goal.

Mari was absently chipping away at the wall and almost didn't notice the crystal fall out and onto the floor. It was only as she was about to move on and step on it did she notice it. "O-OH! Sh*t!" Mari exclaimed as she bent down, dusted it off, picked it up and placed it into her satchel.

Mari travelled down into the cavern; the light was quickly swallowed up by darkness. Mari could still see, but only just. She had the light Crystal that Moartea had given her that day when they were mining for Materials. It served as a soft light source, but it wasn't quite good enough to efficiently mine with. If Mari had it turned into a necklace perhaps that'd help? She'd need an artisan... or something Similar. Mari let her fingers trace along the wall, feeling for a vein of crystal.

Finding one she attempted to strike it with her dagger, but was unsuccessful, her eyes had yet to adjust to the dim light.

It was hard work, harder than she had anticipated; working in the dark. She was in the corridor- and had decided to not be as meticulous here, she'd work on the one side going deeper in, and if she had time she'd backtrack on the opposite side on the way out. She was still adjusting to the light, so her dagger fumbled in her hand as she struggled to hold the light crystal above where she was working. Juggling holding the crystal, feeling the wall and jamming her dagger into the crevices proved to be a hard task.

Juggling it all may be a hard task, but no task was too hard for Mari to cry out in exhaustion or to just give up. No, Mari knew that anything worth gaining involved a lot of hard work, and patience. Mari paused, wiping her brow with her sleeve and took a few deep, slow breaths. Choosing to slow down. This wasn't a race and she wasn't in any sort of rush. Her calm demeanour and patience paid off, as another crystal fell free from the wall - falling to the floor. Mari bent down to pick it up. Grinning. "On a roll today." She said to herself, feeling pretty proud of her accomplishment.

Mari decided to play it not-so-smart. She placed the Light Crystal between her teeth and tried working that way. It didn't work out too well for the pink clad girl. She fumbled, dropping the crystal from her mouth, it hit against the floor, and Mari tried her best to ignore it  - continuing to lightly tap against the wall to try and pry more precious materials from it, but each and every time she failed. "Ugh..." She gave a heavy sigh as she went and picked up the crystal. If only she had pockets. She'd be able to loosely hang it in one of those.
