» About:

Steven grew up in America. Florida, more specifically. His parent's weren't particularly rich, but they managed a stable life. He was always sort of a loner, always keeping to himself, and only opening up to small groups at a time throughout gradeschool. His hobbies mainly revovled around anything he could do on his computer, gravitating towards games and anime, naturally. After loafing around for a few years after finishing highschool, he lamented that he wasn't really getting anywhere with his life. He'd always had a certain interest, and indeed talent in game development, particularly envrionmental design. He'd worked for a few companies in America right out of highschool, as he was attending college to earn his degree, but he just wasn't getting the satisfaction he desired. He felt that Americans just didn't have the right... tastes for his creative style. Looking back on it, he chalked it up to his affinity for anime in his youth.

Thus after completing his degree, he emigrated to Japan, where he felt his talents would be utilized to their greatest potential. With no small amount of generosity from his parents, and sheer luck, he successfully made it to Japan in 2019, already feeling immensely out of his depths in the foreign culture. He spent a long, awkward year in Japan, slowly learning the language and trying to get his foot in the door for any and all companies that would hire him. They seemed to look down on the idea of having an American in their company, and so it was not until two years later, when the NerveGear was announced, did he finally have some luck.

With the announcement of such a major piece of technology, the company behind it, Argus, was looking for any and all developers to help usher in a new era in gaming. Steven was hired, and was one of the many developers who helped breathe life into this new game, Sword Art Online. Under the direction of Kayaba Akihiko, they had created a true masterpiece. After a hard years worth of work, Steven being subjected to the strictest and tighest deadlines and standards in his life, the game was finally ready for its first test, the Closed Beta. Steven had been selected by his department head to go into the game with the selected testers in order to truly test their work. Who better to test the environment than one of the people who worked hard to make it?

The month-long Beta had actually been quite uneventful. Steven had not been especially interested in the game itself, leaving the actual gameplay to the players. He would still show up to the Floor Boss battles, sure, but he was never really much help in clearing them. He'd often get distracted by any bugs he found along the way, frequently getting himself killed because he was too busy staring at a rock, or some innocuous bush. Before he'd even realized it, the test was over and it was back to crunch time fixing the veritable mountain of bugs uncovered.

But there was always a lingering sense of longing in Steven... that month he'd spent in Aincrad had been... well he had felt more alive than ever. Just being to experience the fruit of his and his company's labors, and have it come off so amazingly lifelike was... surreal. He needed more of it. With no small effort on his part, he'd secured himself a copy of the game and a NerveGear of his own. So what if employees weren't supposed to have copies of the game? His supervisors didn't know what he did in his off time, and it could stay that way.

If only he'd known...

» Appearance:

He stands at an average height, his blue eyes matching his equally blue hair. He's immediately identifiable as American. I guess not all stereotypes are baseless. His weapon of choice is a long two-handed glaive which he uses to strike his enemies with from a distance.

» Virtues
 Â» Detail-Oriented

» According to his bosses, this was his greatest strength, and why they chose him out of anyone else in his department to go into the game for the Beta. He could always pick out the most minute details of anything, a talent which helped him greatly in his line of work. He could always spot the errors his coworkers overlooked.

 Â» Calm and Collected

» Steven is unrustleable, he believes the only way to survive in this game is to never let it control you. The moment you give in, and let the game control your emotions, you die. Thus he faces each and every challenge with a calm mind, knowing that it's do or die.

 Â»
Knowledgeable

» Steven worked for Argus, he had a hand in crafting this land they're all trapped in. Specifically he was an environmental / level designer, meaning he has a working knowledge of serval locations within the game, as well as an overall understanding of how the game is designed. It's not something he flaunts, however. He feels that if the other players knew he was involved, however indirectly, in their imprisonment in this death game, that he'd barely last the night before being killed.

» Flaws
 Â» Cold

» People seem to view Steven as cold and uncaring. They mistake his blank expresssion for one of disinterest. In some ways, he prefers the fact other players keep their distance, how could he possibly have time to make friends when every day spent in this virtual nightmare is a day gone from his life?

 Â» Untrusting

» Steven feels that his significant age gap from the majority of the playerbase alienates him. Most of the players trapped in this terrible world are barely half his age, how is he supposed to relate to them? How is he supposed to entrust his life to them? He was spending 8 hours a day playing WoW before any of them were even conceived!

 Â» Loner

» Steven has always kept to himself, that's just how he is. Throughout his entire life he's never really had all that many friends, sure there was always a group here and there, but never for very long and never that seriously. He's always lived on the fringes, and he's not going to change that just because he's trapped in a prison of, quite literally, his own design.
