[PP-F20] Ventures <<Scouting the 20th Floor Labyrinth>>

Recommended Posts

Sey was ready for today, making sure that he had all his items needed and prepared. They took a few days to prepare all of the things that were needed, mainly the alcoholic items and the food. It was a lot of work on the snow-haired players part, but it will all be worth it when they were given the chance to scout the floor and be given a chance to locate the boss monster. The reason for this difficulty in scouting was probably due to the fact that the next monster was going to be a tier higher than all of the players in this game. What did this mean? it just meant that they were going to have to try a bit harder and be a lot more prepared than they were because players were going to die that day. But today, they were searching. Who were they? Sey was naturally one of them. The other two were two recent recruits, but they were near his level, showing that they level up as fast as he did, so they were perfect for this task. @Beat and @Shield should be arriving at the entrance of the labyrinth at any moment.

It felt odd for him to be sending the message, but there he stood on the twentieth floor just outside of the teleportation plaza, his menu open and a missive open inviting Beat to join him on the front lines. He knew that it would be a little while before Beat could join them, but he and Sey had arranged a time and place to meet, and he knew that his travel companion wouldn't be far behind.

He sent the message and set out from the town, following the blinking cursor that marked the entrance to the labyrinth. Despite the supposed challenge of being on such a high floor, the whole aesthetic of the place was nothing but inviting, and either by luck or by clever navigating on the part of the scout who had relayed the directions, he arrived at the rendezvous unhindered. Waving to @Sey, he came to a rest just shy of the entrance to the great labyrinth.

"It feels odd that this is the highest level we've found," he said with a glance around the sunny landscape. "I've been on a number of lower floors that have seemed a good deal more menacing."

Beat smiled at the message as he read it. It was finally time to test themselves against the front lines. They had been working hard, Shield somewhat more than Beat, and were going to finally going to see if they measured up.

"Horus! Let's go see what we can really do!" He said excitedly as he removed his cooking gear and equipped his standard loadout.

He made record time to the settlement and his heart ran faster as he shouted the name of the furthest unlocked floor. The gloomy skies of the eleventh floor turned into a rather inviting blue sky. He wasted no time catching up to his traveling companion with Horus flying above until he had finally reached the rendezvous point. He smiled to each of them, as he bent down to retrieve a small prism that he had narrowly missed with his feet.

"Shield, I think we built our home on the wrong floor. Eleven is really depressing." He said as he straightened back up before looking to @Sey, "Yo, how goes it?"

The first to arrive out of the two of them would be Shield, telling him about how depressingly easy this looked compared to the other floors below. The sentinel nodded his head with approval. "That's a great thing to hear, with that mentality, we will we able to get this cleared and get our fair share of the dungeon map. Who knows, we might be able to find it." He explained before the second of the two arrives not too long after the first, both of them were so timely, that works perfectly. "Yo Beat. Not much, you made it just on time." The attention would then be turned to the both of them while handing them their share of damage items and infliction meals as well. "We are going to be needing these. You should feel tipsy, unless you have a weak stomach... In which case, have fun being drunk. As for you Shield, if you take far too much damage, let me know. I have First Aid maxed out."

Shield nodded, accepting the alcohol and the potion. For now, he let both sit in his inventory and instead took out one of the Drunken Masters that he still had left, consuming that before motioning for the others to follow. The effect was immediate, but it was not overpowering, nothing more than a tingling in his limbs.

Good. I can manage this.

On his shoulder, he noticed the faint glow cast by his earring, only just visible in the bright sun. Glancing around for the reason for its signal, he spotted a bright purple flower just beside the entrance to the labyrinth itself. He reached down and picked it, dismissing it to his inventory.

Hopefully that's a good omen for us. For now, though, I need to swap out my detection things for my combat gear. I'll leave the scouting up to Sey.

With that, he changed out his earring and wrist band for his axe and shield before taking a slow, silent breath and walking through the entrance.

Beat happily accepted the donation of consumables, downing the potion immediately, leaving the consumption of the drink for a moment later as he opened his menu and began flipping through his shared inventory with Shield, retrieving the earring the tank had just removed.

"With two dps, I imagine my bleed won't be quite as necessary. Better to increase our odds of finding something good." He said as he removed his gloves in favor of the earring, which began to shine the instant he put it on. He quickly found the object the trinket had detected and knelt down to pick up a small sphere of jade, obviously fallen from someone's pack.

"Interesting..." He said before stashing the material into his pack and catching up with the group.

He had only seen Sey in combat a few times and even then, it had been during an event or some other boss fight where he had more things to worry than watching someone else fight.

With that, he would take a drink from the spiked soda that he had the nghtmre beginning already, but his body had grown so used to it, it grew much stronger against the buzz. And fortunately, he was actually able to have some form of control this time over his body as well. His talking would be a little bit off, but that was not anything to be concerned about considering talking was not needed too much in combat. "I think... We're ready." He would then chug down the potion as well, and his muscles felt a lot tighter than they once were. With a smile on his face, he would then look to the side towards the labyrinth before proceeding to walk inside with his spear at hand. His evasion was heavily lowered without a doubt, but with Shield on their side, he did not even have to worry about trying to dodge anything. So with that, the little adventure officially begins.

Turning and giving the others a nod, Shield set his broad hand against the heavy door of the labyrinth and pushed. Slowly, the door swung inward, the hinge grinding against itself as it turned in its socket. He grunted, throwing his weight behind it harder until finally there was enough of a gap to step through.

The halls were narrow, at least in this portion of the maze. That could be problematic, but there was nothing they could do about it for now. They'd have to deal with their restrictions as they went. Every twenty feet along the passages, a sconce burned with a flickering blue light that bathed everyone in a dancing, ghostly glow. It was haunting, and either from excitement of having realized his goal of reaching the front lines or from the unearthly ambiance, a shiver ran up his spine.

Shield took the right-most passage, hugging the wall as he went. As they walked, he marked on his navigation system which paths they had taken to prevent losing their way. As he checked off another right hand turn, he stopped. Glancing around, he saw four hooded figures on either side of them, the fabric of their garb black and seamless. He had not heard them approach at all, and even now they glided silently across the floor, clawed hands extending slowly from their billowing sleeves.

With a quick gasp of air, Shield bellowed out at them

"Woah! Alright, you sneaky little snakes!" he crowed, his words slightly less coordinated with the tingling of his tongue from the alcohol, though the force of the words still stopped them in their tracks. "I know you think you're all scary, but you haven't tangled with me before! I'll show you scary!"

Taking a moment to consider the threat, they each pulled back their hands and struck.

Consuming 1 Spiked Drink (+6 Dmg/-3 Eva)

He chugged the drink Sey had given him, immediately feeling the effects of the alcohol take their toll. He had been practicing with alcohol to get used to being intoxicated, but the detriment to his reaction time was still quite notable. As a result, his reaction to the appearance of the apparitions was delayed considerably.

“Hey now! I was not done drinking!” He said grumpily as his window of attack disappeared and he was forced to simply position himself for the next chance he could get.

He figured it was still worth having the benefit of the drink before starting to fight anyway, since having two damage dealers in the party meant not having to worry quite as much about missed opportunities. He looked to Sey, who had already finished buffing and cheered him on.

“Alright Sey, let’s see what you can do!” He said slightly louder than necessary as he watched intently.

As much as he would have liked to show off what he could like Beat wanted him to, the control over his body from the alcoholic item was extremely harmful to his body movement. While he was able to freely move, the control over his body was rather rough and unfortunately difficult as well. With that, he would try to slice through the enemies, but to little avail as he would end up missing each and every one of them. As a result, the strike was unsuccessful unfortunately. Stepping back, he would try to think of a few ways to approach the monsters, but he would then just shake his head as he was still a little bit too tipsy. So he was just standing there with his eyes locking onto the monsters, seeing how he could approach it next time, but constantly losing focus as he tried. "It seems..." Sey couldn't even finish his sentence.

Shield slapped the heel of his hand against his forehead as Beat fell just a few seconds behind 'getting with the program,' and then slapped his other hand right next to it as Sey more or less teetered on the spot, seemingly trying to remember how his feet work.

How am I the only person here who can hold my liquor? I guess I shouldn't make anything of it. They did drink stronger stuff than I did.

Turning back to the foes at hand, Shield waited, letting the phantasms close in around him once again before rolling his wrist to give his axe some momentum. Carrying that speed forward, he swung upward, cleaving the nearest hooded figure down the middle. Though relatively undamaged from the strike, the wound remained open, pouring out red pixels into the air in front of it as its health began to drain ever so slightly.

The figures each stepped back, wrong-footed by the attack that ruined their ally's perfect health. As if spurred on by the first blood of the battle, they each rushed in, their cloaks not even rustling with the motion of their attack as they swept forward in perfect unison, plunging their claws once again into Shield's throat. He stared down the nearest one, still unfazed as his health dipped slightly before returning in full force.

Beat stumbled for a moment as he continued to adjust to the strong alcohol. Though he had practiced before, he was far from able to simply drink and show little to no effect. He glared at their targets as he charged forward, his skill amplifying his speed and strength.

"Let's see how you like this!"

With his inhibited equilibrium somewhat under control, Beat ran through the mass of apparitions and spun around, his enhanced abilities causing his tornado kick to whip up a fierce, but brief twister that cut into his targets as well as their health. He stumbled again as he landed from his assault, gradually making his way back to the safety behind the party's tank.

"Whew, Still not used to this stuff! Haha!" He said cheerfully as he continued to enjoy the euphoria that came with being drunk. He had actually begun to incorporate the incapacitation into his fighting style, though it was still far from perfect.

It would take a few attacks with the tip of his spear only to rip through them all again through their vital point, the chests. As a result, they would be launched back once again from the blow that he exchanged with their masses, ending up with them at the red zone of their health. The problem was that they might be ended a bit too quickly, and he would not be given the chance to get the loot, since he was the one that was scouting and all for the loot. Maybe if Beat laid off, or if he felt lucky, would they end up with some good results. However, he was too tipsy to even care as he would continue to move around a little bit awkwardly after the strike, jumping back and letting the other two do what they did. As for him, he would just wait with his weight leaning again his weapon. They were nearly done with a fraction of the task, oh how lovely. It seems to explain why floor clearing takes a while.

Sey had brought the ghastly creatures nearly to the point of death. Immediately, he saw the same threat, namely that if Beat finished them off, which was well within his abilities, their odds of finding ideal loot would be reduced. He tucked his body low, dodging past the enemies to stand in Beat's way, casting out an arm as a sign to hold his position.

"Good work, Beat, but cool it for a sec," he warned, giving the younger player a glance over his shoulder. "Let's let our scout handle the last hit."

Turning his focus back to the apparitions, he took a moment to fills his lungs. He wasn't particularly concerned with Sey either taking the focus or dying should he take a few blows, but attacking would be foolish with the enemies being as weak as they currently were.

"Hey, you grim reaper wannabes!" he called out, ruffling the edges of the foes' hoods with the force of his lungs. "Eyes up front! You don't need to be worried about the spearman over there."

Using the back of his axe's head, he heavily rapped his shield, sending echoing clangs to ring down the narrow, dark halls of the labyrinth.

"Right, better chances for nicer loot…" Beat said as he moved out of combat range and looked on; disappointed that he would not get to finish the fight like he had planned.

It made sense to maximize their gains and that was indeed to role of the scout. Still, wasting time when doing such important work didn’t make a lot of sense either. Beat’s brow furrowed as he opened his menu and began flipping through it, looking for some food items that would help with his loot find.

“Found it!” He exclaimed as he quickly realized that he would have to wait until combat was over to pull the item from his regular inventory. He scoffed quietly as he waited to see Sey’s next move, hoping he would find something good once he ended the fight. He was interested to see what sort of loot dropped from the highest floor, though he wasn’t expecting too much since the third tier of equipment had yet to be unlocked.

Sey tried his best to get a good strike on the monsters, but to no avail as he would keep on missing and missing each strike. While he would normally easily hit them with his usual accuracy weaponry, he was unable to get it this time simply because he chose the lessened accuracy. Well, he would try to aim for loot next time though, hoping to get lucky with it. The tipsy fighting kept on slashing through, hopelessly gaining nothing in the process and losing his energy as well. At this rate, they were going to lose a lot of time from the monsters, and that was nothing that he was interested in. After all, they were after the treasure maps, and that should probably be the first things on their minds. With this, he gave up and let out a tired sigh from it, it was unfortunate how they had to get nothing from it so far.

The fight was coming down to the wire, and although they were trying to hand Sey the final hit, the alcohol seemed to be getting the better of the spearman. The apparitions approached, one of which whose health was so low that Shield's defenses could have easily finished it off. His fingers flew through his menus, unequipping his Razor Ire just in time.

Four spear like hands lanced into his chest just as the chain mail vanished from his body. His hit points dipped slightly further than it had from previous attacks, but by the time their hands had withdrawn from his torso, his health had bounced right back.

"That was close," he sighed. "Who would have thought that I'd see a day where I was trying desperately to keep enemy monsters alive?"

He brandished his axe, his eyes flickering back and forth from one hooded figure to the next.

We just have to hope for the best. Then again, now with Beat eating his luck food, we might be in better shape...

Beat's brow furrowed as Sey's attack missed again. He assumed Sey was merely getting unlucky, but the way he was missing reminded Beat of the time before he had items that increased his accuracy. Monsters in Sword Art Online were difficult to attack without equipment for assistance. Some we incredibly quick and agile, the AI smart and reactive while other monsters were simply resistance to attacks, making up for their lack of evasion by being difficult to attack properly.

"Okay, I'm ending this." He said as he leaped high into the air.

He used his hangtime to flip and sending a shark wave of energy soaring from his leg, towards the apparitions. Too busy to dodge as they dealt with Shield, the apparitions took the full impact of the crescent moon attack as it exploded upon contact. The smoke cleared quickly and left a fissure in the ground where the creatures had stood.

"There. Before we move on, let me use some of my food so my loot find is closer to yours. That way it doesn't matter too much who kills them. We can save some time that way if one of us misses again." He said to @Sey after landing.

In spite of all best efforts, it was probably best for Beat to have done what he had. There probably was not that much of a difference between the amount of loot they were able to obtain anyways, and even if there was, the goal was to help find the floor boss. So he would not say anything, partially because a tipsy Sey was usually quiet. Looking at what they obtained, he would gather that the most useful things to come out of it were probably just the materials. Anything else seemed unfortunately like an unfortunate result, the col being a slight exception. With that, he would look ahead before pointing forward with the tip of his right pointer finger extended. “We must… Keep… Going.” The snow-haired player would explain through words that were cutting into each other with small pauses, mainly due to the alcohol. With that, he would then proceed to walk forward further into the labyrinth.

Placing his hand on the tipsy player's shoulder in front of him, Shield gently himself himself to the front of the pack. The last thing he needed in case of an ambush was to have the less hardy players in the line of fire. As they turned the corner, they found themselves in a small room with four simple wooden chests, each one in a different corner of the room.

"Is this a puzzle or is this an actual treasure room?" he asked aloud, pacing from one chest to the next before turning back to the others. "I think we should-"

He stopped, pushing his way past the other players and coming face to face with a new stretch of wall. This would not have normally been startling except that this wall was precisely where they had once entered the room.

"How did this close without us hearing it?" he asked before swiveling back around to the chests. "There are two possibilities of what this room is. Either opening a chest will reveal an exit, or..."

Without warning, he pulled back one foot and kicked the nearest chest as hard as he could. The box let out a squawk, and its lid flapped open into a wide mouth full of razor sharp teeth. Red cursors appeared over each of the boxes.

"Ambush! Keep your distance!" he called out, filling his lungs with air in a hurry to prepare for a howl. "You may think you're clever, but if you really were, you wouldn't have tangled with us!"

His voice echoed through the tiny room, and as the chests came to life, they became rubbery and flexed their rectangular structure as each hopped towards Shield. One at a time, they flapped their lids over and bit at him, only to fall back, hissing at the injury his thorns had caused.
