Deep within the Forest of Wavering Mist, from which screams emanate every night, lays in wait a precious pendant inside the stone tomb of King Minos according to rumors. All who trek in the search for this jewel beware the denizens of this forest, the twin level 10 Minotaur's awaiting on opposite entrances of the tomb, and the maze the forest itself creates. Many either fall to the one of the two Hoya Minotaurs or are lost forever in the maze. Good luck my children.

Requirements:

-At least one [1] Page (21 or more posts)

-One of the two Hoya Minotaurs must be defeated

Hoya Minotaur Information:

<<Hoya Minotaurs>> are respawning Quest Bosses and each one has the following statistics:

HP: 45

Damage per Attack: 30

Rewards:

  1. Party Leader will be gifted the <<Hoya of Minos>>, a sought out gift for weddings, dates and birthdays. The Hoya of Minos is a pendant that changes form every time someone does the quest so it has a variety of appearances, though it always remains a pendant.

  2. 2 Skill Points

    @Beat @Teion @Soredell

Although the specs cited for the monsters on the journey were weak, to say the least, Shield did have a love of mythology. He had already tangled with Cerberus, and now that there was a chance to slay the mighty, or in this case not so mighty, Minotaur, who was he to pass up on the opportunity. He fired messages off to a few of the friends he had encountered in his journeys before banging on the door of Beat's kitchen.

"I'm heading to the third floor to slay the Minotaur," he called out loudly enough to be heard even over the hiss and sizzle of a hot wok. "If you want to be a part of mythology, meet me on the third floor in an hour!"

With that, he made his way down the road towards the teleportation plaza for floor eleven. There were no encounters with ant men, which suited him just fine. He and Beat and worked hard to find the safest and least infested routes to and from their home and shops, and so far, it seemed to be paying off.

He made his way into town, and with a shout of his destination to the teleporter, he vanished, reappearing on the third floor.

Beat hummed to himself as he always did when getting into the "zone" while cooking. The art of combining different ingredients and flavors and being able to immediately see the results made for an engaging and efficient profession. As a result Shield's shouting started him out of his trance and the clang of the wok could be heard as he nearly dropped it.

"Sweet! Be right there!" He shouted back, quickly closing his cafe and running to catch up to Shield. They had mapped out the safe route to and from their home, but they still occasionally ran into trouble, so he didn't want Shield having to grind out combat alone. Horus flew above them as they made the significant trek to the town on the eleventh floor, scouting ahead for danger.

Reaching their destination, they teleported to the third floor where Shield seemed to be content to wait for something.

"Are we waiting for someone?" He said with an inquisitive expression on his face.

As soon as Soredell had gotten the message, he made his way to the requested meeting point, but not before sending his own message to Shield in reply. "I'll see you there. I sure as hell am not missing this." . This time it was Floor 3, for the mission "Search for the Hoya", a mission inspired by the Greek myth of the minotaur. He had seen a fair share of minotaurs in this game, so he hoped that these minotaurs would look more significant, and do the tale justice. Arriving in the town he runs out of the teleport gate, heading straight for the meeting point. As he runs, he tries to keep a look out for any materials, anything of note, but for now, no dice. Eventually, he gets to the meeting point, seeing Shield and Beat already present. Slowing his pace, he says "Hey you guys, we waiting on someone else or is it just us?" he asks.

No sooner than Teion had rubbed the sleepiness from her eyes, the rare alert of a message in her menus grabbed the blacksmith's attention. The violet-haired woman let out a yawn before propping herself up on her elbows and lazily scrolling through her interface to pull up Shield's message. "Mm? That quest is pretty low level..." She mumbled to herself, a frown quickly taking over her expression as she realized despite the quest's level, she still hadn't completed it. A small sigh escaped from her lips. The woman had allowed herself the luxury of sleeping in that day, something she hardly found herself doing anymore, so now that she was awake she might as well get herself in gear.

Teion made an effort to hurry as she still had to make the trip from Fortaleza to Armadillo before she could use the teleport gate to reach the third floor. She only assumed she was the last the arrive when she spotted the familiar faces waiting around at Delilah's teleport gate. The woman raised a hand in greeting, offering a quiet "Yo." as she prepared to follow their lead once the group was ready to leave town.

Shield nodded to the newcomers as they arrived, simply addressing Soredell's question by stating, "I just thought I'd get the band back together."

Upon Teion's approach, he gave her a wave and beckoned her over.

"Good," he said. "Everyone made it. I think this should be pretty quick and straight-forward. If you have any questions, feel free to ask while we walk."

Now that the four of them had assembled, he pulled up the navigation menu that he had gotten out of the information broker. It had been a hard negotiation, but since it was such a low level mission, all it took was a little persistence and the promise of making a few appraisals when the broker had something that needed looked at.

The path to the forest was uneventful, and unfortunately for Shield, not profitable, yielding nothing craftable. Still, it was exciting knowing that they were going to be encountering a little piece of mythic history, even if it was a little under-leveled for the party. As they approached, he switched out for his battle gear, making sure he would be ready.

Beat had a certain bounce in his step as they traveled, the idea of taking on a mythical creature like the legendary minotaur was hard to not get at least a little excited for. He looked to Teion and raised an eyebrow at her level. She seemed to be roughly the same level that she had been since the last time they ventured together. Still she was a hell of a blacksmith, so he decided to not risk offending her. It wasn't his place to judge and he couldn't expect everyone to be as motivated to get to the front lines as he and Shield.

"So, it's been a while guys. What have you been up to?" He said as he turned around and began walking backwards so he could look at Teion and @Soredell

As he awaited their response, Horus swooped down and landed on his shoulder, dropping a small piece of silk into his hand. He admired it for a moment before stashing it with the rest of his materials and giving his familiar as soft stroke on the back of his head.

Soredell nods to @Teion as she arrives for the quest. After doing one final check over to make sure he has everything he needs, he turns to Shield saying "No questions from me. Lead on." before following the group towards the forest where apparently this minotaur is located. The journey into the forest was quiet, Soredell not really initiating any sort of conversation with the others, opting to take in the scenery around him. During the walk, he spots something lying on the ground. Moving towards it, he picks it up and dusts it off, finding that he is rewarded with a material. He smiles before sending it to his inventory, knowing it'll be used sooner or later. He hears Beat talk, and turns to respond. "Nothing much honestly. Just being going through the grind, levelling up, trying to get to the Frontlines, the usual." he says, before remembering something about the two. "So Beat, Shield, how have things been for the two of you?" he asks.

The group had quickly made their way outside of Delilah's safe zone and began trekking through the forest on the way to the quest location. Rays of sunlight sporadically broke through the blanket of leaves hanging overhead, giving the party enough natural light to make their way without any trouble. The blacksmith scanned the area as they went, following suit with the other three to grab any materials laying around that she could find.

Teion kept quiet until the other players spoke up, offering idle conversation to keep them occupied while they traveled. It was an odd feeling, partying with the same group of players for another quest. While she rarely spent much time outside of her shop hunting or taking on quests, the few tasks she did perform were most often done solo. Her contract with the Celestial Ascendants allowed her to farm for materials even less lately. Teion's eyes flickered across Shield and Beat's health bars in her party interface, recognizing the CA emblem beside each of them. Soredell's question towards the pair caused Teion to tilt her head slightly in curiosity. She chose to remain silent, taking interest in their conversation before offering some standard reply as to what she'd been up to.

It was odd that they had encountered to little resistance so far. The quest briefing had made it sound as if the minotaur would be near the edge of the forest, but they had already walked a considerable distance in. As soon as Soredell began pressing into the matter of how he and Beat had been, likely since their marriage of convenience, Shielf cleared his throat loudly, coughing to interrupt the other player as his typically impassive countenance faltered.

"Oh look!" he said loudly, pointing ahead of them in the distance. "I think I see the minotaur!"

Although he had intended it as a distraction, as soon as he raised his voice, a roar went up through the trees, though a good ninety degrees to the right of where he had been pointing. He slowly shifted his finger to point closer to the source of the sound, hoping that the others would be too distracted by the sound to notice.

A set of heavy footfalls came crashing through the undergrowth. As the great, muscular beast burst from the cover of the trees, Shield met it with his axe, actually managing to dent its health as it failed to do the same to his own, despite the fact that it had torn through his temple with its horns.

"...well this is a little bit of a letdown."

Beat folded his arms as he watched the minotaur charge Shield to absolutely no effect. This happened with stronger monsters too, but their attacks could still be felt. To Beat, and likely Shield as well, the minotaur's attacks barely registered. As the minotaur struggled with his position and how unmovable its target was, Beat casually moved behind the mythical beast, walking right next to it.

"BOOOOOORED!" Beat yelled, looking up at the creature, who returned his gaze, befuddled and furious at the same time, "I'm bored now...you bore me."

His left leg shimmered as he hammered kicks into the beast's body at blinding speed, bringing the not-so-mighty creature to its knees. Beat stood next to it and lifted his arm, preparing to deal the final blow.

"Boo! I want a real minotaur! This one sucks!" He playfully complained, looking at Shield with feigned anger as he chopped the Minotaur's head off with the final blow of his sword art. Blowing his cheeks as the creature burst into a shower of red pixels, he shook his head,"Seriously though, let's find something that can actually fight back a little bit, damn."

The fight had ended so abruptly after it began that it almost seemed as if they echoes of the minotaur lingered in the air. If it did, however, it was not in sound, or at least not for long, but something of the creature's rage still hung in the air in a nearly tangible sense. As Shield felt the hum in the air, he also heard rustling from deeper in the forest, and shadows began moving among the trees.

"What on earth-"

Before he could articulate his question, four statues emerged from the foliage, their stone bodies taut and fists raised. Instinctively, Shield jumped back, using the precious moments to fill his lungs.

"It's rude to sneak up on people!" he bellowed, his own voice echoing through the trees as well, though it did not linger as had the minotaur's. "Looks like you'll need to be taught some manners!"

The statues, rising to his bait, swung their club-like fists, each landing in turn with a heavy thud on Shield's chest, leaving no residual damage, except on the health bars of their owners.

Soredell didn't even have a chance to make a move before the first Minotaur was slain in a matter of seconds. One would think that on a quest it would be more of a fight than what Soredell had experienced. Then again, it was an easier quest compared to others. Right as the first Minotaur was slain, Soredell blinked in a moment of confusion at what just happened, before putting his sword back in its scabbard. "That was... actually quite underwhelming and honestly, a little disappointing." Soredell says, turning to the party. "Alright, lets press on-" he says before being cut off by more roars. Turning back he sees several large statues approaching the group. Unlike the weaker mobs from the quest, these things were serious business, and he didn't think that these things were part of the quest either. Soredell manages to dodge out of the way from their attacks, although he realized that Shield's voice attracted their attention. As he dives, he attempts to slash at even one of the Minotaur, but misses. It wouldn't matter as Soredell begins to retreat to the others. "Where did they come from!?" he cries out.

Teion had pulled the massive axe from the sheath at her back, but a quick glance at the minotaur's stats caused her to scoff. She wasn't surprised when the martial artist took down the creature with a single sword art. After a few moments passed, the blacksmith shifted her weight impatiently, waiting for the group to continue moving to locate and collect the quest item. Before they would, however, the sound of stone hooves pounding against the forest floor snapped them all to attention. Their tank reacted quickly to draw the new monsters' attention onto him, and Teion felt a small smirk grow upon her features. 'Finally, a challenge.' She thought, her grip tightening around the ivory handle of her weapon.

With the creatures grouped together, Teion circled around into melee range behind them. The curved blade of her axe glowed a bright blue as her strongest sword art activated and the system overtook her movements to unleash a series of wide slashes. As the effigies' health bars drained slightly in unison, Teion disengaged and held her weapon at the ready in front of her.

Beat watched as the statues approached, checking their stats before he let himself get too interested. He grinned as he saw the satisfactory statistics on each of the statues and grinned as he charged forward, his blood finally pumping as he relished in the flow of a good fight.

"Now see? That's what I'm talking about!" He said as his left left shimmered with sword art energy. He jumped up into the group of statues and spun quickly, his heel crashing into each of their enemies, knocking them backwards and leaving a red, heel shaped mark on each of them.

"Still nothing to write home about, but at least they can take a hit." Beat said, shrugging as he took his place behind the tank once again. With the hate system, strategic positioning was much less of a necessity than in other MMOs, but it was always a good habit to be in.

"You know what? That's a great question, @Soredell," Shield called out over the chaos of battle. "They seem to be themed to the quest, but they're not mentioned in the objectives!"

He a jab with his axe towards the nearest of the statues, trying to keep them corralled for easy AoE by the strikers. Each of the bearded faces was trained on Shield with their unfeeling, unblinking eyes. It would have been unnerving had he and Beat not encountered so many statues of mythical figures on their journey so far.

"Feel a little familiar, Beat?" he asked the younger man behind him. "I feel like we've been here before. Have we been here before?"

Four stone fists drew back simultaneously, and Shield opened his arms wide to welcome them. Their impacts shook the ground even through the chest, body and feet of their target, but neither he nor his health gauge moved.

Soredell wasn't prepared for this. He didn't expect much higher leveled mobs to appear on a low level quest. If this continued to happen, there would be more low level player deaths. They needed to take these statues down, and then they can worry about anyone who takes this quest later. Going up to one of the statues, who attempts to slash at the legs, but to his surprise, it was agile enough to move out of the way of his attack. Worriedly, he falls back, being the second time he has failed to do damage to these things. "This isn't part of the quest!" He calls out to everyone. Looking around, they're all very capable of dealing with these things. Shield being able to tank their attacks without losing any health. "Don't get too cocky! You might be able to tank these things but just be careful Shield!" he calls out to the tank. He didn't doubt his ability and role as a tank, but that didn't mean he couldn't show some concern to them.

Teion rolled her shoulders, gripping her axe firmly as the long blade began to glow an identical sky blue. The woman frowned, gauging the minotaurs' health bars between the strikes they'd taken. The group had done a fair job of evenly splitting the damage amongst them and it wasn't long before they all dropped into the yellow zone. Teion's blade swung to the side and hovered just above the dirt floor as its light grew brighter. The woman rushed forward once more, taking another set of wide swings across the monsters' backs as their attention was still set on Shield. She left the statues with more red gashes as their health bars continued to drain, each of them now glowing red.

Taking a few steps back and lowering her weapon in front of her, Teion frowned in dissatisfaction. Another hit like that would surely drop them all, but her energy had already been reduced under half, and she had to take a moment before the system would allow her body to take another swing of any kind. She forced herself to relax instead. She probably wasn't going to get another strike at them before the pack would turn into pixels anyway.

“Familiar Indeed. Kayaba clearly enjoys his mythology. I can’t say I don’t approve.” Beat said with a smile on his face. The falcon flying around them, Horus, was a shining example of how the game designer’s taste for mythological beasts and legends made its way into a multitude of quests and locations.

“I think it’s about time to end this.” He said as he leaped in between their opponents before spinning quickly, whipping up a whirlwind that disintegrated the statues as it did the same to the remainder of their health bars.

Beat dusted his hands off together as Horus swooped down and landed on Beat’s right shoulder, which was his usual spot. It had taken some time to adapt to the weight of the large avian, but now, Beat barely felt the additional weight. He looked to Teion with a grateful smile.

“It’s nice to have another source of good damage. It takes a lot of energy and you really feel it when it’s only you.” He said, also looking to Soredell, not wanting to make him feel left out.

Shield nodded in agreement with Beat's sentiment, but he did not pause long for congratulations, turning rather towards the forest and setting off once again. Beat had said something that had stood out to him, and he did not yet know what to make of it.

You can't say you disapprove? I know you were discussing a matter of taste, but.. I'd hesitate to mention approving of any of Kayaba's decisions.

He did his best to shrug it off, but something of it hung in the back of his mind. Pressing on through the thick woodlands, they came to a break in the trees, the center of which was set with a stone dome, each of the four cardinal sides sporting a wide, open doorway surrounded by carvings of bulls and minotaurs. Inside, a wide, sweeping staircase spiraled down into the stone depths of the labyrinth.

Taking a leaf out of the pages of mythology, Shield produced a vanity item from his inventory, a large ball of yarn, which he anchored to the stone banister before giving a nod to his companions and making his way down into the dark.

Every passage was like the last. Nondescript stone walls with identical corners and identical flat, unpolished marble floors. However, with the yarn in hand, they could easily backtrack from dead ends, make note of the passages they had exhausted and push onward. Just as the last of the yarn was beginning to dwindle, they stumbled upon the first non-identical bit of construction they had seen since the stairway down. A room, plain in design, but wider than any of the halls, and at the center, a small chain on a pedestal in the room's center.

Shield approached, and after a moment of hovering his hand over the heavy, densely woven silver chain, he snatched up the artifact. As he did so, the end of the chain lit up with a searing blue light which slowly faded to nothing, although where there had once been bare chain, there now hung a silver shield, identical to the one that he had stored in his inventory.

"Fascinating," he said, examining the bit of jewelry. "Does the game search for key words in a player's information and give them items based off of their name, or perhaps based off of a player's most commonly used items..."

Teion placed her axe back behind her, sheathing the weapon and tilting her neck to either side to give it a stretch. Taking down even a whole pack of monsters at that level was child's play with their party, and it made her wonder if quests were always this easy with a group. The blacksmith mentally shrugged it off, following their tank as Shield took the lead again to begin the search for the quest objective.

As the party descended into the ruins that made up the labyrinth, Teion appeared largely disinterested. While they continued to explore and tried to locate the Hoya item, the violet-haired woman scanned their surroundings and made a mental note of their movements so far. With little to no visual markers to go off of as the floor, walls, and pillars populating the winding labyrinth were identical to each other, her mental mapping didn't last long before the blacksmith summoned a blank parchment from her inventory and began to scribble down some notes.

Shield seemed to have spotted a room of interest, but at the same time Teion found herself slowly wandering just a few paces further. The woman squinted slightly as something about the stone walls just seemed slightly off. Activating her Search skill, Teion ran her hand lightly along the rough surface before the game notified her of something out of the ordinary. Applying a bit of pressure to the stone block her hand rested on, she was quickly rewarded with a soft clicking sound and a section of the stone wall swung inward to reveal another path. "Found something." Teion turned her head towards the group as she called out her discovery.

Without waiting for the others to follow after her, the blacksmith's curiosity had her stepping forward onto the newly-revealed path. She walked at a cautious pace, running her hand along the side of the stone wall for a few paces before frowning slightly. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary to make this path any more special than the one she was just in--was it a false alarm? The woman didn't have to walk for long before she reached a dead end, bringing a hand up to slide across the identical stones in front of her. As she considered turning back with a small dissatisfied sigh, a flash of light appeared at her feet. "Huh?" Teion took an alarmed step backwards before the light flared up again and began to engulf her. A small, startled scream escaped her before the axe-wielder disappeared entirely.

"Ugh... what was that?" Teion rubbed the side of her head before she gave a look around. She appeared to be in the same labyrinth, finding herself at another dead end. Something felt off, and as Teion gave her surroundings a thorough search she soon found herself looking up to the sky. "Was that a teleporter?" She found herself mumbling as her hand went through the motions to open up her menus. Trying to pull up a map of the area was useless, but her eyes quickly settled on a bit of text in the corner of her display--Floor 11.
